Any good COH sites?
Anyone know of any good boards for City of heros? I've seen the info at boxhead's site, and its helpful, but I'd love to find a board that discusses it, other than the official boards.
I only know of the boards on the main site, really. I read those and the beta ones...
And I will say(and its all I will say , so far I'm loving this game.
Re: Any good COH sites?
warcry has some good info but the black on blue text takes superpowers to read. Meddik and the impending beta now have me more curious about the classes and types of powers.

If anyone has any general questions, feel free to ask here. I will try to answer them as best I can. I know many of the lurkers here are currently in the beta.

Re: Any good COH sites?
Boxheads site is the best out there.
If I were to detail everything it would take a month.
To sum it up:
Tankers
-Primary powers are self defense. Such as self heals, damage reductions, anti stun/mez, etc.
-Secondary powers are melee attacks. A few range attacks depending on which power set.
Blasters
-Primary powers are ranged attacks/AE's. They are the big nukers, much like EQ's wizards.
-Secondary powers are either more attacks, or utility, such as powers that increases the groups accuracy, slow mobs, etc.
Defenders
- Primary powers are group defense. Some power sets are all healing, others are all force fields, etc.
- Secondary powers are mostly the Blasters primary set, but a bit weaker. Defenders can pretty much be summed up as specializing in helping friends, or being the jack of all trades.
Scrappers
- Primary powers are melee attacks. These are pretty straight forward. Much like a rogue or blademaster type.
- Secondary powers are defense, or utility types. Such as lowering all mobs chance to hit around the hero, etc.
Controllers
- Primary powers are well... controlling. They can stun/mez/confuse mobs.
- Secondary powers are mostly the defenders primary set, but weaker.
That pretty much sums up the general overview of each type.

Re: Any good COH sites?
Ah, that's what I thought. So basically, details such as anyone who plays a scrapper gets 10lbs of cherry flavored jello delivered to them by a member of the Swedish Bikini Team upon launch is off limits, right?
j/k of course
But seriously though, things like what classes are available and their basic abilities is pretty common knowledge anymore. Anything that a non beta tester needs to know is on Boxhead's site, and his site already gives a lot of info as it is. I'd say enough to help you decide whether or not you'd like to play the game, and if so, it's enough info to help you pre-plan what type of character you'd like to play.
Re: Any good COH sites?
Boxheads site is a bit out of date, though. The data was mostly gotten in or before Decemeber last year at a trade show. The beta process has changed a few things, for the better.

Re: Any good COH sites?
On the official Boards, Most people seem to say that Blasters have been enhanced, to make them a bi more durable and soloable. Not sure if that came from a dev, etc. but the people saying it seem to know what they are talking about.
It looks like Boxhead has updated more receontly than december. He does have sources listed for all of his info, so that seems to be reassuring. (Of course, it could have changed...)
Anyway, My main will almost certainly be a defender, with Empathy as a primary (Best Healing set).
If Telekinetic Blast and Psionic Tornado are considered physical attacks, and can be used on things that resist direct mental attacks like robots, then I'll probably go with Psychic Blast as my secondary. If Psychic blast leaves me utterly defenseless against certain mobs, then I'll go with Power Blast.. I'm assuming that there would be fewer mobs resistant to that than psionic powers.
I'm posting the below about healing at the official boards, but some of you may be interested in it too.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Defenders:
A Defender with Primary empathy looks like the hands down best at Healing. Just about very power they get seems to be some sort of heal, recovery, regen, or similar.
It looks like some of the Defender Primary sets that can have Healing are Dark Miasma (Drain from enemies), Kinetics (Drain from enemies) Radiation posion (non-draining heal and maybe a regen buff?) Storm Summonning (At least one group heal.)
That means almost any Defender, except Forcefield have some healing abilities. Its Probably like EQ Clerics/Druids/Shamen at early levels... Empaths are Best at it, but the others can do it well in a pinch, and have more versatility. So if you plan on making a defender, Others are probably going to expect you to have healing. Defender Forcefield people, make sure your groups aren't making that assumption.
I don't see any secondary powers for Defenders that involve healing.
Controllers:
I don't see any kind of healing in their primaries, but almost all of their secondaries look like they have Some sort of Heals, But I wouldn't bet on any of them being as good as a Defender at it, since the secondary pool is supposed to be weaker than the primary. Hopefully a Controller with empathy secondary would be as good at healing as one of the non-empath Defenders is. Again, another wild ass guess.
Tankers:
For their primaries, 3 of the 4 Defenses (All but Invuln.) have some sort of heal/regen it looks like, but I'm betting self-only, or noncombat stuff. Just a hunch. Besides, they will probably need it for themselves most if they are tanking.
For their secondaries, some of the names of powers like Ice patch and Breath of Fire could be healing related, but thats really just another wild ass guess. Until NDA is lifted, its anyone's guess.
Scrappers:
With shadow fighting primary they have Life drain related heals it looks like, but not early on. In their secondary, they can pick up some healing with dark armor, and I'd assume a lot of self healing with regeneration. I have no idea if any of that can be group heals, or if it is self only.
Blasters:
I don't see any healing at all for them, in primaries or secondaries, unless the ones listed as possiblities under secondaries for tankers are healing (Ice patch and Breath of Fire). Again, I wouldn't bet on it.
If power magnitude increases with levels, its hopeful that even some of the power pools with one or two heals like Controllers and non-empath defenders will continue to be viable healers throughout the game. That would be an ideal situation, because even those of us who plan on being Defender Empaths don't want every group to NEED a defender empath just to survive at high levels.. (Like Clerics in EQ)
Oh, and of course, everyone can get Medicine from the power pool, but since those can be interrupted by enemies, I'm betting they won't be effective mid-combat heals.
Re: Any good COH sites?
If you guys are so interested in CoH, why haven't you pre-ordered the game? Pre-ordering guarantees you a spot in beta along with many other perks. If nothing else, it'll give you an opportunity to try the different classes and abilities before launch. Some places will charge $10 for pre-ordering some won't charge a penny. Both my fiance and I have pre-ordered through EB online and we haven't been charged a penny yet.
Although if you do plan on pre-ordering, I suggest you check this out before you do. Different vendors have different ability effects.
No, I'm not trying to hock the pre-order, but it just seems like such a great opportunity to preview the game if you're truly interested.
Alternatively, according to the CoH site, they're also offering public beta soon.
Re: Any good COH sites?
You read the forums over there lately? I pre-ordered and registered on those forums ages ago and I got shafted, so did hundreds of other ppl.
Quote:Thurs 4_1, Pre-Order Invite Update
Hi everyone.
I know it's April Fool's but this update is no joke -- after all, getting you Pre-order folks into the game is no a laughing matter (I'm sure you'd all agree with that!).
Here's the latest up-to-the-minute information. We are currently in the process of bringing more beta servers online, but need to wait until that has been achieved (and everything is working properly) before sending more out.
Right now, the estimation is that we'll either be sending out the next batch of invites late tonight or tomorrow morning. I'll let you know which way it's leaning as soon as I am made aware.
That's it for now -- I'll hopefully be talking to you again soon, so watch this thread!
Please keep ALL comments, questions and complaints about invites going out confined to THIS THREAD ONLY. Posts made outside this thread pertaining to not getting in with the Pre-order, asking when more invites will get sent out, etc, will be REMOVED.
REMINDER: Once in beta, any problems or issues you are having need to be directed to support@coh.com and NOT posted on the public message board. Posting on the public board about beta-related issues may get you removed from the message boards AND the beta test for NDA violations.
Thanks all,
-Aura
You'd still have several weeks of play before the general public.
