From Daniel
Well, the time is near... I have started packing up my dressing room and have organised my farewell bash. All that is left is to film my final few scenes, and attempt to steal my uniform. that's right kids...I am nearly outta here!
30th of May is my last official day on The Bill, and I cannot believe how quickly it has come around. I started back in September 2002, fresh out of Godspell, and it took me a while to find my stride. Make no mistake, coming into the Bill is like trying to jump onto a treadmill running at max speed and full incline.
With the help of a few old faces, Scott Neal, Jane Danson, Rene Zagger and Chris Simmons, I felt at home in no time. I will never forget my first day on set, being arrested by miss Cordingly. Naked!
Funnily enough my most daunting day was in fact my second day on set. First time in uniform with Karl Collins and Di Parish. I had to say only one line, but seeing these guys work was incredible, I realised then and there that as a young actor I needed to raise my game to cut it.
20 months later I am pleased with my improvement, and how Cameron has developed as a character. But I could not have done it without working with such a stellar cast. The authority of Simon Rouse's Jack Meadows, the subtle comedy of Ciaran's Gary Best, the intensity of Rene with Nick Klein to name a few. On set you cannot help but lift your game, learn from them and grow. The relentlessness of the Bill schedules also means that you don't have a choice - 6 days a week long hours, every emotion under the sun! For example last week i had to start the day arguing with Gabriel, off to another unit to break down into tears of anguish then snog a girl, then off to another unit to have a D&M with a friend, before returning to the Blue unit to attempt to kill someone in a fit of rage! Now tell me an Acting school that does that!
People often ask about my favourite scenes, and to be honest I am just a big tourist at heart. I loved filming around London, we did a day at St. Paul's, 3 days on the Thames at Tower Bridge, plenty of time next to the er... Millennium Dome. These days make for wonderful memories. Not a day goes by when I don't feel truly thankful for the job I get paid to do.
By far my favourite part however is the driving. It must be every boys dream job to dress up in police uniform and drive really really fast with sirens blaring! I get a rush big time!!
Alas it will soon be all just a memory, and things will keep moving. New characters will be plodding the beat and I hopefully will be working between the UK and Australia. They say that acting is 'the art of making and losing families' and it is true. I have lived 12 hours a day with the cast and crew of this show in rain and hail, on night shoots, on boats, in buses, in make up, at 6am and at midnight. Talented, hard working, amazing people. Mates.
Ladies and gentlemen, Cameron Tait has left the building.
