Elijah Goodwyn
OOC
Name: Alena
Contacts: This is getting old. Everyone knows already.
Age: 16
Code: Hermione Granger
IC
Name: Elijah Goodwyn
Nickname(s): Eli
DOB: April 22, 1985
Blood: Mixed (Yet raised as a muggleborn)
Previous School/House: Hufflepuff
Occupation: Auror / Member of Order of the Phoenix (eventually...once someone invites him.)
Physical Appearance: Eli was one of those early bloomers. The kind that shoot up like a bean sprout at twelve years old, and look awkwardly taller than everyone else. Fortunately for him, everyone started growing up soon enough, so while 6'2" was still tall, he didn’t look like a New York sky scraper compared to everyone else. It took him until after he graduated from Hogwarts to start filling out. After, he started working out more, trying to fill the “rough tough Auror” image. Since then, he’s developed a fairly muscular physique, which he takes great pride in. This pride is what keeps him motivated to run and work out on a daily basis. Due to this build, he weighs in at approximately 185 pounds.
His hair is kept rather short, seeing as he looks like a hippy whenever it grows long, and is a medium brown shade, like a sort of milk chocolate color. He has a strong, defined jaw line, occasionally covered with stubble, but usually shaved clean. His lips are a soft pinkish color, with no noticeable rose in the center of the top lip, giving the upper lip a simple arch shape. He almost always has a smile on his face, with a dimple on each cheek. His eyes are dark brown and extremely expressive, reflecting appropriately upon the situation and his mood. He’s been known for having a killer evil glare, but he usually only uses it in jest, seeing as he’s not one to anger easily, or to show that he’s upset for that matter.
If there’s one thing that you can know from the instant that you meet Eli, it’s that he’s a complete and utter klutz. He’s been known to trip over cracks in the sidewalk, carpet, his own feet, his shoelaces, stairs, anything you can imagine. He cannot be trusted to carry large stacks of anything, seeing as he’ll manage to drop everything, leaving it scattered all over the floor. He’s tried everything he can think of to kick the habit of being klutzy, but nothing’s worked. Finally, he came to the conclusion that his klutziness must be due to his big hands and feet. They’re probably just too big for the rest of his body, and do everything they can to disrupt his balance and capability to use fine motor skills.
Eli is extremely picky about the clothes that he wears. This can be established whilst shopping at a department store, which he usually does with his mother (she’s the only one that can make him buy new clothing) in which he refuses to buy a single thing. He would rather wear an old, worn out band tee that he likes (with lovely holes and all) rather than buy a new shirt that looks like rubbish. His usual style is casual, the aforementioned band tees consuming the majority of his closet, coupled with old worn out jeans. As far as he’s concerned, new ones aren’t comfortable enough. One summer home from Hogwarts, he even ran over a pair of jeans with his father’s truck to try and wear them in a bit more. His mother wasn’t pleased.
Personality: Eli’s goal is to live his life in the most light-hearted and fun way possible. He likes to joke around, mess around, and play around whenever possible, whether to ease tension or to just have a good time. Thanks to this desire for fun, Eli is extremely non-confrontational, and would rather avoid problems and forget about them rather than trying to fix things. If something’s truly bothering Eli, people usually have to force it out of him in some way or another, because he’s not likely to spill it on his own time. When it reaches this extreme, Eli has a tendency to just wander away from what bothers him. If someone is driving him crazy, he’ll just find a way to make sure he’s somewhere else rather than around them. Confrontation equals fighting which equals no fun anymore. Eli would rather avoid his problems, and create an aura of a carefree, lighthearted demeanor.
In other situations where he’s not the one with the problem, Eli takes on the role of the peace maker. He’ll quickly jump into the situation and put himself on the line just to try and stop the negative vibes from flying all over the place. This can get him in trouble every now and then, but when that happens, he’ll try to make peace again, only more toward himself this time. If this results in more artillery fire, he’ll just run away like he does with the rest of his problems.
For the most part, Eli’s rather outgoing, not being afraid of walking up to someone he doesn’t know and starting a conversation. His natural people pleasing abilities make it easy to strike up interest. Another essential truth about Eli is that he has a genuine love for females. Ever since his first girlfriend in his third year, he’s admired them, loved them, adored them, and wanted them. Thus, he is somewhat of a natural flirt. Perhaps natural isn’t the best way to describe it, seeing as everything he knows was taught to him by his older sister when she was on maternity leave. Heart break has made him wary to get involved past a certain point, but it doesn’t stop him from loving life and flirting it up.
Another one of his worse habits is that he will always say what he thinks others want to hear. This is him being non-confrontational. Trying to avoid setting off a conversation in the wrong direction, having it lead to somewhere unpleasant, and then being forced to part ways is what it’s all about for him. He does have a firm set of opinions and beliefs, but he’ll only reveal those to people very close to him. In essence, he is rather closed off and difficult to get to know, because for a long time, your encounters will consist of false beliefs and false conversation topics, false this, false that. Eli doesn’t do it to get attention, because he thinks his life isn’t interesting enough, or because he thinks people will hate him, it’s more so of self preservation. If everything is always going negatively, he knows that he won’t be able to stand it. Thus, he must create as many positive relationships as possible.
Once you get Eli to open up and create a bond of trust, he will be loyal till death do you part. Going back on a promise, betraying trust, or stabbing someone’s back are considered the most heinous acts in the world. Eli would never even dream of it, and if you accuse him of doing such, that’s when he starts to express extreme passion. Because he is passionate to maintaining a close bond of trust, and not betraying that. If someone turns the tables and does it to him, he gets deeply offended, and is known to isolate himself for a certain period of time, waiting it out to see if it’s worth brushing over and ignoring, or confronting the other person. Usually, it’s ignoring not only the problem but the person themself. To him, this action speaks louder than any words he could ever say.
Many people were surprised when Eli chose to enter the field as an auror. To them, it seemed far more confrontational than Eli would ever be in his life, and in a sense, that’s part of the reason that he chose it. He knew that through the field, he would be expected to fight, expected to perform duties against people that had violated the laws of the wizarding world. Now, he could hide behind his profession. He hadn’t hexed that man because he wanted to, but because his job required him to. It was sort of a release, allowing him to act differently than he had for his entire life. He could be assertive and domineering, and no one could question why. He’s always been insanely curious about what it was like to be an auror during the second war, but since his employment, the only cases he’s dealt with were people against people. Common problems of people trying to be bad ass and cool. But with the rise of another war, Eli knows this is soon going to change, and in all honestly, he’s scared to death by that thought.

History: Elijah Ryan Goodwyn was born on April 22, 1985 to Alicia May Goodwyn in a small muggle hospital in Kent. Alicia May was only sixteen years old, without the faintest idea of who the father was. Her parents were at a loss of what to do with her. She had been a “good little girl” until she entered her teenage years, which was when the sexual promiscuity began. She knew she didn’t want to raise her son, and immediately handed it over to her parents. They were used to a house full of children, what with their 6 other children, excluding Alicia May. Her parents agreed to take the baby boy, but in return, sent her to a boarding school for girls in Berkshire, hoping it would work some sense and order into her. Before she left, however, she christened the baby Elijah Ryan Goodwyn.
Growing up in a house full of children was no easy task. Especially when they were all his aunts and uncles, and were consciously aware of this fact. The age difference helped a little, seeing as Eliza moved out when Eli was four years old, Marcus when he was six, and Angelina when he was eight. Angelina, Taylor, Morgan, and Howie were the closest to him. Taylor loved dragging him around everywhere when he was a tiny tot, playing dress up with him (usually frilly pink outfits that made him look like he was experiencing a gender crisis) and forcing him to withstand horrid tea parties and games of house. He was always the baby in house, and Taylor was his mother. Which explains why Eli’s first word, “Mommy” was directed toward Taylor. Henry and Ruth Ann panicked, fearing that Eli would grow up thinking a ten year old was his mother, and forced Taylor to stop the games of house.
As he got older, and Taylor entered the world of a young adult, she became the coolest person in the world. Like her sister, she had somewhat of a bad streak, and Eli caught her behind the house smoking cigarettes at least twice a week. Taylor told him to keep it “their little secret” and Eli was satisfied with that. Having a little secret with Taylor meant that she had placed him in a position of trust, and therefore Eli could come to Taylor with any problems he ever had. At age six, however, Taylor turned fourteen, and started going steady with some boy from school. Taylor had been in relationships before, but this time, she claimed it was serious. Taylor became moody and unbearable, and was consistently picking fights with Angelina, then sixteen. The yelling and screaming drove Eli crazy, sometimes scaring him to the point of tears. So many a times, he would butt in and try to distract them. Taylor grew furious with him, seeing as she was usually the one that initiated the fights, but Angelina grew to respect and appreciate him for it. Angelina became closer to him, and she was much more kind toward him than Taylor had been as of late. Taylor had started to criticize him for being “weak” and “lame” because he was never assertive unless it meant pushing himself into other people’s businesses.
But the actuality of the fact was that Eli felt at a disadvantage compared to the rest of his “siblings”. He knew that Alicia May was his mother, and he had only met her a few times before she eloped with a man named Bryan Roland, moving to America to live their lives in the home of the brave. The rest of them, they were his aunts and uncles, and they were all related. He was ousted from the rest of his family, but he never cared to tell his parents, or grandparents really, how he felt. It wasn’t worth it to him, because all they would do was try and force everyone to treat him with respect. He didn’t want to be a “special” case anymore. He just wanted to fit in.
Once Angelina graduated and moved out to go to University, coming back only in the summer, Eli forged close relationships with Morgan and Howie. The three of them, ages eight, twelve, and fourteen, became a triple threat. They ran around together, spent all their time together, wreaked havoc together, and drove nearly everyone in Kent crazy together. But this closeness evaporated when Morgan turned sixteen, and became too cool to spend his time with a ten year old and a fourteen year old. Howie and Eli decided to bind closer together, becoming the best of friends. Since Howie was only four years older than Eli, he felt as if he was at less of a disadvantage, seeing as no one in their right mind could be an uncle at age four.
The summer after he turned eleven, however, his whole life changed. Eli never knew who his father was, and neither did his parents or Alicia May. What was soon to be uncovered was that he was from a completely different world, one they didn’t even know existed. He was a wizard, and had attending Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And now, a letter came by means of an owl to tell Eli that he was to attend the most famous wizarding school in the world, under Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. Eli was shocked out of his wits, and initially didn’t want to go. He and Howie were friends, best friends. He didn’t want to leave that and take a chance to never bond with someone as closely. But his parents talked him into it, and before he knew it, he was on his way to Hogwarts by means of the Hogwarts Express.
Once he arrived at Hogwarts, he was sorted like the rest of the students. He found his home in the house of Hufflepuff. For the first few weeks he was extremely intimidated by the masses of students, many who knew all about magic and what they were doing. And worse, they all seemed to know each other too. Sitting alone in silence didn’t fit Eli, so he eventually put himself out on a limb to make friends. His first victim was Owen Collins, a fellow first year Hufflepuff that shared a dorm with Eli. Owen was an extremely disagreeable boy, with enough opinions and judgements to make up for Eli’s lack of them. Eli pretended to agree with him on everything, which pleased Owen. But his issues on friendship were certainly of the very least importance, it seemed. Toward the end of the term, Albus Dumbledore was killed by his Potions professor, Severus Snape. There were rumors of the sixth year boy Draco Malfoy leading a siege with the Death Eaters. What ended up happening to him, Eli never knew. All he had heard was that several older students as well as many Ministry Officials took part in a battle against the Death Eaters at the school.
In his second year, Owen betrayed his trust by revealing Eli’s deepest secret (that his mother had abandoned him at birth and he had been raised by his grandparents, aunts and uncles) to the rest of his dormitory. Eli was furious, but never let anyone in on it. Instead he stopped spending time with Owen, and threw himself into other things. School work, and quidditch. He made a few friends from Ravenclaw during his prolonged library study sessions, and thus became what people perceived as a nerd. “That Eli Goodwyn should have been sorted into Ravenclaw. What a brain.” It didn’t bother Eli too much, seeing as he at least had friends. But after a few months with them, he realized they didn’t suit him at all, really. They liked to indulge himself in knowledge. He liked to indulge himself in trust and closeness, like the relationships he had once had with Angelina and Taylor. Again, his friendship issues were of less importance. Lord Voldemort was raising in power exponentially. It seemed as though no one could stop him, until the day of triumph that Harry Potter defeated Lord Voldemort for once and for all. The wizarding world was in celebration, and even though Eli had only experienced the tragedy and pain for two years, he had reason to celebrate as well.
The summer after his second year, Angelina came home to announce that she was getting engaged with a man named Andrew Covington, a fellow she had met at University. In her wedding, she wanted Eliza to be her maid of honor, and Eli to be the ring bearer. This erupted a whole new dispute in the family, seeing as Taylor considered it a personal insult to not be chosen as the maid of honor. She was still selected as a bride’s maid, but she sulked through the entire ceremony, and only smiled in the wedding pictures when her parents threatened to cut her off financially for the rest of her life. The tension frustrated and annoyed Eli, so Howie, then sixteen, suggested a new activity to engage in for fun.
At weddings, anyone can get a drink. Howie took advantage of Eli’s naivete and innocence, and had a high old time watching him stagger around under the influence. Unfortunately, Henry and Ruth Ann found out, and Howie was grounded for the next six months of his life. (“What were you even THINKING, Howard?! Giving your little brother, no, your NEPHEW, alcohol! You are not going to see the light of day for the next six months! You are GROUNDED!”)
So Eli perceived himself as a “changed man” when he entered his third year. He had experienced the effects of alcohol on the human body, and recounted the story to everyone in his dormitory, including Owen. Owen grew quite bitter that Eli had the experience before he did, but kept his silence, realizing that it would probably be best to try and reconcile their friendship now that Eli was, in essence, cooler than Owen was. With this new adjustment, Eli felt much more comfortable in their friendship (surprisingly trusting Owen with a second chance) and no longer pretended to like everything that Owen did, or conform to Owen’s opinions.
Owen’s jealousy toward Eli continued to grow, especially when Eli received his first kiss from a fourth year Hufflepuff girl who thought Eli was the most amiable and likeable boy around. Being older and more mature, she had of course made the moves on Eli, he simply reacted in awe. Her name was Kelly, and they started to date a few weeks later after a few closet snog sessions. But when the end of third year came, they decided to break up for the summer, playing it by ear when they got back to school in September.
Back at home, Howie had just graduated, and was keeping himself busy all summer at parties and keggers. Luckily for Eli, Angelina was on maternity leave from work, and spent a lot of her time at the Goodwyn residence, not wanting to sit at home like a lump alone. Angelina decided to make it her job to teach Eli everything about dating. Dating 101. Sex Ed 300. He asked questions, she answered them with complete honesty. She educated him on exactly how he should treat a female, so he would never make the mistake of falling into the category that girls call “ass holes.”
Eli went back for his fourth year with this knew knowledge and a grin on his face, ready to conquer the world of females. School still held some precedence, yes, but he was eager to try out all the methods of wooing girls that Angelina had taught him to see if they would actually work. Victim number one. Elena Kayson, Hufflepuff third year. He complimented her, admired her, winked at her when he passed in the halls, reserved a beaming smile just for her... And soon, rumor had it that Elena was head over heels for him. Angelina’s tips had actually worked! Oh the pride and arrogance that this unleashed. The boys of his dormitory asked him what his secret was, and he passed it off saying that you just understood females when you grew up with three older sisters. His teachers, however, were somewhat less than impressed by his consistent flirting in class, and demanded some form of order from him.
He complied, and finally asked Elena out so the chase was over, and they could do things like study together, go on walks together, snog in public together, all the works of teenage dating. Owen resented Eli even more for it, still working on getting Eli’s ex girlfriend Kelly to go on a date to Hogsmeade with him. Unfortunately for Owen, Kelly was still secretly smitten with Eli. She just didn’t want to admit to wanting a boy that was dating a girl younger than her.
Now that he was with Elena, he kicked his studies into gear, and come his fifth year, he and Elena were awarded with Prefect positions. Together they asserted their authority and kept the house of Hufflepuff under control. But a few minor arguments lead them to decide that a break up was best, and Eli quickly began to scout for another prospective girlfriend. His thirty second rebound rate infuriated Elena, and the two had a falling out, losing their friendship as well. It upset Eli, yes, but he was willing to move on. He didn’t move on into another relationship, but instead satisfied himself with one night snog sessions and then deciding to stay friends so they didn’t ruin their initial relationship. He was the “big scorer” for the Hufflepuff fifth years, and he was proud of it.
In his sixth year, however, he got involved with Kelly once again. She confessed her feelings once again, seeing as it was her last year at Hogwarts, and the two began to date again. After six months, Eli caught her cheating with a Gryffindor boy. Eli was heart broken, and dissolved into a world of self pity, barricading himself in his dormitory working on nothing but homework. His grades improved, but anyone that knew Eli knew that he was extremely unhappy. Kelly tried to reconcile with him, apologizing profusely and swearing that it was the first and only time it would ever happen, but Eli ignored her. He wanted to have nothing to do with her. This situation, however, benefitted him in one way. He became Head Boy, a feat he never thought would be possible.
He laid low on the dating scene for his seventh year, never dating anyone at all. He had interest in small one night hook ups, but nothing more than that. He didn’t want to create an opportunity for someone to hurt him again, and thus avoided getting close to girls. He claimed it was because he had his career to worry about, now that he had decided upon becoming an Auror. And he was very bent on achieving his goal, working endless hours toward getting good NEWT scores to be accepted into the Auror department. Come graduation, he achieved his goal, and began the three year journey toward becoming an Auror.
His strength in spell casting helped him greatly, but his klutziness brought him down, particularly in stealth and secrecy. In fact he took the test four times before finally passing it. Now he works a steady job as an auror, taking care of small issues the majority of the time. Now that the Death Eaters are alive and kicking now, however, his fear is starting to grow.
Roleplay Sample: What a week. That’s all that Eli could ever say to sum it up. People were turning out to be downright idiotic. The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts department must have been having a terrible time with it all. People attacking muggles by enchanting muggle devices to attack other muggles. The Misuse of Muggle Artifacts came in to restore the muggle’s memories and deal with them, but the Aurors had to hunt down the people themselves, and make sure justice was served.
If another person made a regurgitating toilet that had a tendency to swallow people, Eli was probably going to kill himself. What was the bloody trend with those nowadays anyways? Eli was supposed to be a dark wizard catcher, and Auror. Not some daycare assistant that slaps little boys on the hands when they don’t play nice with their peers. But they hadn’t heard much from the Death Eaters since December, which was always a good sign, but it was quite frightening all the same. It was like a calm before the storm. They were biding their time while formulating vindictive and terrible plans to wreak havoc on the wizarding world. And it was up to the Aurors to find them and stop them. Was Eli ready to take on such responsibility?
Yes. That was what he had been waiting for all along, wasn’t it? Yes. He had trained for it, he had put in the hours, hell, he would have even sold his soul for it. Eli found great passion in his profession, and knowing that, he could sleep soundly at night with no thoughts of regret toward his life. He was doing what made him happy. Sure there were a couple of blanks that would have been nice if they were filled in, but he couldn’t sit there and complain about trivial details like not having some sexy sweetheart sleeping next to him every night, or not being able to see his family as much as he wanted to. He and Angelina still kept contact by mail, and Eli loved to visit his nephew (well, cousin technically, but the technicalities in Eli’s family were rather skewed and disturbed) Avery, who was going on nine years old that year.
But now, Eli was taking his lunch break to go down to Hogsmeade and get a drink to unwind a bit after the last regurgitating toilet scam. He hoped the afternoon wouldn’t hold anymore surprises of the petty sort, and that they could actually get down to business. Ministry jail cells (which were home to the people that didn’t commit crimes heinous enough to go to Azkaban) were filling up rather quickly with people that were sentenced there for a night, a week, a month or two... It was starting to get ridiculous.
Taking his usual seat at the bar in The Three Broomsticks, Eli winked at Madam Rosmerta as she quickly sent a bottle of butterbeer his way. Ah yes. Nothing like a non-alcoholic drink to ease the tension of the day.
