It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.
An Encyclopedia of Spells
(An asterisk (*) indicates that I made up the incantation, as The Harry Potter Lexicon did not give one. I will probably comb through the books for more spells, or will have to make up some more myself for the higher years. If only J.K. Rowling would come out with another book... )
Year One: Alohamora- Charm that causes a locked door to open. Expelliarmus- Disarming Spell. Causes opponent's weapon to fly out of their hand. Four Point Spell- (Point Me) A simple spell, performed with the wand laying flat on the open palm of the caster. When the words are spoken, the wand rotates to point north. Immobulus- Stops an object or slows it down. Impervius- Makes something waterproof or water repellent. Incendio- Starts a fire. Locomotor Mortis- Leg-Locker Curse Locks together the legs of the victim, making him unable to walk. Lumos- Causes a small beam of light to shine from the end of the caster's wand. Nox- Turns off the light from a "Lumos" spell. Oculus Reparo- Simple spell which repairs a pair of eyeglasses. Reparo- Undoes damage to an object. Wingardium Leviosa- Levitation charm, causes an object to levitate.
Year Two: Aparecium- Makes invisible ink become visible. Cushioning Charm- The Cushioning Charm creates an invisible "pillow" on the handle of the broom to make flying more comfortable. Defensive Charge- (no incantation needed, automatic response) A charge like that of electricity runs through the body of a Wizard with this automatic defensive spell. Densuageo- Curse which causes the victim's teeth to enlarge grotesquely. Diffindo- Spell that cuts something open. Engorgio- Spell which causes the target to swell in size. Lumos Solarum- Generates a brilliant blast of light, as bright as the sun. Petrificus Totalus- Full body bind. Turns the entire body of the victim rigid. Reducio- Causes an object to return to it's normal size, or to shrink in size. Relashio- Releases a jet of fiery sparks. Rictusempra- Causes a person to laugh uncontrollably. Scourgify- Cleans things.
Year Three: Avis- Conjures a flock of small, twittering birds. Ceprete*- Cheering Charm. A charm that cheers a person up, makes them happy. Confundus- Causes confusion. A person who is affected by this Charm is said to be Confunded. Conjunctivitis- A spell that affects the eyes and vision of the target. Deletrius- Erases the ghost images of spells revealed by the Priori Incantatem spell. Possibly can be used to remove other spell effects as well. Flagrate- Creates a burning, fiery line in the air which can be "drawn" with the wand into specific shapes. Impedimenta- Stops an object or slows it down. Limstable*- Jelly legs jinx. Causes the target's legs to wobble uncontrollably. Obliviate- Modifies or erases portions of a person's memory. Orchideous- Conjures a bouquet of flowers out of the end of a wand. Protego- Sheild Charm. This spell creates a magical barrier which will deflect hexes thrown at the caster. Riddikulus- Defense against a Boggart, forces the creature to take on a silly appearance.
Year Four: Accio- Summoning Charm. Causes an object to fly to the caster, even over quite some distance. It would seem that the caster must know at least the general location of the object Summoned. Baccio*-Opposite of Summoning Charm. Sends an object away from the caster. Colloportus- Seals a door, making an odd squelching noise. Cross-Species Switches- Classification of Transfiguration magic in which one type of creature is transfigured into another. Furnunculus- Curse that causes boils to break out all over the victim. Obliteration- Removes traces or tracks left by someone. Stupefy- Renders the target of the spell unconscious; this spell hurls a bolt of red light. Tarantellagra- Forces the victim's legs to do a crazy dance.
Year Five: Blastrate*- Blasting Curse. Useful spell for Wizarding Duels. Ennervate- Spell used to revive a person who has been hit by a Stunner. Incarcerous- Sends thick ropes out of thin air to wrap around someone or something. Mobilicorpus- Moves a body. Pack- A spell which causes items to assemble themselves into a trunk. Reducto- Blasts solid objects out of the caster's path. Serpensortia- Causes a large serpent to burst from the end of the caster's wand. Silencio- A charm which causes something to be silent. Trispo*- Trips the target.
Year Six: Evanesco- Vanishing Spell. Makes something vanish (not just become invisible, but go away completely) Finite Incantatum- Stops currently operating spell effects. Phlipanto*- Knee-Reversing Spell. Causes the target's knee to become backwards. Cemensti*- Permanent sticking spell. Spell which magically fastens one thing to another. It is extremely difficult to remove anything fastened with a Permanent Sticking Charm.
Year Seven: Expecto Patronum- Conjures a Patronus, a silvery phantom shape, usually that of an animal, which is the embodiment of the positive thoughts of the caster. A Patronus will drive away Dementors. Homorphus Charm- A good Charm to use against a werewolf. It's exact effects aren't given. Imperturbable Charm- Creates a magical barrier on an object, such as a door, to prevent eavesdropping.
