A blind existence. (open)
Zach made his way into the forest, always feeling at ease with the wilderness surrounding him, rather than steel and concrete. He'd just moved into this area, having been sent away to attend school, his adoptive parents wanting to be shed of him. He walked slowly and carefully through the trees, his head lowered, focusing on hearing and his touch to help guide his way through without tripping over the odd root or rock. Zach's staff tapped in time with every two of his steps, helping him to create an extremely rough picture of what was immediately around him. After several minutes of walking, Zach came upon a small clearing, just the place he'd been hoping to find. He walked about ten yards from the edge of the forest and let out a soft sigh of relief, it felt great to finally be able to manage his way without tripping up. Zach stuck his staff into the ground, kicked off his skate shoes, slid the open shirt from his shoulders, then hooked his fingers under the hem of his tank top, and slid it off. After making a neat little pile out of his disgarded garments, he took his staff in his hands again and slowly started to spin it.

Zach took a few moments while he was spinning the staff to clear his mind and begin concentrating on the training routine he put himself through atleast twice a week. He started off slow at first, his feet stepping slowly as he moved his staff easily in his hands. As his body continued to move slowly about the training dance he'd been taught, his staff was sped along by his hands, spinning faster and faster, switching from hand to hand. After getting the staff to the speed he felt needed, Zach attempted to make his body catch up, his feet stepping quickly, spinning his body about as his staff twirled deftly around him, occasionally spinning around behind him as he switched hands, or flipping under a bent knee or spinning across his shoulders as he bent, letting the staff slide across to be caught by his opposite hand. After about fifteen minutes, Zach brought his staff to a slow stop, his body following suite, until his was standing still, leaning against his planted staff, breathing quickly from the exertion.

Standing there, leaning on his staff, Zach smiled to himself, finally having the freedom he'd wanted for awhile now. "Thanks for sending me away Jack... we both got what we wanted." His thoughts were cut short by a wolf's howl, one not so far away by his estimation. At that moment, Zach realized how truly vulnerable he was, completely blind and in a new location. He slowly turned to his right, towards the sound of the howl, and lowered himself into a kneeling position, laying his staff just infront of him. Now that he wasn't distracted with thoughts of the past, he could hear the soft tread of the wolf as it neared him, most likely in a hunting crouch. Zach forced his fear away, falling back on what the cherokee chieftain had taught him about nature, most importantly, it's predators. He lifted his left hand to brush the bangs from his face, revealing his sightless eyes and softly spoke in cherokee dialect. "Di gi ne li, na s gi a gi s ti." After speaking so, he sat down and crossed his legs, holding his left hand out to the side. He couldn't help but smile as he felt the coarse fur of the wolf beneath his palm. "that's right my friend... easy does it." He started to run his hand slowly through the animal's fur, thanking the spirits for his success in calming the wolf. His attention, and that of the wolf, quickly snapped towards the sound of footsteps at the edge of the forest he'd come out of. The wolf quietly growled as Zach brushed his hair back into his eyes, then waited patiently to figure out if it was a threat or something else.

Being a new student, he was taken in by the lush forest outside of campus and well almost oblivious to the dangers said to lurk inside it. The sound of his footsteps was occupied by an odd whistling enjoying the deceptive tranquility of the place. Hands idly placed in his pockets observing his surroundings till he came upon a clearing. His shoe breaking a twig underneath his weight signaling his entry if the whistling wasn't enough.

The whistle faded away seeing the wolf with it's low forbidding growls a clear tell it was in a fowl mood, then there was the presence of the strange shirtless man in front of him. An interested gaze came over Lucian eyes when he noticed the man co-siding with the wolf wondering to himself. Why the wolf wasn't attacking him? Still it didn't quite still help his situation if the wolf would attack him. He wasn't one for hurting other living beings unless needed to. A nervous smile came across his lips. It wasn't one of fear just uncertainty. "Hello Mr. Wolf I don't think you would want to attack me... I taste absolutely horrible. I really don't want to hurt you and I'm far from a threat to your existence. Damn, I wish I had some kibble. Anyway even though we did start off on the wrong foot or.. I mean paw.. I’m pleased to meet you if you don't decide to gnaw on me."

Looking to the stranger next to the wolf. A polite bow was given to him in recognition of him his way of saying hello. He seemed to have over come his nervousness. "Hello. I’m Lucian Wilhead. I'm pleased to meet your acquaintance and The Wolf's to I suppose. May I enquire what's your name? This is a nice clearing I suppose you were training due to being shirtless and the staff. I'm quite intrigued to how the wolf is more in tuned to you, then me?"

Zach sat there, listening as the young man spoke first to the wolf, then to him. He slowly stood up, sliding his hand through the wolf's fur one last time before he spoke softly to it. "Ne hi a ne ga." With that said, the wolf turned and darted off into the woods, back to his home. Zach turned to face the young man, switching his staff to his left hand, he extended his right in a formal greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well Lucian. I'm Zach Ruarc." He let out a light laugh, nodding his head slightly. "oh aye... i was training with my staff. i had just finished when the wolf came along." Zach tilted his head to the side, offering Lucian a shrug. "Well, I suppose it's the way i was raised... cherokee see any animal as friend, and the way we speak to them, it calms them, that and not showing fear."

Zach bent and proceeded to redress himself, lastly sitting to put his shoes back on. When he was finished he stood up and looked in the direction of Lucian. "What brings you out here, if i might ask?" He leaned his weight on his staff, keeping his hair over his eyes, not yet sure how the population in this area will react to his lack of sight. Zach thought about trying to use his 'sight' to see what the young man looked like, but decided against it, having already spent enough of his energy at training, seeing as sleep didn't come so easily anymore, he needed to conserve what he had. He straightened up, lifting his face towards the sky to take in the warmth of the sun, speaking softly to Lucian as he did. "I... I'm new around here, and your actually the first person i've met. What about you? Have you been around here before... or new like me?"

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well Lucian. I'm Zach Ruarc." He let out a light laugh, nodding his head slightly. "Well, I suppose it's the way i was raised... cherokee see any animal as friend, and the way we speak to them, it calms them, that and not showing fear."

His ears perked at the mention of cherokee he had read briefly about their culture in many a book, but he had a understanding about it to a certain degree. Zach was one of the first people he had meant on his new student adventures most of them somewhat interesting. He leaned out his hand grabbing Zach's in a firm greeting shake. His voice held kind of a genuie friendly tone to it, "It's nice to meet you Zach. I see it as my friend just as long has it doesn't bite me in the rear-end. I do have respect for living things don't harm them unless needed to."

"What brings you out here, if i might ask?"

Lucian gave a soft smile retracting his hand to scratch the back of his head. A sharp eye caught him leaning on the staff Zach seemed tired good thing he wasn't a enemy. "I was just going out for a relaxing stroll through the woods it helps me think. I didn't quite know such a place could be deceptionally sincere, then again I was exploring. That's all it takes to bring me to the Forest Of Itami."

"I... I'm new around here, and your actually the first person i've met. What about you? Have you been around here before... or new like me?"

A fellow new student like himself in the middle of the woods practicing. Leaning his head back slightly to the look up at the sky with him curious to see what he sees up there. " I would have to say we have something in common. We're both new students at the highschool I'm a freshman myself only fourteen. The sky has really calm winds today." Taking a step backwards with a silly smirk thinking to himself about flight.

Zach leveled his gaze, a light sigh excaping his lips as he tried to picture what Lucian could possibly look like. "It's good to have such a respect for the wild... it'll help to keep you out of danger someday." He straightened up, trying to shake of his feeling of exhaustion, and turned to face the forest's edge. "So... what is there for entertainment around here? I have yet to experience the school... or much of anything else for that matter." Zach lifted his left hand to run through the bangs covering his face, cursing yet again his lack of sight. "Forest of Itami? So that's what this place is called... I'll have to remember that."

After taking a few steps towards the forest, his staff tapping beside his right foot, Zach turned partially around, half facing Lucian. "This forest is most calming... even with the dangers that are bound to be lurking inside. Just another facade of nature I suppose." He shook his head slowly, laughing softly, then turned back towards the forest's edge. "Care to walk and talk... I'd like to get to know the lay of the land, and some company would be nice." He continued towards the forest, listening for Lucian's footsteps if he decided to come along, then stopped with a chuckle as he stepped fully into the forest. "Oh... I didn't mean to be rude, I'm a sophomore, and I'm sixteen."

"So... what is there for entertainment around here? I have yet to experience the school... or much of anything else for that matter."

Lucian gave a shrug of his shoulders. He had been here long enough to find a couple spots of entertainment and his occasional flights. " Well, I guess it depends on what you like to do. I've seen a arena big building from the top so I assume it's a arena. There's a mountain close here to, but the air gets to thin to see what's at the top. I've seen a lake it looks like a nice place to take a dip in the water is almost crystal. A meadow and a waterfall," he said almost described some of things from a bird's view.

"Care to walk and talk... I'd like to get to know the lay of the land, and some company would be nice."

He was already following Zach when he had stopped almost bumping into him when he turned around with a chuckle. Taking a step back not to run straight into him. "Well, your a sophomore and sixteen. Atleast we're not to far apart in age. I haven't heard much of this forest, but there might be more then natural beasts in here. I haven't got a chance to check it out. I have no problem exploring with you Zach."
