Coldain Insignia Ring
I am working on the 9th part of this quest - where you need to hand in Avalanche Ale to the Dorf in EW. I have read two conflicting walk thru's: one says kill the Captain while he is passed out on the ground, before he poofs and repops. The other says wait untill he poofs, and kill his new spawn.
Well, I lost my first Ale waiting for him to respawn - he poofed and never returned.
Can anyone confirm the proper method to kill this guy?
After he respawns he falls to the ground.
Kill this version.

Well, he didnt exactly re-spawn after I handed him the ale - he drank it, then after about a minute or two, went into convulsions and fell down. About another minute or two after that - he poofed, never to return. I never saw him respawn prior to poofing

When he falls to the ground, you lose targeting and must re-target him. Kill him then. I think that is what people mean by 'respawning'. I have done this a dozen times, but not lately, so my memory could be slightly flawed. In any event, once he's on the ground, he's ready to be killed (whether you lost targeting on him or not or whether he 'respawned' or not).

Aye the coldain shawl NPC's do the same thing.
Them and the ring guys actually poof and insta respawn so fast you will not see them "gone" but if you had them targetted you will see that your target "clears".
Handing the item to the original un-respawned version usually results in the item being eaten. I've seen a few folks lose thier 5th ring by giving to to the unrespawned guy.

Did you mean lose the 6th ring? They fixed that so he doesn't eat it any more, just gives it back. And since there's a bug that makes 2 dobbins spawn, you can do two people's rings at the same time without fear of losing it.
