FYI on "Crossing Jordan"
I decided to do a re-post of my mail-bag entry, over here, since several people have been wondering about the fate of NBC's "Crossing Jordan".

The scoop is that the series *is* "on hiatus", but this is not such a bad thing as what is *usually* meant by that. True it is, that "CJ's" numbers have been a little on the shaky side, but the show is *not* cancelled --- it is on hold until approximately next January, because series star Jill Hennesey is pregnant. (Gee . . . I wonder how *that* happened? ;) . . . wasn't me, much as I might wish this were so :\ )

Furthermore, I am happy to report that "CJ" *is* being re-run over the summer, but in a different time slot (its normal home is 10 Eastern / 9 Central on Mondays). "CJ" will now be seen, at least over the summer, at *8* Eastern / *7* Central on *Fridays*.:eek

I sincerely hope that "CJ" avoids TV Hell :-); much as I like its more famous counterpart, the original "CSI", I think "CJ" has much more engaging characters, and is not so "cold" --- a definite asset, for a show which revolves around a city morgue! LOL!:p

Re: FYI on "Crossing Jordan"
I never could get into CJ, but I really like CSI. Something about the acting on CJ and I just can't put my finger on it...:rolleyes

A Question of "Heat"
Hello! Sorry I took so long to get back :o . . .

"Something about the acting on CJ and I just can't put my finger on it..."

I happen to like both of 'em (CJ and the original CSI), and I think I can see what could put you "on" one and "off" the other.

"CSI" is a very "cool" show in more ways than one --- if I have one criticism of it, it is that it's a little *too* "cool", as in detatched, where the main characters are concerned. Not the actors' fault; Grissom and co. are obviously written that way.

On the other hand, "CJ" is (again, if pressed to level a criticism) probably guilty of the *opposite* "sin": It's almost over-the-top, sometimes, and, while that can be entertaining, they have a little bit too much in the way of "meltdowns", especially Macy and Jordan herself, too frequently with the out of control tantrums.

Now, supposedly and alledgedly, "CSI" 's staff are aware of the "too cool" criticism (I'm not the only one to level it), and there is supposed to be much more in the way of character development come this fall. Hope so --- they've got a fine show, with lots of wry, dry humour!

Now, if the PTB in Kring-land just do an opposite number with "CJ", I'll be *totally* happy (eh, more-or-less :b ). If Jordan herself, in particular, would take a chill-pill once in awhile, it would vastly improve the overall feel of the thing, although, actually, I do hope they don't *totally* "get real" with it --- I rather like the "non-realistic", stylized warmth it has.

Season finale was tremendous, so maybe there is hope all the way around . . .?8)

Please tell me that Crossing Jordan is still coming back. I really liked the show and even thought they were preparing for a spin off with Jerry O'Connell but I guess not. I miss the show and am hoping that your earlier post is correct. Please update if you know any more info.
Thanks!

Here's the latest I've found on CJ
'Crossing Jordan' Extends Production Hiatus
(Friday, October 24 08:36 AM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) The cast and crew of NBC's "Crossing Jordan" will wait a while longer to return to work.
Production on the show's third season was scheduled to begin this week, but star Jill Hennessy asked the network and NBC Studios, which produces the series, for some more time to spend with her newborn child. Work on the show will probably start up again in January.

NBC, however, doesn't anticipate the change will affect "Jordan's" return to the airwaves. "As we announced in May, 'Crossing Jordan' will return to NBC's schedule in January," a network spokesman tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The network decided to hold the show back for midseason to accommodate Hennessy's pregnancy. Writing a pregnancy for her character, Jordan Cavanaugh, into the show wouldn't have made much sense, and as Hennessy is in nearly every scene, shooting around it would have caused a big logistical headache.

Six episodes of the new season were shot this spring, before Hennessy began her leave.

Disturbing News (?)
Greetings, "Dr. Jimmy"!

Glad you appreciated the info on "CJ", but, have you seen the post below this one? The "extension of 'hiatus' " is usually a *very* bad sign; in this case, as you know, the "on hiatus" designation wasn't so bad, since it resulted from Jill Henessey's pregnancy, but now I am rather worried. My guess would be that some or all of the principal actors had to "move on", because they (quite understandably) needed to be involved with something which *was*/*is* in-production. I'm thinking particularly of the excellent Miguel Ferrer, who has, I believe, shown up in a couple of other dramas as a guest. [I think he was in an ep of "Karen Sisco", among other things]

By the way, much amused by your "handle" :-) --- would that, by any chance, be as-in

"Dr. Jimmy and Mr. Jim
When I'm pilled, you don't notice him . . .
He only comes out when I drink my gin . . ."

??? Yes, I am a *big* WHO fan, of long-standing :-), and "Quadrophenia" is my fave WHO album, even over the mighty "Tommy"! Somebody should make a mini-series out of "Quad", eh? *chuckle!*

Steve

P.S. "The cracks between the paving stones
Like rivers of flowing veins
Strange people who know me
Peeping from behind every window-pane

The girl I used to love
Lives in this yellow house
Yesterday she passed me by ---
She doesn't wanna know me *now*!

Can you see the real me --- can ya? can ya?"

--- quoting Pete, of course; wish I could post *sound* here, too --- I have a midi file of "The Real Me", including a passable imitation of Entwistle's bass line, which is probably the finest *ever* on a rock-n-roll record :-).

Heard it through the grapevine :-)
Hello, "CherylsChoice"!

Glad you liked the info, and no, *I* didn't get it from NBC, either *chuckle!*. I believe I found out what was (originally) "up" from TV Guide.

All is not necessarily well with "CJ", however, by now --- see the post by "debosedelights" (sp?) in re the "extension" of the hiatus, and my own comments to "Dr. Jimmy".

I have my fingers crossed, though, of course --- "CJ" had a lot of style and warmth to it, as I said to begin this thread. I am rather musical around the edges, and I will *always* remember that *tremendous* cover of Donovan's "Season of the Witch" by the obscure-but-beloved Richard Thompson which accompanied "the last we saw of Dr. Kavanaugh" . . . I believe that was recorded especially *for* the show, although it *is*, I think, also now available on RT's latest album.

What next? Will they dredge-up Karla Bonoff's "Cold Wind Blows"? That would "kill" even more, I think! The latter *was* written and recorded *only* for a TV show, specifically the late, great "Miami Vice", and has *never* been on an album, anywhere . . . although I *do* know where there is a *.wav file of it, from a tape of the ep :-).

Anyway: Let us hope that this will be more than a memory, but shall be resolved and expanded-upon. "Sith Happens" comments that he (?) believes that there are something on the order of at least six eps following that one which are "in the can".

All I can say is (to quote Mulder): "Bring it on!" ("First Person Shooter" :-)):hat

VTY,

Steve ;)

??? about "CJ"
Hello, Atheene!

Did you see "dobosedelights" (sp?) post, below? That also is the latest that I have seen, in re "CJ". With all of the crap that is "new" this season, we could really use the return of something *decent* like "CJ", eh? :-)

B-t-w, thanks for the info on a possible spin-off --- this is the first I had heard of such. For the moment, I would just be happy to have Jordan and Co. back :-) !

VTY,

Steve

Muchas Gracias!
Thanks for the update, "dobosdelights" . . . that was the latest I had heard/seen, also. It worries me, that the deadline has been extended again, but I'm hoping that the p-t-b at the network and with Kring and Co. do realize that there are quite a few of us out here who would be *very* happy to see "CJ" return ASAP ! :D

Steve
