AN OUNCE OF BRASS
Hey gang,

I'm considering naming my new crime/thriller novel AN OUNCE OF BRASS, based on a snippet of dialog. Basically, one character tells another "anyone with an ounce of brass" would do x action.

I was hoping to get some feedback on it. Like it? Hate it? Lemme know.

Take care,
Mike

I like it. It's intriguing. It's got a ring. Works well for dark crime; horror audiences might not find as appealing. Can you give a little more context?

Re: brass tax
I half agree with Mike, and half don't. The name doesn't have to say it all..it just has to say enough. In that context, "An Ounce of Brass" will be adequate IF the resulting story is about courage or bravado or something like that.

IMHO, of course. -Mikey-

You're right, Mikey. And as Mike O's description suggested, it's about a character's challenge. That's the thing: the title inherently makes the book sound like a character-centered story (about courage). So not a bad title at all, if that's the focus.

Big ol' brass ones
Thanks guys.

The novel is more of a crime novel than the usual horror I write. Courage isn't necessarily a main theme, but it does play a role. A character is essentially faced with a shitty situation and deals with it poorly. Rather an understatement, but that's about it. You'll see. :)

Feedback's been all positive so far, or at worst neutral, so I'll probably be sticking with it unless something better comes up.

Fistful of Platinum, eh? Funny, but that's about all it takes to create a nuclear weapon. Though I don't recommend holding platinum in one's fist. Might sting a bit.

Take care,
Mike

PS: There's a ton of Mikes out there. There were six of us in my 8th grade PE class. Ugh.

Mike,

I think you got Platinum confused with Plutonium. Platinum is a precious metal like silver, gold, brass. Plutonium is the radioactive element used in nuclear fusion.

And that concludes our chemistry lesson for today.

D'OH!!
Don't know what I was thinking at the time. I know the difference between platinum and plutonium and just fucked up.

Between my old man (who worked with nuclear weapons in the Army), Mikey (who manages nuclear reactor), my friend Rich (who is an operator at the nuke plant down the street from me) and my father-in-law (who is a maintenance crew manager at a nuclear power plant several miles down the road), I should _definitely_ have caught that.

Dammit. I blame a total lack of sleep.

Thanks for catching that.

Take care,
Mike

And here I was not reading. Good thing you got it from Randy, Mike, because I woulda been on you like white on ivory. As for now, you're spared.
