Felix Ash
OOC
Name: Kelly
Contacts: fire_wizard10@yahoo.com, (AIM) firewiz10
Age: 17
Code: Hermoine Granger
IC:
Full Name: Felix Ash
Nickname(s): Flix
DOB: 31 October 1997
Year: First year
Blood: Felix is Muggle born.
House Preference: Slytherin
Why: Felix has a knack for getting in trouble. Although he is not entirely evil, he enjoys putting small curses on the occasional unsuspecting passerby. When Felix was little, his older brother used to let his snake loose in whatever room little Felix was sitting. Because of this and other torments that Felix endured growing up, he has created a boiling hatred and has become very apt to revenge. He has always been very cunning and brave; however, he used these traits as a means of revenge and trouble-making.
Thought of as a delinquent by Muggles, Felix always thought that he was different from the rest of his family and all the people around him. Bad things, usually destructive ones, would happen whenever Felix’s emotions got the better of him. He always felt that something dark lurked inside of him. When he received his acceptance letter from Hogwarts, he knew that this had to be the thing that separated him from the rest of his family. When reading through the list of books and school supplies, the words “Dark Arts” grabbed his attention immediately - he completely ignored “Defense Against”. Once he had obtained this book, he read the whole thing five times over before the Hogwarts Express went speeding from the train station. The class became his favorite prior to entering the hallowed halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Physical Appearance: Felix stands at 4’10” tall and his weight fluctuates between 90 to 100 pounds. He is the shortest in his family and can not understand why because the rest of his family is between 5’10” and 6’5” in height. However, he does not complain about his shortness because the rest of his family are gangly, where he is somewhat built. Felix has short dirty blonde hair that he always has spiked. The spikes stand about an inch off of the top of his egg-shaped head. He has a simple silver stud earring in his left ear, which he only wears on the weekends. His large oval eyes are a dark green color and always seem to have this glassy tint to them. His eyebrows are thin and brown and are really close to the tops of his eyes, closer than normal. His nose is small and comes to dull point. Felix’s lips are thin and are a pale red color.
Whenever allowed to wear normal clothes, Felix can be found in a pair of baggy black pants with about twenty pockets in them. The bottom of his pants are always torn and worn away from where he steps on them, and there is a chain that is attached to his belt loop and goes into his front left pocket, which has his wallet in it. He usually wears black shirts, with the names of bands that nobody has ever heard on them, over a white muscle shirt (often referred to as a wife beater). The type of shoes that Felix wears, whether out of uniform or no, are a very old and worn pair of black Vans, which he uses when he skateboards.
Personality: Felix has never had a lot of friends because of the way he treated himself and the way his family treated him. He spends the majority of his time reading books about the Dark Arts, in hopes of absorbing some knowledge of the subject that the professor is unwilling to teach or of finding a good curse to use on anyone who picks on him. Felix is a good student, always reading and willing to learn more. He reads almost constantly. He has read almost every book he owns at least two or three times over. However, Felix has not been able to use his book smarts to prove to his fellow Slytherins that he belongs there. Obviously, he excels in Defense Against the Dark Arts, which is by far his favorite class. He is also decent in the Potions, History of Magic, Astronomy, and Charms because they are all decently heavily book based, although he doesn’t really like Charms all that much for some reason or another. His worst subject by far is Transfiguration because, no matter how many books he reads or how many times he reads them, he can never seem to completely change anything from its original form into another form.
Being a muggle-born first year, Felix knew next to nothing about the magical world prior to Hogwarts; however, his love of causiong trouble and need for revenge followed the boy to the school. In the short time before the start of the term, he read and reread all of his books and began attempting spells. His favorite spells were soon Incendio and Locomotor Mortis. By the time he reached Hogwart's grounds for the first time, he was able to perform these spells relatively well. Upon entering the school he learned about the Petrificus Totalus spell and began attempting to learn it. Felix's favorite spell to use on his peers from other houses was Locomotor Mortis, and he began to excell at it. Anything that causes trouble or will definitely cause a ruckus always seems to catch Felix’s eye. Although his love of small idle pranks, like those he believes that The Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes supplies, have surpassed him at a young age; however, he still loves to play small pranks that will cause a lot of commotion. Whenever Felix enters any classroom, besides the Dark Arts classroom of course, he immediately searches for something that would be funny to use on some unfortunate soul that he happened to cross in the halls. Despite all of his tricks and pranks, Felix knows the rules and follows them to an extent: He would never do a prank so outrageous that he would be expelled, or put a curse on someone that would do permanent bodily harm (i.e. the Unforgivable Curses, if he knew them).
Felix would never trade his wand for anything; he sees it as his source of power. As long as he has his wand, then nothing too terribly wrong can happen to him. It is his weapon, his soul defense, his humanity. Books provide an escape, and in no instances are the readers required to harbor any skill, only a simple knowledge of the past and an open mind. Wands, on the other hand, require the holder to have much talent, something that cannot be learned from books. However, knowledge and understanding also has to go into the correct usage of a wand. One must know the incantations and hand movements and must understand the meaning behind the spell and what it is intended to do. Felix believes that if he can do all of these things, than he can truly be a master wizard, which he inspires to be more than anything.
Flix is very bright, although he wants everyone to think he is the dumbest person on the planet. He does nothing but read and skateboard over the summer, so he knows almost everything. He is a very fast reader, and his memory is better than most. He can remember almost anything after only being told once, but he asks multiple times to keep up his “dumber than dirt” persona. He will never be caught reading at school because, while at school, he doesn’t like to do anything except skateboard and play pranks- or so he wants everyone to think. In truth, he will sit alone in his dormitory and read when all his housemates are in the Common Room or elsewhere. He uses being born Muggle to keep up his persona, also. He is very laid-back, but more so at school. However, when Felix gets mad, he won’t hold anything back; he’ll yell and scream and curse or hex anyone who ticks him off too bad.
Flix is very independent and prefers to be that way. He can do anything he wants to by himself and finds that sometimes it is easier to do things on ones own. He has the ability to tune people out very easily. He can do this because his glassy eyes hide the fact that he is not paying attention. Although he is self-sufficient, Flix desperately wants a true friend, someone that he can easily be around and talk to if he ever feels that he no longer wants to be alone. Whenever anyone calls him by his name, - calls him Felix or Felix Ash - no matter who calls it or why, he always replies with an emphatic “I didn’t do it!” This reflex comes from the many times when he was suspected of pulling some kind of prank at home or in Muggle school, and the suspicions were not always correct.
History: Born in Banbridge in UK controlled Northern Ireland on the 31st of October of 1997, Felix Ash was already thought to be the oddball in the family. His birth was unplanned, but not necessarily unwanted, by his parents, Jilleen and Galvin Ash; however, his five brothers and sisters thought otherwise. The eldest, Galvin James, Jr., was 23 and was graduating from the University College in Dublin, where his sister, Lillian Blaire, 19, would begin attending the following term. The other three siblings -Alastar Blaine (17), Oliver George (15), and Margo Shannon (12),were still enrolled in the local public schools when their new brother arrived. It was hard for the family to get used to for a while, having a baby in the house for the first time in about ten years. The Ash family was never really completely comfortable around Felix, for, as a baby, he rarely ever cried. They always had the distinct feeling that something separated them from the youngest of the family, a belief that Felix would inherit.
Each sibling seemed to have his or her own reason for not liking Felix as much as they liked each other. Galvin, Jr., having seen all his siblings grow from babies, always looked down on Felix for never making a big fuss about anything. Felix had an “unnatural calm” to him, as Galvin, Jr., would say; he had an eerily long patience and tolerance level as a young child. Galvin, Jr., who was the most impatient of all the Ash children, always looked down on Felix for this reason. Lillian believed him to be switched at birth, partly because he lacked some certain traits that all Ash’s had, and partly because she could never accept that someone so queer (odd) could come from her family. She never fully accepted Felix as a brother. Alastar saw him as a nuisance, someone he would have to take everywhere when his parents and older siblings were away. Oliver, the attention seeker of the household, was angry that, from the time Felix was born, he always got the majority of the attention. He also believed that everything Felix did was to draw the attention to himself and away from Oliver. Margo, on the other hand, was by far the most accepting out of the children; she was upset that she was no longer the youngest of the family, but was also in the stage of growing up, and, therefore, accepted the fact that things have to change sometimes and that Felix was brought to their family for a reason. She had always been the optimist. She took it upon herself to care for the child when her parents were away, so that none of the other four could abuse the small boy. For this reason, Felix and Margo had a special bond that went beyond brother and sister that would prove useful in the distant future.
When Felix was five years old, his father lost his job. Together, the two adults decided to move to Cambridge, England. There the family would be closer to Galvin, Jr., who had moved there two years prior. Galvin helped his father find a new job and found that his youngest brother was still the same - eerily calm and understanding. In truth, Felix was the only child who did not make a fuss about having to move; oddly enough, he was looking forward to it. During the time that the family lived closer to their eldest son, Galvin truly discovered how peculiar his brother was and began to share his sister’s opinion of him being switched at birth. He took it upon himself to look after Felix while his parents were working and Margo, who was teaching him how to read at the time, was at school. Thinking that he could somehow change his brother, Galvin began to let his pet snake loose upon an unsuspecting five-year-old Felix, who was reading the majority of the time. He hoped that fear would break Felix’s calm and cause him to make a big fuss for the first time in his life.
To his dismay, Galvin’s tactic did not work. The fear of the snake and the hatred he felt towards his brother for what he was doing remained locked inside Felix. The only thing that Galvin accomplished was cutting down his brother’s patience level. When Felix was seven, after dealing with this torture for two years, Felix’s class was on a field trip to the London Zoo. In the Reptile Room, the oldest boy in the class was tormenting a boa by taping on its glass and waking it up. Another boy thought it would be funny to push Felix up against the glass as soon as the boa was good and mad. He did, and Felix screamed as the boy refused to let him go. Soon, Felix’s rage overcame his fear, and the whole room began to shake as Felix continued to scream. Thinking it was an earthquake, but not sure why, people began to run from the house, and the teacher began to round up her class. When she found Felix and the two bigger boys, she pulled the one pinning Felix to the glass away as two nearby glass panels were beginning to crack from the shaking. Felix immediately stopped screaming and the shaking stopped shortly thereafter. For the rest of that day, whenever either of those two boys were close to Felix, the ground began to shake. After a few times of this happening, Felix realized that it was he who was making the ground shake and began to separate himself from the rest of his class.
Felix only ever told Margo about this particular incident. Unfortunately, when he was relaying the information, Galvin, Jr., was listening at the door. He relayed what he had heard to the remainder of the family. Lillian, who was extremely distant from the family, distanced herself even further from her youngest brother, cutting almost all ties with him. Alastar and Oliver refused to have anything to do with Felix any longer. Even his parents treated him differently after the incident. Margo, although shocked by Felix’s discovery, was the only one who truly stood by her brother and treated him just as she always had, with respect as a person. From that point on, Felix became truly distant from people, other than Margo; they wrote to each other at least once a week when she went off to Oxford University. Every now and again, something would happen - shaking, high-pitched buzzing in people’s ears, and the occasional wastepaper basket fire. Margo’s roommate introduced Felix to skateboarding while he was visiting her on his ninth birthday. He found it a good way to release excess stress that was causing more “incidents,” as they were referred. He’s been skateboarding ever since.
On a warm summer day in August, Felix ran to that postbox, hoping to find a letter from his dear sister. Instead of a reply letter, he found a letter made of what looked like old parchment written on in green ink. It was addressed to him. He turned the envelope over, intrigued by its appearance, to reveal the Hogwarts crest. He set the rest of the post in the usual spot on the table and went to his room. There, he opened the letter and read through it ten times over, making sure he comprehended its meaning. The very next thing he did was take out paper and a pen and write a new letter to Margo, no longer willing to wait for her reply. Skimming over the parchment quickly, the biggest smile on his face, - he finally knew why he was different - his eyes fell upon the words “Dark Arts.” He finished the letter and rushed to the post to mail it, leaving the open letter on his desk. His mother found the letter while he was gone and became terribly frightened. She, in turn, told the other members of the family. Lillian broke all ties with Felix when she found out; she even refused to talk to or look at him. Alastar and Oliver only came in contact with Felix when it was absolutely necessary. Galvin, Jr., denounced his brother completely; to him, Felix no longer existed. His parents became frightened of their eleven-year-old son. Despite the new information, Margo remained loyal to Felix. They still correspond, only, now it’s by owl post. Felix’s parents reluctantly gave him money to obtain his school stuffs, and he ventured into Diagon Alley alone, as he did the Hogwarts Express. Despite his seeming lack of family, Felix still returns home every summer, more to see Margo than anything else, and he spends his Christmas holidays with Margo.
RP Sample: Well, it was finally time. It was time for Felix’s new life to begin, the life away from his “family,” separated from Margo by more that simply distance. It was time for Felix to start at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The spiky-haired boy stared up at the entrance to The London train station. This was it, total separation. He stuck his hand in his pocket, running his fingers over the worn piece of parchment that set him apart from the rest of his family. His small, pale fist clutched around the ticket to his future. He adjusted the strap of his shoulder bag, which contained a Mahogany wand, some parchment, ink, and quills, and a Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook, before pushing his trunk, which rested on a skateboard, forward.
Upon entering the station, an older gentleman asked if he needed a trolley. Felix simply answered, ”No, thank you, Sir. I can manage just fine on my skateboard. It’s all I really need.” This was the boy’s attitude: Skateboard, lighter, attitude; I’ll be just fine. Felix slowly made his way to the platforms, precariously balancing the wide trunk on the slender piece of wood. He finally can to a halt when he reached platforms nine and ten. He looked conspicuously from one sign to the next, his brow furrowed. Hmmmm… The boy unclenched his fist to look at the ticket that had been sent to him via owl mail. ”Platform nine and three quarters?” He scanned the signs up and down the platform. ”This is bloody ridiculous. There’s no such thing as Platform nine and three quarters.” A young attendant approached Felix from behind, wondering of the small boy was lost. This guy’ll think I’m a loon if I tell him. ”No, Sir. Just on the wrong Platform I guess.” He pushed his trunk a little further down the platform. He remembered reading something about the “Hogwarts Express” in one of the books he got a few weeks prior, but, alas, that book was safely stored away in his trunk.
He stopped abruptly. ”Wait a minute.” He looked around precariously once more, as if he had acute paranoia. The wall. The wall between the platforms. That’s the way to the train. Slowly, he turned the precariously teetering trunk around and faced on of the poles between platforms nine and ten. He scanned the area to make sure no one was watching; luckily, the people of London were too busy with their own lives to worry about a small boy with a skateboard. He carefully, and as quickly as he could, pushed the trunk up against the wall, which seemed to just absorb the contents like a meal. He slid through the wall and came face to face with a shinning red steam engine labeled the “Hogwarts Express.” He loaded his belongings into an empty compartment, not wishing to be disturbed. He flipped up his skateboard and stored it safely on top of his trunk before grabbing his copy of Defense Against the Dark Arts, settling down in a seat by the window, and beginning to read the book he had already read three times over. He was so absorbed in the contexts of his schoolbook that he didn’t notice the train begin to move, nor did he notice that it was beginning to get darker. It had begun, his new life as a wizard.
Just as an added note: The spell check button does not work on any RP sites that I am involved in, and hasn't worked since the EZBoard hack. I'm not that great of a speller, so, I guess, I apologize in advance and pray for forgiveness.
