Did comcast really double their speed?
All the commercials are saying they now have "double the speed", but I sure as heck haven't noticed any difference.
My upload in particular I know is still capped at what it was a year ago.

Yes indeed they did. Qwest is now offering DSL for $27 a month, so its a good countermove because I was definetly thinking about switching until I saw the email about the upgrade. Just rember to reset your modem. I was getting 236kbps on dslreports.com and now I get solid 390kbps. Very nice.

Yeah, the email they sent you says you have to unplug the modem and wait 30 seconds and then plug it back in for it to get the upgraded speed

"Tweaks" you installed earlier may be affecting your speed too. I don't even remember doing it, but I'm running the same install from years ago, so who knows... Anyway, I was getting crappy download speeds (even slower than their old rates). My wife's computer clocked in at just under 4Mb. I changed some registry settings, and I'm now downloading at 400KB/s. And yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just download that they changed.
