June 1st - June 19th
It's almost summer! The last few weeks of school have come, and students will need to study hard for their final exams! Don't let up yet, or your grades won't be what you want them to. Of course, the weather is almost perfect and pristine, in attempts to lure students away from their studies.

First Years [Semester 2, Class 1] A Day
Ginny was nervous. So, so bloody nervous, there was no denying it. And anyone who looked at her could probably tell too. Her brown eyes were wide open (almost like a muggle who had just seen a ghost), her hands were sweaty, and she was wringing them together as if there was no tomorrow. How had Ginny gotten herself into something like this? Teaching? Ginny Weasley? A teacher?! Merlin, this was either going to go in a completely awful, useless manner, or everything was going to go positively haywire. She wasn’t quite sure which one was worse, but she wasn’t looking forward to finding out.
The bell rang, ending the first period class. Ginny stood at the front of the room, trying not to look as if she were marching to her death sentence. She closed her eyes and kept them tight, taking in a deep breath. She was going to be okay. They were just first years. There was no possible way that they could take her down and defeat her. Nope, none at all. What could they do? Point their wands at her and scream “Wingardium Leviosa!” Ginny laughed gently at the thought. Really, they were just first years. They were harmless. She was an adult, and she would successfully moderate the class.
The door opened, and her first student entered. She assumed they would all take their regular seats, and then she could continue from there. So far so good, right? Students continued to flow into the classroom, talking amongst each other. Ginny gnawed on the inside of her lip, one of her traditional nervous habits, and when the bell rang to signal the beginning of class, she cleared her throat to speak.
“Good morning, class,” Ginny said in a crisp voice, trying to hide all hints of nervousness, though they could probably smell her fear. They were smarter than a lot of people gave them credit for being. “I’m your new professor, Professor Weasley.” And again, that sounded so bloody weird. If she were normal, she would have gotten married by then so it didn’t sound so weird. A Weasley? Being a professor? Ugh, just nothing fit. Ginny getting married didn’t really fit though either, so take your pick. “There wasn’t much left about how much your previous professor taught you, so I was hoping you could at least give me a brief overview of the subjects she covered, and then we can move on to something more interesting.” Ginny looked around the room, waiting for any raised hands.
[ooc: Okay I know there were like...zero classes when Indreve was the teacher, so let’s just pretend they covered Magical Pre-History. Myths, pre-magical theories and so on. I’ll be writing up a class itinerary soon though so be looking for that! I know you all are SO excited. Haha just kidding.]

Re: First Years [Semester 2, Class 1] A Day
[Ooh, just bouncing in anticipation. But seriously though, that's fun *g* Also, I'm assuming Brid was sent to St. Mungos over the break, if she was sent at all, and now she is on her road to recovery in time for classes to start up again. *g*]
Brid wasn't a fan of history of magic.
Well, that wasn't quite true. It was more than that - if there was any subject at Hogwarts she could say that she detested, it had to be History of Magic. She didn't see what was so interesting about things that had happened hundreds of years ago, especially because in her experience, they couldn't go into the whys and hows of the event, just speculate on what the people back then might have been thinking. She didn't want to know about what someone else thought might have happened, she wanted to draw her own conclusions. Since she couldn't do that when it came to an event she hadn't seen firsthand, she couldn't do it at all. She was interested in what was happening now, not what had happened years ago. It was quite simple in her mind, and as soon as she was old enough - alright, sixth year - she was going to drop the subject as though it was a burning brick.
Bloody hell, this was shaping up to be a brilliant day. At least Charms had been good, despite the fact that her throat was still so sore that she had difficulty speaking the incantations. The Healers said that she was better, at least well enough to attend class without worrying about getting someone else sick, which was good. Being sick had been terrible, especially since it had been over Christmas. But aching all the time, being hardly able to think because her head had hurt so much, and unable to talk because her throat had closed up - that made it that much worse. Plus, the blotches had hurt and itched and... Well, she hadn't had a good time, to say the least. At least the hallucinations had stopped before new years.
Shaking her head, the blonde Ravenclaw grimaced as she pushed open the door to the classroom and took her seat, grinning at the other first years that she knew. She actually knew a surprising number of them, in her opinion, since she figured that she was too much of an introvert to make too many friends. She didn't notice the new professor until the red head began speaking, almost nervously.
“Good morning, class. I’m your new professor, Professor Weasley.”
Yeah, she was nervous. Brid could understand why though, and wasn't sure how many people had actually picked up on it - Brid was too observant for her own good, sometimes. Vaguely, she wondered what had happened to Professor Indreve, but didn't bother asking. It wasn't any of her business, so she didn't bother. Not that that had stopped her before, but what if it was something important, like Puck's animagi business? She was still curious about that, actually, but wasn't brave enough to go ask Puck direction. It was... Puck! She couldn't just do something like that. To Brid, that girl should have been put on a pedestal. Instead, she was tempted to see if she could con Breena into maybe getting in again, or finding out if they could do a bit of sneaking elsewhere. Maybe they'd pick up a spell that would prevent Flint from realizing that they were in his office...
“There wasn’t much left about how much your previous professor taught you, so I was hoping you could at least give me a brief overview of the subjects she covered, and then we can move on to something more interesting.”
After a few seconds, Brid hesitantly raised her hand - she was a Ravenclaw, so she could pull off the smart kid act. Besides, it didn't look like anyone else was going to answer right away.
"Er... We started talking about events that happened a really long time ago -" Well, no way! This is History of Magic after all, genius, Brid flushed a bit and quickly fumbled for a more correct answer. "-like, er - pre-history?" That was what the textbook called it, in any case. Hopefully another one of her fellows would say something even more idiotic, and save her some face.

Re: First Years [Semester 2, Class 1] A Day
Breena glanced down at her schedule, and her face fell. Okay, so she knew that she had History of Magic. Her schedule was exactly the same as it had been the semester before. But honestly, why? Did they just like to torture the students into learning ridiculous things that didn't even matter anymore? Oh wait. They apparently did matter, because those that forget the past are condemned to relive it, or some balderdash like that. What an accusation. Honestly, people weren't going to resort to burning witches and wizards if they forgot about the Salem Witch Trials. As far as Breena was concerned, the human race had evolved significantly since then.
So with much dismay, she sidled into the class, searching for an open seat. The least she could do was take a seat by someone she knew, so it wouldn't be quite so unbearable. What if they had to take notes all period? Endless lectures, droning voices, ugh. The whole thing instilled fear in Breena. Maybe she should just take a seat at the back and get it over with. That way she would be able to catch up on sleep that she hadn't managed to get the night before. A rather inspiring game of gobstones in the Common Room was to blame for that one.
Nixing that idea, Breena caught sight of Brid, and hurried forward to take a seat to the right of her. "Favorite class, right?" Breena whispered to Brid in sarcasm. She strategically placed her hands on her desk, and then dropped her chin to her hands, preparing for a nice long moment of relaxation. She heard that they had a new professor, and hoped that he or she was dense and stupid, and wouldn't care if Breena slept in class. Talk about wishful thinking.
“Good morning, class. I’m your new professor, Professor Weasley.” Breena's eyes snapped up at the red headed professor, and she lifted her hands off of her desk. Weasley? As in Percy Weasley? No way. Were they married?! Who would EVER marry that git? She looked too young to be married to him. And too similar for that matter. But you never know, Percy Weasley, er, Headmaster Weasley could possibly be into marrying young girls that looked just like him. Breena would have to store that thought in her memory and ask it later. “There wasn’t much left about how much your previous professor taught you, so I was hoping you could at least give me a brief overview of the subjects she covered, and then we can move on to something more interesting.”
Breena nibbled on the inside of her lip, and glanced quickly at her nails to make sure the polish wasn't chipping. Oh? Someone was supposed to answer a question? Haha, not Breena. Brid, however, tentatively raised her hand and spoke.
"Er... We started talking about events that happened a really long time ago -like, er - pre-history?" Brid suggested. Oh yes, Pre-History. That had been so bloody fascinating. Cave men ugging and thugging and swinging their bats around until...alas! One of them discovered fire! And then all of evolution began, and then, behold! One of them discovered the wand. Oh really, it was so bloody amusing.
"Yeah we talked about the discovery of the wand, stuff like that," Breena responded lazily. She wanted to say boring stuff like that, but this was her new History of Magic professor. She was probably one of those nuts that had a strange personal affinity for the subject. Talk about having no life.

Re: First Years [Semester 2, Class 1] A Day
Ginny was extremely pleased to see a student raise her hand to answer her question, no matter how tentative it was. A hand was a hand, and she was willing to answer the question. Ginny pointed at the girl, and she started to speak. "Er... We started talking about events that happened a really long time ago -like, er - pre-history?" She offered. Ginny wanted to groan inwardly. Pre-history. That had been absolute murder. It was so bloody boring and pointless that Ginny wondered how she had ever managed to stay awake in that class. Oh wait, she hadn't. She had fallen asleep the moment she walked in her room. Her seat of preference was always at the back of the room. And it was still there. Oh Merlin, the memories. They were all coming back again, flooding into her mind at the least opportune moments. But then again that was sort of expected, wasn't it?
"Yeah we talked about the discovery of the wand, stuff like that," another first year offered, looking positively bored out of her mind. Ginny nibbled the inside of her lip again, wondering just how she was going to get through to these students. It was obvious they didn't want to be in her class at that moment. Ginny knew it was true. There was no denying it at all. But her goal was to at least make them enjoy themselves so they could actually learn something.
"Okay great, thanks," Ginny replied to their answers. "Now that we've got the ancient, ancient, ancient history out of the way, we can get started on other more interesting subjects. In this semester, I plan to cover the International Warlock Convention, the establishment of the Triwizard Tournament, Witch Persecution, and a very famous wizard named Nicholas Flamel. So you can expect that a great deal of your end of term exam will be on these topics, so make sure to pay close attention." Ginny sighed, realizing that they probably hated her. What was she trying to get at anyways? Making best friends with her students? She should have picked a different subject if that was the situation.
"So!" Ginny continued, injecting enthusiasm into her voice. "The International Warlock Convention of 1289! We're going to play a little game for this, and the winner gets a batch of fireworks from the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, compliments of my brothers," Ginny announced fondly. Before class, she had set up little pieces of paper all around the room, with different names of ancient wizards, too old to be mentioned in her opinion (though the curriculum begged to differ) that were involved in the Warlock Convention. Well, twelve of them were involved. Twenty names were scattered around the room. "For this, you'll need a partner, and a sheet of paper that I'm about to hand out. On here, there's a description of the twelve warlocks involved in the International Warlock Convention. Your job will be to go around and match the names to the description. There's twenty names on the walls, and only twelve warlocks were involved, so pick carefully. I understand you may not know a lot of them, seeing as you haven't discussed this yet, but do the best you can." With that, Ginny started to pass the papers around to each student, waiting to see if they had any reaction of any sort toward her little game.
[ooc: I guess since Breena and Brid are the only ones physically there, we get benefit of the doubt and they win no matter what! Woo! Haha, but since it's supposed to be a full class of first and second years, we'll just pretend there's other students there. And I can write up a full worksheet if you want, or we can just make it up as we go along...whichever works. *shrug*]

Re: First Years [Semester 2, Class 1] A Day
((ooc: Apologies for the delay. Stupid RL. And... it's up to you, really. I've got no preference either way, just the HP Lexicon to help me. And imagine what Brid and Breena could do with fireworks... ))
As Professor Weasley went over what they'd be studying throughout the second semester, Brid tried to decide whether or not it was going to get any better. Pre-history had been incredibly boring - she honestly hadn't thought that anything magical could be that boring at the beginning of the term, but clearly she'd been wrong. It didn't make any sense, because most of her other classes were alright; of course, history was... history. How exciting could it be, even if it involved magic? However, she decided that second semester didn't sound so bad. People had died in the Triwizard tournament, right? And witch burnings were fun.
Well, except for the people being burnt.
Shaking her head, Brid glanced at Breena and rolled her eyes, sighing slightly at the thought of what they'd be starting with - the boring stuff, of course. Warlock's Convention? Woo... She honestly didn't care, since it had been so long ago that it couldn't possibly have had any effect on what wizarding society was like now. At least, she had to hope it didn't.
"...We're going to play a little game for this, and the winner gets a batch of fireworks from the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, compliments of my brothers,"
Brid's expression, which had been rather dull and vacant, suddenly changed to one of excitement. She grinned at Breena, already imagining what they could do with fireworks if they won - assuming Breena was willing to partner up with her. The possibilities with fireworks would be endless, though not getting caught would be the hard part; Brid had already had enough detentions according to her parents, and she'd gotten out of like, half of them because she'd been sick. Now that she was feeling better, she was ready to go cause more trouble, though; being cooped up in the hospital wing hadn't been fun, to say the least. For a girl with as much energy as Brid, it had been terrible.
The Ravenclaw girl nearly missed the rest of the instructions, but didn't care much; she could figure them out, and if she'd missed something important, Breena had probably been paying attention. Right? Shrugging, she eyed the paper and leaned over to the Gryffindor girl, whispering,

Re: First Years [Semester 2, Class 1] A Day
[ooc: No problem at all. Well, I looked at the HP-Lexicon and I couldn't find any names of people mentioned that lived before 1500, so I guess I'll just make the first question and name up for now. ]
Breena's eyes also lit up in excitement at the prospect of a batch of fireworks. The Weasley Wizard Wheezes fireworks were classy merchandise! Expecially to a group of first years, who unlike the older students, couldn't go out and buy it. They had to mail order the stuff, meaning it took anywhere from two weeks to two months to finally arrive at the castle. Which also translated into way too long for Breena's short attention span. So she had simply never bothered to order anything, because she knew she would stare out the window waiting for it to come every single day, only to be disappointed a thousand times. But here they were, a set of fireworks just a worksheet away! But Breena didn't know anything about the Warlock Convention. They hadn't learned it yet. Perhaps that was part of the process. Learning, guessing, and hoping that you were right.
"Partners?" Brid whispered to Breena. Breena grinned and nodded in response. She quickly skimmed over the worksheet, hoping that the answers would magically come to her. She really, really wanted those fireworks, after all.
"Okay let's go," Breena said with a grin, stepping out of her seat. "Question number one," she started, reading aloud for both her and Brid. "I was the first person invited to attend the Cheif Warlock convention, but I was outlawed after the first meeting for appearing under the influence of a newfound form of alcohol that I had discovered the night before. Since I could no longer be part of the Warlock convention, I marketed my discovery, and it's now one of the most famous drinks in the wizarding world." Breena raised an eye. Well, this indeed was an interesting way to learn. Get them to know the names of all the Warlocks by including stuff from their personal lives, things that weren't as on the surface.
"What's the name of an alcoholic beverage?" Breena wondered aloud. What had she drank at Armand's birthday party? Firewhiskey? His name couldn't be firewhiskey. "Ogden's Best!" Breena finally exclaimed. "C'mon, we have to find someone with the last name Ogden on here," Breena said with a grin, starting toward the small papers on the wall. She and Brid were going to dominate. She was determined.
Re: First Years [Semester 2, Class 1] A Day
Link was sitting in a seat around the middle of the room, quietly blending into the classroom surroundings. Nothing about his appearance really made him stand out, so he was easily overlooked. This worked in his favor for certain pranks he liked to pull, while at other times he absolutely hated it. His light brown hair fell over his sapphire eyes as he sat down in his seat, and waited for the class to begin.
His robes were completely wrinkled, as he hadn’t found time to do any ironing and the last time he’d worn them he’d allowed them to be thrown into the corner of his dorm, where they sat for a decent amount of time. He rarely paid much attention to small details like that in his appearance; robes were robes, it made no difference to him if they were neatly pressed or not.
As the class began, Link felt a twinge of sympathy for the new Professor. He always came into classes like this with a smile on his face, if only because everybody else seemed to hate this class. Not that he claimed to love History of Magic, but he always pitied the Professor because it was a difficult subject to make interesting.
“Good morning, class. I’m your new professor, Professor Weasley.” Link was very observant, even when he wasn’t trying to be. His mind acted like a sponge for useless information, and while he could barely remember what he ate for breakfast in the morning he could tell you how many candles there were in the Great Hall (3,246 at his last count). He had heard of the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, owned by Fred and George Weasley, and as he saw that Professor Weasley barred a striking resemblance to Headmaster Weasley, he put two and two together and assumed that this must be their sister. Cool. Maybe this Professor wouldn’t be so bad.
“There wasn’t much left about how much your previous professor taught you, so I was hoping you could at least give me a brief overview of the subjects she covered, and then we can move on to something more interesting.” Link, quite honestly, didn’t remember a lot of the stuff they had covered. There hadn’t been an awful lot of it, though… Luckily, Brid fielded the question. "Er... We started talking about events that happened a really long time ago -like, er - pre-history?" Breena, another first year, added, "Yeah we talked about the discovery of the wand, stuff like that,"
Link, again, felt bad for the Professor, as it was apparent that there were a lot more, well, better things they could be doing right then. Nobody really sounded too thrilled either, which wasn’t helping. The poor lady, she seemed so nervous! He wished that he had something positive to add, but he didn’t, so he simply sat there and kept his mouth shut.
"Okay great, thanks. Now that we've got the ancient, ancient, ancient history out of the way, we can get started on other more interesting subjects. In this semester, I plan to cover the International Warlock Convention, the establishment of the Triwizard Tournament, Witch Persecution, and a very famous wizard named Nicholas Flamel. So you can expect that a great deal of your end of term exam will be on these topics, so make sure to pay close attention." Ugg. Mentioning of end of term exams was not what he wanted to hear just then. It was only January! How could anybody be thinking about exams this early into the year? It was a horrible thought that he quickly pushed from his mind.
"The International Warlock Convention of 1289! We're going to play a little game for this, and the winner gets a batch of fireworks from the Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, compliments of my brothers," Oh, now this made things a lot more interesting! This Professor may have been just what Hogwarts needed to make History of Magic a class worth paying attention to. I understand you may not know a lot of them, seeing as you haven't discussed this yet, but do the best you can."
Link nodded slowly as he listened to how the game was played. He didn’t care whether he won or lost, it just seemed like a fun idea. He also hated sitting around and doing nothing, so this was the perfect way to keep his attention and get him moving. Great! He smiled warmly at Professor Weasley as she handed him his paper, and he scanned the room. There appeared to be an odd number of people, and so he took it upon himself to work alone. He didn’t mind, as he hadn’t really made any good friends here yet. With his paper in hand, he set off around the room.
((ooc- if you want him to have a partner, we can just say he paired up with a random girl so that if anyone else joins the thread (as all the other firsties are female) then they can partner up with him, or something. I don’t care. I just wanted to post him, get him going in some classes. ^_^ Breena and Brid can still win, that doesn’t matter to me.))
