Dragon Hoards, Packrat Stashes and Gryph Eyries
Since it is trying to be the topic of the 'tales' thread, I figured I'd start a new one. What do you hoard, if anything? Why do you hoard, and why those particular things? No hoard? Anyone live like a monk without material posessions?

I hoard books, music, knowledge, stuffed animals, pretty shiny thingies, rocks and dead things.

I am exceptionally protective of all this stuff. Rarrrr.

I am wary of letting other people read my books because they might crease the spine. Yes, I'm awful. I take care of them and lovingly dote. I hate creases, bent covers, fingerprints -- it's all so stressful! Not all my books are perfect, of course (a rat ate part of the cover of my Changeling: The Dreaming, and my The Last Unicorn and Tailchaser's Song are positively dog-eared), but I do endeavor to keep them beautiful and healthy and happy.

My rocks are both displayed and put away in boxes. I like to play with them, look at them, water them (they change colors!) and make things shiny with them. I have mostly semi-precious stones, such as agate and flourite, plain ol' river stones, and a few precious stones, like a bitty emerald and a bitty ruby. I'm more interested in the semi-precious, though. I also have a coprolite necklace. Hehe.

My music collection is in various formats. I absolutely love to music pimp -- introduce people to new types of music, get them hooked on new songs or artists. It gives me a thrill to trade music with people.

I'm awful about accumulating worthless knowledge. Well, no knowledge is worthless, but knowledge that doesn't apply to anything in my life. I love to learn. Watch documentary channels, read reference books, whatever magazines come across my path, and so on. I retain it fairly well, not perfectly, but well enough that I'm known for going off about any random topic people might bring up when I get all excited about it. Things like volcanoes or the best way to sit to pee. I mean, really. People make fun of me for it all the time. I just love knowledge. I can't stand to be ignorant about something, it drives me bonkers. I'm a research fanatic.

Stuffed animals, I've kept all I've had since I was a baby, pretty much, and get new ones all the time. I have lots of various critters, I'm not particularly picky, though of course I love Dragon and mythic stuffed animals, and any weird ones (stuffed scorpions or octopi or what-have-you), and any that are correct representations of particular animals (say, a grevy's zeeb with the right markings rather than a generic zebra with randomly airbrushed stripes).

Shiny things, I especially like silver. I have no gold or bronze or other yellow metals. They're the anti-shiny for me. I don't like them much at all (except perhaps in a correct color scheme). I have tons of Dragon statues, gryph statues, random-other-paintings-and-statues and other pretty things.

Finally, dead things. That's probably the weirdest of the things I hoard, and I know how people might get squicked out. I collect bones and so on -- always found or given to me as gifts, never bought or hunted. I usually find them in the woods when I'm walking. I have deer, cats, coyote, nutria, elk, bat, birds, etc. etc. I think they are gorgeous and to me, they show how beautiful and exquisite natural engineering is. It just blows me away.

Re: Dragon Hoards, Packrat Stashes and Gryph Eyries
I have a reputation for hoarding books. I ran out of room on my bookshelves, piled some more in my closet til those shelves were full, adn now books are spilling over into my desk and bedside table. And on top of the books on the shelves! I hoard mostly Fantasy, I think because evry once in awhile I need to escape from this world, and imagine myself in another. Plus its just fun sometimes.
I also hoard stuffed animals, for some reason, but I started running out of room for them too, and so now I actually think if I'm really going to do anything with a stuffed animal besides throw it in my closet, and then decide whether or not I want it still. They are just so comforting to squeeze when you are upset!
I have lots of random arty stuff. Those little paintable plaster of paris figures, I have a few of those, a painted feather, some little kachinas, and some fetishes on a shelf with other odds and ends.
And plants. Yes, I hoard plants. My mom gives one up for dead and I take it to the bathroom me and my brother share and put it on the counter where it gets lots of light and get all healthy again, at which point it stays in the bathroom, or it goes on my desk. I have a mini Rose plant on my sdesnk, and the Boston Fern in the bathroom. It attacks my brother with its leaves. Tis funny. And then there are the plants outside that I water and watch out for and make sure they stay healthy. I honestly don't know why I hoard them. They make me happy, I guess.

Thanks to Una for the nifty sig. pic! *hugs*
My soul-sisters, ya keep me flying, or are there to catch me when I fall. And my Fighting Sisters, may we all fly in free skies again!

Knowledge, "usless tivia" though I am not Jeporday contestant by far, and such as that tend to stick in my brain better then what i was suspoedly to learn while in school. :P

Like the pineapples on top of Classic Revoltuionary antique four poster beds. Those come off the top of the posts and were used to tell house guests how long they had before they were completely unwelcome. ;) hehehe

Books, music, dvds and the such, more so then anything else.

I've started on computer parts at this point, and I don't like throwing out anything that could be made useful. ;)

I have boxes and crates of thinsg that could easily fill a house for "decoration", but I don't have a place of my own to decorate.., so they gather dust ;)

heh

Weeeeell, let's see. You already know about the books/movies/music. I have too many stuffed animals, although I'm trying to cut back on those -- these days the only ones I buy are dragons and snakes or ones that are just too cute to resist. Darnit!

I used to collect seashells, but that's slacked off some. Likewise, I've a minihoard of rocks, minerals and fossils which I have no good place to display. *pout*

Glass. It's all sparkly and purdy and colorful and ... *drool* Stained/art glass especially, although the only bit of stained glass I have (yet!!) is a little green windchime made of scrap panes. Likewise, I haven't got a good place for it -- right now it's all sitting up on my bookshelves getting dusty. I want a shelf in front of a window, or uplit, or something... oh, and I have a handful of gas lamps that I'm also going to lump in this category, because I gravitate toward the glass ones rather than the porcelain ones. :)

Nifty candleholders (some of which could also go under the 'glass' grouping, but some are metal or stone or pottery)

Art supplies. :P

I *WILL* hoard antiques, when I have room... or at least, I'll try to furnish my lair with some important ones, and get new stuff that looks old. I like for things to have history.

And of course I have the requisite little stash of dragon figures and things ... along with some dolphins and a few turtles and misc other critters.

I don't hoard much, do I? :D

... but, if you boil it all down, it comes to just a few broad groupings: light (candles/gaslamps, and sparklies, which must have light to sparkle, duh!), and stories (music tells stories, eh? history (ie, fossils) IS a story) ... and the dragons, etc., just because.

*grins a bit, reading the title* Well....I have....*thinks* A 'Campie's stash.....ENTIRELY different. XD

Seriously, I hoard SoBe bottles, Breyer horses, and packs of matches. I love the cute little lizards pictured on the front of the SoBe bottles, they're just toooo adorable. I think I have them all now...at least...until they come out with more. XD *grins*

I received my first Breyer collectable when I was young, it was a Christmas present from my godparents. ^_^ (must <3 godparents.) It was the gift pack of the stallion, the mare, and the colt....I stepped on the mare and broke her poor leg. :-( *sob* I stil lhave the stallion and the colt, though! ^_^ My favorite Breyer is my Breyer moose...I begged and begged for that beautiful model. *sighs dreamily* I love moose.

As for the matches...I don't know. I just always have collected them. XP - Una

Re: Dragon Hoards, Packrat Stashes and Gryph Eyries
A chance to discuss hoard items! Weehee! :D *wiggle*

As I live in the city, I'll often find pigeon, seagull, and crow feathers on the street, possibly after their owners had a nasty incident with a cat or car. >< I'll pick up any feathers in decent condition I find on the ground or elsewhere and ferret them away in my room.

I, like so many others it seems, also like to collect shiny rocks. I have a small pile of quartz stones found in driveway gravel, some pieces of fluorite I snitched from a disused sewing box in the basement, some random pebbles, a large piece of blue beach glass... I'd have to go into throes of joy if a rocks and minerals store opened up near me.

I have a small collection of dragon statuettes and items found in dollar stores and other random places. Mostly they're plastic, but I do have a small red-brown guy made of some sort of porcelain/glass I recieved for Christmas and a larger pewter dude from a previous birthday.

And, probably the oddest hoard items I own, are the huge amounts of random papers I have flying around. Mostly it's old doodles of mine, which are quite amusing to leaf through and laugh about, but there is a good quantity of printed sheets of other's art, stories, and random information. Oh, I also collect friends' art. ^^() Any doodle sheets I can get my hands on go into my hoard.

Re: Dragon Hoards, Packrat Stashes and Gryph Eyries
I didn't know if I had anything to add to this section, seeing as how what I -do- have stashed is in pretty small amounts... though halloween candy seems to build up, strangely enough... (*chuckles*)

About the only thing that I keep lots and lots of is paper. I don't know where it all comes from, from what things, it just builds and builds into nice little piles all over my floor. Almost like some kind of paper-faerie popped in over night...

What, about 5 seperate stacks now? I've looked through them and found everything from year(s) old doodles to old paystubs to pictures I've copied out to just look at, to material that I might use in the future (woo for scratchboard!) Usually there's something important buried in one pile or another, but the fact that they're piles tends to make it difficult for anyone (including me) to find what I'm looking for. I guess it's just some kind of modern labyrinth... ever dragon needs one of those. ;)

Re: Dragon Hoards, Packrat Stashes and Gryph Eyries
Hee. I collect lots of stuff.

Zoids. You know, those animal mechs from the anime series, originally a toyline of the 80's? I have a small army of them. Redler (the purple dragon), Mosasledge (the mosasaur), and Lightning Saix (the cheetah) are right by the computer monitor, while Konig Wolf (the large white wolf) and Berserk Fury (the lavender tyrannosaur) are on the other desk. More out in the living room, and even more back in Montana with my Mom. o.O

Beanie babies. Ugh, I need to get rid of some. But really, how often do you find a cute and affordable red panda beanie or plush? Ty makes some cute stuff, really, and I prefer the newer ones. Slowly selling some of them on eBay.

Plushies. I love plushies (but not in the plushophile sense). Wolves, snow leopards, hyenas, dragons, owls, cats, Stitch, and recently a SeaWorld manatee. I name them, too. When Eclipse is away and I'm in bed alone, it's my big floppy wolf that I cuddle.

Shinies. *giggles* Yes, I collect shinies. But what I mean by that is iridescent stuff. I'm attracted to anything the color of ludrakoni scales, I have to admit, so I have prisms, moonstones, ribbons, wrapping paper, and suchlike that has prismatic, iridescent, pearlescent, or even just pastel coloration. My prize right now is a nautilus shell with the outer enamel sanded away to reveal the pearlescence within. Naryu bought it for me (the sweetheart!) at Shell World in Kissimmee.

Books, of course. Eclipse and I have a rather massive collection already, and I brought barely any of my library with when I moved in with him. Most of my Lackey books are still in Montana. *hrrumphs*

Other than that, I'm obsessive-compulsive and I hate the idea of throwing something out that I might later want or need, even if it's been sitting at the back of a closet for years and never crossed my mind until I unearthed it. o.O

Re: Dragon Hoards, Packrat Stashes and Gryph Eyries
I hoard EVERYTHING....chances are if you name it, it is somewhere within my Lair. I am extremely protective over anything with a dragon on it...some of it dates back to my first plush dragons and pocket dragons from the mid 80s, so my lips will curl back into a growl if anyone even looks at them funny ;) I am also protective of my collection of Sonic the Hedgehog stuff, which stopped growing a couple years ago (RIP Sega ;.;) .

Other stuff? Books, new and old..stuffed animals from my mother's childhood up until now, tons of boardgames, prety rocks and gems and shiny things (tons of that..), lots of toys, lots of clothes, lots of newspaper, lots of bird stuff, wolf stuff, whale stuff...thousands of sketches and pictures people have drawn for me, sketch books, school note books. Everything. I just don't throw anything away..aand I collect to much stuff!

I guess it's sort of a dragon/mythic beast thing, huh? ;)

I've quite a large pile of coins, from all over the world...
I seem to be yet another creature unable to resist the urge to hoard shiny things }:>
Of course, not all of my coins are shiny, some of them are from the middle ages, but most are relatively new as old coins are usually too expensive for me...

I also collect non-material things: knowledge, music, pictures...
Eg. I have 89 versions of "Popcorn", the song originally made by Hot Butter in the 1970s, later imitated by others including Jean Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk.
And I have a collection of heraldic gryphons - I found 306 places in the world where gryphons are the emblems. This collection is online now, if you're interested just follow this link: 212.182.88.67/~marivs/gitw/

I have 92 versions now, as I've recently found ones by Aphex Twins, Dj Mystik And Dj Epic, and a techno mix by an unknown artist.
