And another thing re: guidelines ...
I meant to adress this in the other post, as well, but I got distracted and forgot.

I personally am not a fan of having IC characters and OOC folks going by the same name -- playing yourself, as it were. This rubbed off on me from AFD, where this kind of thing led to misunderstanding and flared tempers and other unpleasantness, because some folks couldn't tell when a person was posting as him/herself or when things were meant to be IC.

Now, being as all IC RP posts here are confined to the IC forum, I don't see that this should be a problem here in that way -- AFD was much less structured in that regard (although if I remember rightly, RP posts were supposed to be labelled so, and so they shouldn't have had that problem, either).

I also know that people in the otherkin (or whatever you want to call it, darnit!) communities LIKE to use their Other name for their posting alias, and will also happily RP the character if given the opportunity.

So. I'd like to get all of your thoughts on this ... if it were solely up to me, I would ask that people not play "themselves" because it kinda makes me go *squick* at the connotations, BUT, I suspect that some folks who come will want to have that opportunity and I don't want to domineer the place. ;)

I could elaborate further, but I'd just ramble (more than I already have).

Clarification
I don't mean making active posts in the non-IC forums, like giving wingsnugs and tailwagging and all that. I do that. That's just a natural part of posting somwhere like here or the GG board, as far as I'm concerned! What I mean is using the same character in the IC forum.

You probably figured that out, but I thought I ought to say so, just in case.

I have no problem with making a char to throw into the fray, infact, that's what I usually do.

I can see how playing one's self could lead to problems, especially if one didn't specify if he or she were speaking IC or OOC. I think that if someone was to play as her or himself, s/he could atleast modify the name of the char to make it something different?

Hrmm.

Well, I never liked AFD the newsgroup. Alfandria, on the other hand.... But it seemed like the NG was ripe for those kinds of problems.

I would much rather be able to play myself as a character if I wished; on the Gryphon's Guild it seems to be pretty common to do so, and we haven't had any problems arise from that. Lux and the rest could correct me if I missed something.

On the other hand, I don't RP much anymore, and when I did, I did only as non-me-characters. I just like having my options open. Especially for silly RPs ala xmas shopping at the mall, or like Crystal's Sagas.

I go squick as well abotu "playing oneself", if for only it can create a 'weird' vibe.

I've done this IRL, and made /myself up. as a character.., and it kinda got my p.o.'d as the GM tried to tell me who i was and who I wasn't.., all because their pov was not mine own. :P feh
Not to mention to try and play "myself" in situations that what I would normally react to was a rule of thumb..., most people got to know bits of me that I would preferr to stay under wraps. :P

But that's that experience, an un happy one, but one that may or may not have revelance for this sort of thought process ( depending on who you ask. ;) ). But the feeling is still present, be it online or offline.

I dun like it personally. I do have a character that goes by the same name as "Drakenhart" but its not 'me' persay. If ya get the gist ;)

If it were something along those lines, then as long as it is made fairly and obviously /clear/ what the rp is and what the OOC is, then I don't see how that could be /too/ much of an issue.

I'm sure we can all work out a decent compromise. ;)
