June 1st - June 19th
It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.

November 1
I actually went to the masque - would you believe it? Dressed as Princess Buttercup, no less! In a dress and everything... Mom would be proud. It's really too bad she didn't see me, and I didn't take any pictures. That wasn't the brightest move on my part, I suppose.
OH! But I saw a whole bunch of neat costumes, like a couple of dragons and a witch and book characters. It was really neat.
And Melana was there with some of her friends, so I talked with them for a little while before leaving early. I'm not much of a party person, you see, and I hadn't brought my notebook so I couldn't write about it before now.
Well, I could have written about it when I got back, I suppose, but it didn't occur to me to do that. I just spent twenty minutes looking for my pen, but I gave up. I think it's somewhere in my bag. It doesn't matter, because I found that neat orange ink mom gave me before I left and now I'm writing in that. It seems appropriate considering Hallowe'en just happened and all that. Maybe it'll be my special 'observations' ink...
Or just the ink that I'll use when I'm in my dorm, because I don't fancy running around with a quill and an ink jar all the time while I'm trying to watch people and stuff. Ballpoint pens are so much better for things like that. I'm beginning to wonder why witches and wizards don't use them instead...
I'll ask dad. Maybe he'll know.

Problems with Hogwarts Castle
-The staircases change (Really, what a stupid idea! "I feel like getting some students lost today, so let's give the stairs minds of their own!" )
-The hallways make no sense. (Do they change too?)
-It's impossible to find the Ravenclaw dormitory from some hallways of the castle (That might just be me.)
-The walls and the doors have the tendency to pretend to be each other
-The paintings move (But that's a wizarding world thing. It sure makes it hard to use landmarks though)

In case you hadn't guessed, I've been having trouble getting from place to place in this stupid castle. That said, I did run into Breena and the caretaker - yay Breena! The caretaker's scary though... I wonder if dad has an old map of the school or something.
I'll write him about that.
Dad didn't answer my other question, by the way, on the ballpoint pens. He pretended I didn't ask, I think, since he didn't mention it in his letters since the first of November.

More Problems with Hogwarts Castle

-The paintings move (But that's a wizarding world thing. It sure makes it hard to use landmarks though)
-The older students don't notice us firsties, so it's impossible to get help unless you're like... jumping up and down and screaming
-The caretaker is creepy
-It's still impossible to find the Ravenclaw dormitory
Breena and I broke into the caretaker's office this afternoon. And we survived.
Seriously, though, we broke in (he didn't have much protection, but I think it's because he's never in there. Seriously, with amount of dust in that room it's a miracle someone hasn't called the board of governors - it's a health hazard!) with a little alohamora charm, and viola! Got into the filing cabinets. We couldn't go into one of them (the dangerous one), but we found some pretty awesome stuff. I know I'm not supposed to tell anyone, but since this is a journal that no one but me should be reading anyway, it's not like it matters. Maybe I'll go look up a spell or something to put on it, or get Dad to put something on it over Christmas break.
Anyway, Puck is an animagus. Puck, the Gryffindor fifth year who's done practically everything. Well, maybe she's not an animagus, but she got permission from McGonagall to learn and everything! But Flint was all, "Don't tell anyone because then she'll have to register", so I guess I can see why he doesn't want us to say anything. After all, rumors go through this school like there's no tomorrow.
We did get detentions, though, which really suck. I guess that's what happens when we get caught, though.

Re: Brid Campbell's Observations - DO NOT READ!December 10
I feel so incredibly cruddy right now it's not even funny.
I hope it's not the thing that's going around the school, the Dragon Pox... Because I heard that that can kill you, which isn't a good thing. I don't want to die. Not that I'm going to!
Er... But my head hurts, my nose is stuffed up, I'm achy, I've got a sore throat... and I'm still going to classes. I think the other Ravenclaws have had a bad influence on me. I need to go spend some more time with Breena or something... go break into an office again...
Once I'm feeling better. As it is, I'd probably end up sneezing and giving us away or something...

Re: Brid Campbell's Observations - DO NOT READ!December 16
Snuck to the dorm to get this. Because guess where I am...
Yeah. The hospital wing.
Flint caught me coming back inside and stopped me, because I was a little sick (or maybe because I'd started seeing my brother) and the next thing I knew I was up in the hospital wing. I'm not sure if everything is alright in his head (so maybe he should be up here too... though maybe not, because can't say I especially like him even though he was really nice about taking me up here... but anyway, when I ran into him he was flying-tackling a bloody suit of armor. Crazy, right?)...
Meghan came to visit me yesterday, though. Well, I'm not sure if she came to visit or if she was here to investigate the illness.. but even so, she came by and visited today, too. The train should be leaving soon...
I want to go home so bad. SO BAD. But because of this stupid dragon pox, I can't, and dad's probably going to want to pull me from Hogwarts because this is a magical thing... Right now I don't care. I just want to go home.
