I have been told this is a common problem with Surfs. I found a split in the corrugated air hose from the air filter leading to the manifold and then called Toyota for the cost of a replacement. $110 for a bit of rubber! I then tried some after market places and no joy. I went to a plumbing and hose supply place (Purple Pig, Sunshine Vic) and they had a a hose diameter that fitted and hopefully will withstand the temp, rated to 120c. Have driven for a week and drove for quite a long time on Saturday (39c) and hose is showing no wear. Cost of hose, $8.00 Give it a try.
