Do Your Desires Control You?
The Holy Qur'an tells us, Seest thou such a one as taketh for his god his own passion (or impulse)? Couldst thou be a disposer of affairs for him? [Surah Al Furqan (25):43] We must be careful that we do not allow our desires and passions to consume us, to govern our actions or dictate our commitment to Islam. The Holy Prophet warns us, "But when you see niggardliness being obeyed, passion being followed, worldly interests being preferred, everyone being charmed with his opinion, then care for yourself, and leave alone what people in general are doing..." Let us not be corrupted by the desires, passions and impulses of this world. Struggle against them. Control them during Ramadan - conquer them after Ramadan. Your thoughts?

Re: Do Your Desires Control You?
Asalam alaikum
To me, someone who has controlled and conquered his/her desires has reached a very good state, Masha'allah to them

Always remembering Allah with words such as subhanallah wa bihamdihi subhanallah il'adhim, allahu akbar, etc. will keep you controlled.
Practicing good virtues will help further in this struggle of conquering your desires.
Reading Quran and hadith is, in my opinion, the best way to almost eliminate worldly desires. (if one has a quran and maybe some book[s] on hadith or sirah). Reading the Riyad-us-Saliheen hadith books (compiled by Imam An-Nawawi and commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf) helped me greatly in this struggle.
