[Laertes]
Given the important role the grogs play, both in guarding the covenant and assisting with expeditions into the wilds, it seems a prudent use of time to make sure that we avoid deaths wherever possible. The difficulty, however, is determining exactly what items - magical or mundane - would prove most useful. I doubt there is much we could have done to prevent the deaths of Kyril or Toma, though it is possible that Stoyan and Boyko could have been saved had they had access to protective enchantments.
I would be interested in your views, Viorel, and those of my sodales on how we might augment the grogs most effectively. Ultimately, the greatest safety is the presence of a Magus, though there will be times when the grogs are separated or alone. I would be prepared, if the Council deems it appropriate, to spend a season or two crafting potions or the like that the grogs could carry that could ward blades or arrows, infuse a man with such spirit that he can ignore his wounds for the duration of a combat or even transport him instantly to a place of safety. I suspect that others of the Council would be more effective than I at creating charged items that improve weapons or armour, heal wounds or enhance perceptions.
On a related note, I feel it would be worth improving the covenant's warning system, as it is sometimes difficult to hear the bell when the storms are raging outside. Furthermore, I support Mestitia's previous suggestion that we should improve the causeway between the covenant and the village so that we can mount sorties even during times of bad weather.
