Amber Ramius / Kanami Miyamoto
Name: Amber Ramius

Age: 16

Grade: 11th

Appearance: Amber is a girl of slender, healthy build with a child-like face free of makeup (except for lip gloss), long coppery blond hair and dark expressive eyes (see avatar). Her style of dress is specifically Gothic Lolita though she occasionally wears different colors and types of dresses within the style. She prefers black lacy dresses, skirts of ruffles and thigh-high stockings. On her back are a pair of white wings and located more to the small of her back is a scar that resembles a cross. Stemming from this mark and two inches up are additional marks that resemble a thick henna tattoo. Whenever she's not in goth-loli dresses, she tend to dress in clothes that accentuate her figure, however that is on rare occasions. Amber wears a minute amount of jewelry; silver cross earrings or a necklace if needed. Her cherished crystal pendulum "Djibril" is tied securely around her wrist at all times.

{Just an example of her manner of dress}

Personality:
Amber appears to be a soft-spoken loner and a constant daydreamer in class, especially Math. She often seems detached from everything that goes on around her, lost in her own thoughts. She has a habit of observing other people from a distance at first, especially if a person strikes her as intriguing. She's simply afraid of what others would think of her if they knew of her strange heritage and would prefer to be alone to protect herself. Because of this fear, she seems to treat people with little warmth and distance. Despite this, people are still drawn to her (fortunate or unfortunately). Since her stay in MHS however, she has become more friendly and warm while meeting new people but preferring to still keep them at arm’s length until she knows more about them.
Amber stays away from crowds, and gets visibly nervous when people stand too close to her or stare at her wings.
It’s not easy to tell what it takes to push Amber’s buttons, but there are a few that exist. Touching her wings immediately (though she tries not to let it happen) causes her to lash out with a punch or kick, as her wings are sensitive to touch. The issue of “judgment” arouses a violent reaction from her, however the reason for it is only known to Amber. Rarely does she say what bothers her, the few that knows her well enough could figure out when there is something on her mind.
Those who are proven to be trustworthy actually find that beneath the initial distance is a loyal, playful girl and highly knowledgeable in world folklore. In other words, she's as cute as the goth-loli image she presents herself. However, not very many people are lucky to see that side of her save her mother and Ria.
There is a violent edge to Amber's sweet personality, but it is something that she's highly protective and secretive about. The fewer that knows about this darker side, the better. The few that see it, she implores for their silence. This agressive side to Amber is still a mystery to her, but she's aware that it is an innate part of her existance. She's unable to recall memories or anything that occurs when she taps into this hostility, but she can piece an idea of what happens from her dreams and flashes of memories. At times, the memories are too much and engages in a ritual: she locks herself in her dorm room for a few days and then emerges feeling well enough. She rarely tells other what those dreams tell her, save for her closest friends.
Her talents include a vast knowledge of mysticism and occult, sewing, speaking Latin (she just doesn't realize that she can) and knowing a passable amount of Japanese. She also has the ability to think in "manga form", basically her feelings to certain situations can be summed up in a panels of manga purely existing in her imagination. Her hobbies are making custom "Dollfies" of people she knows, Tai Chi and practicing tea ceremony. She loves to write and she hates math describing it as a "fixed nightmare." She hopes to design and sell her own costumes.

Special Powers:
1) "Aequitas": Her Tai Chi sword is her most cherished gift from her missing father. The sword and the pendulum are the two essential components that assists her powers. Both contain seals inside both weapons that burns anyone other than Amber who touches it. She has trained (and still continues to) for about 2 years under the guidance of her friend Ria's godfather to harness her chi energy to attack the spirit of her opponent and defend using her own spirit. The key to tapping her chi involves spiritual concentration, and harmony between her body and mind. Her chi is infuses with the sword, enabling her to attack with grace and ease. The sensation the opponent feels attacked by this chi energy is the same as if one had been atacked with a physical sword without the physical marks.
Unfortunately using her chi energy drains her physically. She can also use the sword by itself, bit it is weaker than when used with spirit energy. The more she trains at this, the better she would be able to withstand the effects and the better she can put her chi to use.

2) "Djibril" : The pendulum, another gift from her father, glows with an eerie light, alerting her when something around her is amiss. It serves another purpose; it provides a power boost so that she can use her chi energy a little longer than usual. There is a small niche in place for it in the hilt of the sword. Like the sword, it requires the full concentration and balance of her mind, body and spirit to activate it. It has a major drawback: it usually counts as a last resort to give her a little extra boost in power in case she's ever in danger. Using it would drain her to the point where she completely passes out. A good rest fixes that easily but she considers it unsafe to use and refrains from tapping into it. So far, she had only used it once and it had only lasted less than 10 seconds. Learning to use it more would increase the duration.

-Sanctus
Her pendulum is now able to produce a similar attack to her sword, a blast of chi energy in the shape of crosses. While it is weaker than her sword, it uses less chi and an be used for a longer period of time. Unlike the sword, being attacked with chi of the pendulum produces the sensation of being attacked by seveal small daggers. It proves useful if she doesn't have her sword with her. Supposedly it also has a chance of blessing objects, but it's entirely based on practice and luck.
Overuse is similar to her other attacks (fatigue) but it's easier to overcome than her sword.

-Vis Vires
The ability to influence the direction of her blast of chi. By concentrating on the link between her own chi and the sword, she could control the direction of her blasts. The chi blasts will follow after the target for up to about 20 seconds before it dissapates as normal, or returns to her body for her sword to reuse. For now, it can only be used on one chi manifestation at a time, two if her chi is managed correctly.

-Sensus
The pendulum is now able to pinpoint energy with greater ease. The colors that it can change to varies with the energy closest to her, and Amber is able to discern the meanings of the colors. As long as the pendulum stays on her person, she can feel the sensations of the energy closest to her.

-Angelus Errare
(Nephilim Lvl 1)
More of a curse than an ability to one being half-angel, and the first step in the darker direction. A lesser degree of this ability has always existed in Amber, but it always was brief and completely unpredictable.
Three conditions normally must exist: she must be completely sure that: her body, a friend or other "innocent" is in danger and she must feel that this transformation must be necessary for the danger to cease.

This ability will tap into the forbidden half of her conciousness; her attacks will deal more damage, so much that the chi that usually attacks the spirit will also appear on the skin as if she had dealt damage with her own blade. The ability will also allow her to internally regulate her energy so that she would last longer in battle (about six minutes more).

Using this ability is usually saved until last resort simply because of the drawbacks. Everytime she taps into this forbidden ability, Amber becomes reckless and will fight to the point of exhaustion. Also, a mysterious mark that resembles a henna tattoo will appear starting on the small of her back near her cross shaped birthmark. The more she uses this (especially if there is death involved-not PC deaths usually), the more the mark will grow.
[The mark is a mystery for Amber, but it does not bode well for her soul...]

History:
Amber was born on October 1st under very abnormal circumstances. As a child, her mother Ciana would tell her the same story; in her days as a hit man for the CIA, a crucial mission in Russia went horribly wrong. She was at death's door when a handsome and mysterious man rescued her. The two fell in love while she had been in recovery, married a year later and moved to the tranquil city of Savannah, Georgia. One day, he revealed to her his darkest secret: he really was an angel on Earth! Amber was born a few months later, and as a child she was cheerful and radiant as sunlight with the ability to talk to total strangers with ease. Her mother truly believed she had an angelic princess of a daughter.
While Amber may have never fully believed the stories her mother told her, a lot of facts about her father seemed to make sense. She could barely remember her father's face, he called several time by phone to speak to her and visited once in a while. Over time, the calls ceased and so did the visits. Ciana's reply to her father’s diminishing prescense was simple and warm, "He cannot always be around for us, but he still loves us more than anything. He maybe will be able to return someday to tell you that himself."

Amber wished no ill feelings on her father, and she and her mother moved on with life. Ciana moved often to different countries in an effort to culture her daughter, especially spending much of their time in Japan. There Amber met an energetic young girl named Ria Misaki who immediately became attached to her and was her first friend. Two years later, they moved to Los Angeles where strange things began to happen. Amber began to realize something about herself was different; she could hear whispers around her even when alone, she could sporadically sense the personalities of others. Most of all, a dull pain and two mysterious scars appeared on her back. It was nothing serious, she believed that it was all in her mind, all the stress of moving around and such.
Finally on her 14th birthday, she sprouted a pair of small white wings and the truth was realized. The love story between her father and mother were true; she was a nephilim, the forbidden result of love between a mortal and an angel. New questions blossomed: what would she do with her wings? What really happen to her father? Was she a monster? What would people think of her? What was she?

Ria moved to the States to stay with them shortly after her wings grew out. Amber revealed her wings to her friend and was relieved when Ria completely (and oddly enough) accepted the change. Ria's suggestion to Amber's wing problem was to adopt the style of Gothic Lolita in order to disguise the wings as accessories. Embaressing at first, but Amber come to adore the style, used to the stares and awestruck gazes as she walked the streets of Los Angeles in flowing dresses of black lace and soft ribbons. The look worked for her and she could continue with the Gothic Lolita look for years to come.

Less than a month after her birthday, a strange package arrived on Amber's doorstep, a long box and a small white box stacked one on the other. The small white box held a shimmering crystal pendant and a note in neat handwriting was wrapped around it. "You are unique, in your birth and purpose. Awareness is Key and Focus is Light. Take care, Little Wing." Inside the box was a Tai Chi sword, not as sharp but sturdy with an indent on the hilt where the pendulum was able to fit. The appearance of the sword and pendulum strikes a curious chord with Amber, what could she do with such a strange sword.
Along with her new weapons came a series of odd occurances came with her wings; eccentric people with unearthly auras, strange letters in Latin without return addresses, the feelings of being constantly watched. Somewhere between learning and adjusting to her new self, she felt what true nephilim blood felt like. A series of gruesome deaths stained her hands and led to her decision to supress her more violent being. To date, she still dare not speak about what she did or what had happened to cause it; but it's clear that she regrets what actions she took.
Those regrets persuaded Amber to enroll in special training with Ria's grandfather. For two years, he taught her the basics of Zen, Tai Chi, balance and chi energy. Her training was suddenly interrupted when Ciana without reason suddenly moves Ria and Amber and enroll them both to new schools. With Ria still in middle school, Amber is faced with having to be alone at her new school, MHS.

Unlike her previous schools, Amber seemed to have found a place for herself among the many different students that come to MHS and she finally had been able to make quite a few friends and a handful of close friends. Little by little, she opened up herself to others and made a significant change; from a shy and reserved to cheerful and friendly towards everyone she meets. Aside from the many changes, the problems she faces never leaves her mind or her dreams. The past and the karma she has built up threatens to catch up to her and destroy her. Even though she has now found support among her close friends, she still wishes to protect them from the dark side of herself, and the agents of Heaven and Hell that have now been appearing more and more often...

EXAMPLE ROLE-PLAYING POST:

"You have something more...I mean, than just your wings. You are both human and angel. Do you know...how important your position is in this chaos? You're the link between Heaven and Earth, with all the others like you, and do not have the problem of becoming ...'fallen' You must choose. Will you be on the side of the God, or...the Fallen?"

That was what Lady Ishmerai had told her that day, and Amber could not give her a quick, easy answer. The link between heaven and earth...it was such a grand idea, something far greater than she could ever even begin to think about. More than she ever wanted to believe!

But the thought seemed far too much, far too frightening to think about. Choosing one side, what if she chose wrong? What would be the consequences? With God's second decree, words that He said himself, she felt she was lost. Time was running out and she had no idea what to do.

Amber had returned to the park where she had met both Lady Ishmerai and Khi'lek. The sky was darkened with oncoming rain. Meeting the Lady Ishmerai freed her, allowed her to release her wings rather than binding them down. She was free from the pain, almost free from the fear of being cast down in the eyes of the humans around her. With the next obstacle she was facing now, the rain was a welcomed sight.

She took a seat on the same bench, covering her face with her hands. She felt like crying but she held back all she could. The feeling, the thought of having to be “a link” between the two greatest forces was overpowering.

I just wish there was another way…I know I’ll have to face it, but I don’t know what to do. I’m not a child of god…I fell already didn’t I?

The thought made her cry. Nephilim were forbidden creatures created from the union of angels and mortal women, enormous creatures of terror that angered God. Amber looked at her own hands, gentle human hands. She didn’t look like anything the Book of Enoch described at all, but the idea of her existence angering God scared her more than anything. Would her mother be punished? Would she be saved if Amber chose the “right side”?

Khi’lek also had extended his hand out to her, just as Lady Ishmerai had. He was unlike Lady Ishmerai in many way, he was much more of a handsome, dangerous darkness. He spoke kindly to her, but she still feared him too. Amber lifted her head up. The rain was falling, drenching her and cleansing her. The rain wouldn’t aid in her decision, but it was the one bit of reality that would never change in the face of God‘s decree, one that she could still hold on to.

Name: Kanami Miyamoto

Age: 15

Grade: 10th

Appearance:
{Kanami}
{Determination!}

Kanami is a slender girl, skin: fair, her height: 5' 3" and her weight: 117 lbs. Her hair is light brown in color, always worn in two loose braids resting over her shoulders and her eyes an even lighter brown and expressive. Her manner of dress varies from day to day, except when it comes to her passion; otherwise she doesn't care too much about style. She has a scar on her left am from a childhood accident and one recent scar from a rogue mechanical pencil attack. Her hair conceals her peirced ears and she wears an amulet, where a "wishing stone" is encased inside.

Personality: Kanami is an expressive, energetic girl who has a passion for gathering mass amounts of detail: useless trivia, gossip, observations and the like. To her, any peice of information is another stepping stone in the journey for "the Truth". If she catches wind something interesting, Kanami will go to extreme lengths to uncover more details to get to the core of the event. She would wear disguises, cosplay, attempt to blend in with her surroundings, anything to aid her in her quest for truth. She's inquisitive, assertive, possibly obsessive-compulsive and a fast talker which could be considered a talent and an annoyance to people who know of her. Though annoying, she's dead serious and dead-on in her aquired information and treats knowledge as a precious treasure; she would not just give information away without compensation. Furthermore, it's better to be on her side and treat her with respect, otherwise she can use information and action against those she dislike. All she does it gather information; now what people do with it is not her problem!
Most who know of her usual antics (including impeccable if odd costume designs) would find it hard to believe tha she is capable of having a more subdued side to her personality. Kanami is constantly troubled by the side effects of both her newfound powers and her photographic memory; she forgets details such as room numbers, names and other sorts of information a normal person is capable of remembering. Not only does she fear this chronic forgetfulness would give other people the impression that she's an unreliable or a ditz, but she fears the possibility that she could lose more cherished information: her own memories.
Her general likes are plotting, spying on others with odd costumes and gadgets sent to her from her older brother and his "contacts". She's most amused by the situations that would arise in a superpowered school setting. She'll meddle...if it benefits her. Her general dislikes include people that talk too much about nominal and boring subjects (love, idle threats, life stories, etc), distractions from her spying jobs, "emotional vampires" (clingy people) and pity-cases. Unless a person means something to her, she cares little about people's feelings and tends to refer to other people as objects. What the hell would she care? ^_^

Special Power:
-Psychometry
(the ability to relate details of past conditions of an object, person or area). Object- When Kanami is given an object, she is able to "read" the energy history of that object just by touching it for a short period of time. For example, if she is given a marble, she would be able to relate the journey of the marble: where it went, if it was touched by other humans, etc. Her photographic memory helps record the details of the psi readings for a certain amount of time before she faints from sensory overload; the biggest downside to psychometry.

-Photographic Memory:
While her photographic memory is more of a biological anomaly, it could be considered a second power. She can store incredible amounts of details covering all the five senses. However, it makes her forgetful and she is not able to remember more mundane things (names, places, street names, etc). The drawback is the same as her psychometry and while she can record details, she has little control over what details remain in her mind.

-Touch Projection
The premise is simple: as a defense mechanism, Kanami is now able to touch an object (or surrounding) and her mind projects her body as the object she touches. While she doesn't exactly see the effect on her body take place, the fact that no one seems to realize she's present has its advantages. In other words: a chameleon effect.

(For example, if Kanami touches a lone rock, her mind projects the image and an outsider will see a pair of rocks instead. If she is resting in the grass and her hand touches a few blades, she appears as grass. This power does not work by touching a person or animal; but inanimate objects are fair game)
The condition is that her hands have to be free of gloves otherwise the power won't work. The drawback is simple: if she sneezes, coughs or is stricken with clumsiness (sudden movements basically) the projection will break and she would be visible again.

The time limit before projection breaks: 20-30 minutes of continuous use. Cooling down period before another chance for use: 1 hour.
Going over the limit begins the drawbacks. Holding the projection too long or using touch projection too often in a short period of time eventually would give way to migrane headaches.

History: Kanami is the second born child to Hatori and Natsumi Miyamoto in Kyoto, Japan but was raised in Boston, Massachustes for a majority of her life. Kanami grew up in a normal household: her father is a respected photojournalist, her mother runs a local health spa and her older brother both protect and annoys her to no end.
Since childhood, Kanami had always been able to remember a massive amount of details from picture books, television, even scenery while walking home from school. A checkup from the family doctor revealed the girl has photographic memory, nothing life threatening and an uncommom talent.
Ever since she was small, she had an interest in pretending to be a news reporter. She would always be the kind of child to turn a box into a tv and she would pretend to broadcast neighborhood news. She grew fond of writing stories and reports, and she never had a quarrel with speaking in front of a group of people. She had consistant good grades all the way up to middle school, much thanks to her ability.

Until the day her parents decided to move to New York: her her grandfather had fallen ill and requested his family move closer to spend time with him. Before Kanami knew it, she and her family packed up and moved to New York State. By the beginning of her 9th grade year, the Miyamotos had settled in Collingwood Estates and Kanami was set to be enrolled in her new high school: MHS. Kanami, distraught by the sudden changes, shared her feelings with her grandfather, that she was scared of starting a new year in high school all on her own, especially since her brother now attends college. He smiled and encouraged her to be herself, to shine bright in her talents and that all will be well.

Kanami took those words to heart, and when she arrived at MHS, the first thing she did was join the journalism club. In one of her first investigations, she was surprised to find out some of the students were...different. Powers! They seem to be something pulled stright from comic books! Kanami became partly drawn to these students and partly frightened of them; they were not normal at all! There was much interesting gossip to be drawn from them and that was all she regarded them as. Her 9th grade year was a busy one; she uncovered the entire layout of the school, formed a large data file on many of the students on her computer. She was one step closer to the Ultimate Truth, she believed!

Tenth grade year rolls around and Kanami is excited to return to school to solve more mysteries of the school and its students. Near the middle of winter break, she picked up a lovely looking stone, shaped like a hefty crescent mood and just as pearly. She was admiring it when she suddenly began to have images in her head. A volcano, a huge ocean, a crumbling sound, people stepping on it...what was going on? Then she something popped up in her mind; a wishing stone, that's what it told her. Kanami shook her head (magic never happens like that) and decided to test it. She wished with all her heart that her grandfather will get better. A week later, her grandfather slowly began to get better, talk more, become his more energetic self. The stone worked!
The strange occurance was not a solitary event, it would happen whenever she touched an object. She touched a can of soda and it would "tell" her how it came to be. She touched a tree and it bored her with the geological formation of New York state. Images from everyting she touched piled up in her mind, taking a toll on her health. She began to have headaches and faint from all the constant images that would appear in her mind like memories. Only until she was able to write it down did she began to feel better.

With school coming fast, Kanami had to face a new obstacle: she was no longer "normal". How would she be able to face her normal friends now that it seems she has powers? Would she be able to get along with the frightening people with powers?
Only one way to find out...
