Are the 20th Century releases 'good' ?
I've seen a few HK films (City Hunter, Magnificent Warriors and more) released by 20th Century in Canada.

Anyone know if they are respecting the originals or being altered ?

I will buy a few to show Disney that is how films should be treated but not if they are subjecting them to the same treatment.

Any comments appreciated.

I believe that Naked Killer was trimmed for an "R" rating, but the other four (Magnificent Butcher, Magnificent Warriors, City Hunter, and Hong Kong 1941) are intact to the best of my knowledge. The censorship of Naked Killer is annoying in general principle, but no great loss to me personally since I despise the movie, intact or not.

City Hunter = 7 minutes cut
Magnificent Butcher = 5 minutes cut

Magnificent Warrior and Hong Kong 1941 both have running times listed the same as the HK dvd releases but that does not necessarily mean they are uncut. there may be only 5 or 10 seconds cut.

I saw three different versions of City Hunter, and don't remember anything cut.

Yeah, like Numskull said
with the exception of Naked Killer, all of FOX's releases are uncut.

A list of running times on their upcoming DVD's reveled the running times as being exactly what they should be based on NTSC.

So it looks like Naked Killer was an isolated incident most likely due to avoid an "R" rating.

Re: Yeah, like Numskull said
I think Gil probably meant to say "to avoid an NC-17 rating" or "to get an R rating", but the gist of his statement remains true. A PG-13 NAKED KILLER... I don't think that would even be long enough to qualify as a feature film.

Re: Heym thanks for the heads up Monk
I wouldn't assume that Fox has cut Naked Killer for a rating. I think they are just distributing these titles for Fortune Star over here. All the production seems to happen at Fortune Star. When I had a question about the transfers, I had to write to Fortune Star and they answered my questions. They are the ones who restored the prints.

I can't explain why Naked Killer was cut but I will try to find out. I found an e-mail address for Fortune Star and I now have a contact over at Fox.

magnificent butcher - alternate?
Hi, has anyone noticed that on the Fox DVD, in the film synopsis, it says that Sammo's character agrees to be arrested, but in the film, I think, that doesn't happen. Is that just a small error, or is there another version?

Re: Are the 20th Century releases 'good' ?
Naked Killer is the original international cut, and wasn't cut by Fox. The cut that most fans are familiar with is the extended home video version that added a lot of the stuff the movie is infamous for.
