It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.

Full Name: Effie Sheridan Nickname(s): Ef DOB: January 12, 1992 Year: Sixth Year Blood: Half blood
House Preference: Slytherin Why: Though it is sometimes hard to see it at first glance, the only place for Effie is Slytherin. She certainly wasn’t a candidate for Hufflepuff because at the end of the day, the only person she is loyal to as herself. There also wasn’t a strong case for Ravenclaw, because even though Effie enjoys some of her classes well enough and gets good marks, she gets those marks because of her competitive streak and her ambition – not her thirst for knowledge. That leaves Slytherin and Gryffindor. The hat decided on Slytherin based on Effie’s general disregard for rules, her occasional lust for revenge, her love of competition, her ambitious nature, and her devil-may-care attitude when it comes to how other people perceive her. She is also not inherently brave, a trademark Gryffindor trait. She can be adventurous, but this cannot be mistaken for true bravery as she only acts this way for her own benefit and convenience. When she is given an unselfish reason to act brave, she never would. Most of her bravery comes from the lengths she will go to get what she wants, whether it’s the dangerous Quidditch maneuver she wants to learn to get a leg up on the competition or deciding to go on expedition after hours because she wants to look at a book in the Restricted Section of the library.
Physical Appearance:
Effie is by no means a perfect beauty, though she’d look a lot better if she actually cared about her appearance more than she does. The first thing that you notice about Effie is her heart-shaped face. When she smiles, it seems that her whole face lights up. Her wide and eager smile reveals white, fairly even teeth. Looking at other facial features, her nose is fairly non-descript, though some critics might say that it has somewhat larger than usual knob on the end of it. Her ears are fairly small and really of no consequence. Effie’s eyes, rather medium sized and equally spaced, are framed by long dark-brown lashes. Her eyes are also hazel and usually shining with enthusiasm.
Effie’s hair is probably her next most remarkable feature. This feature has been the bane of her existence for years and she has now admitted that trying to tame it is a battle she will never win. Her chestnut brown curls reach past her shoulders and more than a third of the way down her back. Though when she was younger, her “Shirley Temple” curls were labeled “cute”, but Effie finds them more of an annoyance now than anything else. For one, combing curls is never a good idea and Effie hates constantly styling her hair with various products to get rid of frizz, as she can think of many more interesting things that she could be doing with her time. Therefore, her easy solution is to pull back her hair into a ponytail, a bun, or when she is feeling somewhat childish, pigtails. However, as much trouble as her hair is, Effie would never cut it as she does see it as a part of her, albeit a difficult part.
One thing to note about Effie is that she is always moving, moving, moving and she never stops, except when she’s asleep. She’s always tapping her foot, twirling one of her curls absently between her fingers, or clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth to some sort of rhythm. She’s an athlete and so she is somewhat agile, though this is often overshadowed by Effie’s inherent clumsiness. Quidditch isn’t really a sport that makes use of pure physical strength, and so she is not very muscular. Effie stands at 5’6”. She had a rapid growth spurt between the ages of thirteen and fifteen, and she hasn’t grown all that much since. She is extremely fit, mostly because she can’t stand to stay still. However, Effie does love eating and is extremely self-indulgent when it comes to lavish desserts, and so she is not pencil thin either, weighing about 130 pounds. She does not have extremely well defined curves and probably never will, but she has filled out some since she her second and third year.
Effie has a pale complexion, and she burns rather than tans in the sunlight. Her face is sprinkled with pale freckles, though the blemishes that she had to deal with in third and fourth year have now dimished somewhat. Effie often sports bruises and cuts from Quidditch practice and just every day activities, as her tendency to be a klutz earns her these keepsakes from her altercations with the things or people she bumps into. Effie sees no use for makeup and believes it to be a waste of time for people who actually care what other people think. The only time she ever uses it is at the prodding of other people when she is dressing for very elaborate events, and then she has to have someone else do her makeup because she doesn’t have enough practice to do it herself. The place where Effie draws the line is nail polish. She thinks it is one of the most frivolous things on the planet and would never, ever wear it. The same goes for piercings – she things it’s silly for anyone to go through the ordeal of getting them, even if they only hurt for a second, when their sole purpose is to make one look nice.
Her stance on makeup is similar to Effie’s stance on clothes. She hates the uniform as it represents conformity, though she wears it because she doesn’t think it’s an important enough issue to make a fuss about it. When she is allowed to wear her own clothes, Effie likes to be comfortable. She has no qualms about being seen in a pair of ratty, old sweatpants that she’s had since she was thirteen and often does pick sweatpants or worn jeans and a plain t’shirt as her clothing of choice. She loves bright colours and often is seen wearing loud shades like lime green or orange. She doesn’t see the point of wearing revealing clothing to get attention either, and usually dresses fairly casually, but also conservatively.
Personality:
Effie is what one might call a “free spirit” and her motto is, without a doubt, “seize the day”. She is a cheerful person and she loves joking around and laughing. She is energetic and never, ever stops moving. As well, she is enthusiastic and gives 110 percent in every activity she tries. Effie is very adventurous and will try almost anything once, just to see what it’s like. She is a connoisseur of all types of foreign food and she loves getting to know new people. Easily bored, she loves trying different things and anything that will give her a thrill. She sometimes can’t stick with projects for the long-term, though, because of her short attention span. Her love of thrills is one of the reasons why Effie likes Quidditch so much – for her, nothing can match the high that she gets from flying. Her broom is one of the only possessions she really values, as Effie isn’t particularly materialistic.
Effie knows what she wants and what she wants is freedom from as many restraints as possible. She resents authority figures just because they have some control over her life, though she carefully picks her battles when she goes about rebelling against them. Effie is not the type to wear the uniform improperly or arrive late for class – she sees these things as just being unprofessional rather than an actual act of disobedience. However, she is all for sneaking out after hours or coming up with a scheme for publicly embarrassing students or teachers who have ordered her to do things she doesn’t want to do. Effie doesn’t like strict rules, though she has a better knowledge of the rules that affect her life than the average Hogwarts student. Her point of view is that if she knows the rules, then she can break them as effectively as possible without being caught and of course, loopholes are always easier to take advantage of if one actually knows they exist. Effie doesn’t like getting caught in wrongdoing as she generally wants to keep the reputation of being a “good girl”, which is more likely to give her the benefit of the doubt if she is eventually caught.
Effie is non-conformist. In fact, if everyone is doing something, she believes it’s a good reason not to do that particular thing. She often finds trends amusing, but she very rarely follows them. She is independent as well, and though she loves spending time with other people, she isn’t scared to be alone, either. Effie sees the social hierarchy as just another large and intricate set of rules, and thus she doesn’t care very much about it. In general, she doesn’t care much about what other people think of her, and she often bluntly says what’s on her mind, not caring how other people will react to it. Sometimes she hurts people when she does this, and though it’s often unintentional, she never feels like she has to apologize, so she can easily rub people the wrong way. Effie is also not afraid of being embarrassed – a trait that serves her well, as she sometimes says the wrong thing and makes awkward situations worse. As well, she is constantly knocking into things. Though colliding with the Quaffle is often a good thing in Quidditch for the Keeper, colliding with doors, bookshelves, and other people usually is not so well received.
The only time Effie really cares about what other people are doing is in a competitive setting. She loves games and competitions of any sort and she finds them stimulating. She believes in winning and doing everything in her power to do so. She has no qualms about breaking rules to win, but she would stop to think if what she was doing would harm someone else physically or emotionally for the long-term. The fact that she thought about it will not stop her from proceeding, but she will at least looking at all the pros and cons before steamrolling ahead recklessly. This competitive streak also reflects in her schoolwork, as Effie tries very hard to “beat” her classmates in most subjects. Though she’s practically given up in subjects that literally put her to sleep such as History of Magic and Herbology, she is often near the top of her class in many of her other classes, her best being Transfiguration and Charms.
Effie lives by her own code of morals, but in general, she doesn’t see things as black and white, but rather appreciates the shades of grey that she often sees in her every day life. She doesn’t believe that absolute truth exists, just like absolute good or evil. Effie is convinced that everyone sees everything differently because of their own personal prejudices, and though she’ll listen to other people’s points of view, in the end she makes up her own mind about things, sometimes disregarding popular opinion. Her decisions are never set in stone because she always likes to feel like she can change them, but it will often take something fairly significant to do so. Effie has no temper and rarely gets angry, but she does get even. She is vengeful and believes in the “eye for an eye” philosophy, though she would never do anything to anyone who had not already instigated a personal vendetta against her. She often sees revenge as an opportunity to have fun and can come up with rather ingenious schemes to execute her retribution.
Effie is extremely self-centered and this is the key to many of her weaknesses. Setbacks don’t bother her that much, mostly because she overestimates her ability to deal with them. Sometimes this is a negative trait as setbacks often signal something has gone wrong and Effie doesn’t do enough fix the problem until the problem has escalated so far that it has become inescapable. Though she usually has a happy disposition, Effie can be moody as well, and when she is dealing with emotional issues she often pushes her friends away when it is really the time when they could be the most helpful. Effie isn’t very good at understanding other people, most likely because she is so selfish, and she often offends them without meaning to. She makes snap judgments about people, and though she loves being surprised and proven wrong, it takes a lot for someone to do this. She is also extremely self-indulgent and is very annoyed when she cannot do or get what she wants.
Effie’s greatest fear is being imprisoned in a small cell where she isn’t allowed to do or experience anything, go outside, or talk with anybody. One of the worst things a person could do is take her prisoner, because this would cause Effie to lose all hope almost immediately. She will also scream and scream if she’s seen a rat, her phobia stemming from an incident during her childhood when one bit her.
History:
Janet Wallace and Reggie Sheridan came from different worlds. Janet was a muggle woman, was a teacher at the local muggle preschool. Reggie was a young Obliviator who worked at the Ministry of Magic. However, the directions their lives were taking changed dramatically when they met. A magical explosion caused by a witch researching new experimental cures in Janet’s area brought Obliviators to the scene. Reggie was charged with making Janet forget the event had ever happened and though he did do that, he was also entranced with her the first time he saw her. Reggie knew that his parents would never approve of the relationship, as they were stanch purebloods, but nonetheless, a few days later he appeared on Janet’s doorstep with a bunch of flowers. Since Janet didn’t remember him from last time, her initial surprise and misgivings about her supposed “stalker” made for an interesting first date. However, despite their rocky beginnings, Janet and Reggie got engaged.
Reggie finally told Janet his secret about his magical heritage, but this plan backfired, as Janet was so freaked out that she refused to see Reggie ever again. In a moment of pure desperation, Reggie cast yet another memory charm on Janet so that she didn’t remember the incident, and was now forced to choose between his magical life and connections and his fiancée. Reggie chose Janet and without any warning, severed ties with his parents, who had already expressed sentiments of disapproval about the marriage anyway, quit his job, and decided that he would live as a muggle.
Reggie and Janet had only child. She was a girl named Effie and she was born a couple of years after the two were married. Effie was a rather difficult baby with a bit of a Houdini complex. She never liked staying anywhere for a long period of time and most especially hated her crib and playpen. Either she would cry and cry and cry, or if this didn’t get her anywhere, she would stop making all noise and would try to escape. She did escape from her crib numerous times by age two, as she had perfected the art of jumping out of it and onto the soft pillows of a nearby couch, where she would fall asleep after her large “ordeal” of escaping. Effie’s first act of accidental magic happened when she was three. She had been strapped into her high chair for lunch and for a moment her parents had left her alone. When they hurriedly returned after hearing a loud crash in the kitchen, they found the high chair tipped over, but Effie was not crying on the floor, but rather was sitting on the kitchen table looking positively pleased with herself. Reggie began to worry about the possibility that his daughter was a witch, but his fears were assuaged he did not witness any more strange events surrounding his daughter.
By now, Reggie had gotten a job managing a local muggle business, and, when Effie turned four, Janet went back to work and took Effie with her, looking after her as she did the other kids at the preschool. Since she was around her mother all day, Effie became much closer to her than her father, who she only saw at night after he had gotten home from work. From an early age, Effie was exposed to many different people, sights, sounds, and experiences. Though she was an only child, the presence of other children at the preschool positively affected her life, as she became more outgoing and sociable with other people. Effie didn’t like playing usual games for girls her age, such as playing “house” or playing with dolls, but rather she liked “adventure” games where she would pretend to do everything from climbing Mount Everest to fighting fires to hunting for dragons. Meanwhile, she was fairly spoiled at home. As an only child, Effie received almost whatever she wanted from her overindulgent parents. She quickly learned that if she threw a loud enough tantrum, she would receive whatever she desired.
Effie started muggle kindergarten without much incident, though she was one of the more rowdy children in her year, as her love for running around and her disregard for the rules got her into a few scrapes. However, she had strict teachers in muggle primary school and eventually, Effie began to see the importance of obeying some rules when it was in her best interest. During these years, Effie never had a best friend, though she had a large group of friends, many of which she had known since preschool. When she was seven, an acquaintance’s “friendly” pet rat bit Effie while she was visiting, and to this day, she is afraid of the creatures. Effie, always trying to find ways to let out her exuberance, became interested in sports, especially football. She became quite proficient at it by age ten, but she soon lost interest in the sport when she got her Hogwarts letter.
Though some would say that the seeds had already been planted, Effie’s Hogwarts letter literally tore the Sheridan family apart. Janet was horrified that her husband had kept his magical background secret from her for over twelve years when the whole story ended up coming out, and promptly left. Reggie tried in vain to stop her, but because of Effie, he knew he couldn’t put a memory charm on his wife again. As well, he was fed up with all the lying and despite the consequences, he tried to convince himself that what had happened was for the best. Effie was angry at her father for lying to her, but she also became angry with her mother, as her mother wanted to take her away from her father to live with her and ignore the letter completely. The eleven-year-old had no intention of doing that – as much as she resented her father for his deception, she’d put up with him if it meant living something out of one of her “adventures” and using her “magical powers”.
Effie wasn’t particularly concerned about leaving her muggle friends, school and neighbourhood behind. She was too excited about going to Hogwarts. Her father took her to Diagon Alley to get her school supplies and Effie had marvelous time. She ate ice cream at Florean Fortescue’s, picked up all her books and her cauldron, and bought her wand from Ollivanders’. It was willow, 11 ½ inches, extremely flexible, with unicorn tail hair as its core. What was harder was getting through the rest of the summer without her mother. Effie never admitted it, but she did miss her and she blamed her father for driving her away.
Effie embraced her new life from the moment she stepped onto the Hogwarts Express. She was sorted into Slytherin House at the Sorting Feast. Despite the fact that she was not pureblood, after a few months went by she gained at least a grudging respect from most of her housemates because she was quick-witted and game for just about anything. One of her favourite parts of the year was flying lessons and though Effie was one of the clumsiest members of her flying class, she was one of the ones who enjoyed it the most. Despite the fact that she gained many bruises from falling off her broom and she couldn’t do half as many tricks as her friends, Effie was entranced with the idea of flying and was determined to work at it. During her first year, mostly because she was still in awe of everything, Effie was fairly well behaved, at least for her. She only earned one detention for being found out of the Slytherin dorms after hours, and she really didn’t act of out of line all that often as she was still a little cautious of her new surroundings.
After the school year ended, she spent the summer with her father. Effie spent a weekend with her mother that summer, soon after the divorce had been finalized, but though she had been looking forward to doing so for almost a year, the event was anti-climactic, as Janet now saw Effie as “witch” rather than her daughter. This was the last time that Effie saw her mother as after that disastrous visit, which ended with Effie storming off to the bus station to go home in frustration, Effie refused to see her. In second year, Effie was more familiar with the way things worked at Hogwarts and she began to test her boundaries. Effie tried out for the Quidditch team in second year, but she didn’t make it, as she had not had the years and years of practice that many of her peers did. However, Effie became resolved. She would improve. She asked for a broom for Christmas and in the spring, she began to practice religiously in addition to completing all of her classwork. Her grades were better than in first year as she wasn’t coming in knowing nothing and she gained a real interest in some of her subjects, particularly Charms and Transfiguration. Potions was proving to be a challenge, mostly because Effie wasn’t patient enough when she was working with certain ingredients. Being a Slytherin, she passed despite her abysmal results, but she was still not a favourite of the Potions Master, no matter how hard she tried.
The summer after second year was spent partly with Reggie, but mostly, Effie found herself staying with many of her Hogwarts friends as her old neighbourhood was boring and she had lost contact with many of her muggle friends. Janet tried to contact Effie, but Effie would have nothing to do with her. In her third year, Effie had picked Ancient Runes and Muggle Studies as her two electives. For her, Muggle Studies was an easy course as she had been brought up in the muggle world, but Ancient Runes was something that she was interested in and became one of her favourite subjects. Effie’s attempt to gain a position on the Quidditch team was not good enough to earn her the position of Keeper, the one she wanted. However, a few of her friends did make the team and they encouraged her to keep trying, helping her out when they could. By now, Effie was old enough to have gained an interest in boys, and though she sighed after the same seventh year Ravenclaw as many of her friends did, they all knew that they had no chance with him.
That summer, Effie and her father took a trip to Paris where they stayed for a month. Effie would have enjoyed a vacation that involved fewer museums, but she did have a good time. Her rule-breaking side truly began to come out when she entered fourth year. She and her friends began to make routine trips to the kitchens after hours and once, as a joke, toilet-papered the entire Hufflepuff common room. Though some of Effie’s friends did have something against Hufflepuffs, Effie didn’t really – she just thought that it was a good idea at the time, it sounded like fun, and at the end of the day, no one was really hurt. Needless to say, she earned a few more detentions than usual that year and by the end of it, the Slytherin girl realized that if she wanted to keep her reputation as a “good girl” intact, she would have to be more careful. Effie tried out for the Quidditch team once again, but her position, Keeper, was taken and though she tried out for Beater, she wasn’t good enough to make the cut. She continued to practice doggedly and really was improving, but she began to lose hope that she would ever make the team. Effie’s grades were fairly good in most of her subjects, especially Charms, Transfiguration, and Ancient Runes, but it was only in fourth year that she managed to get anything but a bare pass in Potions. Effie realized that she needed to concentrate, and so she stopped working with her friends and partnered with one of the best students in the class. She actually learned a lot, and Professor Snape had to grudgingly admit that she was becoming more meticulous.
The summer before fifth year, Effie didn’t really do much. She visited friends, but for the most part she stayed with her father. Fifth year, Effie’s OWL year, was her hardest year yet. She didn’t have as much time to do mischief for two reasons – firstly, she had much more classwork, and secondly, she had finally made the Quidditch team. The Slytherin Keeper had graduated the previous year, much to Effie’s advantage, and she had finally earned the position. Unfortunately, Effie fell off her broom in late April and ended up in the hospital wing with a broken arm. Though her father was concerned about her injury, he couldn’t stop her from playing. Effie’s grades had begun to slip a little as the pressure began to mount, especially in subjects like History of Magic and Astronomy that she found extremely boring and couldn’t force herself to study for. However, she managed to pull up her socks in time for OWLs at the end of the year, receiving Outstanding OWLs in Transfiguration, Muggle Studies, Charms, and Ancient Runes, Exceeds Expectations in Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts and Acceptable in Herbology. Unfortunately, she did not receive an OWL in Astronomy or History of Magic, receiving Poor results for both.
The summer after fifth year was rather uneventful. Effie spent most of it practicing Quidditch or spending time with her friends from Hogwarts. For sixth year, she decided to take NEWT-level Transfiguration, Charms, Ancient Runes, Potions, and Defence Against the Dark Arts, glad that she was finally rid of subjects like Herbology and Astronomy.

Effie found herself sitting in the Leaky Cauldron, various bags containing her morning’s purchases surrounding her. Today was the day for school shopping. Very efficient, she had gotten most of this done during the morning. The brown-eyed girl had bought her yearly stack of textbooks at Flourish and Blotts, had gotten fitted for a few new robes at Madam Malkin’s, and had bought herself some lunch at the Leaky Cauldron. With all this done well before two o’clock in the afternoon, Effie had at least three hours to kill before her father was to pick her up on his way home from work. She was free to do whatever she wanted. The sixth year grinned at this thought and headed out of the pub where she had just polished off two sandwiches. Now she could actually do something fun.
Walking along Diagon Alley, Effie looked just a little out of place. Her chestnut curls were severely pulled back into a ponytail and her face was completely clear of any makeup whatsoever. However, what made her stand out was that instead of wearing wizarding robes like so many of the other patrons of the Alley, she was wearing a pair of faded cut-off shorts and plain orange tank top. This muggle attire was normal for her – after all, even though her father was wizard, he and his daughter still lived in the same house Effie had been brought up in located in a muggle neighbourhood. The Slytherin sixth year supposed that he hadn’t the heart to sell it and move somewhere else.
Effie watched wizards and witches converse about their various purchases or gossip about their friends and relations or try to haggle over various items of purchase. This didn’t keep her attention for long though, as she sauntered down the Alley looking at the various shops. She wanted very much to go into Quality Quidditch Supplies, but she decided to go in there last, because otherwise, she knew she would spend her whole afternoon there. Noticing a sign for the Magical Menagerie, the freckled girl decided to take a look. After all, she did have time.
As Effie entered the Menagerie, almost tripping over her own feet in the doorway of course, the first thing that hit her was the stench. Animals always give off a certain odour, and grouping them all together into one room just concentrates it. However, this didn’t stop Effie, as she was already too busy glancing at various cages that lined the room’s walls. She saw the baby kneazles in one corner, barely more than fluffballs, and a few young children who were watching them in fascination. Various colours and sizes of lizards and toads were lined up beside them. Next to them, was a cage with a rather strange animal in it that the brown-haired girl had never seen before. Effie walked over to the cage curiously and peered into it, but the last thing she expected the animal to do was to insult her.
“Whatcha lookin’ at, featherbrain?”
Effie jumped, but then began to laugh, grinning widely. “You are too cute,” she said to the creature, noting that it looked somewhat like a ferret, except for the fact that he was just a little too large to a be a ferret. He was dark brown in colour and right now he was looking at Effie like she had gone absolutely crazy.
“Yeah, yeah, piggy snout,” replied the creature with distaste. “Whatcha starin’ at me for anyway?” Looking at the bars of his cage, he sniffed them cautiously. “Oh! Pretty shiny! Much prettier outside though,” he added darkly.
Effie snorted in an extremely unladylike fashion. The animal had a point there. Being in cage really did stink. However, it was a nice, well-cleaned cage in which everything the animal needed was thoughtfully provided. The complaining wasn’t tugging on her heartstrings quite that much. “You’re not so bad,” she replied simply. “I think I’ll call you Sparkles!” She grinned wickedly. She couldn’t wait to see how he would respond to that.
“Eeeeeeeeep!” The creature stuck its tongue out at the girl. “Sparkles?” It stared at her in disbelief. Suddenly, it decided that maybe looking at Effie was encouraging her. He hurried over the back corner of his cage, where he had a pile of various strange looking things. The creature proceeded to bury into his large pile until all you could see was the top of his head, his eyes, and the end of his tail.
Effie rolled her eyes, and, looking away from the creature for a moment, noticed the sign tacked up by the animal’s cage. It read: ‘Jarvey, extremely annoying, only worth purchasing if you have a gnome problem’. She grinned. Sure, this ferret-like thing might get rid of the gnomes, but would having it around be much better? She wouldn’t mind – in fact, she sort of liked him, but she knew that most other people would find him extremely aggravating. However, the jarvey didn’t hold Effie’s attention long. The curly-haired girl heard a strange noise coming from the other side of the room and quickly hurried over to see what it was, leaving the jarvey to climb out of his burrow and mumble and complain in peace.
Full Name: Pixie Genevieve Profeta Nickname(s): Pix DOB: October 31st Year: 5th Blood Type: Pureblood
House Preference: Gryffindor Why: Pix isn’t so much brave, as she is fearless and ‘plucky’, for lack of a better word. She never thinks twice before doing something she loves, and she’ll always do or say what she wants, when she wants, no second thoughts. She’s careless in her actions, and rarely stops to think about what others might think of her. She’ll always try and do the right thing, whether it goes well with others or not. She doesn’t care what other people think and only lives for herself. Pix is infamous for being random and spontaneous.
Physical Appearance: Picture of Pix! ((Thanks to Erica Nightshade for the picture and appearance ideas!)) Pixie loves to be spontaneous, so it was no surprise to her close friends that, on a whim over the summer, she cut her hair very short, going in length from the middle of her back to a mere two inches above her shoulders. Her hair is naturally a pure shade of blond, which she takes the time to bring out with pinkish-red highlights. The shorter hair brings more attention to her angular face, high cheekbones, and piercing blue eyes. Not the dark blue or blue-green like the shades of her father and mother (respectively), but an icy shade of silver-blue. They also draw attention to her face, which usually draws attention to her always-present smile. Her lips are a pale shade of pink, though she often changes this color with her use of lipstick and gloss, depending on her outfit. Pix doesn’t care much for always staying “in style” and will often be found wearing odd clothing in many different colors and styles. She likes to draw of color on her shirts and jeans, often adding sayings, quotes, or random words to her lighter clothing in marker, or sewing on random patches and adding buttons to shirts and even pants! She does like to wear make up, even when she’s acting like a tomboy. She likes to mix and match her makeup, using glitter both on her face and in her hair. She likes to blend colors but often wears colors in shades of blue to bring out her eyes. Even though she will act like a tomboy she isn’t afraid to dress up or look girly.
Her skin tone is pale, though she does get a slight tan over the summer when she spends most of her time out of the house. She's a bit shorter than she'd like to be, standing at 5'4", and has a very lean build. She never tells anybody what she weighs, feeling that it's like taboo for a female to give away that information, but she weighs 112 lbs. She has a high metabolism, so it seems like no matter what she eats she never gains any weight. She was often used over the summer to get into small places, holes under fences and such, to go exploring around the neighborhood because of her compact build. Even though she's tiny, she does have a fair amount of muscle and is far from weak.
Personality: Pixie has a very unique personality that matches her name, taking mostly after her mother, Rosemary, who specializes in different branches Divination. Because Divination was the only magic that didn’t use a wand Pixie immediately took a liking to it because it was the first magical thing she could learn. Because she loves to be different, as it was how she’d been stereotyped as a child and she’s always just went with it, she has always taken a liking to anything that isn’t normal. She loves the odd and extraordinary aspects of life. She likes to draw, make origami, she can throw her voice, and she can speak without moving her lips like a ventriloquist, even going so far as to buy a dummy to play around with. Recently she’s taken up fencing, and used her last year’s worth of allowance to pay for a very nice fencing sword. Her stepfather, a muggle karate instructor, has instilled upon her the idea that being able to defend yourself is a very important thing.
She’s never backed down from a dare, and is sometimes seen as a tomboy (personality wise) because she can easily hang out with the guys and not seem awkward. She’ll never think twice before doing something because she always trusts her gut feeling and believes that you won’t have any fun if you never just follow impulses and do things without analyzing your every move. She’s so spontaneous that being friends with her usually causes people to grow cautious and have to think for her at times, to make sure she doesn’t do anything stupid.
While she was young Pixie was certainly aware that there were people making fun of her for her unique ways, both to her face and behind her back. She didn’t mind, though, which bothered the other children even more. Pix has learned not to let the opinions of others get in her way, and she’ll still do whatever she likes whenever she likes, and will take no heed to the opinions or cautions of others. She’ll never change the way she is just to please somebody, which is the part of her that she loves the most.
Even when she may be a little stressed out or flustered, Pix has maintained her ability not to show it on the outside. This is mainly so that she won’t give whoever is aggravating her the satisfaction of knowing that it has worked. She’ll keep her voice calm and even, and she never gets red in the face. She’s never seen without a smile, even if it is a tired smile or a sarcastic smile, which is another trademark of hers, just as much as her pixie signature. She’s even come to signing her schoolwork with her name, Pixie, and the little drawing of a pixie underneath it. Some of the teachers think it is cool or even ‘cute’.
Pixie’s day can be brightened up by the simplest of things, such as a squirrel climbing a tree, a fish jumping out of the lake, or even just a little doodle of a weird picture. She finds that being easily amused helps to keep her spirits up even when things aren’t going her way. This makes her a great person to hang out with at all times. She’s a good listener as well, and while she’s not the best student she keeps her marks fairly high. She’s a procrastinator, though, and often doesn’t do work until the night before its due, or even the morning its due sometimes! She’s bad with names, and will often forget things like dates unless she writes them down in a planner of sorts. This helps keep her organized… as long as she doesn’t lose or forget about the planner!
When Pixie is deep in thought she’ll often have a glazed-over look as if she’s preoccupied. Sometimes she can sit and ‘space out’ for long periods of time without realizing it, like when she’s listening to music. Sometimes she’ll get a distanced look while she’s drawing as well, and it’ll take somebody yelling or tapping her on the shoulder to get her attention back to the real world. She’s incapable of holding a grudge for a long time as well.
Family Members: Pix is the younger sibling of Tinkerbell Melanie Profeta. The two don’t get along at all anymore, and the only got along 2% of the time before now. Her sister, unlike Pixie, hates her name and refuses to be called even Tink or Bell! Her father, Michael, is a very prominent lawyer, infamous because he deals only with defending accused Death Eaters. He makes big money, though, and comes from a long line of lawyers and a wealthy background to which many of the children were spoiled due to the excess of money. Her mother, Rosemary, also came from a prominent family but of a more modest background. Her mother is easily taken advantage of, though, and Pix is often standing up for her when she’d otherwise back down.
History: Upon marrying Michael, Rosemary and his relationship was going strong. They had been dating since their sixth year at Hogwarts, her mother being a Ravenclaw and her father being a Slytherin. The two of them had married at the age of 29, a mere two years out of Hogwarts, but it was shortly after this time that Michael’s father died unexpectedly. He was caught in the middle of a duel right in the middle of Hogsmeade while talking with a client (convicted Death Eater) over lunch. The attacker, whom nobody ever found, missed their target and hit Michael’s dad by accident. It was because of this that Michael had to take up the family business a bit quicker than he’d intended to, but this didn’t worry him. He began to spend less and less time at home with Rosemary, and when they were about to have their first child he was often gone for weeks at a time, at the office due to business. This angered Rosemary, and when she tried to talk to him about a name for the baby he simple said ‘Whatever you pick will be fine…’ before turning back to his papers. Now infuriated, Rosemary was so angry with Michael that when he didn’t even show up at the hospital for the birth of their first daughter she named her something she knew Michael would hate; a muggle-related name that was out of the ordinary. Tinkerbell. Michael hated the name, but realized that he brought it upon himself. The same thing happened around the time of Pixie’s birth, though. Things were busy for months, and he was in the middle of a ground-breaking case on the day his second daughter was born. Rosemary, again in rebellion (but partially because she loved the Muggle story of Peter Pan and pixies/fairies in general) named her daughter Pixie. She had given both of her daughters normal middle names so that they could go by them if they didn’t like their unique first names, Melanie for Tinkerbell and Genevieve for Pixie.
Her childhood itself was fairly normal. Her mother had a job at the Ministry of Magic, but when Michael started to go away for long periods of time on business trips and long hours at the office she quit that job, staying home to take care of Tink and Pix. From an early age Tink didn’t like her name, and went by Melanie from there on. Pix, on the other hand, loved her name and always went by it. While growing up Pixie was always taunted and teased by the other kids about her name, especially during her first year at Hogwarts. She was made fun of even more because she still went by Pixie or Pix, and refused to be called anything else. At first people thought she was insane, and often times they would make fun of her behind her back, thinking that she didn’t notice. She did notice, but ignored them and acted as if she never heard their whispers. Sometimes it bothered her, but she usually didn’t care what others thought about her, as long as she was being herself. Once people got past her name she was very easy to be friends with. She always gives people a chance, no matter how mean they may be at first, which is something else she picked up from her mother.
Because people already thought of Pix has an odd person, it kind of turned her on to the idea of learning odd and unique things. She decided to learn odd tricks and talents, such as throwing her voice and speaking without moving her lips like a ventriloquist… she even went as far as to buy a puppet! She also learned origami, which was fun for her. She took to signing her name in a very flourish and artistic manner with a little doodle of a pixie underneath her name. It turned out that she had some real artistic talent, and so she came across her son-to-be favorite hobby; drawing. Pix loved to be different, especially when her quirks made other people smile. She was a good people-person, even when she herself was a little down or depressed (which was rare).
Growing up she was always surrounded by friends, and this didn’t change when she went to Hogwarts. Her father had been less that thrilled that she hadn’t been sorted into Slytherin like he had been, but Pix hadn’t wanted to follow in his or Melanie’s footsteps. She’d be the first to tell you that her sister is a dark, cynical, ambition, snobby, unbearable snot. Pixie made several new friends before the train even pulled out of the station, so that already foretold of her promising social life at school. When they arrived at Hogwarts Pix felt no fear or trepidation during her sorting. She was very calm and actually smiled as she sat down, the hat covering her eyes, eagerly waiting for the hat’s decision. She never once worried about being sorted into the wrong house, and when it called out Gryffindor she knew in her heart that this was the right choice; this was where she belonged. She immediately fell in love with the people in her house, but became friends with many people outside of her house as well. She especially made inter-house friendships when people noticed her artistic talent and started to request pictures, or origami people/objects. While Melanie insisted that she should charge money, and several people did offer to pay, Pix insisted upon giving them away for free. She always signed her drawings with her real name, Pixie, and the little pixie doodle that got her started in art. This got her name known throughout Hogwarts, and she was impressed for having already made a name for herself by the end of her first year.
It was at this time that Pixie learned, via-owl post, that their father had left. This was no surprise, because her father had been growing more and more distant. He was also not very fond of Pix and her uniqueness, and every time the two confronted it was usually in a fighting manner. Pix’s mother never spoke out against their father, even when she was right, and Pix usually said things without thinking, often getting herself into trouble. It was May of Pix’s first year, and with summer vacation nearing Melanie stated right away that she wanted to stay with their father, while Pix – even though the choice was obvious – took a little longer before stating that she would be staying with their mother. She knew that Rosemary would be having the hardest time after this was all over. Pix wanted to be there for her. Every summer since then Pix has stayed with her mother for all but two weeks, and Mel stayed with her father for all but two weeks. This meant that the two sisters only saw each other for four weeks a year, not counting the times they saw each other in passing while at Hogwarts. They grew distant, and Mel behaved more like a Slytherin than ever before, feeding off of her father’s implanted ideas growing to loath her mom. Her father had always had a superiority complex, and it was now rubbing of on Melanie. Pix stopped speaking to Mel in her fourth year when Mel said something so mean that it made her mother cry. Maybe there wasn’t a little good in everybody…
Pixie tried not to let her home life affect her school life. She was still as upbeat as ever and continued to make new friends each year. She was friends with people in all four houses and all seven years. Even though her friendliness is obvious she is also known for trying anything once. She’ll often test new spells or food, or just be the first to do something. She loved being daring because it made her not easily frightened by things or not easily scared off. Up until now she has just been herself and she doesn’t plan on ever changing for anybody or doing anything different. Over this past summer her mother had begun to date a muggle man by the name of Sean. Sean is into divination, obviously not the magical kind but the normal muggle sorts. He’s also into fencing, which is a hobby that Pixie had taken interest in and is starting to become quite good at!
Roleplay Sample: Pixie sat in the train compartment, momentarily alone. This was a good change; she liked having a few minutes of alone time every once and a while. Her sister Melanie had gone past this compartment without so much as even glancing at her, but that was all right. Pix didn’t expect any emotion from her sister, one way or another, about anything. Mel was as heartless as ever, it seemed. This made Pix extremely glad that she’d chosen to live with their mother. She would’ve hated to end up like Mel, taking after their father. She’d much rather live with Rosemary and Sean, who were a lot more fun and more understanding of her unique hobbies.
Speaking of unique hobbies, Pix thought, seeing the perfect sketch opportunity right outside of her stationary train window. There was a mother holding her daughter, obviously a first year, in a tight embrace. When the first year girl walked towards the train the mother had tears in her eyes. Pix got out her drawing notebook and flipped to the nearest blank white page, pulling out a pencil and beginning to sketch. Ink was horrible for sketches, in case you messed up or wanted to change something. Pix opted for a muggle pencil as she sketched the outline of the mother’s emotional face, including the worry lines and streaks from the tears. Pix almost shed a tear herself at the scene; probably the mother’s first child off to school. Maybe an only child. Pix liked to observe the lives of others and imagine their stories as she sketched them, it was fun for her. Almost as fun as sketching itself. The sketch was coming along perfectly, Pix thought, as she looked at it. It really captured the emotion of the moment. She fished her colored pencils out of the bag next to her, ignoring the several squares of colored paper that fell to the floor of the compartment. They were for her origami, something she’d end up doing later to amuse the worried first years. She loved to ease the worries of the younger years while the train went to Hogwarts, it was something she did since her second year. She didn’t have time to worry about picking them up, though. Right now she needed to draw before the mother moved or the train started up.
Pix didn’t have to worry about the mother moving, though. The woman was staring at the train with an odd look in her eyes, making Pix almost certain that her daughter was an only child. She hurried in picking out the right colors, making sure to add in the deep blue of the woman’s eyes brought out by the pools of tears, then the red of her lips, honey blond for the hair…
She was just starting the shading of the mouth when there was a noise outside of the compartment door. The trance-like state Pix had been in while drawing was ruined, and she was so startled that her pencil slid across the page. Crap. This was so unlike her! She rarely got nervous or jumpy at anything, why had that noise startled her so much? She was usually calm, and she usually noticed when noises were approaching, as if bracing herself for just such an event. Pix shrugged her worries away, digging through her bad to get out a white rectangle that served as an eraser. She erased the mark left by the sliding pencil before it could do too much damage, though her sketch would never be perfect now. Oh well, she thought, as the train pulled away. There was always next time.
