June 1st - June 19th
It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.
All things must come to an end (3/11..observers wanted)
It was a typical day at Hogwarts. The students were all nestled into the Great Hall enjoying their lunch for the day. Lunch was always a crowded affair, almost the whole school, minus those freaks who liked to skip lunch and study, was piled into the room.
Sean enjoyed meals at Hogwarts. The food was excellent, it was a time to relax with your friends and of course it meant that he was able to sit with Lynn. He it Lynn weren't able to enjoy after curfew hours with each other in the comforts of they're common rooms so they enjoyed that time at the meal table.
However, to Sean, this wasn't just some typical day for him. He had gotten Lynn something, gotten her something that he thought she would like very much and that he had put some thought and quite a bit money into actually. But it would definantly be worth it to see the look on her face when he presented her with his gift.
It was because of this that Sean could careful time making sure he looked his best. Wanting to be comfortable still he wore loose fitting jeans with a short sleeved maroon polo. His hair was spike the way Lynn liked it and he wore a pooka necklace and bracelet as well as his small hoop earrings that he knew Lynn loved him to wear.
As usual Sean had Lynn at the Hufflepuff table, his house table. He animatedly talked with her about their days so far inbetween bites of the sandwhich he was eating. Nearing the end of lunch Sean just couldn't take it any longer. The whole time he was conversing with Lynn his thoughts were on that small circular box that was in his bookbag.
Finally he decided it was time. "Lynn." He started. "I have a surprise for you."
Re: All things must come to an end (3/11..observers wanted)
Lynn was having a good day, truth be told. She'd woken up on the right side of the bed, and all had been right with the world. After sneaking away to Hogsmeade with Puck and some other students a few days ago, she'd been able to forget the less pleasant doubts that she'd had after her most recent encounter with Sean in the Student Centre and focus on the good things, one of them being that basically anything seemed chaste after their late-night adventure. She was no longer even fleetingly embarrassed to snuggle up to him in public or in front of her housemates … not that she had been before, but it was the principal of the thing.
Whenever her doubts swam to the surface, she shoved them back underwater. Their tryst a few days ago had shown her something important; she was starting to realize what sort of a relationship she was ready for, and the kind that she wasn’t. She knew she couldn't avoid her feats forever, but she could at least do it until Sean graduated. Then ... they would have to talk. Until then, though, things didn't have to be doom and gloom. They still had fun together.
As was evident by their back-and-forth conversation during lunch hours. Though Lynn was usually more so the type to forego lunch and stay in her dorm and read, Sean had drawn her out to the Hufflepuff table more than once, and she had to admit that sometimes, the conversations between these housemates were fascinating to listen to. It was like attending meals on the other side of the tracks for a change. Students weren’t quite so edgy among the Hufflepuffs; most of them, anyway.
Smiling, she pushed her plate away and swallowed her last bite of food as Sean looked at her. Curious, she waited; it seemed like he was bursting to say something.
"Lynn." He started. "I have a surprise for you."
Lynn blinked, then grinned. How sweet was that? "For me? Well, I'm shocked. It's not my birthday or anything."
Re: All things must come to an end (3/11..observers wanted)
Sean couldn't help it but he loved making girls feel special. It was you could say a habit of the young man's in a way. He especially liked making Lynn happy. He was constantly trying to please her, make her feel good about herself and most of all to show her his love for her. That was why he had gotten her a gift.
He had been wanting to get her something for a while and searched everywhere for something. Finally he got the guts to ask his mother for a an idea and she sent him many magazines. Sean had also gotten the guts to tell his mother that he ws dating someone. She was quite pleased. But telling his mother also meant that his father found out.
Of course his father had some questions and was pretty upset that he hadn't told him about it. He also recieved an angry letter from his grandmother about it. His family didn't mind in the least they just wanted to know sooner and they all wanted to be the first one to know. Sean actually thought it to all be quite rediculus.
But that wasn't the point of Sean's thought process at the moment. He was focused on the gift that he was about to give Lynn, it had just arrived that morning from his mother and was just waiting to give it to her.
"For me? Well, I'm shocked. It's not my birthday or anything."
Sean just grinned and leaned down to pull out the present. "I know." he told her as he was leaning. As he brought himself upright, he kept the box behind his back and kissed Lynn on the forhead. "But you deserve one anyways."
He pulled the box out from behind his back and handed it to his girlfriend. "Here's just a little something for you. You know, to show how much I care about." Sean hoped Lynn liked the promise bracelet that he got her. He loved Lynn so much and just wanted her to know that.
Re: All things must come to an end (3/11..observers wanted)
Lynn couldn’t help but smile when he said, ”I know.” It was a comment that would sound entirely too cocky coming from most people – herself included, though she was purposely cocky sometimes to get a laugh out of her friends – but from him, it just sounded sweet. She loved that he tried to surprise her sometimes, and this time, he had certainly succeeded. They hadn’t exchanged gifts for Valentine’s Day, but to her, the confession of their fast-growing love had been gift enough.
Otherwise, there had been no occasions to exchange presents. Her birthday wasn’t until June, and they hadn’t started going out until after his birthday. His 18th birthday. No, Lynn, stop it! You’re not supposed to think about that right now. It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter at all. Just concentrate on the fact that Sean is a gentleman and that he has just gotten you something, totally out of the blue.
"But you deserve one anyways."
She smiled and closed her eyes briefly as he kissed her on the forehead and decided that any quip she could make in response to that would sound snippy, stupid or simpering, so it would be better not to say anything at all. As he pulled a box out from behind his back, Lynn blinked several times before she took it. It was the size of a jewellery box, but it couldn’t be … could it?
Biting her lip, she smiled at him as he said, "Here's just a little something for you. You know, to show how much I care about."
She accepted the box from him and kissed him on the cheek before she even looked down at it. “Thank you,” she said softly. Opening the box, she found the bracelet inside, and her heart turned to goo. Blinking back tears, she held it up and looked at it, turning it this way and that. Eyes wide with astonishment, she looked at Sean and whispered, “It’s beautiful. No one’s ever given me jewellery before.”
A slow smile spread across her face as she held it out to him. “Will you help me put it on?” She offered both the bracelet and her left wrist to him, waiting patiently. Grinning, she playfully tried to meet his gaze. “Honestly though, this is too special a gift to be a ‘just wanted to say ‘I love you’ gift’. What’s going on in that head of yours?”

It was a surprise that Sean's hands weren't shaking when he handed over the box to Lynn. He was surprisingly nervous, wondering and hoping with all might that Lynn would like the bracelet he had picked out. He didn't really have any experience picking out jewerly so he wasn't sure exactly what she would like. But he bravely chose an article that he thought would fit Lynn and portray his feelings for her well.
Sean had never really gotten girls jewerly, well jewerly that had meaning behind it anyways. Sure he had bought girls necklaces and earrings and the whole shebang but he hadn't really put as much thought or as much money as this particular beauty.
As Lynn took the box from Sean and gave him a quick kiss he waited with bated breath, trying not to appear as nervous as he felt. Oh how romantic I'm being he thought annoyed that he was giving her the gift during lunch. But he just couldn't wait any longer and not everything had to be exactly right and perfect did it?
When she opened it Sean watched her cautiously as she shifted the box this and that way, trying to get it in a whole and then her eyes widening. “It’s beautiful. No one’s ever given me jewellery before." Sean wanted to just sigh with relief at that moment but instead just grinned from ear to ear. "Well there's a first time for everything." He told her as a simple reply.
"Will you help me put it on?”
"Of course I will." He told her taking the box in one hand and the given wrist in the other. Carefully he took the bracelet out of the box and set it on Lynn's wrist. “Honestly though, this is too special a gift to be a ‘just wanted to say ‘I love you’ gift’. What’s going on in that head of yours?”
"Well," he started. He was looking down at her wrist, as he turned it over and brought the ends of the bracelets together. "I do love you" He glanced up for a second giving her a slightly cheeky grin before looking down and finishing by clasping the bracelet.
"And I was sort of hoping you would wear this as a, you know, sort of a promise bracelet." Sean looked up at Lynn then. "You know, for future references and such" He was slightly uncertain in his voice at this point, not knowing how Lynn would take this dispay of commitment.
The seventh year loved Lynn dearly and wanted her to know that he saw her in his future. He didn't want a future without her, at least that was how he was thinking at the momment. Sean was caught up in the moment of the pairs relationship and this was where it lead him. He waited patiently for Lynn's reply, a tender smile on his face.
Re: All things must come to an end (3/11..observers wanted)
Lynn felt like she couldn’t stop smiling. It wasn’t that she was the kind of girl who loved material things above all else; on the contrary, her biggest material obsession was books. But it was just such a sweet gesture, and for him to pick out something that suited her so well … it was wonderful, really. She couldn’t think of any other word to describe it.
"Well there's a first time for everything.”
Indeed, there was. She had had a lot of firsts with Sean, it seemed. Her first actual date, her first cuddling session … and he was her first love. She couldn’t believe how lucky she was to have such a kind and caring person for her first amour. Not everyone was quite so lucky. He constantly made her smile and laugh. She was the kind of person who simply loved to be alive, and could get giddy simply from waking up on the right side of the bed.
"I do love you"
Lynn smirked at him in response to his cheeky grin, but then looked back down at the bracelet, admiring how well it fit and looked on her arm. When had he gotten this? How had he picked it out? So many questions, but none of them really mattered. “I love you, too.” When he clasped it shut, she pulled her arm back and rubbed her wrist lightly, looking at him as he seemed about to give her the real reason that he’d given it to her. She felt like she was flying.
"And I was sort of hoping you would wear this as a, you know, sort of a promise bracelet." Sean looked up at Lynn then. "You know, for future references and such"
And now she had crashed down once more. As the comment evoked a tender, soft smile on his face, Lynn struggled to hold back tears. She felt as though her heart had fallen deep into the darkest part of her soul. What she had thought only moments before came back to her in full force, as did every other one of her doubts. He was eighteen. She was fifteen. He was graduating in a couple of months. He would get a job. She had two years of school left, and he was talking about marriage in a few years?
This wasn’t his fault. If anyone’s, it was hers. She closed her eyes and bowed her head briefly. They were so high, that it was impossible not for them both to fall far, far down. Opening her eyes, she bit her lip and worked diligently at the clasp of the bracelet, working at it until it came undone. Looking down at it once more, she offered it to Sean.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered hoarsely, “But I can’t do that.” She edged closer to him on the bench, still holding the bracelet. “I’ve been committed to you, Sean, and I love you, but I won’t promise myself to you. You can’t ask me to do that.”
Lynn braced herself for the backlash.

Re: All things must come to an end (3/11..observers wanted)
Seeing Lynn smile made Sean feel amazingly good. It was great seeing his girlfriend so pleased. Once again the older boy thought of how fast their relationship had gone. They barely knew each other one second and then the next they were dating. Life was just so must easier to go through with a girlfriend, not that Sean's sole happiness relied on Lynn. If someone based their happiness on just one thing and then that thing was gone, where did that leave them?
“I love you, too.”
That had to be one of the best things to here. It just made Sean feel like Lynn was on the same page in the relationship as he was. It was a nice reassurance. Sean didn't think that Lynn cared for him as he did her but it was still nice to hear it some times.
When Sean asked Lynn to wear it was a promise to him he expected a yes, a nod, a smile, but certainly not a glance down, a bowed head, and a closing of the eyes. He didn't know what to think. Was she really choked up at what he said? Was she too happy for words? Sean hoped that answer was yes.
But then he saw fumbled for the bracelet and unclasp it. No, no! He thought in a panic, although his expression he kept placid. She wasn't doing what he thought she was doing, Merlin, please let his thoughts be wrong! Then Lynn offered the bracelet back. The seventh years fears were confirmed. He closed his eyes, not in offence but in slight pain of what was happening.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered hoarsely, “But I can’t do that.” She edged closer to him on the bench, still holding the bracelet. “I’ve been committed to you, Sean, and I love you, but I won’t promise myself to you. You can’t ask me to do that.”
Sorry? Committed? I love you? But yet she wouldn't promise to be with him in the future. It just didn't make sense of to Sean, he couldn't find any sense what so ever in what his girlfriend was saying to him. He slightly trembled, he knew he would have to fight for this. Sean didn't want Lynn to feel forced to wear the bracelet or to feel forced to care about him but it was obvious that she did.
She had said that he couldn't ask her to promise herself to him. Was that asking alot? After all they had said that they loved each other. Was it just too much for her to deal with? Sean could of sworn on his life that Lynn had felt the same way. Why would she be "committed" to him couldn't "promise" for a future?
Sean knew he couldn't just sit there with his eyes closed and say nothing. But it was so hard to find the right words to say with out being rude and offense. Even though it was in Sean's nature to be polite this action felt as though his heart was being nawed at. Maybe it wasn't what he thought it was, maybe she was under some type of stress and wasn't thinking properly.
"Lynn," he finally breathed. His eyes were still closed but he swallowed and finally was brave enough to open them and face the girl that he loved. "I would never ask you to promise yourself to me unless I thought that you cared about me equally." He looked at the bracelet offered to him. "I gave you bracelet because I care about you." He was feeling rather lost and desperate at the moment.
"I thought you loved me?" He asked her. "I don't understand. You say that you have been committed but is t his as far as you're really to go?" Sean felt hopeless. If she knew this was as far as she could extend her feelings than what was the point of the relationship, it all seemed pointless now.
No it wasn't pointless becasue then that would making none of these feelings and none of the time they spent together have any meaning. And they did have meaning to him. Lots of meaning. He helped make a stressed student relax and enjoy life more and now she wasn't really to take it a step farther?
"You can't mean what you're saying" He said, knowing that she very well could. "Feelings don't end just like that do they?" Sean knew he was speaking irrationally. Lynn told him she loved him but she wasn't ready for that type of commitment, Sean was just having a little difficulty processing it at the moment.
"Lynn," He said, almost in a begging voice. "I'm not understanding you right now, I thought I knew you better. I guess I was wrong." Sean knew he sounded pitiful and that's what made all this the worse to him.

Re: All things must come to an end (3/11..observers wanted)
Lynn knew that what she had just said was sure to be a blow to Sean, particularly as they were in the middle of the lunch crowd. Obviously, he hadn’t expected her to try and give his gift back … and she shouldn’t have had to. She hadn’t expected that it would be a gift with strings attached. If he had wanted a small favour, that would’ve been cute. But a promise that she would spend the rest of her life with him? That was far, far too much for him to ask, even though she felt she had fallen deeply in love with him.
When she saw him close his eyes and tremble, Lynn prayed fervently that he wasn’t about to cry. This was embarrassing enough for him as it was, being rejected by his girlfriend, but he had to understand her reasoning! When he said her name softly and opened his eyes again, Lynn saw that he wasn’t crying, thank Merlin, but there was something awful in his gaze … something tragic.
"I would never ask you to promise yourself to me unless I thought that you cared about me equally."
Any hopes that she had had that he would understand without her having to explain vanished out the window as if they had been whipped away by a peck of owls. How dare he imply that she didn’t care for him? Just because she was fifteen and didn’t want to be pulled into a commitment when they both might change, personality-wise, sooner or later, didn’t mean that she didn’t love him. The respect that he had earned from her, however, was draining by the minute.
"I gave you bracelet because I care about you."
Hearing the confusion in his voice, Lynn said softly, “I know, Sean.” About to suggest that they go somewhere more private to talk about this – maybe he would realize that this made more sense – she opened her mouth to speak, but then he delivered the crushing blow.
"I thought you loved me?" He asked her. "I don't understand. You say that you have been committed but is t his as far as you're really to go?"
Pain began clawing its way at her gut and her heart. “Sean,” Lynn said, not bothering to bring her voice to a lower level, “Stop it. You’re talking about an ultimatum. I didn’t say that I wanted to stop this, stop us, and I damn well didn’t say that I didn’t love you. Would you stop putting words in my mouth?” More and more, a feeling of panic and despair clawed its way to the surface. The tears she’d been holding back began to fall, once, twice, down her face.
"You can't mean what you're saying" He said, knowing that she very well could. "Feelings don't end just like that do they?"
How could he say that? She had NEVER implied for one second that her feelings for him had changed. It wasn’t like there was another boy – she hadn’t even thought of anyone else since they’d started going out. She hadn’t changed. She was still the same, sometimes mature, sometimes class-clownish girl he’d fallen in love with. Why couldn’t he see that? The Lynn that sat before him wasn’t any different, but he … he was seeming more and more pigheaded by the minute. She opened her mouth once more to speak, but then clamped it shut.
"Lynn," He said, almost in a begging voice. "I'm not understanding you right now, I thought I knew you better. I guess I was wrong."
Now he had gone too far. The pain resonating within her was fuelling not just sadness, now, but rage. Shoving her dishes away from her so that they catapulted off the other side of the table, she stood from the bench and faced him furiously. At this moment, no one else existed but the young, impudent, foolish man sitting before her. Lynn swiped tears away from her face.
“Don’t you dare say that,” she shrieked, not bothering to monitor her volume anymore. “Don’t you dare say that we have been anything but happy. We’ve gone to Hogsmeade, we’ve gone ice skating, we’ve read side by side, we’ve snogged after-hours. What you don’t seem to realize is that I am not a liar. I tell the truth if it kills me. I told you I loved you, Sean Abernathy-Raelene, and I bloody well meant it. Your memory seems to have failed you in that you’ve forgotten we’re at school. You’re graduating this year, and you’ll get a job, and you’ll be out in the world.”
“Me? I’m fifteen. I have two years of school left, and I still have a lot of growing up to do. I thought that we could have a relationship and try and keep it together, with no bindings, so that we would both be free to grow. If you’re thinking that I just want to sleep around the castle while you work diligently away, shame on you. You showed me that someone actually could love me for more than my willingness to jump in the nearest broom closet.”
She knew that her face was red from anger and her eyes puffy from tears, but she didn’t care. Nothing mattered except making things clear. She glanced down at the bracelet she held once more and then stalked up to him, looking down into his eyes. She lowered her voice into one of cold calculation, but years of acting lessons still made it project across the room. “I was faithful to you in thoughts and actions. I loved what we did together. I loved how we could talk. It’s not my fault that you got swept away by notions that we were meant to be together forever.”
Lowering her voice once more, though now only he could hear it, she dropped the bracelet on the table beside him. “You want to understand? Here’s the truth. Our relationship scares me. My feelings for you are so intense that they make me want to do things and say things that I’m not ready for. You think me a coward for not wanting to be yours forever, but it takes as much courage to say ‘no’ as it does to be together forever. Don’t you ever go taking me for less than I am, or my word for less than it is.”
Feeling the rage pulse away, she turned on her heel and swept out of the Great Hall, rubbing her face as she went.

Re: All things must come to an end (3/11..observers wanted)
As soon as Sean had finished his little rant he didn't even realize how rude and selfish he had sounded. Sean never could remember a time in his life that he treated a girl, or anyone for that matter the way he just treated Lynn. He loved this girl and not being able to comprehend how she was feeling was something that had never happened before. He was in shock and emotions went haywire. Somewhere something snapped in him. but it appeared that not just he was the one to snap. At his words Lynn seemed to break down and that was the worst he had ever felt in his entire life.
“I know, Sean.”
Deep down Sean knew that Lynn understood but he was in a catapult of despair right now. He felt utterly rejected even though what Lynn had said make sense. He assumed that by giving the bracelt meant that she didn't care for him anymore. Sean was so trapped in his emotions for Lynn that her not wanting to promise to stay with him through the years seemed like the end of the world.
“Stop it." Sean stopped speaking immediatly at those words, she had never heard Lynn use that tone. But while she spoke his head was reeling with all that he wanted to say. Of course he was still listening to Lynn, he hadn't lost all respect completely for her.
You’re talking about an ultimatum. I didn’t say that I wanted to stop this, stop us, and I damn well didn’t say that I didn’t love you. Would you stop putting words in my mouth?”
Rationally it made complete sense to him. Of course she hadn't refused to love him but his heart and mind weren't really corroperating at the moment. Before he could stop himself he had started up again and this time he had gone to far. What happened next was both the most embaressing, depressing, shocking and down right confusing thing Sean had ever witnessed.
Don’t you dare say that,” she shrieked, not bothering to monitor her volume anymore.
What had happened to the Lynn that he loved? Was this the Lynn that everyone else saw except for him? Sean for a split second was actually scared of her. People must be thinking he was a fool. He stared at Lynn, sputtering to get words out as she spoke. What the bloody hell had he been thinking!? All that he said rushed back to him. He must be thought of as the biggest jerk in the history of Hogwarts and that was saying something. How could he go from being the sweetest guy to the biggest putz? How could he allow himself to get taken so away from his actual feelings?
Now Sean was no longer shocked but felt incredibly shallow and guilty. How dare he assume her feelings for him change? He had made her feel special and wanted. He had seen her in a different light and now she must feel horrible and used. He had no right to ask her wait for him, she had her own life to live.
“I was faithful to you in thoughts and actions. I loved what we did together. I loved how we could talk. It’s not my fault that you got swept away by notions that we were meant to be together forever.”
Sean wanted to tell Lynn that he was stupid and complete irrational. He wanted to jump up and tell her that he loved her and that he was sorry. The seventh year wanted to wrap his arms around her and kiss her, telling him that she was completely right and he was wrong. But he didn't feel like getting smacked even though he deserved it.
Before Sean could even say anything Lynn whipped away and Sean sat there in shock. His shock took over his embaressement. The rest of the school didn't matter. He had just lost the girl that he loved and ruined everything. "I didn't" he muttered sadly, not knowing what to do.
