Documents printing as default action
K, somehow, all of my wordpad documents now, when i double click them, start to print. I have a networked computer, so that i means I can't cancel the print job from this computer, and I have to go walk to my other one to cancel it. Anyway, I can right click and open them, but that's just tedious, and I accidentally print so many items that it's becoming a hassle. When I right click, the first option, in bold, is print. Does anyone know how I can change this back to open?
I think it might've happened after I installing textpad, so I uninstalled that and restarted, but it didn't change anything. Also, I have a pirated copy of XP, so no MS word/office for me, I have to make due with Word Pad :( This doesn't occur at all with my notepad items, soley documents that open with wordpad by default.
Open explorer
Tools
Folder Options
File Types tab
Scroll and locate the "doc" extension
Click advanced button
Click to highlight the "Open"
Click the default button

open isn't one of the options, the only options are print and printto.

Hmmm, it sounds like something removed your default "Open" command, so it's defaulting to the next thing, one of the Print commands...
Try right-clicking on one of the files. Choose "Open With" then "Choose Program". That should let you pick the program you want to use to open it, and there should be an option to always do that (reset the default action).
Re: Documents printing as default action
Tried what Bill suggested, twice, didn't work. Tried what Aidden suggested, to the exact letter (With the exception of the file path), and it comes up with an error everytime i try to open a doc file now. Also, when I go back to re-edit, it places a %1 after the /dde part, doesn't work intentionally leaving in the %1 or taken out.
Oh and that Open, in bold, wasn't there before, I created it from what Aidden showed. It had a &Open before, but then that's how it showed up on the right click, plus it didn't work.
Re: Documents printing as default action
Turn off the DDE checkbox, and in the path put the path to wordpad.exe in quotes as you have above, remove the /n /dde and put %1
Now when I go to open, it says C Documents cannot find this file. And if I create a new .doc and open it, the default option is still Print. And when I go back to edit it, it somehow clicked "use DDE", and filled in the name of hte program and system. If I delete it and start a new "open" command, and go back to edit it, it does the same thing. Dunno if that's intentional or not.
*cries* I'm downloading that open office program for now, we'll see how that works.

Re: Documents printing as default action
I know some actions I've added have automagically added DDE info. It might look at the program and figure it out. *shrug* I wouldn't worry too much about it though.
I have no clue why this change doesn't seem to want to take though. I have Office installed also, so I can't just give you the actual stuff I use...
