Basic Overview: by Deathmime
Listed below are my beliefs on who and what we are. Listed below are "the facts" as I know them to be from personal experience and experimentation. As well as added input from other vampires whom I'm associated with.
THE BASICS: Vampires in real life do not have many of
the attributes we are credited (accused?) of
possessing in fiction.
We are not undead, we do not have retractable fangs,
we do not heal instantaneously. Although, we generally
heal a little quicker and have stronger immune
systems.
We are not immortal. Although, we generally age a
little slower and are often mistaken for being 5-10
years younger than we are. Most of us where probably
also "Late Bloomers" (delayed onset of puberty).
We do not possess extreme supernatural powers.
However, we all have slightly increased potential and
a degree of natural apptitude for psychic and mystic
abilities over so called "Normal" humans.
At this time I would like to state that I despise the
words "normal" and "wierd", and technically we are all
human. Therefore in my terminology I refer to Humans
as "Homo Sapiens" and Vampires as "Homo
Sanguinarians".
Back to the issue at hand, we also possess increased
and hieghtend preditorial instincts and may even have
slightly hieghtened senses. Many of us where probably
branded as "hyperactive" or having "violent"
tendencies. WE ARE PREDETORS! But only slightly more
so than Homo Sapiens.
Blood: Do we drink blood? Yes and no we consume the
life force energy of other beings to my knowledge
there are three ways we can do this: Blood drinking,
Sexual activity, Psychic vampirism. It is interesting
to note that once removed from the host blood loses
it's energy quickly. Therefore, keeping plasma bags in
your fidge will do you NO good whatsoever as the
energy in the blood disapates within minutes. We can
also feed off the life force of a creature as it dies
taking it's entire essence into us. Vampires who feed
this way are usually the worst kind of scum...killing
is NOT necissary unless to defend yourself. Vampire's
who partake in this act are called "Snatchers" in my
terminoligy.
Sunlight: Most vampires, my self included dislike
being in direct sunlight for any period of time. No we
do not burn or liquify merely to many of us it feels
odd or unnatural. Some of us like myself have a slight
U.V. allergy. After 15 minutes in direct sunlight I
begin breaking out in hives and display symptoms
similar to Roseasa. After roughly 35 minutes I will
sunburn, after an hour or so I will have a critical
sunburn (the one where you are red as a lobster and
nauseas and dizzy). Although other than discomfort,
nausea, sunburn, hives, sunstroke etc. sunlight does
not harm me and WILL NOT KILL ME.
Garlic: Hmmm... waiter, I'll have the white wine with
my spaghetti and garlic bread, thank you.
Stake through the heart: If I rammed a foiegn ogject
into anything's heart it would die!
Churches and crosses: Some vampires are christian
Where we come from (the scientific angle): I believe
vampirism to be a recessive gene trait. My research
indicates if someone is a vampire one of there other
family members is or was rumored to be. My research
further indicates a less than 5% chance of someone
with the gene in there family of actually being born a
vampire. Also have you never noticed you can tell if
someone else is a vampire? You look at them and you
just "know" thier "like you". I determined we have a
psychic ability that let's us sense when another of
our kind is near (with in 10ft generally from my
experience and experimintation). I refer to this on my
terminology as our "Radar".
I further believe we are the next evolutionary step
(or at least a prototype) of humanity. Think about it.
We are generally: smarter, better looking, stronger,
faster, and more resilient than we appear (although
NOT to a "supernatural" level), more charismatic,
ambitious, and lest not forget our increased apptitude
and potential for psychic ability and mystic arts. How
many times have people said to you "I don't know
there's just something about you.", "You have this
wierd magnetism about you.", "Something about you
makes me nervous", or "When you get mad you really
scare the @#%$ out of me." Many would argue that it's
been over 5000 years since vampires where first
"discovered". Well, the number of vampires born
steadily increases each year, and Sapiens didn't
replace Neanderathals over night.
Can Sapiens be truned into vampires?: Yes and
no...Homo Sapiens can never become Homo Sanguinarians.
However they can become Homo Sanguinarian Secundus, or
"Secondary Vampires". All a secondary Vampire is, is a
Homo Sapien who either developed an addiction too or
get's off on feeding off others energy.Or they could
be into fetish "blood-letting" I begrudgingly accept
them as vampires because they do feed off of Sapiens
but they do not have any of our "characteristics". In
my experience no secondary vampire has ever set off my
"Radar".
Where we come from (the religious angle): Frankly I do
not know...I have my own relgious beleifs about gods,
and afterlife and to me each vampire must find there
own way in the grand scheme of the cosmos. But I will
say this. If you believe that the god you worship
would be angry at you for what you do, ask yourself
this question: Is god angry at the lion for eating the
gazelle? I in no way wish to make light of the plight
of vampires who are cught in this moral dilema..but
you where made this way. If your god din't want you to
do these things then why would he/she/it have made you
the way you are?
