A day of training...and something else? (V, open i think)
It all started about midday, when the sun was high in the sky, shining its bright light down on the whole campus. It was a warm, bright day, with very few clouds in the sky - and only the white, puffy kind, so as not to forecast any rain. The day seemed to bring perfect weather for training, which was very fortunate, as Knives had decided to spend his entire day doing so. At least, the entire day he was awake, for - as usual - he had slept half of the day away. And, since he was going to work on sword skills, and did not want to break things, he had chosen to do so outside rather than in the gym. Besides, it was just more pleasant outside most of the time.

As Knives stepped out into the meadow, a smile crossed his face. His deep blue eyes scanned the area, and then he gave a nod when he saw no one else around. He had the entire, wide, open area all to himself, to train in for hours if he so wished. A breeze picked up, blowing the grass and causing it to dance and bend under the pressure. Knives's own curly brown hair, long enough to fall to his eyebrows in the front and to the bottom of his neck in the back, began to blow as well. He didn't seem to notice, of course, as it didn't really bother him much.

And so, he began his training. He blocked out what was going on around him, focusing only on his training; his German Sheppard ears, sensitive to the sounds of animals, birds, even the wind that rustled things around him, ignored all these things. His hand moved to the hilt of his sword, hanging at his waist, and his fingers wrapped around the leathery hilt, grasping it tightly. Slowly, he drew the blade from its sheath, its silvery, metal blade glinting as it reflected the natural light of the sun. Knives's eyes moved to look down at the blade, to see his own reflection, distorted in the thin, warped surface of the blade.

Once the blade was drawn, Knives held it out in front of him, gripping it tightly with both hands now. His feet were wide, giving him a lower center of gravity, and his sword was held up and at an angle in front of him, straight through the center of his line of vision. And then, he slashed. He swung the sword hard through the air, slicing it cleanly, leaving a "whoosh" sound in its wake. He slashed again, this time at a different angle.

For hours, he continued similar training. As time progressed, his attacks on the air became more complicated. Rather than simply slashing from his stationary spot, he began leaping about, slashing whlie in the air, doing spins and flips as if he was dodging attacks as well. In fact, it seemed as if he were focusing on a specific point; as if there were an imaginary fiend before him, that he was jumping over and around, attacking furiously. And in his mind, there was: he pictured an opponent before him, to increase the effect of the training.

Finally, the day was coming to an end. Knives had literally been training for hours on end, and it showed. When he finally returned the blade to its sheath and stood upright again, the sun hung low in the sky, its light now shining a reddish color across the sky, giving it an otherworldly look. Knives's body, now lacking a shirt (when he had gotten too hot from all of the movement, he'd tossed it aside, revealing his well-toned body), was covered in sweat, and was gleaming in what was left of the light. His hair was much less curly now, soaked with sweat instead, and hung in his face so that he had to keep wiping it away every so often. Now, he wiped his arm across his forehead, to remove the sweat, and turned to walk towards where his shirt had come to lay.

He was ready for the training session to be over, but he didn't want to go inside yet. So, he fell back, landing on the ground in a seated position next to his shirt. He let the momentum continue to throw him back, until he lay flat on the ground, sprawled out, arms to either side and legs spread. He had to shift a few times, as the grass tickled his bare back, but once he was situated, it was rather comfortable. With a big smile on his face, he gazed up at the beautiful, reddish-purple sky, and enjoyed the sunset.

Re: A day of training . . .

The meadow is ringed in by trees, and some of them have branches large enough to climb, branches large enough to sit in and be comfortable. By the time Knives drops to the ground, ears tufted by sweat, breathless, Genevieve has been in one of the trees for quite a while. She came to the meadow, as she often does, to be alone, and because the meadow has a sweet smell, and the meadow has no roses like the garden does. But, before she even arrived, she heard the that a lone student was training. He wasn't rumoured to be psychotic or to randomly attack strangers, but still, Genevieve appears to favour the cautious approach.

She paused at a tree, as quiet as she can be, which is quiet, although she lacks any preternatural stealth. Then she climbed it, taking care to, still, be quiet; and from that vantage point she settled into the position she occupies currently, back curved against the tree's trunk, one leg dangling down with the other shoe set firmly on the branch she's resting on. She's in black, of course, black knee-length skirt, gray t-shirt with black sleeves and a cute black cat on the chest. Black lining at the collar. But other than that, she's a spill of gold.

And in her hand is a book and on her knee is a notebook (from a branch which extends from the thicker branch she's resting on the backpack which contained these goodies dangles), but she doesn't seem to be doing much with them. Quiet, calm, tranquil -- perhaps -- her head is canted to the side. She's listening to the meadow.

Sing, sing . . .

--

And she's not the only one, although Knives doesn't know it.

Re: A day of training . . .
As Knives lay there, enjoying the scene before him, something caught his attention. He hadn't noticed it so far, simply because he had been so focused on his training. But now, as he lay there, open to all of the sounds, sights, and smells of the sunset evening, he noticed one scent that was somewhat out of place. To double check, he lifted his nose into the air, closed his eyes, and sniffed, inhaling deep to get a good whiff of whatever it was. And then a smile crossed his face; it was the pleasant scent of a girl; and, by the scent, he could tell that she was just behind him, at the edge of the clearing.

His eyelids slid open again, and the world returned to focus. It was too comfortable to get up, but he wanted to see this girl; so he tilted his head back, and attempted to look behind him. He saw a figure in the trees, but it was out-of-focus and upside down, due to the angle that he was trying to view. He sighed, and gave up; instead, maybe he would simply call her over.

Still, he did not get up. He simply lifted his hands to his mouth, cupping them around it in attempt to increase the sound. After inhaling another deep breath, filling his lungs so that he could speak loud enough, he shouted across the clearing, hoping that the girl would respond. "Hey there! Wanna come over here, so you're not all alone?"

And then he just laid there, his arms spreading out to either side of him. He'd asked her to join him, now all that he could do was wait and see if she did.

Re: A day of training . . .

Knives doesn't move, except his hand, casual as casual can be. And V, esconced in the branches, turns her head (a sharp, elegant gesture) when his voice barks across the meadow. It's close to dusk and the echoes take his voice and magnify it the teensiest bit, make it hollow. It would be rude to turn Knives down, and since when is V rude?

The dark-clad girl lifts a hand in response -- she won't yell -- and a few minutes later (yes, minutes) the grass behind Knives crunches under her boots.

Re: A day of training . . .
As the sounds of grass grunching underfoot reached Knives's ears, he smiled, and waited, listening to find out if she was near enough or not. He was a little surprised that she didn't respond to him, but it didn't matter; maybe she was quiet: he had met many of those types lately. As the cruching sounds neared him, he looked up, to see a pretty girl standing over him. A big, friendly smile played across his lips, showing his teeth, of which his canines were large and sharp, reminiscent of fangs.

She simply stood there, and Knives couldn't understand why. His head tilted to the side, and his dog ears gave a little twitch, giving him a curious look. After a moment, reached out with one hand to his side, patting the grassy ground beside him. She seemed a little shy and quiet; it made him smile, those types were always the cutest. "You're welcome to sit..."

"So, what were ya doin out here? Spyin on me?" He gave her a smirk; it was obvious he was joking.

His smile includes : large, sharp canines. V, who, now that she's near Knives, adjusts the slight weight of her backpack on her shoulder, looks from the teeth to (when it twitches) the ear. Then she tosses the backpack to the ground, smooths the back of her skirt and sits near Knives, knees up. One arm naturally wraps around her knees, but she offers the other hand (so serious, so solemn) to Knives. "Maybe."

And curiosity will be the death of her one day. "Is there any reason you can think of for people to spy on you? Are you a hero or a villain?" And to continue the introduction started by offering her hand, "I'm V."

Re: A day of training . . .
His smile remained as she sat next to him. She had still yet to say anything, which kind of surprised Knives; even the shyest of girls he had met so far would have said something. He blinked as he watched her take a seat, though his big, friendly smile still remained on his face.

When he saw the hand extend towards him, he smiled and reached out his own. Usually, when one offered their hand in a handshake, Knives would grip it tightly and shake it a little; but V was a girl, and needed to be treated like one. So he took her hand gently in his own, turning it so that her palm was down and her fingers where in his hand; it was the way guys he was taught to "shake" a girl's hand politely. And, after a few moments, he let go, not wanting to scare her away.

"Maybe." He blinked. He wasn't expecting that answer; he was expecting a blush, or a nervous response. But it didn't matter, he just kept smiling to her. "Ohhh, really?" He would have kept going, but she continued talking before he could.

"Is there any reason you can think of for people to spy on you? Are you a hero or a villain?" He blinked. The question caught him a little offguard, so for a moment, all that he could do was tilt his head curiously at her, and think of a response. Finally, he said, "Well....I don't know why anyone would spy on me...I know Dango does, but she won't tell me why and I could care less." He smiled, and gave her a shrug. "Why, should I be worried? I'm just a student, I'm no hero or villain...."

Re: A day of training ...

"Dango?"

She repeats the name, obviously unfamiliar with it. Dango, is that a name of a corporation, or - and then he continues, and at least half of the question inherent in the cant of her head and the cadence of the name on her tongue is answered.

V offers an almost smile, which is as close as she usually gets, and wraps both arms around her knees, completely hiding the gray [CUTE] kitty face on her t-shirt. Her chin, she rests on her knees, although she pays attention to Knives. "What's your name? There are so many new students I haven't met."

Re: A day of training ...
Knives turned and nodded to the girl. He wasn't surprised that V hadn't met Dango; for one thing, Dango was new. Besides, she tended to keep away from most people unless they really wanted to spend time with her - it was the only reason that Knives was able to get close to her, because his personality made him want to get to know his acquaintances better. He just gave V a small shrug. "Nope, Dango's my friend. She's a student here...I'm not quite sure if she's part of a corporation or something though..." Again, he shrugged; he didn't seem to mind at all.

"What's your name? There are so many new students I haven't met." He blinked, and looked at her again. he sat like that for just a short moment, before bursting out in a laugh and scratching the back of his head sheepishly, the smile on his face becoming a sheepish one as well. "Wow, I forgot to tell you my name! I'm sorry, I'm Knives!" He laughed again. "And yea, there seems to be a sudden influx of new students..." His laughter died back down to a smile, "Like me!"

He let out a "hmmm" noise, and thought a moment. Why had this girl been so curious about whether he was being spied on? He sighed, and decided to bring that conversatoin back up. "Uhhm...but why do you think people would be spying on me?"

He shrugs, and shrugs, and smiles, and smiles; the disturbing aspect of his smile (those canines, those fangs) becomes less disturbing as time wears on. "It's okay," she says, quietly, "It's nice to meet you, Knives."

She may be shy, but the impression she tends to give off is one of efficiency, of self-assurance - someone who knows where they stand in the world and is self-contained. He almost seemed to read her mind for a moment, with his comment on corporation -- or not.

"What's Dango like?"

But he asked a question, too. And V answers it, unfolding her arms to brace her torso up, hands planted firmly in the dirt behind her-- body at an incline. A comfortable position, and her hair a shining question mark in the grass, gold glimmer glass. "I wasn't sure if you were serious before or not when you asked if I was spying on you."

That's what she says, and it's half the truth.

Because, invisible in the shadows, almost shadows themselves, there is a pack. They have no smell, they have no sound, they have almost no physical presence, for all anybody would notice. They are three, and they have eyes that glint red in the exact moment the sun touches the horizon and turns to blood.

Re: A day of training...
As Knives watched this girl, he began to understand her personality somewhat. He could tell by her expressions, by the way she carried herself - she wasn't shy, as he'd initally thought. Just quiet. And quiet didn't bother him at all; he could easily be talkative enough for the both of them, or funny enough to (hopefully) eventually bring her out of her shell. But for now, he would settle with talking, getting to know her, answering any questions she asked.

"What's Dango like?" He laughed, and turned to her. "She's my best friend so far here....but she's really distant at first, so if you wanna get to know her you gotta try hard. But she's fun, and definitely worth it." He nodded, his eyes still on V. He'd been ignoring the sunset as he watched this girl, and now the sun was almost gone, just barely peeking over the horizon, its reddish-purple glow shining on V's pretty golden hair.

"Sooo...what's your special power?" He beamed happily. "Everyone here's got one, and you seem normal so far...."

Everyone here's got one, and you seem...

At a normal high school, Knives might have asked something like what classes V has or what teachers.

...normal so far.

But Manga High School lacks certain qualities. Normalcy often seems to be one of those qualities, and Knives asked the question everybody asks everybody else eventually. What's your special power? It's a natural question to ask.

But V, who is limned in radiance, whose eyes are a warm gold, whose hair is a gold that looks warm to the touch, light-warm, reacts with a single cool [icy] glance. Knives can feel himself knifed with the glance, or, at least, knicked a very little. "Thank you. Dango sounds like a good friend." And V, as cool and aloof as it is possible to be, so detached, picks herself off the ground and dusts the grass from her skirt and plucks a stray blade from her hair.

"Later." Lifts a hand in a 'seeya' manner, shoulders the backpack -- a single fluid swing of motion. In the same motion, turns to leave.

Women, eh?

Re: A day of training...
That glare bothered him. He didn't know what he had done, but he felt that the glare was completely unneccessary. As he saw those eyes stare coldly at him, he blinked and cringed a bit, frowning. He didn't like that look, or the meaning behind it: for her to look at him like that would mean that she was angry with him. And he hated it when others were angry at him or disliked him; especially pretty girls like V.

Knives's eyes widened as she stood up. He tilted his head to the side, obviously completely confused, and followed her figure a few steps as she walked away from him. Frowning, he pushed himself to his feet as well, and began to follow her. He half-walked, half-jogged, moving at a faster pace than she did, so as to catch up to her and fall into step beside her, matching her speed at that point.

"What....what's wrong? What did I do?" He couldn't understand it. He would think that she simply had something else to do, some reason she couldn't stay here any longer - if only she hadn't given him that "death glare" when he had asked about her powers. He frowned as he looked at her, walking beside her. "Did I say something wrong?" He put up his hands, as if surrendering, "I'm really, really sorry for whatever I did..."

Re: A day of training...
Ever hear that saying -- silence is golden?

V is silent. Silent, and implaccable in the face of Knives' obvious bafflement, and silence, when watches her walk away, and silent, when she hears him stand up. By that time, she'sa good ways across the meadow, closer to the treeline. And she's silent, when his jogging steps, his whuffing breath, catch up to her, and she keeps her eyes straight ahead. What did I do? Did I say something wrong? Knives says, and apologizes, and V's eyes slide to the side, to regard him. Then they go forward again -- she stops, settles her backpack again, and glances up at the sky. They're in the treeline, now, so it's a lattice-work of branches, and the sky is as rosy as tissue dyed in blood, caught between the black shapes.

Quiet inhale. "Apology accepted."

She stopped. That was a good thing, and Knives knew it. As she quit moving forward, the dog boy continued, just long enough to step around in front of her. As he stood before her, he gave her a small smile, waiting to see what she was going to say. He thought of the two options: either she would accept his apology, or else she would tell him what it was that he had done wrong. So, he waited the short moment, until she spoke again.

"Apology accepted." He nodded and his smile grew. "Yay! Cause I really am sorry." He nodded. But he couldn't understand what the issue was...was she ashamed of her powers? If so, why? she was surely accepted here, at a school where others had powers....or maybe he was right in the first place, and she was a normal human? But so was Dango, and she wasn't the least bit ashamed of it...

He shrugged a bit, and looked down at V, still smiling. "So, uhhm...what was it you came to the meadow for, if I may ask?" After all, he was a bit curious...

"I like it out here. It's usually serene." V brushes a lock of gold (glimmer, glimmer) out of her eyes, and then looks away from the darkening red of the sky as it falls into night; looks back at Knives, and then continues walking back to the school -- she assumes that he'll tell her if he's too busy or wants to stay and they'll separate peacably. Says, as they walk, "When I saw you were busy, I decided not to disturb you; and also," and she pauses, briefly. "I didn't know what you were, at first."

"I like it out here. It's usually serene." Knives smiled a bit and nodded to V. As he was standing in front of her, his blue eyes were able to look over her shoulder, and wander across the scene before him. The sun had practically disappeared now; the sky was a deeper red than ever, and the shadows from the nearby trees were long, casting darkness over much of the area. He returned his gaze to V. "Well, that is true.

She began walking, and Knives fell into step beside her once again. It was coming on nighttime, and it was best if he headed back to the campus anyways. And what better way to travel than with a pretty girl? (Even if it was just to talk, which was all that Knives wanted to do right now, seeing as how he was interested in a couple of other girls...) They followed the pathway through the forest, back to the school, Knives enjoying the peace that V had just mention.

"When I saw you were busy, I decided not to disturb you; and also," Knives blinked, and tilted his head. He then spoke, filling the pause of her voice. "Well, I was busy, but I always welcome a new person!" He smiled to her. "After all, I can train anytime, right?"

"I didn't know what you were, at first." He blinked, and then laughed. "You couldn't tell I'm a dog boy?" He turned to smile at her. His ears twtiched as he spoke, as if to draw attention to themselves. "Well, I'm half....uhhm...something, some sort of dog creature." He scratched his head sheepishly, "I completely forget what it's called. But I'm also half human."

"Where I grew up, there aren't very many dog boys," V says, and so seriously, as though there might be other places on this normal planet where dog boys are plentiful and common place. Then V cants her head, the line of her jaw pale, delicate; the expression inherent in the gesture, inquisitive. "Half inukami?" Dog spirit. Then, perhaps because of his tone of voice when he added, But I'm also half human, she nods slightly. "Do you know Rafael?"

Re: A day of training...and something else? (V, open i think
Knives laughed a little. No one had seen many dog boys anywhere that he'd gone; his race was fairly plentiful throughout the world, yet only a few had seen them. This was due to the way that humans treated them: they were considered "demons" in the past, when demons were prevalent; and now they weren't accepted with humans, so they chose to hide themselves away in packs throughout the world. So it didn't surprise Knives that she'd never seen another dog boy. "I bet there weren't. We don't really go out near humans much...well, the others don't, I'm like....the unique one." He gave her a big smile.

"Half inukami?" He tilted his head to the side. That was the second time that he had heard that word since he had come to the high school. It also faintly brought about an old memory; Knives had heard "inukami" during his two years with his father's pack in the mountains of Japan. But he was fairly sure that word didn't describe his race very well; Amber had said it meant "dog god," and he for sure wasn't a god. Nor was he a spirit, though. "That's what Amber asked me when I told her what I was...but I don't think that's what I am. My dad's an actual...race of some sort..." He shrugged. "I'm not sure what it's called though..."

"Do you know Rafael?" He nodded and laughed. "Yeah, that kid was goofy. I met him a couple times...you know him?" He shrugged and smiled.

"The unique one?"

An echo. Twigs crunch beneath her boots, and then cement and sidewalk; she kicks a stone. V may look as if she's carved of light, but she definitely doesn't walk like she is; some people are preternaturally stealthy, they move like the wind upon water. But not V. Normal, indeed.

"Yes, I know Rafael. Maybe you two are kin?"

Falls quiet, after.

"The unique one?" Knives shrugged, and gave a bit of a nod. He looked over at V with a smile. "Yeah, I guess so. I mean, it might be just cause I was raised as a human, but I don't have any problems being around people...." He smiled and nodded. "Or maybe it's cause girls find the ears cute." Another laugh escaped him; he was obviously just being his joking, somewhat goofy self.

"Yes, I know Rafael. Maybe you two are kin?" Knives laughed and shook his head. "Oh, no. Raf's a shapeshifter. He's not a real dog person, I think he can turn into different kinds of animals..." He shrugged, and laughed, as he turned to look at her again. "I was hoping Raf was the same as me when I first met him, but he's not..." Yet another shrug. "Oh well. I wish I knew exactly what it was that I am, though..."

He smirked and looked at her. He felt the urge to ask her what it was she was - normal human, or something more? He couldn't tell; there was some sort of feeling about her, yet she looked like a normal human....Instead, he changed the subject to something he felt wouldn't bother the girl as much. "Uhhm...so how long have you been at MHS?"
