Fawkes Emrys.
Name: Fawkes Emrys.

Age: 16.

Grade: 10th.

Appearance:

Another image.

Fawkes is tall, at 6’7” with dark brown hair that is always messy and often sticks up in tufts, and falls to the nape of his neck. His irises glow, silvery blue most of the time, and only faintly, bright green-gold when he’s happy and turn to an almost blindingly bright aurora of gold, orange, yellow, red and pink when he’s angry. He’s tanned, and has a silver earring in one ear. He looks a few years older than he is.

He’s well-built, but quite lean, and not at all bulky, and his features are quite sharp and striking, without being unfriendly looking. He’s quite scruffy, but has the sort of looks that can pull off scruffy. In his left arm, he has a piece of metal, glowing the same colours as his eyes, with the word ‘CHORD’ carved into it rather crudely.

He tends to wear simple jeans and t-shirts with a jacket over, and usually doesn’t bother meticulously picking out his clothes.

Often, he has tiny sparks, the same colours as his eyes, floating around him.

He speaks with a thick accent halfway between Scottish and Irish, with a tiny bit of Welsh thrown in.

Personality: Fawkes is a nice guy. Ish. He’s amiable and playful, and often more than a little bit silly. He’s a prankster by nature, and a trouble-maker, and although he’s quiet a lot of the time, he almost always has a mischevious nature to him.

He’s a good friend, and the most loyal person anyone could hope for, most of the time. He always has an open ear for people’s troubles, and though he’s not good at giving advice, he does try. He does, however, have a tendancy to bottle up his own feelings, so as not to burden other people with them. He’s incredibly intelligent, though he tends to hide it a bit.

Although it’s difficult to make him angry, he has quite a temper, and a tendancy to hold grudges for a long time. Despite having quite a forward, silly nature, he’s quite shy when it comes to actually forming significant relationships with people.

Special Power:

Flight of the Fireflies - Time’s Current: With a mental command, Fawkes can call a swarm of tiny energy beings (like little sparks, that glow the same colour as his eyes) into his hands and use them to accelerate the aging of inanimate objects., and to a far more limited extent, people and animals. In the case of objects, if he’s touching them he can increase the rate they age at to, at it’s outermost limit, a year a minute, thus causing a bar of steel to age six-hundred years in six-hundred minutes, say.

The ability does not work on people or animals, by simple refusal by them to do so, though it does work on plants, albeit at a much slower rate (a month per minute). They also heal from it, at a rate of a year every ten minutes while he’s still using the power, and a year every two minutes while he’s not.

While he does this, his eyes glow brighter, and a faint singing and whispering in another language, getting louder and louder can be heard. If he uses this power for too long (ie: A total of twenty minutes in a day), he starts to become feverish, suffer from sickness and numbness, delusions and fits.

Flight of the Fireflies - The Storm: With a mental command, Fawkes can call the tiny energy beings in a different way - This time, however, they burn when they touch things - Anything except Fawkes. They come in numbers of, at their outermost limit, one hundred, thick enough that despite their tinyness, they form large clouds and streams of light, and he can manipulate them how he wants. They have a temperature of 100 degrees celsius, the boiling point of water.

However, they can tend towards doing their own thing, and not following Fawkes’ orders, and they often outright refuse to fight if they believe that the fight is unjust, or that it is just silly, or if they feel bored by the prospect. In addition, using them for an extended period of time - Thirty minutes at a stretch, causes Fawkes to become feverish, suffer from sickness and numbness, delusions and fits, and can also cause them to go out of his control and to burn him.

When Fawkes does this, his eyes glow much brighter, and a singing and whispering can be heard.

History: Born on a small, harsh island, the second smallest of a cluster of four, Fawkes was the result of two long lines of magic users coming together - His father’s line, if his rather crazy grandfather was to be believed, was descended from Myrddin Emrys, the advisor and magician to King Arthur, and his mother was a distant descendant of the Fae, though dilution of the Faery blood had made her almost completely human, save for powerful magical abilities. Fawkes had quite a lot to live up to - His father and grandfather were both immensely powerful wizards and prophets, and his mother’s power as a witch was so staggering that it was, at times, frightening. All the children in the family thus far had manifested magical abilities before their seventh birthday.

Fawkes showed no ability with magic, or any magical power, whatsoever. His seventh birthday came and went, and while most of his siblings showed varying degrees of power and ability, he had none.

Neither his parents nor his grandfather held it against him, and his siblings quickly grew out of taunting him about it. Although it left a rift between him and his family, it wasn’t as big or as terrible as it could have been. However, he was warned never to go onto the smallest island, though the other children were.

When he was eleven, it was decided that he’d be better off with a proper education rather than the patchy one his grandfather gave his siblings, and he was sent off to a boy’s boarding school in Dublin. There, he quickly learnt to defend himself, becoming a very good brawler. Under the tutelage of a particularly friendly Drama teacher, he got interested in acting and singing. Slowly, he developed an interest in all things artistic - from painting to sculpting, to acting to singing, to writing. He also became interested in sports - Football (soccer, in American terms), basketball and running.

More importantly, he gradually became more independant, and less bothered about having no magical abilities. He visited his family in the summer, at Christmas and for a day or two at Easter. It was during the summer on one of these visits, that he went onto the smallest island. It was entirely empty, save for a small wooden shrine with a ring of running water around it, and an apple tree nearby.

Following the faint sound of singing, he moved over to the shrine and opened the door to it. Nothing happened, and there was only an apple tree, a lump of metal and a scroll of paper in it. Experimentally, he closed the doors and took an apple from the apple tree, placing it on top of the shrine.

Almost immediately, a swarm of silvery-blue sparks came from the shrine, swarming around him and entering him from his eyes and mouth. As he writhed in pain from the burning sensation, he felt something move up his arm, beneath the skin, and the jagged piece of metal with ‘CHORD’ carved on it burst out of his wrist. He fell unconscious, and later woke up back in the house, with both his parents acting worried and his grandfather eyeing him strangely.

As he started to demonstrate powers, first his time powers, and then his burny powers, they became increasingly worried, and took him to the smallest island again. The sparks manifested themselves around him, and sang, and although Fawkes didn’t understand what they were saying, his parents and grandfather apparently did. They moved back into him, and, considerably more relaxed, his parents decided to send him to Manga High School.

EXAMPLE ROLE-PLAYING POST:

The landscape rushed past the window as Fawkes sat on the train, staring out, the book he was reading long forgotten in favour of thought. Slowly, he turned his arm over, running one thumb over the piece of metal in his arm.

He placed the apple on top of the shrine, fully expecting very little to happen. For a few seconds, nothing did, the air was still, the island of silent. And then, the air really was still, the island really was silent - Devoid of any slight breeze, or any bird sounds. Fawkes tapped the shrine, and no sound came out. The temperature dropped, so that he thought he was going to freeze over.

There was a song, wordless, in the distance. For a second, Fawkes wondered if he had imagined it. He didn’t have anymore time to speculate. Out of the wood of the shrine, dozens, then hundreds of silvery blue sparks came flying out, swarming round and round him, faster and faster, more and more, until he could no longer see the island, just endless silver-blue light.

The singing rose, louder and louder, and Fawkes collapsed back on the shrine, face burning as they swarmed into his eyes, then, as he opened his mouth, through his mouth, scorching his throat.

Fawkes frowned faintly, pulling the book back towards him and opening it again, flicking to the page he was at. It was all of thirty seconds before restlessness made him put it down again.

Slowly, the singing faded away and died, and the temperature rose again. Fawkes wrenched his eyelids closed in a blink, and closed to his mouth, swallowing vaguely, grabbing hold of the shrine shakily and pulling himself up.

His heart convulsed halfway up. Looking down, he saw a lump, moving away from his chest to his shoulder. A moment later, as if brought on by the knowledge that it was there, pain started to course through his body, and he fell down again. The lump crawled it’s way down his arm, round to his wrist, and with the sickeningly loud sound of sinew, muscle and skin being broken to, burst out.

Fawkes slowly turned to look at it, shaking slightly. Carved across it, in a macabre, crude script, was the word ‘CHORD’, as if someone had taken a sharp piece of stone or a chisel to it, and determinedly scratched at it for hours until they got something that looked like letters.

The pain faded away, replaced by a sharp numbness, spreading up his arm and throughout his body. Slowly, he slid his eyes closed and flopped against the shrine.

The train ground to a stop, the doors sliding open, and Fawkes had to grin. He had arrived.

Re: Fawkes Emrys.
A couple things:

1.) Sorry it took so long.

2.) Power #1 - the example of aging the steel makes the power seem too powerful to start with, even if it does take 16 minutes. Maybe cut back the time it takes things to age? You could make a sapling grow to be 500 years old in 500 minutes, or roughly 8 hours, the time it would probably take to watch the first two Lord of the Rings movies and part of the 3rd.

3.) The amount of fireflies you can summon in the second power is way too much. If they got into someone's mouth, they could potentially burn someone from the inside out. Catch my drift? Cut back the number and give a range of how hot they can get, please.

Okay, cut back the aging to a year per minute, as opposed to a year per second, one inanimate objects, and a month per minute on plants.

The amount of fireflies has been reduced from thousands to five hundred. They've been given a temperature of 2000 degrees celsius, which is a bit hotter than the top temperature of a Bunsen Burner, and about the same temperature as an oxyhydrogen flame.

Also, did some small alterations to his physical appearance - Hair colour and height, really.

Okay, your general profile looks good, so you're clear to RP. Just don't use your powers until an admin approves them, as I cannot do that.

2,000 C still seems to be pushing the envelope, and 500 is still a lot of fireflies. What you have to remember is that powers start out WEAK. Let's cut it down to, say, 200 or so, and cut the temperature a bit, and it'll be better.

Okay, 1300 C is still damned hot. You could quite literally burn someone alive with that temperature and that many fireflies. If you want such a high temperature, you need to cut WAY down on the number of fireflies (we're talking 30 or so) either that, or you can cut down the temperature. I would recommend something around five hundred or less.

A Bunsen burner may not be all that dangerous, but it has a pretty small flame. With this many fireflies, you can project that temperature over a pretty wide area and cause massive damage. Powers start out weak. You're not supposed to be strong at all when you start out; that would more or less kill a lot of your character's development...

Sorry about the last post; I was sick and tired (literally) when I wrote it so my temperature was off. You're gonna need to take it down to boiling point or less. Also, you'll need to cut the number of fireflies to less than a hundred.

Sorry about so many changes; in the many years I've been here, you're the first person ever to have a fire or heat-based power, so I'm kind of winging it to figure out the temperatures and what would and wouldn't be overpowered.

Temperature changed to 100 degrees, the boiling point of water, and the number dropped to a hundred. Which I know isn't less, but considering the individual fireflies are pretty tiny isn't very much. But if it needs to be reduced further, that's fine.

That looks okay to me; you'll just need to wait for an admin to look at the power and approve it.

Also, turn ezCodes on in your application post; your bold and italic codes aren't working.
