I've never posted to the Safehouse before but I wanted to share an adventure I had yesterday.
I am a 49 Halfling rogue with a hide and sneak skill in the mid-150’s. I have been doing some preliminary work on my epic and yesterday decided to try for the Book of Souls.
I put all of my personal possessions in the bank, purchased a stone for the TP and a gate potion for the port out. A wizard friend ported me up and as soon as we were sure things were safe he ported back out.
After he left I slipped into the shadows and began to look around. To be honest I wasn’t clear on where the building was but I felt I had a good idea. The only thing I was sure of was to stay clear of liches and banshees because they would see me.
As I turned right from the zone in and started up the stairs I started conning the four spawns at the top of that bridge/platform. Unfortunately the mob across and to the left was a lich, but to my surprise he didn’t see me. Feeling confident I slid across and started looking for my target building. I wandered around for a bit checking mobs and trying to figure out where I was exactly. Finally I located the cathedral stairs, did an about face and saw the door I needed.
I slowly slid over to the side of the door and opened it. Slowly peeking around the corner I could see the three mobs that stand in the main part of the room. The two in the back were an Inny cleric and a golem, but again my luck was bad as the first mob inside the door was a lich. This lich was facing the door and he was scowling, my heart sank.
Well figuring I was out of luck for the time being I shuffled back to the zone in and sat and thought for a minute. What was I going to do? Wait for a reset and hope for a mob that doesn’t see me? Wait for a group to come up and kill it, again hoping for a different mob?
After a bit I decided to take a second look at the setup so I headed back over to the building. On my way I happen to stop and turn around to check a few mobs and conned the lich sitting on the bridge and he was scowling! I suddenly realized he could see me all along but because I was behind him and sneaking he was indifferent. I walked right by him three times and he didn’t even flinch!
Anyway I finally made it back over to the doorway and started peeking in again. I started wondering if I could make the run, grab the book (assuming it was up) and either make the port or take the death but at least have the book in possession.
Well I decided to go for it, but I was going to go in hiding and sneaking. I opened the door, slipped in to the right and slid along the wall passing so close to the lich I could have reached out and touched it. However, much to my astonishment I stole past and ran into the room with the nightstand without a single mob uttering a peep.
I stood next to the nightstand for a moment calming my nerves and finally looked up to see the Book of Souls sitting there looking back at me. Well after only a moments hesitation I grabbed the book, clicked my potion and gated to the Plane of Knowledge. I had the third piece for our epic in my possession! (Yes I danced around PoK for a minute!)
So I apologize for the length of this post but I wanted to share some details as well as the story.
Yes the liches can see you, but if you are quick you can get by them. I didn’t run into any banshees so I cannot comment on their reactions. Anyway, take a chance be bold and you just may come out on top.
I wish everyone that comes after me the same luck I had with the Plane of Hate. One try and I had my book. In total I spent about 20 minutes up there and most of it was walking around ringing my hands after seeing that lich in the doorway. What an exciting 20 minutes it was.
Best of luck to all,

Re: Epic adventure
The first time I did epic in new hate, I had a wiz port me up fully clothed, had no map, had no spoiler, had no way back. Found book in 10 minutes and a group who were XPing there in another five. Wiz in group TLed me out.
But then I'd done it in old hate (wrote a nice spoiler on it here long time ago with map guide and such ) and so I was like wtf let's just go up and do it, hehe.

Re: Epic adventure
I guess I should clarify that none of the pre-cautions taken were my idea. I pretty much followed the walk-thru matt.waggoner.com/ragebringer.html and took the advice from the author and those that provided him with input.
I did do a little extra work looking for current map versions for Hate, however to be honest I couldn’t find any specific to our cause. It was really just a little wandering in the direction indicated until I found landmarks that looked right.
I also used the information from this post on Allakhazam by Rindred.
“The building you want is directly across from the steps up to the Maestro's Hall. There's a decorative, free-standing arch right in front of the door to the one you want. The building itself is shaped like a plus sign "+", with the door being on the "south" end. The book is in the right side chamber of the room, against the right wall, slightly off-center to the north.”
This bit of information was handy considering no other walk-thru or post referred to the freestanding arch in front of the target building. Originally I was thrown off because no one pointed it out and it made me think I was in the wrong place.
Anyway, just wanted to give credit to those that came before me.
Cheers,
Hanu
