Episode I I News (11/20/00)
After a well-deserved two week vacation, the daily updates continue . . .
"Once again the basic plotline to a Star Wars film has leaked to the Internet and that is personally very disappointing for me. When we make these films, we take great strides to make sure that the plot will remain a secret. However, in this new information age, it doesn't seem possible to keep any secrets at all. The movie sets seemed to be covered with spies who are ready and able to spill everything they know about the film. I wish there was some way we could prevent plot leaks, but I guess we'll just have to live with the fact that most fans will know the plot to Episode 2 many months prior to the films release." Sky Fire sends in the following news:
"One of the planets that will be featured in Episode 2 is called Geonosis. It's a strange, new world where an exciting battle sequence takes place. Lucasfilm has reserved several domain names related to this planet's name."
"The new Star Wars is a better film this time around because it focuses on the romantic aspects of my character's life. In the first one, we basically just saw my character running around trying to save her planet, which isn't all that interesting in terms of character development. However, this time around, I get to stretch as an actor and show that I have the skills necessary to be on a level equal to many of the best thespians in the business. Some fans are going to be extremely bored by the love scenes between Padme and Anakin, but I think they are actually more interesting than the action sequences. Action scenes are not all that interesting to me. I'd rather watch a slow romantic interlude than an exciting, action-packed fight sequence. I hope that many fans agree with me." In Episode 2, Jar Jar Binks has a very small role in the film. He works as a security officer on Naboo. He's matured and not as goofy or clumsy as he was in Episode 1. George Lucas has been kind enough to keep Jar Jar very far from the main thrust of the plotline of Episode 2. Also, Lucasfilm has stated that Episode 2 has very little humor in it when compared to Episode 1. Most of the humor comes from the droids (C-3PO and R2-D2). Episode 2 is a very intense and serious film.
Here are some of the things you can expect to see in Episode 2:
Fans will get to see a large action scene on a rocky landscape with Obi-Wan Kenobi. We will see Padme's living quarters on both Naboo and Coruscant. Fans will see a Jedi Library with Obi-Wan and a Jedi instructor played by Alethea McGrath. There will be an analysis room in the Jedi Temple and the Jedi Council Chamber will look different from the one we saw in the first film.
"I keep waiting for George to call me to let me know what is going on with the next Indy film. I assume they are working on the script, but I haven't heard from him in the last few moments. I guess it's on the back burner for now. I can assume that it won't be happening for a while. I guess when the new Star Wars movies are finished then George will let us know what to expect on the Indy front. I'm looking forward to wearing the fedora and whip one last time. I can't wait."
