Extrication (Open)
A cycle, a pattern, one that always seemed to happen once in a while and more often than not. A dream would waver into her mind but would disappear as soon as she tried to recall it. They were always the unpleasant sort; whenever she would awaken her body would carry a heavy sadness or unfounded vexation. She knew and she did not at the same time, the ambivalence was hard to decipher or describe. Through the days, that feeling would simmer and at night it would boil over.
And then there would be a “Nothing”, a short period of time she could not recall until she fell into much-needed slumber. In that time missing time, there is both awareness of what will happen and none at all. There will be death, blood, tears...and then a wonderful release once she regained her sense of time and space. A literal awakening into reality, there will always be blood, tears, death waiting for her after the nightmare vanishes.
But it feels so wonderful again.
This was one of those moments: opening her eyes to see the light of mostly full moon. Laying on her back and out of breath, her eyes dart left to right. White noise, trees, shimmering water, stars-cold air! A brisk wind gust and Amber snapped upright to cross her arms over her chest.
Cold-cold-cold!
Wearing very little for the weather, a black and red tartan layered one piece dress, a pair of boots and a choker where a silver key hung on her neck. She lacked a jacket or her mantle, the cold wind brushed through her wings and licked her skin. What Amber did not lack: a Tai Chi sword stained with blood, a claw marks along her upper left arm, trickles of blood on her hands and a few smears of crimson on her cheek.
And the lack of that heaviness, sadness, or dulled anger deep inside of her. The girl stared up at the moon, realizing the missing sensations that had bothered her over the past few weeks...since her crazed angelic uncle and Vash fought briefly, since the throne named Nuriel spoke to her while the wheel of eyes stared at her, searched her-No, must not remember that now...
The feeling was gone! Amber crawled over towards the water’s edge, her reflection rippled by the shimmering falls. This place was far different from the rest of the campus; the only safe spot where angels and demons fear to tread. But why, she did not know yet. The girl dipped her hands into the ice cold water and quickly splashed her face; what a shock! A clean, cold shock! The blood on her hands and face vanished. She wiped her hands on her dress and crossed her arms over her chest again.
A respite and a kill to feel it...
The half-angel shivered from the cold, tears rolled down her cheeks and yet she had a smile on her face.
“It’s okay...I feel okay...how wonderful...”
