Cutting Off Occassion Cutting Off Ocassion To the Shepherds of the fields and their Alotted Sheep 2 Corinthians: 12But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. 13For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 1. Ocassion means: a place from which a movement or attack is made, a base of operations 2. metaph. that by which endeavour is excited and from which it goes forth 1. that which gives occasion and supplies matter for an undertaking, the incentive 2. the resources we avail ourselves of in attempting or performing anything It comes from the compound words ajpov         a primary particle Transliterated Word         TDNT Entry Apo         None Phonetic Spelling         Parts of Speech apo'         Definition 1. of separation 1. of local separation, after verbs of motion from a place i.e. of departing, of fleeing, ... 2. of separation of a part from the whole 1. where of a whole some part is taken 3. of any kind of separation of one thing from another by which the union or fellowship of the two is destroyed 4. of a state of separation, that is of distance 1. physical, of distance of place 2. temporal, of distance of time 2. of origin 1. of the place whence anything is, comes, befalls, is taken 2. of origin of a cause Original Word         Word Origin oJrmavw         from (3730) Transliterated Word         TDNT Entry Hormao         5:467,730 Phonetic Spelling         Parts of Speech hor-mah'-o         Verb Definition 1. to set in rapid motion, stir up, incite, urge on 2. to start forward impetuously, to rush Meditating on the meaning of this word in all of its fullness, tells us that the use of the Word in this scripture is very revealing to the situations that leaders face within the body of Christ today when watching out for the allotted flock that has been give them to protect against the enemy in the field. The sheep are supposed to graze freely. They aren't suppose to be interfered with by the shepherd. The shepherd's main purpose is to guard the sheep, make his presence known, to the predators that will attempt to come in, stealing sheep out of the fold, and destroying them as for food for their own appetites! The shepherd is to have a presence, stay awake and watch for signs of trouble and take action immediately even if to protect just one sheep in the fold from the predator that roams. The issue many leaders face today is who is the predator? So we have an imbalance. We have leaders that go to far in their zeal to protect the sheep becoming a offense themselves to those they are watching over for Christ's sake. On the other side of the coin, we have leaders who will do nothing to disturb the peace, allowing the wolves to roam in the sheep hoping all will work out in the end. This article is based on balance without falling into " shepherding" of control of the sheep to where they cannot graze freely and in peace. Will the sheep always know what is going on? Of course not. It is the shepherds duty to move out the trouble even while the sheep are grazing peacefully among the waters. The sheep will scatter when the trouble is detected by them before the shepherd because the shepherd is doing nothing to keep the danger outside of the grazing pasture. By this time, it will be difficult for a lone shepherd to lead the sheep in trust and deal with the enemy that has entered the fold. Paul gives us an idea of how to handle these issues that DO come up. He says 12But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion Paul is letting the people of God know his duty. What he does, he does to cut off the opportunity of the enemy to bring an attack to the fold because they desire to attack. They are sneaking around, appearing to be uninterested yet have plans to destroy. Have you ever witnessed a lone coyote? If you have you will understand what is being spoken here. If you come in contact with one physically, you will notice that the coyote will ignore you and just keep going on his way. He knows your there, but he will ignore all attempts by you to get his attention. However, if he is with his clan, and he knows you are wounded or alone, they will all surround you and attack. These wild dogs will make you think they are uninterested until they get the advantage going their way then they will attack. Paul says he does what he does to cut off that occasion from the place in where they desire to gain the advantage. Paul says that the occasion is wherein they glory. What does that mean exactly? To understand we go back to the original meaning again. The attack or occasion is where they boast 8, rejoice 4, make boast 2, joy which comes even to a deeper revelation wherein this boasting and rejoicing comes from the root word which means 1. to pray to God 2. to wish, to pray, to pray for Paul goes on to explain to the people of God how subtle and devious the workings of the enemy are through the hands of human beings. It is good to read the rest of this chapter because it goes into greater detail of understanding of who is the true and who is the false. It also gives us more deeper understanding of how the enemy likes to approach! This requires time and meditation to receive all of what Paul had to say. Until then, see these scriptures: 2Co 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 2Co 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. It is always good to go to the origin word meaning. Angel is paraphrased to mean messenger. However go deeper into where the word Angel came from and you will find not a heavenly spiritual being, but this: Original Word         Word Origin a[gw         a primary word Transliterated Word         TDNT Entry Ago         None Phonetic Spelling         Parts of Speech ag'-o         Verb Definition 1. to lead, take with one 1. to lead by laying hold of, and this way to bring to the point of destination: of an animal 2. to lead by accompanying to (into) a place 3. to lead with one's self, attach to one's self as an attendant 4. to conduct, bring 5. to lead away, to a court of justice, magistrate, etc. 2. to lead, 1. to lead, guide, direct 2. to lead through, conduct to: to something 3. to move, impel: of forces and influences on the mind 3. to pass a day, keep or celebrate a feast, etc. 4. to go, depart So Satan transforms himself. So what does that really mean? The original word meaning says Strong's Number: 4976 Browse Lexicon Original Word         Word Origin sch'ma         from the alternate of (2192) Transliterated Word         TDNT Entry Schema         7:954,1129 Phonetic Spelling         Parts of Speech skhay'-mah         Noun Neuter Definition 1. the habitus, as comprising everything in a person which strikes the senses, the figure, bearing, discourse, actions, manner of life etc. So where does the deception come in? What fools us? Well we are starting to see it. He goes for our human senses to have us believe that he looks like us, bears the same as us, speaks the scripture the same as us, acts spiritual and Christian the same as us, and is born again as us. What light is he transforming into to deceive us? 1. light 1. the light 1. emitted by a lamp 2. a heavenly light such as surrounds angels when they appear on earth 2. anything emitting light 1. a star 2. fire because it is light and sheds light 3. a lamp or torch 3. light, i.e brightness 1. of a lamp 2. metaph. 1. God is light because light has the extremely delicate, subtle, pure, brilliant quality 2. of truth and its knowledge, together with the spiritual purity associated with it 3. that which is exposed to the view of all, openly, publicly 4. reason, mind 1. the power of understanding esp. moral and spiritual truth And who are his ministers that also are transformed in the same manner? Well the following is a minister 1. one who executes the commands of another, esp. of a master, a servant, attendant, minister 1. the servant of a king 2. a deacon, one who, by virtue of the office assigned to him by the church, cares for the poor and has charge of and distributes the money collected for their use 3. a waiter, one who serves food and drink These are ministers of righteousness: 1. · the doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God 2. integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and acting · in a narrower sense, justice or the virtue which gives each his due Before we meditate on the intensity of this meaning, we have to go back to the most original word for righteousness as it is used in scripture and show how that word has built meaning upon meaning to get to what we have understood it to be today. Original Word         Word Origin deivknumi         a prolonged form of an obsolete primary of the same meaning Transliterated Word         TDNT Entry Deiknuo         2:25,* Phonetic Spelling         Parts of Speech dike-noo'-o         Verb Definition 1. to show, expose to the eyes 2. metaph. 1. to give evidence or proof of a thing 2. to show by words or teach Original Word         Word Origin divkh         probably from (1166) Transliterated Word         TDNT Entry Dike         2:178,168 Phonetic Spelling         Parts of Speech dee'-kay         Noun Feminine Definition 1. custom, usage 2. right, just 3. a suit at law 4. a judicial hearing, judicial decision, esp. sentence of condemnation 5. execution of a sentence, punishment 1. to suffer punishment 6. the goddess Justice, avenging justice Strong's Number: 1342 Browse Lexicon Original Word         Word Origin divkaioß         from (1349) Transliterated Word         TDNT Entry Dikaios         2:182,168 Phonetic Spelling         Parts of Speech dik'-ah-yos         Adjective Definition 1. righteous, observing divine laws 1. in a wide sense, upright, righteous, virtuous, keeping the commands of God 1. of those who seem to themselves to be righteous, who pride themselves to be righteous, who pride themselves in their virtues, whether real or imagined 2. innocent, faultless, guiltless 3. used of him whose way of thinking, feeling, and acting is wholly conformed to the will of God, and who therefore needs no rectification in the heart or life 1a 2. only Christ truly 1. approved of or acceptable of God 3. in a narrower sense, rendering to each his due and that in a judicial sense, passing just judgment on others, whether expressed in words or shown by the manner of dealing with them Can you paraphrase a minister of righteous? Then can you paraphrase the meaning of transformed as one? Its not as black and white easy as it once appeared! What revelation that Paul held. Being familiar with the original language of the scriptures he spoke with the utmost authority in these matters. There will be more on this subject as the Lord directs. For now, we can see that there is occasion for glory, mostly in the flesh, to appear spiritual and in right standing with God, through teaching. Another way to see these who have slithered in amongst the People of God are what the scriptures call, false prophets, false apostles, false deacons, false teachers and preachers and false evangelists. The apostle usually operating in all as the fullness of Christ goes forth by their submitted and condemned flesh. So is it that easy to test the spirits? No. Because even they acknowledge that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh and was raised from the dead. They don't mind saying his name and fooling you and me. That is the name of this end time game that began in the Garden of Eden when the Serpent twisted the meaning of the Word of God and tricked Eve. When Paul said he does what he does, he wasn't just referring to prayer alone. He had to DO something. He had to take action. Whatever action you must take, take it with the unction of the HolySpirit, speak the Truth, remain in Peace and free of condemnation. Don't be afraid to call a spade a spade dear leaders in the Lord. But also use wisdom and do so with 2 or 3 witnesses privately as not to make a public spectacle of the Lord Jesus Christ.
