At last; Raider!
Raider Prolouge

Dusk fell over the Isle of Kastaliana, one of the islands of the world of Redaer. Probably the darkest, but also the most united one of all. The ravens, falcons and hawks were flying down through their hollow trees and settling in for the night.

Rain began to fall as the sun sank behind the western mountains. A shrill cry rang through the air. This was only the cry of one;

Raider! The falcon spy/messenger of the HawkLord Vortex had at last returned! He flew swiftly towards the foretress of Mage in the middle of the island and perched on a high point on the west tower. Three bats, all wearing yellow hard hats that covered their eyes emerged from beneath the tower.

One held up his lantern. "Whoooooooo are yooooooooou, whaaat are yoooooooooou dooooing here, and whoooooo are yooooooou here tooooooo seeeeee?"

Raider laughed. "Ah! Scoot, Sam and Phylo! How could I ever forget you? Well, I'm here to see the HawkLord Vortex, my business is my own, and, you may know me as Raider of the-"

"Raaaaaaaider! Hellooooooooo Raaaaaaaaaaider!" said Scoot, "Wanna gooooooo intoooooo the foretressssssss?"

"That's really the whole reason why I'm here."

"Suuuuuuuure thing, siiiiiiir!'' said Phylo. The three bats slammed into a button on the side of the tower and opened the gate.

"Thank you, kindly!" called Raider, flying into the foretress.

Raider stood in the main room of the foretress, where the HawkLord was sleeping in his throne. "Milord, I have returned."

The HawkLord, although startled by the awakening stood up on the back of his throne and lit the wall sconces. "Raider! You've returned! Why, I didn't expect you back for another week! Tell me everyting!"

"Milord, I confess-"

"Yes? What is it?"

"I saw nothing."

"NOTHING?!?!?!?!?! HONESTLY, RAIDER! YOU HAVE NEVER ONCE MARCHED IN HERE AND SAID YOU SAW NOTHING?!?!?!?"

"But sir, the Psygallians are up to something! No one was walking around. There were no jets flying around. I only saw the same hare every day."

"Did you happen to get his name?"

"No, sir."

"Then they ARE up to something. Come back tomorrow, Raider. I have someone I would like you to meet."

"Thank you, sir." Raider turned, spread his wings and flew off.

Chapter One

It was common for the PreyBirds of the island to live inside hollow trees. The only thing about Raider's tree that was strange was that it was an oak tree, which could only shelter the HawkLord's chosen Birds.

Raider perched on the longest branch, and scanned the area. Nothing had changed. He sat back and relaxed, still alert. A shrill cry suddenly filled the air. Raider hopped to the highest point of the tree and called out; "If you have come out of the respect of the HawkLord, show yourself!"

A young hawk, about Raider's age, emerged from the foliage and perched on the branch next to him. "Raider! I thought you had-"

Raider laughed. "You're becoming more like your father everyday, Wraith."

Wraith nodded. "It's a proper HawkFashion, you see. I too will be a HawkLord someday, when my father passes. And he eventually will."

"Don't worry. It won't be anytime soon. You're father is very active, even for his age."

"No, Raider. You don't know him as I do. He's been growing old, and slightly more weary daily."

"Weary? NONSENSE! You're father's in fine fettle for his age."

"Hmm? No, no; he seems well, but he's honestly....he's been......"

"Not well? I'm very sorry to hear that, Wraith."

"It happens to us all, at one point. We cannot stop the flow of time, nor can we undo what has been done."

"Mmm...Very true, Wraith. Alas, night is upon us yet again. Shouldn't you be back at the foretress?"

Wraith nodded. "I should. Thank you, Raider." He departed from the perch and flew towards the foretress.

Raider watched until his friend vanished from sight. Then he flew in a spiral motion down through his tree.
