A Night in Raven's Gate
While the exhausted Grovewardens sleep, the others drop their gear and disappear into the town. Eager to get their hands on some real, and hopefully numerous, currency they escort Draxim to a goldsmith and jeweler friendly to the Ghurugil named Rhurvalos.

The shrewd and crafty dwarf dithers over the low quality of the armbands, but Draxim drops a few names ("I'm sure my friend Savud wouldn't be satisfied with such a price...") and nets 620 Lunars for the ring, two armbands and three gold ingots.

[That's about 103 Lunars each. Please make a note of it.]

Rhurvalos' shop is in the middle of a fairly affluent market so it is not difficult to find tailors, cobblers, and a variety of vendors dealing in hot, juicy meat products.

[Go ahead and purchase new clothes or just about anything else you'll need. Let me know if you're looking for anything unusual.]

Finally returning to the Lodge, Madragar finds Vala and gets an affectionate if embarassing welcome. Some time later the Grovewardens are awoken and, just before nightfall, the group hits the streets for a night on the town. Ulwe's recommendation (renamed the "The Raven's Rest" since the last time he visited) is not far from the Lodge.

Walking through the twisting, crowded avenues of Raven's Gate as the dark night approaches it is impossible not to notice the rising tension and energy in the streets. There is a festive spirit in the air as many soldiers and fortune-seekers, returning from whatever has been going on down in Pulyoke, are determined to lighten the burden of their new found wealth, and to celebrate the fact that they are still alive.

Buckler
Sangraal purcheses the standard fair, decent well made clothes, replace a pouch here, grab a new bedroll, stuff like that. As far as weapons and armor, Sangraal is looking for a buckler and inquires to Ruglan about where he bought his armor. The recent combats have made him recognize the need for better protection.

[Sangraal can find a buckler easily enough, but as the friend of a friend he'll have to pay full price. -GM]

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
After an emotional reunion with Vala, Madragar speaks to the Ghurugil about a safe place to leave his money. He doesn't want to walk about Raven's Gate with all of it.

Then, if he is able to leave most of his money there, he will.

Following that, Madragar and Vala disappear into the city, but show up at the Raven's Rest an hour or so later, dressed in new clothes and smiling, arm in arm.

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
[Ulwe will be wearing his armor and carrying his spear]

Ulwe enters first, he raps his spear butt upon the floor and bows low. He smiles and in a loud voice speaks to Dunkred:

"Greetings Master Dunkred! Blessings upon you and your Inn. I bring with me several new friends who are eager for your hearty fare and bonny spirits. Could you prepare something special for us, we are celebrating tonight, for we yet live! They are a thirsty bunch so please bring a cask of your special brew."

Ulwe partakes of the dinner but does not drink alcohol. He drinks water only and eats modestly. He will act as a go-between for the party and Master Dunkred

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe gets out "Greetings Master Dunkred! Blessings upon you and your Inn. I bring with me-" before a gnarled old man sitting near the door barks "Dunkred ain't here ya fancy pigeon! He broke his foot on a barrel."

The Raven's Rest is a two story establishment with a single wide staircase ascending to the balcony that runs around the entire length of the building. The ground floor is crammed full of tables, chairs, and the riotous crowd of soldiers and mercenaries that occupy most of them. Nimble serving wenches navigate the crowd, dodging inappropriate hands and the large fireplace in the dead center of the room, its chimney reaching straight up and out the roof. There are lantern all around the balcony, and some hanging from the ceiling on chains, but the place is generally dark, smokey and noisy, though probably quite tame and spacious by the standards of this town.

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
The smile drops from Ulwe's face. He looks hard at the old-timer and says to him in a loud voice:

"All right then. A table, ale, and whatever the kitchen has ready! This mob is hungry and thirsty. We have money, so be quick about it unless you broke your foot as well."

He eyes up the old man to see if this is going to turn into a pissing contest or if he will accommodate the party.

After the party is seen to Ulwe approaches the codger and asks about Dunkred's wherabouts.

"I'll see to his foot, Dunkred is a good man."

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
The old man looks up from where he sits, hunched over a half full mug of something, at the tall, armored priest.

"A table, eh? Ain't never seen one before? The place is full of 'em. Get one yerself! And Dunkred ain't here, gone up the road there."

Ulwe's loud pronoucements and the group's lingering presence near the door is starting to attract attention.

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
"My aplogies gentlemen, It seems The Raven's Rest has gone downhill since Dunkred's unfortunate injury. Since we are already here, let's do as this unpleasant fellow says and get our own table."

Ulwe scans the room for a place where at least the majority of the group can sit. Since he feels responsible for dragging his new companions to what he remembered as a nice place, Ulwe will do his best to play host for the group:
Getting the attention of barmaids seesing to his companions needs and the like.

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
"Thank you Ulwe, a solid roof and a warm meal will do us some good." Ignoring the less then cordual greeting from the barkeep Sangraal makes his way to a table.
Attempting to catch the attention of barmiad Sangraal will ask what is being served tonight and if he can get a mug of mead to start with.

[Diplomacy: +3 to alleviate the mood and get some good service. If this does'nt work we can always find another bar.]

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Atan, who has been very quiet and hanging in the back of the party of late, seats himself next to Ulwe. Extending his hand in greeting as if meeting the elf for the first time, "L'rh-nen Finith Ring uin Nral Imaldaen, but everyone calls me Atan. We have not really talked since we meet earlier this morning and I am interested to learn more of the Grovewardens and especailly of your, if I heard you correctly, sea travels?"

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
[The old man isn't the barkeep, he's just an old man. There is no bar.]

The group shuffles through the smokey crowd to a pair of square tables in one corner, under the creaking boards of the balcony above. A heavy-set woman in a stained apron swoops down on them and offers a wide variety of vittels: ale, wine and stew are the only three items on the menu.

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe props his spear against the back wall and sits on a rough wooden chair. Leaning over to Atan he speaks loudly to compete with all the excess noise in the Raven's Rest.

"Aye, I served aboard the Dawn's Glory. We mostly patrolled the waters around Shei Hythriad though on occassion we sailed the Moagaran Coasts as well. It was when we pulled into Dobrug that I left my captain and crew to study at the Locamyrida. My sister Joalla found me there and easily recruited me to join Lyssa's band. Joalla is true follower of that remarkable woman, but I cannot follow a mortal. The Gods have my allegiance."

Ulwe breaks off his story to Atan to flag down the large woman and order some watered wine and a bowl of stew.

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Atan piggybacks on Ulwe's order with his own. "An ale and some stew would be fine."

Turning back, "Where is this land Shei Hythriad? I have never heard of such place nor met seafaring elves."

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe's weatherworn face lightens in a smile as he chuckles

"Oh Atan you have met at least one other from Shei Hythriad. Lyssa comes from my land and she is much famed there. That is why others like my sister emabrked across the waters to join her."

[Edit: Only Edrigan ever referred to Lyssa as 'of the Skytower.' -GM]

Ulwe washes his hands and forehead with some water from his goatskin. He dries his hands with an embroidered blue cloth which he then puts away in a pouch at his belt. His ablution complete, Ulwe continues:

"But to answer your question, Shei Hythriad is only a few weeks sail to the North and East, that is if Orlanth is willing."

"All the elves of Moagara came from far away to the East, so at one time even your folk were seafarers. Orlanth carried us to these lands. The Sea is in all of our veins."

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
"Hmm, I would like to see Shei Hythriad one day when our cares are less." Atan takes a drink from his ale, the pinch of his face betraying the quality of ale. He stares at his mug for a momment as if it bit him. With a look out of the corner of his eyes at Ulwe, "When was the last time you were here?"

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe raises his eyebrow at Atan's remark:
"I was a while I'll admit. I will have to find Dunkred to fix his foot. This was a merrier palce once."
He changes the subject quickly:

"Who knows what fate has in store for us? Mayhaps one day you will travel to Shei Hythriad. We are all but flotsam carried where Wind, Tide, and Wave conspire to bring us."

"But I digress... for the moment I am more interested in the company I presently find myself. I heard your tale Under the Mountain, but how is it such a disparate group travels together? How is it you know one another?"

Kezib, once at the table, will try to take the seat in the corner, so his back is up against the wall. Hearing the two elves order Kezib will also add another watered down wine and stew.

Upon hearing Ulwe's question, Kezib smiles. "The Yelm accolyte and I have known eachother for years and years. We learned at the same sanctuary. And we have since traveled together. Battling the broo, brings us together. The departing of short known friends brings us closer" Kezib finishes lowering his head.

Realizing that he has just brought the mood down, Kezib smiles again. "Let us not speak of such morbid thoughts at this time." Looking around the group, Kezib asks "So, what now?"

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
"I'm suprised Lyssa did not fill you in Ulwe. Seemed she knew all the events that have befallen us of late. The quick of it; I would have to say Irespike. The truth of it", Atan says a little quieter, "that is a story away from prying ears. I'll certainly tell you later tonight over a descent ale at the lodge."

"Until then, Lyssa has thown you in with a motley crew." Atan pauses, then with a puzzled expression, "Why did she send you with us anyways?

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
A long table nearby, lit by a single swaying lantern, is surrounded by a band of hard-bitten soldier types that have been yelling, carousing and drinking heavily since the group came in. They don't pay their neighbors the least bit of attention.

From somewhere near the door another scruffy warrior takes a few quick steps towards the table [not your table, the other one] and leaps onto it. The man dodges the hanging lantern as it sways wildly, and the other soldiers howl in laughter and mock protest.

"Come brothers! The whites of your eyes still show and not one of you is yet on his back. You must not be trying."

"Sit down ya bloated ass," one man laughs. "You'll knock the whole table over and we'll be off to find another tavern... again."

The newcomer gives an exaggerated sigh and sits down in the center of the table. "You're right Hval, as always," he says before snatching up someone else's mug and stealing a deep draught.

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe nods in agreement with Atan

"Later then I am eager to hear all of it. Lyssa had no time to tell me tales, she was busy with you scallawags. I returned to the Grove only this morning, and the reasons why you have been told.
Why I am here is because I choose to be. Though Lysssa asked that someone show you the way from the Grove through the Braithvale. And Naerdru here..."

Ulwe pokes the nervous elf next to him who is preoccupied with the rowdy bunch nearby. "... Well he needs no looking after, but appreciates company and it was he who bore your heavy burden most of the way to the Gate if you remember. SOmeone needs to return to the Grove with him."

Ulwe then changes the subject and speaks with Sangraal:

"I wonder what news from Pulyoke. Mayaps we have a word with these fellow nearby. Sangraal when you have finished eating, why don't you ask?"

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
At this point, Madragar and Vala enter the Raven's Rest, arm in arm and deep in conversation. Seeing the group, they make their way past the other patrons and take their seats at the table.

Kyethe flaps up into the rafters to avoid cats and too many people.

"By the gods, I thought I'd never be clean again," says a thoroughly scrubbed and shaved Madragar. "I ought to have simply burned those clothes. I should have talked Edrigan into inventing a cleaning cantrip, but then, I'd have never met Vala." He smiles and pats her arm.

"So," he continues, "It's good to have cobbles under my feet and a roof over my head again. What are we drinking?"
