Deal with it. (open)
Alastair was laying on a bench on the rooftop of the school. He was very depressed. He was once normal, but ever since his good-for-nothing father traded him away his life was mostly miserable. Alastair was looking at the clouds and just thinking about life, thinking about his friends, are they real friends. He then felt a split pain in his chest. He started to scream but he only let out a small one. The demon inside of him was causing damage, but there was no way to get it out without hurting or killing himself. The pain stopped and he thought,"Stupid Datu.... this demon wouldn't be hurting me so much if he hadn't tried to get it out..... I swear if he ever does that again I will KILL him!" Alastair was just sitting there now with nothing going on inside his head. He started to finger his sword and then he gripped it. He unsheathed it and started to swing it around and practiced with it for about 15 minetes. He sheathed it and then laid down.

Re: Deal with it. (open)

Hawthorne watched the strange boy. She had admired his sword-play immensely, but was still feeling uncomfortable with the whole approaching him situation. After all, these were people. Still, it was kinda creepy her sitting in the shadows watching him. She knew she was supposed to try to make friends here, but he seemed a little tormented. That was prolly what drew her attention to him in the first place.

She sighed a little. If she couldn't find the courage to talk to one silly, blonde boy how could she ever get back out into the world? Gathering what little courage she could muster Hawthorne stepped out of her little shadow hidey hole and approached Alastair.

"You're a very impressive swordsman, where'd you learn to fight like that?"

Alastair turned around quickly and saw a young lady lokking at him and then said," Oh, you like it? Well I learned it from my old master. It's not that good though." Alastair liked meeting new people and loved making friends out of them. He then asked," What's your name, I'm Alastair Ackhart." He then stuck out his hand.

She smiled at the boy and gently grasped his hand in her calloused palm. Shaking it up and down a few times, before releasing it. She then grasped her hands behind her back so that he wouldn't notice the nervous twitching in her fingers.

"Nice to met you Alastair, my name is Hawthorne Johnstone, and I just started here."

She grinned half heartedly up at the boy. Her courage was starting to fail her, and she kind of wanted to run away. Still, she had committed to this introduction, and he did seem awfully nice.

"You're being modest. I've never seen anybody handle a sword like that. How long did it take you to learn?"

" Well, if you want the truth. 4 years about. It was a lot of hard work and training." Alastair noticed that she was nervous. So he said," Hey, I'm pretty new too so don't be nervous. I'm a good guy once you get to know me. Oh, and I was just as nervous, so keep that chin up and look at the positives." Alastair was grinning and his red eyes were slightly steaming which meant he was happy." Even if your nervous.... Fight it off, be as brave as you can." For being possesed by a demon he was really optimistic!

Hawthorne smiled uncomfortably at Alastair. She didn't really want to say that it wasn't the school that made her nervouse, it was being close to him, but that would be rude. She chewed on her lip ring as she carefully inspected his face. Despite the red eyes, he seemed fairly friendly. And she was already learning fairly quickly that you couldn't judge your fellow students based on their appearance.

Carefully, and using very slow, unsure movements, Hawthorne sat down on the bench next to Alastair.

"How come your eyes are red? Does that have something to do with your power?"

It was dangerous territory, asking about other people's powers. After all, they might return the favour, and that would be embarassing. Unfortunately, Hawthorne's curiosity had taken the driver's seat on this crazy socialization ride.

Alastair let out a chuckle." Thats the seventh time someone asked me so I'm not so conscious about it anymore." Alastair paused and then said," Well, one day I got possessed by a demon. He tried to take over my body but I had the stronger will. He gave me terrible pain attacks always. Little did I know every pain attack meant he was fusing with me. He's now a part of me even if I don't want him. He gave me these red eyes, or the sign of possession. But FYI, they don't have anything to do with my powers." Al took a deep breath then said," What about you, what are your powers?"

Hawthorne sighed. She hated this part. Especially because everyone else here had such awesome powers compared to hers. She fiddled with the three handcuff earings dangling in her left ear for a second, and then answered Alastair's return question.

"I . . . I can make a map appear on my forearm." There, that one didn't sound horrible, after all, she didn't have to tell him how accurate it was. It was the second power that made her feel like a laughingstock.

In a voice barely above a whisper, and speaking as quickly as possible, she added "andIcanmakeastuffedllamaappearbesidemyhead."

There, that wasn't so bad. But now she was going to die of embarassment in front of an amazingly attractive swordsman. Great.

"Well, the map power seems pretty cool. I mean, you can find out where your going any time. And I'm sure you can do good with the stuffed llama thing. I mean if they stay forever, you can give them to poor kids that don't have anything." Alastair always saw the optimistic side of things, and besides, What good would it be to crush someones self-esteem. He new she was expecting criticism, so he let it easy. But if it was Datu... That's a whole different story!

Hawthorne smiled at Alastair, and gave a sardonic little laugh.

"Thanks, I know that the stuffed animal thing is lame, I don't even know why I can do it, or how. As for the map, I hope it gets better, but I have a lousy sense of direction anyways."

She just wasn't used to optimistic people, they kinda freaked her out a bit. She tapped her tongue ring against her teeth a couple times, trying to think of something to say.

"So . . . what do you do for fun around here?"

" Well, 'fun' to me isn't really fun for you, I guarantee. You see, I'm a Scot, And frankly, Scot's are in a way, sometimes, a little, well, let's just say violent. And fun to me is going to the forest or, anywhere for that matter, and slay demons. I'm not really what you would call, 'civil'. And I'm not really that good either. I've done a good deal of stealing from people I hate." Alastair then said," If I disgrace you then I won't take offense if you leave. I'm just being honest."

Re: Deal with it. (open)

Hawthorne smiled at Alastair. He certainly wasn't what she was expecting, in fact, very little that she encountered here was what she had expected when her neighbour had enrolled her in the school.

Too many X-men comic books, Hawthorne.

She shrugged her shoulders.

"I'm a good ol' Canadian girl. Fun for me is going out and piercing my face full of metal. If you want to go out and kill demons, who am I to judge the enjoyment of it?"

Hawthorne wasn't really violent towards others, but she was certainly a fan of pain, even if it was just a result of circumstance.

Alastair chuckled. He then said," Well, I was half being sarcastic, but I do somtimes enjoy it when I'm really pissed." Alastair's eyes wildly moved, then Alastair shut them and put his hand on his head. He then looked back at Hawthorne and said," Sorry, very small pain attack. Never had one that small and short."

Hawthorne smiled at him.

"If you've never had one that small and short before maybe you're getting better? Maybe you're getting to a point where you're strong enough to overcome it."

She hoped so. Alastair was a very nice boy, and it was a shame that he had to go through something so terrible. Good people always got the worst of it, it seemed.

Alastair smiled. He liked the fact that someone in this school was kind." Thanks." He simply said. Then he said," Hey, I have a question for you...... Well, two questions acyually. One, Do you HATE demons? And two, are you good at fighting?"

Re: Deal with it. (open)

Hawthorne seriously considered Alastair's question for a minute. It seemed to be a topic that was really important to him, and she didn't want her answer to be poorly conceived or flippant.

"In my culture, we view demons differently than many other people. I see them as spirits who have been angered. I don't hate them, but they need to be put to rest. As to your other question, I'm a brawler, sure, but I've never used weapons, and I've never fought anything supernatural."

Alastair thought for a moment. He then opened his mouth but just closed it once more. He stared at the roof tops until he said, " Well, here, at Manga High, they attack students. I fight to help those students and myself. The demon inside me weakens when I slay a little devil. I don't think they are angered spirits. I think they are evil spirits." Alastair looked back at her and said in an angered tone. " I slay them for my freedom. I hope that the demon inside me will suffer..... suffer ten times worse then I did because of him. I'll make him pay."

Re: Deal with it. (open)

Hawthorne carefully quelled the desire to put a soothing hand on Alastairs arm. Contact in this situation was uncalled for, at least in her books. She linked her hands behind her back, and looked intently at him, a bit of anger in her voice.

"Then I say kill as many of them as possible. If their suffering sets you free then I say whipe them all off the face of this planet. Freedom is worth any price you may need to pay, and vengeance even more so."

A strabge light lit her eyes, and an observant person would realize she's speaking from experience. Revenge and freedom were two of the driving forces in most of Hawthorne's life.

"That's why I train day and night. I want to wipe them out as you say." Alastair's eyes began to flame." I want to make them all suffer! They diserve it after what they did to the innocent. I want them to all DIE!!!" Alastair's eyes where a huge flame. They never went this high. He was really pissed at all demons." DAMN THEM ALL TO HELL!!!"

Hawthorne was being caught up in Alastiar's fervour. A charismatic male could always make her forget the rest of the world. It was her one failing. But she could be cruel when the desire for vengeance, for herself or another was in pain or danger.

"Not just hell, Alastair. That's where they come from, where they revel, where they play. 'Tis too kind a fate for them. Damn them to the deepest layer of hell, a place so cold they'll never return."

" I guess your right." Alastair looked at the rooftops then heard a noise on a roof. He saw a demon. He was aiming a bow at him." DAMN! There's a demon there get down and stay hear." Alastair jumped on the roof. The demon fired his bow and the arrow flew through the air. Al hit it away with his sword. It was more luck then skill but he charged. He jumped onto another roof. Then another arrow. Missed. He was lucky. He jumped onto another roof. Then a plop. Alastair looked at his shoulder. An arrow. He was hit. He then Screamed in anger," I"m gonna' drink your blood!" Alastair jumped to the roof the demon was on and the demon tried to run be Al threw his sword. It hit the demon on the back. Al then ran forth and pulled his sword. he pulled out the arrow with a grunt of pain and then said," You left this in me ass." He then jabbed it into the demon's throat. The demon blew up into smoke. Alastair began to walk back to Hawthorne. He put his hand on his wound. stopping the bleeding.
