Dionysius Roderick
OOC
Name: Mallory
Contacts: amour_du_mal@hotmail.com
Age: 16 in 4 days...woohoo!
Code: Rita Skeeter Illegal Animagus
IC
Name: Dionysius (Dee-on-a-say-us) Adam Roderick
Nickname(s): Very few know his full name so he is simply known as Dion. An nickname he might be called by a few of his guy friends is Roder.
DOB: July 4th, 1991
Year: 6th (he’s suppose to be in 7th, but he missed a year *see history*)
Blood: Half-blood (mom's a witch, dad's a muggle)
House Preference: Gryffindor
Why: Dion's considerate nature for others is very much a Badger quality, but it's that same quality that earns him a place in the Gryffindor house. He's always willing to stand up for others – a bold bravery to defend everyone's justice. Dion will also not hesitate to stick up for others. All and all, he's not deposed to having people walk all over each other and treat each other horribly. , and is it that aspect of integrity that gives him the great courageousness of a lion. But there is also a form of strength and braveness that comes in the way Dion holds back his own problems and emotions to keep others happy; he’ll put himself last for others.
Physical Appearance: Dion looks a little ruff around the edges, like a pure, rock loving, Irish badass. And yes, he is a fan of very loud music and the tattoos he has doesn't exactly hide his somewhat rebellious side. But the truth is, it is very easy to mistake Dion as a mean, ignorant person by simply looking at him.
Up until the beginning of his sixth year at Hogwarts, Dion had a mess of shiny, chocolate brown hair atop his head – a very endearing quality of his for the ladies. But now, his hair is all shaved off. It resembles only but a close shave and a small peak in his hair line, wearing the style of a head much like that of a solider – except on occasion when he will let it grow a bit. However, besides his ever-growing facial hair – which he shaves, but prefers to leave on the rough side - what remains of his hair is a pair of thick (but quite frankly spaced apart) dark eyebrows. Below them lies a pair of hazelnut eyes, splattered with blotches of a deeper brown and a vivid green. He has a sort of broad, sort of knobby shaped nose, that magnitudes fairly well to the other features of his face, and thin, pale peach lips.
Dion's figure is very much bulky and muscular, particularly in his arms, from following a regiment workout plan in the morning (including much of the kind of exercises you'd see at a boot camp), and running at night. He also maintains a lovely six pack, which, if he's in a cocky enough mood, would be willing to show to anyone who asks. Dion's skin is a medium tone, being a little darker in the summer time, and much of the time there will be cuts and bruises scattered everywhere from Quidditch (he prefers to just let them heal naturally). On his left arm marks memories of the past year, with black tattoos of Celtic designs spreading over his shoulder and upper arm, formatting around two coat-of-arm-like griffins facing each other on his brawny deltoid .
Along with his hulking bod comes a tall figure, standing at 6'2'', not to mention large hands, feet, and well, others of the sort. He typically bundles himself up carelessly in Muggle Clothes any time he can get out of wearing school uniform. Most often that not his wardrobe includes rugged tees (usually including some kind of Indy or Punk band on it), equally tattered and faded blue jeans, and - for a touch of couture – simple, yet expensive overcoats and sweaters. It doesn't quite matter what he wears, since his fit stature makes him look good in anything. Yet, he still enjoys spending some of his pay check working at his dad's auto shop in the summer on necklaces and rings (okay, so maybe he attempts to look good just a little).
So, it is, in fact, this sort of appearance that causes Dion to be a very intimidating-looking person. Though, with Dion, what you see is not exactly what you get, so to say. However, there are his expressions to speak louder than his large appearance. A soft, sincere look is always evident through his attentive eyes. Moreover, it is Dion's constant use of his eyebrows and hand gestures to move and sway as he talks and listens, proving more his conscientious and respecting temperament, keeping composure even in situations where any normal person would burst out in fits of anger.
Personality:
Dionysius has more than just a complex name. He is a complex person all and all. He is sensitive and strong-willed, independent and possessive, emotionally sharing and private, fearless and controlled - all in the same. It may be a wonder how it is possible for him to be so many contradictory things at once, but Dion inspires others to reach their depth and is often a positive force for those around him. As a deep and extreme person, he is intuitive, compassionate, and emotional, yet many other sides of him seem to lie beneath his skin.
Though he may not look the part, Dion is a gentle soul. Through his rebellious past has learned to learn from his mistakes, and developed very loving and respecting traits, those of which are directed chiefly towards others. Whatever he says, and in whichever way he acts, he almost always takes into consideration how it will affect the people around him. Dion likes to involve himself in problematic situations when it is needed, acting as a referee between arguments and fights in attempt to settle things down and make sure no one gets hurt (which is very much a prefect quality of his). Despite the emotions he may be feeling at the particular moment, he handles every situation with care, keeping a clam voice and persona and respecting each individual. To sum things up, he has an incredible love and care for others.
The problem with such a compassionate personality is that Dion is a restless spirit. He is always worrying about others and feels a need to fix every other person’s problems. But because he's worried of people worrying about him, he likes to keep his own problems hidden, or rather, ignored. If something is wrong with him, he'll deny it, and put on a smile, because he's much more concerned about others than himself. Which is can be seen as somewhat of a downfall. He doesn't pay enough attention to himself that his emotions get piled up and gets easily anxious, and almost a ticking time bomb (although it would take an incredibly amount of energy to set him off). This causes him to almost be a danger, or intimating to
others. If he were to lash out again, (like the night of the robbery *see history*) his bold structure and strength would make him very much a formidable person in the face of others that aren’t his allies.
When it comes to friendships, Dion is one of the best you can get - extremely trustworthy (he’ll keep secrets to the grave), a great listener, and a great guy to have a blast with. His insightful nature seems to drag him towards developing close relationships with girls. From having a younger sister, he not only has become at handling children, but has learned how to treat women. He is a guy that many girls would find to be easy to talk to and someone they can count on to listen to what they have to say. And if there were someone Dion would share his emotions or thoughts with, it would be such 'girl' friends. But because Dion also has a very "manly" nature to him, he still continues to need those nights out with the boys to smoke cigars, drink whiskey, and play poker. And although Dion is easily able to attract many friends with his caring personality, he prefers to keep his list of close friends to a minimum, and keeps others as friendly acquaintances or buddies, simply because he doesn't like to draw attention to himself, and, quite frankly, he doesn’t need even more people to worry about 24/7.
Dion is an idealist, and at times his moods and light use of sarcasm can seem to clash with his good intentions and efforts, but for someone who knows Dion, they’ll know he solemnly means good. Receptive and clever, he learns quickly and has an instinctive understanding of others. And one of his more greater talents is just that, reading others. He is a great judge of human nature, and can see right through others and grasp their thoughts and emotions. Because he can so easily recognize sentiments in others, his sensitivity is easily fused and he'll try to do what he can to enlighten or diffuse them. Despite he’s wariness and kindliness, he seems to keep a calm and easy-going mask in place. And his sensitivity doesn’t cause him to lack self confidence either. In fact, he's a very cocksure person, especially when it comes to his physical appearance, his intentions, his decisions, and his abilities. But it is rather his eyes and facial expressions bring his good attentive soul into view. Plus, Dion can very much be a care-free guy, depending on the circumstance.
He is a guy that can very much have a good time. It's probably one of the only ways he can gets his worries of others off his mind and enjoy the moment. It is also that sort of relaxation from stress that got him into smoking and occasional drinking. And those aren't the only things he loves doing. He absolutely loves playing keeper at Quidditch, and - when it comes to the muggle world - watching soccer and football. He loves listening to all sorts of music, but particularly indie, punk, and rock bands. He enjoys going to parties, where he tends to be that laid-back guy sitting to the side, enjoying the time with his friends, laughing and cracking jokes, and being there for a friend if they were to have a little too much fun. He's a very comfortable and assuring guy to be with and will go out of his way to make sure everyone’s safe and having fun. Another small talent of his includes being able to speak fluently in Greek from his mother.
Which brings me to Dion's strong leadership skills. He tends to act as the arbitrator, standing between fights, and trying to resolve issues. With the power to pull through and endure, he prefers to take lead and use his ideas in a constructive way. His strong convictions and a pragmatic approach enable him to think fast and be an assertive debater. He can present his vision clearly and persuade others to see things from his perspective. It is no doubt these skills that make him a perfect prefect as well as a person who can prevent fights from taking place. He makes sure everyone gets fair, equal treatment, and he's there to work out problems. He is never one to take sides between two friends, as he as equally keeps his trust with both of them, but if it’s an enemy he's dealing with, it might be a different issue. Dion can't stand shallow, self-righteous and uncaring people. To such people, he is unfriendly, and ignores them. He doesn’t necessarily have “foes” – or rather he just doesn’t like to think of them as such – but if someone he doesn’t like hurts a friend of his, or says something cold to him, Dion will swell up in angry. But, he would rather not sink to their level would be worried of the danger of losing control of his fury that he rather tells them away or warns them. And if there is something else Dion hates it is being taken advantage of - it is hard for him forgive and forget.
And it is once again his sensitivity that also serves him a negatives affect. He likes to build onto his relationships so much that he can become easily fearful of losing the ones he loves dearly. Just another worry he puts on himself for his friends. He can become very protective of close friends and won't let anyone ruin anything for them. If someone were to hurt one of his friends, he would first approach with a calm, assertive, and respectful guard. But if the pain provoked is worse enough, if someone touches a nerve, and if its something that he can just not let go, Dion may easily become ill-tempered, aggressive, and very bloodcurdling to the culprit.
Because Dion is entering a new transformation in his life, from the troubled, criminal, emotional struggling person to a humanitarian and considerate person who makes sure he can do whatever he can to help others, he doesn't know much about himself and his future. No matter how heartfelt his intentions are, there's no doubting there's many things he needs to discover about himself, and the fact that he chooses to crowd his own matters with those of others does not help the situation. He's lost in himself but almost too boldly brave to acknowledge it. In his mind, others go before him, and their matters are much more important than his.
History:
Dionysius Adam Roderick was born in acity hospital in the great city of Dublin, Ireland. His father, Frank Roderick, was and is a typical, ale-drinking, sport pub regular, muscular, hair-shaven Irish muggle who owned a auto-shop just around the corner from their small, skinny, red-brick house that laid between 20 or so other houses of the exact kind. His mother, Sema Spandonis, is a puffy, jolly woman who is a Healer at St. Mungo’s and an incredibly loving mother who loves to cook sweets for her little “sugarplum” – she actually says it in Greek – (aka. Dion).
Sema’s parents are both a witch and wizard, and although she lived in Greece, she was sent to Hogwarts for her parent’s intentions of giving her the greatest wizarding education they could. The Hufflepuff graduated with excellent marks, and decided to train as a healer at St. Mungo’s, landing herself in Dublin, Ireland, as she had always loved the city. At that time Frank was starting up his auto business. Their love was instant. Frank was working on a customer’s car and couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working properly. Attempting to start it over and over again, a big puff of black ash spit out of the muffler just as Sema was walking by and stained all over her white skirt. He ran over to her and stammered out his apologizes and she stammered out her assertion that it was okay. They fell in love, and Sema told Frank about the magical world, who was confused and muffled about it all, but accepted it no matter. They got married soon after, and had Dion.
Dion had grown up with a childhood consisting of playing soccer and football with his friends as much as possible. He went to a muggle public school and loved eating his mom’s Greek pastries and watching soccer and football games with his father on Friday nights. His sister Abbey was born when Dion was 7, and since then, he has taken watch over her as much as possible – acting as a typical, protecting brother to make sure nothing bad happens to her. His first magical experience happened when he was 9. He was witnessing a girl being teased by a boy and through his anger, the boy’s pants fell down and his mouth was sealed shut, causing everyone around him to point and laugh, including the teary-eyed girl. After school, he told his mom about the incident and she revealed to him her secret of the magical world.
After that, Dion’s imagination was full of all the wonder’s of such a world and continually asked his mother questions about wizards and creatures, and all sorts of things that popped up in his head. He was even more ecstatic when he received a letter inviting him to attend Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizarding on the day of his eleventh birthday. His father, who was still a little iffy on the whole magical world thing, but completely accepted it no matter, congratulated him while his mother broke down in joyous tears. The next month, his mother and father took him on a trip to Diagon Alley to get school supplies, and joined his father at goggling at all the wondrous objects in all the stores. At an Owlery, Dion picked out an Eagle owl that he named it Fin after the Irish folklore of Fin MacCumhail. He went to the wand shop last to get a red cedar and oak wand and then off to King’s Cross to catch his train to Hogwarts.
Dion’s first year was full of excitement. He was sorted into Gryffindor for, what the hat had said, “utter braveness with the intention of protecting others.” As a sports fan, he was marveled by the exquisite game of Quidditch and cheered on Gryffindor gleefully at every game and even painted his face red and gold for the Championships. He took great interest in learning magic and was an average student, but excelled in Transfiguration and Herbology, while finding History of Magic a bore like every other student. He easily made friends with mostly fellow Gryffindors, but other houses as well. He loved Hogwarts and when summer came along, he told his father all about the things he was learning and –mainly- about Quidditch.
After playing with his Muggle friends all summer and having to tell them that his parents had decided to send him to a private school – which confused them all considering Dion’s parents defiantly didn’t have enough money to be sending him to such a school – and quickly added that his Great Uncle had died and provided the family with money. He returned to Hogwarts. Concentrating on his studies to achieve good marks that his mother and father encouraged him to strive for. He did, discovering he also did a fairly well job at Defence Against the Dark Arts, and doing exceptionally well once again at Transfiguration and Herbology – whilst trying so desperately hard not to drift off in History of Magic.
At home after his 2nd year, his relationship with his father were starting to drowned. The only time they seemed to spend together was to watch soccer and football, and Dion felt like they were in two different worlds (and they literally were). But, anticipation peaked up when Dion’s 3rd year at Hogwarts started as the position as Gryffindor Keeper opened up and Dion tried out. His years of being a sports fan seemed to have paid off, and Dion did such a great job at try-outs that he almost instantly made the team. He was one of the most hardest workers at practices, and eventually became very good at defending the goal posts. However, his occupation in playing Quidditch brought his marks down to average once again, and brought disappointed to him family when he returned home for summer.
Frank, who was feeling just as far away from his son because of Dion’s magical discovery, decided he get him involved in more muggle-oriented activities. He brought Dion into the auto shop and taught him about cars, their parts, and little fixes here and there. He paid him for helping out around the shop and Dion went off to spend it at Diagon Alley to buy a whole lot of magical treats and objects. His 4th year at Hogwarts was much the same as his 3rd, spending much of his time practicing Quidditch. He also made sure to spend more time with friends and becoming closer to them. He remained an average student and when he returned home for the summer once again, his parents we’re getting use to his average marks and stop nagging him about academics. Dion hung out with muggle friends and worked at his dad’s auto shop for the rest of the summer, starting to show a rebellious side by disobeying his parents rules by staying out all night and other such things. Before he left to go to Hogwarts for his 5th year, he had a fight with his father consisting of being yelled at to get better grades and to start straightening up his act.
Dion spent his 5th year being angry with his father, and did the exact opposite of what he had been yelled at to do, despite his new position as prefect at Hogwarts. He let out all his frustration in Quidditch so that he would be able to do a good job at being prefect and handling his friends’ problems. He tried to ignore his emotions towards his father as much as he could, but he acted insubordinately against him by not trying very hard in school. His marks went down below average, and when the year ended and he returned home, he endured even more screams from his father. Dion was prohibited from working at the auto shop by his dad for his poor marks, which didn’t help the situation one bit. Dion became completely rebellious, and worried his parents by not coming home some nights. He began to fall in love with Punk music, and the fact that his group of muggle friends had became rebellious as well also didn’t help as many times they would vandalize all over the city just to have a good time. But such actions didn’t compare to the crime Dion would commit in the mid of August.
His father had caught Dion in the act of smashing a car window with his friends when he was on his way out of a Pub. A drunk – drinking had become a regular habit for Frank that summer – and angry Frank started yelling at Dion for being a failure as a son, and when Dion stepped up to Frank and said he was a failure as a father, he punched Dion in the face. With blood pouring from his mouth, Dion spit out a tooth in front of his father and walked away with his friend Tyler.
Dion was out of his mind, and swelling with hate. It wasn’t the need for money that brought him to a corner variety store, but a need to get back at his father in some way. With ski masks and two shotguns that Tyler stole from his father enact, they robbed the store. With money bunched in their pockets, they ran from the store as far as they could and even faster when they discovered that the cops were chasing them, and when Dion realized that their was no way they could escape, he distracted the cops by shooting a gun into the air so that Tyler could escape. He was condemned to Juvenile Prison for a year and a half. The extreme disappointment from his mother shattered him and he couldn’t even look his father in the eye. What was almost equally fateful was the fact that Dion was not to return to Hogwarts for his sixth year.
He spent most of his time in prison working out. The boys there were rough but his building figure kept him protected and intimidating. He didn’t converse much with others besides his cellmate, who got him cigarettes every once in a while. Cigarettes and working out were the only things that kept him at ease. The prison drove him insane, and the only way he could really express his thoughts to anyone was through letters to his friends at Hogwarts, which wouldn’t of been possible without the help of Fin, who mysteriously seemed to find Dion at times when they were outside (although Dion couldn’t help but think his mother had something to do with it). His mother and father (who still came despite what had happened), visited as much as they coul, Sema bringing her sweets along. Dion was completely disappointed and aggrieved with himself, and went into a strong depression. After over a year in prison (December, 200 , he was released early for good behaviour.
He felt like he was born again, and withstood through a strong transformation. The first day out of prison he got his tattoo from the money he had saved up over the years with Griffins to signify his strength and revolution. He resoluted to becoming a better person, and began making amends with his father. Dion’s rebellious past was wholly put behind him (although his smoking habbit wasn’t) and he promised himself and his parents that he would do well in school and would make himself a better person in and out. He wrote a long and deep letter to the Hogwart’s Headmaster about what had happen and his plan to change his ways, and through this, he was allowed back into Hogwarts and given back prefect’s position – only because Headmaster McGonagall agreed it would be best for him – and Keeper’s position – only because the Gryffindor team was having a hell of a time trying to find someone to replace him.

Roleplay Sample:
It was a week since Dion had been released from Juvey. He had taken the week to start fixing his relationship with his father and trying to figure out how the hell things were going to go at Hogwarts. How was he going to explain things? And what will his friends say? Will they shun him? No…they shouldn’t. He would never do something like that to them. But it was something that was a possibility. He had, naturally, been away from them for a year, so who knows how they might of changed. Who knows what could of gone on since then. The only knowledge he had from what had happened at Hogwarts for the past year was from the friends he wrote to. Thank god for them. Who knows how crazy he could have gone with out their assurance and support. But the fact that he had missed a full year with his friends was something Dion dearly regretted no matter what. He wished he could have been there to help them out with their problems, have fun with them, be there for them. But no…he just had to do something stupid. Utterly stupid. How in the hell could he have done something so stupid??
Dion’s arms were leaning him against the bathroom counter of his small, Dublin family house. His bulky arms sticking out from the white tank top he was wearing. It was late at night, around 3 o’clock in the morning, and he was smoking a cigarette. Breathing it in and out to extinguish his worry, his stress. He looked at himself in the mirror. Hating the things he did. Wishing to take back the mistakes. But it was done. It was past. And it was time to change, for the better.
Dion looked at his messy shine of brown locks atop his head. One of the features he knew had attracted a few girls to him. He ran his fingers through his locks and threw his cigarette in the toilet. Emotionally he was already changing. He could fell it. He wanted to be a better person for others. To be a good friend. To protect as many people as he could. He owed it to them for the time he had missed. But there was no way he could physically show it. There was his tattoo, yes, and it was something he was so glad he had gotten, but he still looked the same. Same old Dion he always saw, only now with some markings on his arm. He needed to alter his appearance. Change something. And he knew exactly what it should be.
Picking up an electric razor from the countertop, Dion turned it on. And took a little time to listen to it mechanically hum, in no way stepping away from what he was about to do. He pulled his hair back and ran the sharp blades slowly from the front of his head to the back. A bit of hair fell unto the floor. One bit of past was being removed. Dion continued shaving, more dead cells of the past being let go from his mind, until all of his hair had been completely shaven and the last year or so was put behind him, or rather, on the floor around him. He turned off the razor and smoothed his hands around his head. It was actually a pretty good look for him.
He grinned and brushed off the hair on his shirt. That was it. He was ready. He was ready to head back to Hogwarts. He would pack right now and leave tomorrow. This year would be better. Even though he knew he would have to be stuck in sixth year classes, and would have to stay an extra year, he was so happy to return to the school. It was his second home, where all his friends were. Where so many good memories laid. And Quidditch! Oh dear Quidditch. How great it would be to jump back on his broomstick and fly.
Dion swept the bits of hair into his hands and dumped them into the toilet to flush down with the cigarette, and made his way to his room as the thoughts of all the great things that would return to him when he returned to the castle filled his mind. All the things that he would get to experience again in the magical world. He will hug all his friends. He will give them great bear hugs – while keeping in mind to not crush them to death. Heck, he would even give Headmaster McGonagall a big one. Thank the old woman.
And as Dion laughed at the vision of McGonagall’s reaction to such a thing, he realized that he had everything he needed packed. He heard a tap on his bedroom window and opened it to let Fin fly in. He lightly pet his cheek and gave him a treat, “Great ol’ Fin,” Dion’s Irish tongue rolled. He had much to owe to Fin for being his letter carrier the whole time he had been…away. And it almost looked as if the owl was expecting him to have another letter at the ready to send to his friends at Hogwarts. But he decided not to. He wanted it to be a surprise. See their reactions and analyze them, try to understand what they though of him now. As an ex-convict. Would they regnoize him without his hair? Of coure. But without his aspiring reputation he had before? That he couldn’t tell. All he could do was what til’ tomorrow. Actually…he’d have to wait longer than that. It was still Christmas break and surely many of his friends would be gone. It would kill him to have to wait to see them, but he did need the time to start studying. Start trying to catch up with everything he missed in class. Oh…there would be so much to catch up on, but he could do it. Once he entered the great castle, he’d be in total concentration mode, and nothing could stop him until everything was settled.
He could do it though. He could feel it. And now he could see it. The shaven haired reflection that was staring back at him from the mirror. He was someone who was ready to change, to become a better man, and to make things better for everyone. Dion turned off his lights and jumped onto his bed. His eyes staring at the ceiling, the only thought running through him was, “God I can’t wait til’ to get back into that damn school.”
