AOL 6.0 AOL is coming out with a new version of their software. The new feature will be that subscribers of AOL won't be able to change the home page the browser loads by default. AOL says it makes it easier for people without cutting features. So now instead of having your own homepage to boot up at your web browser you will be stuck loading the "A-O-HELL" webpage.*L* Sorry I don't like AOL. I never had it for an ISP provider. I have known people that have had it before and they encountered several problems doing tasks on the web. AOL censors certain parts of the internet. Although it might sound appealing for a family to have an ISP censoring certain things online, it is against free speech. Running certain applications that work on the web might not work with AOL. I am a big defendant of " be there when your kids are surfing online ". Even if you use certain software to block websites that are bad for kids, there will always be a way to work around that. The same goes for AOL censoring their customers to certain websites online. Several software packages out there will help you control what your kids view. But nothing will ever beat you being beside them, and sharing the experience with them. Edited by: Carrie at: 10/29/00 9:48:59 am |

Re: AOL 6.0
Don't even get me started on parents that leave the tv, video games, and computers as babysitters or devices to "occupy" their kids all day. It makes me so sad.
I believe that parental controls are necessary, and I don't mind a little software that assists parents in exercising those controls, but I think AOL takes it too far. The average internet person starts out with AOL because it's so well advertised, and they just don't even realize the other options. It's late, I am sleepy. *LOL* I just wanted to acknowledge your post and say...I hear ya! Sara |
