Assassin TLs - New Truesight and the Assassin Design Intent
With the proposed new TS change, I would ask all 3 of you to get some Mythic feedback on what their new stance on the stealth wars is and more specifically what role the Assassin classes are now intended to fill.
It was my understanding that assassin characters were supposed to be solo creatures, which is why they have no group-friendly skills. With the TS change, assassins will be forced more and more into a grouping situation. Has this changed? If so, what will assassins get that a group would want?
For 2+ years, the assassin was supposed to be the counter to the archer. Is the intention to reverse the roles?
I would simply like to hear what the new dynamic of the stealth classes is supposed to be.

A good question. There was a ballance between archers and assassins, in that an archer had easier time attacking solo or duo(even grouped when distracted) non-stealth targets than the assassin, but suffered a penalty when facing an enemy assassin.
The assassin had harder time attacking non-stealths(has to put himself into the harm's way), but was given an ability to keep the archers in check.
If this new TS goes live, archers suddenly have the best of both worlds, which will lead to an explosion in archer population. Soon, the archers will discover that the only true threat to them comes from other archers which have TS at higher level, which will lead to the TS3 quickly being considered 'mandatory' in the archer-world, driving the final nail into the coffin of whatever assassins still remain on the field.
Thank you for playing Dark age of Camelot. Have a nice day.

This passive status will not survive testing, it will go back to being on a timer for the exact reasons Sharee pointed out. It would be a "manditory" ability and that goes against the design document. If it is an active ability, it's utility is still high, but not manditory if you don't see yourself as an assassin killer.
The new three tier abilities are enormously expensive... 30 pts That means that you will be RR 4 and have nothing but one jacked up ability.

Re: Assassin TLs - New Truesight and the Assassin Design Int
How about this:
Each master level in the spymaster line reduces any stealth-piercing effects by cumulative 10%, and gives a 100 /loc units-per-level stealth-piercing ability to the spymaster working on all stealth targets except assassins?
Hey, one can dream, no? Edited by: ShareeFromTristan at: 3/27/04 12:17 am

^^^^
Kinda screws anyone who went battlemaster (or stormlord for NSes) because I doubt Mythic will offer a respec.
Re: Assassin TLs - New Truesight and the Assassin Design Int
That's true, however battlemaster is more of a group-oriented path. PBAOE style effects, powerdrain, bodyguard, faultfinder, grapple... all of little use while solo.
So one who chose it probably will be in a group and not suffering from archers as much.

Maybe so, but I know of a good number of Infs on Perc (my home server) who went battlemaster and they solo or duo most of the time.
Edit: You also then would require ToA and PvE to stay at the same level as someone in the original game content. Not cool. Not that many of the things ToA were that great either.

Vanish is the counter to TS.

That's a good argument, and I actually agree with TS now if that is their intention. The only problem I see is: Passive vs. 15min timer.
That doesn't make me happy

Here's something viable for the assassin design. How about making this the ambush class? (New idea here, huh? ) But give Hibernia and Midgard a stealth support class and then you'll see the Stealth Wars disappate and move into "normal" RvR.

Yes, and they currently have black boxes next to their name on the Herald.

Any version of passive TS is wrong and should not be in game. SH was wrong and so is a passive TS.
I didnt pick up SH because I thought it was lame and I sent feedback to mythic advocating the removal of SH. Passive TS is more of the same.
Mythic needs to find a creative way to balance the classes w/out destroying others. Any version of this lacks creativity and a thoughtful attempt at that balance. It is a slap in the face and an abuse of the customer base.

Quote:vanish is not the counter to ts. one is up all the time, one is usable every 15 min and still might put you within range of the same archer.
It is the only feasible option/counter in the RA's current state...period. That's the problem.

Except that this would give people who bought ToA another signficant advantage over people who didn't, and Mythic's already trying to get away from the perception that you have to buy ToA to compete.
