Arriving in Buffalo
With one last, mournful wail, the train pulled into the busy station, slowly squealing to a halt. Doors opened all along the train as the road-weary passengers began to depart, some of them taking in the sights with wide-eyed enthusiasm, others greeting the hustle-and-bustle with indifference. Train stations were beautiful places, the tearful goodbyes, and the loving hellos. So much possibilty lay within one little area.

Amidst all of this emerged a dark-skinned young man in a crisp white suit. Disdainfully he flicked a piece of lint off his shoulder, then debarked onto the platform, pulling his wheeled luggage behind him. Though it was barely perceptable, he managed to make his way through the crowd without actually coming into physical contact with anyone.

A few people rushing in the opposite direction made as if to bump into him, but one glance from his frigid brown eyes made them pick different routes. He allowed himself a self-satisfied sneer before wending his way towards the exit of the station.

Drewe had almost escaped when a clumsy oaf tripped, spilling coffee on his new Italian leather shoes. With a snarl of rage he whirled on the poor sap, swiping at him with a barely closed fist.

"Watch where you're going, you idiot! These shoes are worth more than your useless life!"

Re: Arriving in Buffalo
The day was young, the sun illutminated as bright as ever in the sky above, people moving within the trainstation - saying their hello's when greeting and sobbing their goodbye's when parting. Another to step from the train, was Akai. Arrival back from where he had departed to in such a rush a few months ago. But there was no one to say hello or goodbye to him, he was alone and traveled with no luggage.

A crisp wind ripped through the platform, whipping and lifting up various things - one of the which being the naracisstic hair, black tendrils highlighted with crimson streaks. His hair was a mask, it hid true emotions, half consealing real intentions and reactions to most everything. A simple black dress shirt, with the pants to match, high in class and fit to the cut of his form accodated his every motion once he started walking.

The crowd didn't give much way him, with those ice cold blue eyes fixated on the ground, being bumped into almost every other person. Amoungst the noise, hustle and bustle, something happened to catch his attention, the exclamation of a person who very displeased to say the least.

Maybe in lower state New York, or on the island of Manhattan - the interaction might have been ignore, but this was not state New York. Some people gasp, taken aback, Akai simply raised his head. To think that one would sully his hands on such a person, let rage take over him for such an innocent mistake, a costly one, but innocent nonetheless.

The approach was calculated, as soon as the victum of the hit reared back, Akai spoke up - standing at the edge of small gathering of people bold enough to gawk in disbelief at the audacity of seemingly rich prick.

"And who are you, to place the value on another's man life?" Stepping forward to separate himself from the rest of the crowd, the right hand flexed, tensed, snapped taut - while the other rested idly within the confines of his pocket.

Re: Arriving in Buffalo

~And who are you, to place the value on another's man life?~

A well-groomed eyebrow shot to Drewe's perfectly maintained hairline as some person dared interfere with his righteous indignation. Slowly he turned to face the newcomer, taking careful stock of the young boy's well-groomed apparel. Despite the excessively long hair, reminiscent of poorly maintained J-Rock bands, he seemed presentable.

As such the angry man lowered his hand, completely dismissing the unfortunate moment from his mind as he focused on the much more amusing possibilities before him. The little one was physically fit, and was obviously aware of good quality vestments. Perhaps he could foster a sense of comraderie. After all, Drewe was here without a group of supporters, which was not his normal modus operandi.

A strong, well-manicured hand was offered to the newcomer. The former drug-dealer was unsure as to whether or not the overture would be accepted, but he played up on that, a challenging light in his eyes. What young man could resist that? Besides, if the boy had no manners, he wouldn't really be interested in associating with him at all. Though his preferences may run to the obscene in private, he was usual very distinguished in public places.

"I suppose then, young fellow, that you feel yourself to be a better judge?" Drewe paused, then tutted, as if chastising himself, "No, you are correct. Apparently I have allowed my temper to run away with my tongue." He turned back to the nervous man with the coffee. "I apologize for my unfortunate lack of restraint, please, continue on your way."

The African-American boy turned back to his fellow traveller, curiousity overcoming any of his other natural impulses. Gesturing towards the little coffee shop he smiled in a slightly less-than-pleasant immitation of friendliness.

"Perhaps I can purchase for you a coffee while you remind me of my manners?"

Re: Arriving in Buffalo
Akai's attention was half focused on Drewe and the other, somewhere off into the distance - one might guess it would be on the poor man who was on the receiving of Drewe's temper tantrum, but then one just might be wrong. It was only when Drewe spoke directly him that he really paid attention.

The gaze from those orbs, such a weighty thing, like the glaciers of the frozen north it's was relentless never backed down, its goal was to only go forward. Being a product was his child enviroment, he cold be nature, from the blank expressionless unnerving staring to the icle dagger of a voice that pierced the ear drums.

Hesitation, it was something that suited him, it was apart of his style. Eyes lowered down to look upon the offered hand, waiting, waiting until the last possible moment when the other young man's offer was reaching it's end, that is when Akai's hand extended out. Bandaged finger tips go up beyond the wrist and sleeve, and who knows how far pass what the shirt hides. His grip was like steel, vice wasn't a word stong enough to apply to just how much force was being applied, but that was only an instant, before that hand was resting at Akai's side again.

"I know my standing in society, that is enough for me. . .and to make such comments, to let one's temper show in the public eye, it belittles the society I come from." No, Akai didn't judge, because all the judgements were made, people already classified. He didn't let the lessers see his anger, its what they want. To gawk at the rich, watch them as though they were zoo animals on display, and that was what Drewe had accomplished, brought an unwelcomed eye upon them.

"I don't drink coffee" Hesistation, he paused.

Beat.

"But something to drink, perhaps a smoothie, isn't a bad idea." Coffee shops were becoming more versitile, offereing not only coffee and cappucino of the frozen and hot varieties, but branching out to the fruity beverages as well. Turning on heel, the gesture towards the little coffee shop was followed.

Re: Arriving in Buffalo

Drewe was beginning to get the impression that the boy was hopped up on some kind of drug, which would suit him fine. Always one to look for weaknesses to exploit, he tucked that possibility under his hat for a later date. The tall young man knew that if you could pop, inhale or inject it, he would have ways of getting hold of it soon enough. What an excellent way to tie others in service of you, exploiting their human weaknesses.

A cold gaze affected him little, having been accused of similar iciness from his own stare. That point aside, we perceive things however we desire, and Drewe chose to write off the prolonged showdown as a drugged-up inability to process whether or not he was actually there. For all the older boy knew, this kid might not even be seeing him at all.

Still, the brown-haired fellow was about to retract his hand, when the other person finally accepted it. The thought of what the bandage might cover disgusted Drewe, but he quelled the sneer that tried to sneak up on him. He had to be in complete control of himself at all times. The strong gripped approach was one that he had come across multiple times, but the former drug-dealer was well beyond the need for that kind of macho posturing. He let his hand hang limp within the other boy's grip. After all, that was one of the way's one could get a feel for the other person, and it was best to play your cards close to your breast this early in the game.

~I know my standing in society, that is enough for me. . .and to make such comments, to let one's temper show in the public eye, it belittles the society I come from.~

"Well, that speaks highly of your self control, sir. Myself, I have always lived by my emotions, survived off them in fact. I tend not to quell them for the sensabilities of the common ground pounder."

Perhaps a little of his disdain broke through there, but he was used to seeing humanity at its worst. In the bowels of his drug den he had watched a "loving husband" sell his wife's favours for another hit of cheap ecstacy, and the things he had witnessed in prison. No, he was not like the people who walked about all around the pair.

~I don't drink coffee... But something to drink, perhaps a smoothie, isn't a bad idea.~

Drewe smiled. The fellow had a sense of humour, that was acceptable, for now. He'd allow the boy to get away with things like this during the preliminary stages, but if he was going to work for Drewe in the future, he would learn some respect. They threaded their way through the crowd without further incident, finally making it to the upscale little coffee joint.

As so many of these places nowadays, Java Stop had a largely beatnik clientele. Again avoiding physical contact with any of the great unwashed, Drewe picked a table near the back of the cafe, well out of the path of anyone else. A bedraggled, harried-looking blonde came up and leaned on their table, dropping a couple of menus.

*Anythin' t' drink, fellas? Or d'ya need t' look at th' menu a bit first?*

She might of been pretty once, but years in a high stress, low-paying job left her looking weary and used up. There were large, dark bags under her pale blue eyes, and her pale skin wasn't touched with even a bit of colour. Still, she had a slim waist, and high, firm breasts. Drewe tutted at her, putting on a most congenial smile.

"I wouldn't mind a double shot hazelnut espresso, sprinkled with cinnamon, dear girl. I'm not sure what my companion would like though."

Re: Arriving in Buffalo
Either of them really didn't know exactly who they were dealing with, the motives behind which drive them to behave the way that do. The grip in which Akai placed on Drewe wasn't him showing off, it just that he possed a strength far superior to that of common place, such as Drewe himself.

"Yagami, Akai. . ." Spoken first is the name of his family, the young japanse boy always gave respect to his adoptive family first before speaking his given name. If they were sharing a drink, name exchange only seemed natural at this point. Eyes scanning the upper menu as other boy made his order.

"Triple passion berry rush. . ."

With the inclination of his head the cold gaze met with the form of Drewe again, watching him through the curtian of his hair. So arisotcratic he seemed, reminding Akai of the noble of the Kusunagi clan, short tempered and prone to violence. The glassy look in his eyes showed that thoughts were far and distant from this time and space.

"And you are. . .?"

It was strange, Akai doing a meet a greet. These are the type of situations he tends to avoid, but because of circumstances beyond his reasoning, here he was. Reaching into his back pocket, he pulled out his card, plastic - yes, it was the currency of the modern world, why deal with the hassle of money when one card takes care of it all. When the drinks were brougth forward they were paid for accordingly. Grabbing himself only a straw, he made way for a table -- there was still time to be wasted before he had other, more interesting things to do - so for now, he would commune with a lesser.

Re: Arriving in Buffalo

~Yagami, Akai. . .~

This was good, it was always better to allow the applicant to introduce themself first. In Drewe's world giving your name was giving ground, and he preferred to keep the upper hand as long as possible. After all, he had to be in charge here. Him and no one else. That was how he had survived so long, that was why he managed to regroup so quickly after that bitch sent him to prison.

~Triple passion berry rush. . .~

Still, the boy's order reminded Drewe of how young the lad was. It would be hard if 15-year-olds would be all he could muster. Whatever, one worked with what one could get. No need to bemoan the 'good old days' when he had some rough and tumble lads, and some carefully groomed adults under his heel. Time enough for empire-building.

Still, the hollow-eyed, unrelenting stare was beginning to annoy Drewe. He was sure that the Asian lad felt that he could disconcert people with that whole 'I'm a drugged-out freak' look, but not him. Oh no, the former drug-dealer was well versed in the ways of the strong, and he showed no indication that he had even noticed.

~And you are. . .?~

Well, there you go. The Yagami boy had shown enough manners to inquire after his own name. Taking quick stock of the situation, he understood how much of the interchange was being weighed and judged - which was all of it, of course. He let a reasonable pause go by before he answered.

"I'm Drewe Hammel, pleased to meet you, Akai."

He was certain that the black-haired little freak was trying to catch him up on that one. Still, anyone who had run an opium den with any measure of success knew that the crazy Orientals put last name first. As if violent drug-addicts had any honour at all. Not likely.

The waitress came back with their beverages, and though the younger lad paid with plastic, Drewe preferred to carry cash. You couldn't be traced that way. He handed the tired woman a $20 bill, smiling congenially.

"Keep the change, darling."

Then he turned his attention back to the strange fellow in front of him. Not many highschoolers carried plastic. Putting one fact next to another, he grinned. He had his next question all laid out nicely.

"So, Akai, you seem a rather unique individual. Would I be amiss if I guessed you attended the rather remarkable highschool here in town?"

Re: Arriving in Buffalo
As he announced his named, Akai was taking a seat - a quick motion of his and indicated that Drewe could sit at his own leisure, or stand, makes no difference to Akai one way or the other cause he was lost for a moment within the europhic rush of flavor from the smoothie.

Drewe. . .making a mental note of the name of was a bit of a task as he was preoccupied with the drink, but he made on outsigns evident of his this enternal struggle that proceeded within the confines of the inner workings inside the mind.

"I am unique--" There was a pause, Akai's attitude turned from distant to serious, grave. That piercing gaze lifted up to Mr. Hammel when he spoke this remarkable highschool, Akai rarely liked to talk about such things with his close friend, and never talked about it strangers. "--but you would be amiss. . ."

Leaning back in the chair, the drink was placed down on the table, fingers run against the grain of the wood drawing the hand back within close proximity of the chiseled body. "I have heard of such of place. . .But I am here for other reasons--" Turning his eyes away from Drewe to where all he could see is the mask of hair, hiding all emotion, detaching himself completely. "--my mother is here on business as she asked me to come up from Manhattan and join her."

Re: Arriving in Buffalo

Drewe seated himself with relative ease, accepting his coffee as it was brought to the table for him. No need to carry about anything as dangerous as heated liquids. He took a long slow sip, enjoying the slightly sweet flavour of his own favourite concoction, before returning his attention to his companion.

~I am unique--
--but you would be amiss. . .~

So that was the way the boy was going to play it. Fair enough, everything was up to one's own discretion after all. Still, Hammel was fairly certain that the boy wasn't being completely honest. After all, Akai seemed more than aware of the school which he was referring to, and it certainly wasn't a well-known place.

~I have heard of such of place. . .But I am here for other reasons--
--my mother is here on business as she asked me to come up from Manhattan and join her.~

Two could play the shady, sliding game that the younger lad seemed intent on partaking of, so Drewe flashed him another set of pearlies, savouring the moment as he worked out where the conversation should lead in his head. This shouldn't be too hard to manipulate.

"That's unfortunate. I was hoping perhaps I would not be the only one heading to the school today, it would have been nice to have a companion during the trip, but no worries. After all, I'm a big lad, and I can take care of myself."

A lone fly buzzed over and landed on the table. Barely aware of his actions, Drewe used his enhanced agility to snap the fly up in his hands. Idly examining it, he pulled the wings off the little bug before dropping it again. The mutilated insect wandered across the table, obviously disoriented.

Re: Arriving in Buffalo
That was the game indeed, Akai simply didn't go about spilling secrets that need not be spilled no matter how discrete one might appear to be, there was always prying ears and eyes around in places like these.

Dishonest eyes recognize acts of the kin, hidden intentions lie behind a mask, consealment ever present to unsuspecting, but Akai was always one of those who were suspecting something, searching out the hidden intent.

Enter the lone fly, the quick beat of his wings escapes most eyes, until it landed upon the table. Then Drewe with hs under played amazing display of speed caught Akai's real attention, cast out everything before that moment - It was the movement of this "lad" that really caught, but even still to Akai's eyes it was sluggish - just as the fly's movements, his perception far exceeded that of those in surroundings.

". . .quite the feat, snatching the fly. Such reflexes--" There was a pause, befitting to Akai, it was what he did. Let words linger, hang in the air for a moment and as just the moment seems it is going to pass. "-- a rarity indeed." Shifting his body weight inside of his seat was done with ease, muscles moving in a beautiful synphony of motion hidden only by the cover of clothing (such necessity of the civil world).

"Impressive. . ." Hardly.

"With such skill I can tell you are quite capable of fending off the coffee spillers world wide. . ." Again, his attention drifted to his drink, reminding himself once again of the eurphoic rush of a flavor.

Damn, the boy left so many holes in his speech he'd give swiss cheese a run for its money. Still, Drewe hadn't quite decided whether it was a deliberate attempt to irritate him, a lack of comprehension in regards to the language, or if the guy was mentally slow.

Ahh well, whatever it was, the older lad was still curious about his Asian counterpart. For the most part he hadn't much experience with the finer points of the culture, and the close-mouthed boy sitting across from him wasn't helping with the whole enlightenment issue. Masking his disgruntlement with another sip from his espresso, he looked the fellow up and down again, weighing the next words from the boy's mouth.

~Impressive. . . With such skill I can tell you are quite capable of fending off the coffee spillers world wide. . .~

Ahh, a note of sarcasm, and that annoying condemnation in reference to Drewe's, admittably unfortunate, burst of temper. He didn't like being chastised, however mildly, by his lessers. Which was, of course, everyone else.

"Ahh, I see. If I had been paying the least bit of attention, yes I could have forestalled the unfortunate disaster. Sadly, my mind was preoccupied on some... business that I have to take care of at the local highschool, and I was not focused."

Business, everyone seemed to be focused on that part of their when they reach a certain age, that's all life really boiled down to in the end, attending to business. His mother was here on business and he would be joining today, or atleast that is what he leaning towards when speaking to Drewe, never reveal thy true purpose unless needed.

"Are you a new transfer student?"

A raised brow followed the question posed, the body moved to sit up straigth in the chair as eyes glanced down to table to see the half finished drink, watching the mositure build up around from the process of condensation, slip, slide, the droplet falls down the wooden surface - slight splash reverts Akai's attention back towards the young African-American male.

". . .or is this more of a private matter?"

Oh look, a phrase without a dramatic pause, what a rarity in their conversation. Drewe almost laughed out loud as the boy seemingly dropped character to express some curiousity. Though the young Asian fidgeted, he seemed to finally be focusing on the conversation at hand, rather than drifting off into his own little world. About to speak, he noticed that Akai was not, in fact, finished.

~. . .or is this more of a private matter?~

Le sigh. Perhaps this fellow would be too tiresome to actual pursue something more interesting with. A pity, since he looked tough, and easily led. Still, sometimes there was nothing more you could do but just accept things the way they were. Besides, there were worse ways to pass the time.

"A little bit of both, my friend. I was . . . encouraged to attend the school. Apparently some of my more interesting natures need reigning in a bit, and I will learn how here. As for the other, I have a very personal mission to accomplish before the week is out. A matter of great urgency. You see, I lost something of mine, and I am quite intent upon retrieving it."
