Part 16
“Are you sure you want to do this now?” Alan asked his brother as they sat in his car. After picking Justin up from the airport as promised, Alan recommended that he reside with the family instead of the Port Charles Hotel.
Justin didn’t answer him but instead requested that he take him to see Susan’s grave if that were possible. Alan knew Susan was buried close by but hesitated in divulging that information to his brother, concerned about the state of mind his brother would be in after the visit. The lawyer in Justin was nothing but persistent and managed to talk Alan into taking him on the condition that he would live with the family for the duration of his stay here.
“I- I have to see for myself. I just have to.” Justin said, his hand lingering on the handle. “Can you just come back in an hour or so?”
“Justin I don’t think this is such a good idea. Maybe you should come back later on.” Alan suggested observing how difficult it was for Justin to simply open the door.
“NO!” Justin shouted finally opening the door and attempting to walk out. “I have to do this and if I don’t do it now I don’t think that I ever will.”
“But Justin…”
“No Alan! Just come back for me in about an hour.”
“Maybe I should stay and…”
“Alan, please let me do this alone.” Justin interrupted. “Please.” He didn’t give Alan time to answer as he closed the door and headed towards the cemetery gate. The start of the car gave him his answer as he pushes the gate open and enters the cemetery with one thought in mind. Susan.

Her pacing around the room was making him uneasy and Lucas had about enough of it. “Emily!” he called out causing her to pause and look intently at him. “Sit down for a second and take a deep breath. She’ll be here in time.”
“Take a deep breath. She’ll be here in time.” Emily mimicked her older sibling. “ We had an entire month to prepare for this inspection and what happens before the inspectors even get here? I’ll tell you what happens, our sister doesn’t come home the night before the inspection and when we finally reach here she takes forever to get her butt here.”
“Emily, when has Elizabeth ever let us down?” Lucas asked as they heard a motorcycle rumble to a stop in front of their house.
Emily breathes a sigh of relief as she looked out of the living room window and noticed her sister hop off the back of the bike and pass Jason her helmet. “Never.” She answered her brother as he watched beside her.
He observes his older sister with Jason and smiles. “She looks comfortable with him.” He looked perplexed when Emily gave him a peculiar look. “What?”
“You mister ‘No one’s good enough for my sister’ approve of him.” Emily asked as Elizabeth smiled at Jason and kissed his cheek before heading towards the house.
“No- um well maybe just a little.” He mumbled as Emily grinned from ear to ear. “But don’t get use to it.” He said as the front door opened and they turned to see Elizabeth stroll inside with a huge smile on her face.
“What took you so long?” Emily stated.
“Man Emily calm down. And I thought Lucas was panicky. Just lighten up. I’m going to freshen up and then we’ll leave. Okay.” Elizabeth said before heading upstairs. “Oh and Lucas we’re going in your car today.” Elizabeth called out from upstairs.
Hospital
The beep of his heartbeat on the monitor was reassuring to Carly as she watched him sleep peaceful. She ran her fingers carefully around the gauze covering his body and tried to hold back her tears. Sonny could have easily died in the parking garage but he was here with her and she was grateful. Before Sonny she was alone in the world. After her parents died, she had no more relatives and was placed in foster care. She was bounced from place to place before someone even glanced her way and decided to adopt her.
The adoption didn’t last long because she did everything she could to get away from her new adoptive parents. The Webbers couldn’t deal with the way Carly acted out. Their daughter, Sarah disliked Carly on the spot and Steven, their son, didn’t seem to understand that he couldn’t have a crush on his sister adopted or not, so she was sent back to the foster home. No one attempted to adopt her after that and she was grateful. Carly never wanted anyone to replace her parents and if she got her way no one ever would.
The minute she hit eighteen, she left the home and headed to Port Charles on a mission to get her life together and because of the man lying next to her she managed to do exactly that.
The rain fell on her in rapid falls as she sat on the bench with her head in her hands. The job interview didn’t go as she expected it to and she had no idea what she was going to do now.
He watched her as she sat there motionless in the rain, her shoulders slumped and her head down. The rain intensified, he sighed and walked down the stairs to the docks towards her his umbrella in hand. He removed the umbrella from over his head and placed it over hers.
Carly looked up when she felt the rain stop but still heard it falling around her. Carly glanced behind her and noticed a man with an umbrella. She stood abruptly causing the gentleman to lift the umbrella in time with her movement. “Who are you?”
“Are you okay?” The man asked ignoring her question.
“I’m fine.” She frowned at him. “Why do you care anyway?”
“You don’t look alright to me.” He observed taking in her wet clothes that clung to her showing him things he was pretty sure that she didn’t want him to see. “In fact to me you look down right sad. Want to tell me what’s wrong?”
“Why?”
“Because I’ve seen that look you have now in myself and I just want to help if you’ll let me.”
“I don’t even know you.” Carly said empathizing for the man she didn’t know. She didn’t know why; this man could easily be lying but by the look in his eyes she doubted that he was.
He stuck out his free hand intent on changing that. “I’m Michael. Michael Morgan.”
“Excuse me, Mrs. Morgan.” AJ interrupted lingering in the doorway with Courtney beside him. “We need to take Mr. Morgan for more tests before we release him.”
“Is everything alright?” She asked getting up careful not to wake Sonny.
“Everything’s fine. We just want to double check everything before we release him.” AJ said cautiously. “And in the meantime I need you to sign some papers for his release. Now I understand that you are Mr. Morgan’s wife but because Dr. Quatermaine and I don’t want him moving to much we agreed to release him into the care of his brother Jason Morgan, so he needs to be here to sign the papers as well before Mr. Morgan can be released from our care.” Carly nodded and Courtney showed her out heading towards the front desk to sign some papers.
Cemetery
It took him some time before he found the grave, considering that he didn’t know where it was in the first place. A white rose sat beside the headstone and he scolded himself for not thinking to bring any. The person's name on the grave told him that it was true. Susan was dead and he never had the chance to tell her he loved her or that he was sorry.
The silence around the graveyard was deafening to his ears. He wanted to hear something, like her laughter when he told her a joke or her breath in his ear as he trailed kisses down her neck. He wanted to feel her beneath him, wipe away her tears when she cried. Justin kneeled beside the headstone and positioned his fingers against it tenderly, afraid that it would break.
2001. The year made him gap. That was the year he finally decided to stop looking for her. He was married and he had another son to worry about so he thought that it would be best to let her go and live her life like he was. He felt that if he were fated to find her he would have by then. He never thought that she would be in danger.
Tears filled his eyes as he realized that she died the year he had given up on her. Questions bombarded him. Would she have still been alive if he had continued to look for her? Would his son still have his mother if he just kept on looking? He knew the questions couldn’t be answered but he still cried and held himself responsible. Why? He cried because he would never see her face again, hear her laughter, embrace her when she cried… tell her he loved her; at least not to her face.
He took a deep breath before speaking to get himself together but when he spoke his voice broke with every word. “Susan I…” he paused for a second. “I don’t- I can’t accept that you’re gone. I miss you so much honey and I can’t bring myself to believe that I’ll never see your face again.” The ache around his heart tightens and he didn’t fight it as he sunk to the ground. “ I love you, Susan and I’m sorry that I never got to tell you in person. I knew what we were doing was wrong but that didn’t stop me and I’m sorry I caused you so much pain.”
“We made bad choices in our life but I wouldn’t change the time I spent with you for a second. I’m so sorry that I wasn’t there for you and Jason. I feel like this is completely my fault. I hate myself for not following you that night you walked out of my life. I was just so angry that you wouldn’t choose me for once. We both knew what we were doing when we got involved. It was suppose to just be sex but I feel in love with you Susan and I sorry that I let you down.”
The pain in his chest lessens and he breathed easier with each declaration.
“I will always love you with all my heart but I had to move on like you did. Did you know that after you left that it took me forever to fall in love again? Her name is Jennifer and she’s… amazing. Nolan, he’s my son, he has eyes like Jason and they haunt me, remind me that I have another son somewhere and he knows nothing about me. I’m about to change that if he lets me. I finally found the both of you and I’m sorry that I didn’t save you in time but I give your word that I won’t let anything happen to our son. You don’t know how grateful I am that you gave me something to remember you and our love by. I just hope that Jason will accept me as his father.”
“ My father?”
The question startled him and he turned to face the voice. The man was tall, almost as tall as him and his eyes… Justin knew those blue eyes anywhere. The recognition hit him hard as he found himself looking into the eyes of his son.
