Dark Lines around mouth - How to Lighten?
Does anyone have suggestions for lightening the delicate skin around the mouth? Something that isn't too drying or irritating.
I have strange lines around my mouth. But they're not laugh lines or wrinkles at all. When I look closely at them, the skin is very smooth. The lines are dark, almost like bruises. Sometimes they are red and very irritated looking.
I noticed that they looked red especially after I was chewing on the inside of my lip. (Gross, huh?) It's a terrible habit. And whenever I do it, the area around my mouth turns red. So clearly this is the cause, but I'm not sure why. It's not like I'm touching the outside of my mouth or stretching the skin too much.
I've been using Glyquin, but I think it's caused my skin to flake a bit. Any ideas?
Is the area around your mouth dry? That sort of discoloration can be caused by a number of things. You might try using Apricot Kernal oil if your skin is dry in that area. You also need to get into a routine of giving yourself a facial, exfoliation, toning and moisturizing. You may find that with that daily routine, the exfoliating will help to rid you of dead skin layers and the rest of the routine will keep the skin in good shape. Apricot Kernal oil is a gentle and not too greasy fixed oil that can be safely used on sensitive facial areas like around the mouth and around the eyes.

I totally agree with hennajoy, u're marks maybe be cause by a number of things. However if it is an irritated infection of some sort u should be worry about healing, rather than fading. I would suggest u use a little hyrocortizone, if it appears to be and infection..........the cortizone will heal it quickly and it should flake off ...allow the skin to go through it's natural healing phase and the marks will fade eventually.
However if the marks are just u're everyday skin discolorations "dark marks" from habit or whatever.....i would suggest "African Queen Beauty *Cream super strenght*" u only have to use a little and it works fast 2 -3 weeks and also u have to be careful cause i had a friend that used it for a mark on her chin and she faded it lighter that her skin tone.

Hi, I haven't posted in a while.
But someone suggested Black Opal for dark circles/lightening skin. It may not have even been on this thread... I was skeptical because my prescription strength product didn't work. I thought an OTC couldn't possibly help. Although the product is made for eyes, I use it on the lines around my mouth also.
Black Opal is awesome! It lightened my dark lines so much that I don't need to wear concealer on them anymore! I went out without makeup for the first time in 10 or 15 years!
If I read this message I'd think it was from someone who was "planted" by the Black Opal Company. But I'm an actual user. I got it at the HairTown in Cheltenham, Philly. Anyone from Philly on this forum?

I went to the dermatologist the other day and she prescribed Elidel. Turns out I have seborreah. It's basically dandruff of the face. Finally! I know what causes my dark lines. I've been using it for the past few days and the lines are actually darker now. But I'll stick to it for a while, since the dr. says it could take some time to work.
Re: Dark Lines
Let us know how the new meds work. You may also look into some of the herbs with antiseptic, antifungal properties. Using those in a mask, for scrubs or as toners will be helpful.
I'm on the other side of PA...McKeesport, outside of Pittsburgh.
