Friends in high places?
Petition signature #9225 is that of Kjell Magne Bondevik, who, if his signature is to be believed, is the Prime Minister of Norway. Who'd'a thunk it?

Here's another one: Steven Spielberg, signature number 9281, with the comment "Disney should be ashamed. I would never have permitted something like this." Dare we hope that that's "THE" Steven Spielberg?

Re: Friends in high places?
Hey Numskull, wasn't it mentioned a few months ago on the City On Fire message board that Steve Wang(director of the Mark Dacascos vehicle: Drive)and Wesley Snipes had signed the petition?

BTW,I wish you all the best of good luck with your other petition(the one about foreign movies)as I signed it & also because I am a huge fan of Jet Li and I just hope that Miramax don't screw Hero up as it looks like a classic in the making-just check out the trailer over at www.kungfucinema.com

I am going to try and help you out by promoting the awareness and importance of these two petitions across the web i.e. amongst all the other "mainstream" message boards.

I have indeed seen a lot of these hacked versions of HK movies(e.g. the Jet Li movies)and I still can't believe what they've done to The Heroic Trio, the art cover just screams Charlies Angels wannabe which isn't really the case as The Heroic Trio was an original action movie that still remains impressive due to the creativity used with the miniscule budget, yet they've advertised it as being a typical no brains all brawn action film which will fail to capture the attention of any aspiring newbie(i.e. a member of the mainstream audience).

Out of all of Buena Vista's butchered versions of HK movies,I've seen:Twin Dragons, The Legend Of Fong Sai Yuk 1 & 2, Tai Chi Master, Bodyguard From Beijing, My Father Is A Hero and Fist Of Legend. But I have yet to see what they've done to Project A, Armour Of God 1 & 2, Police Story 3:Supercop, Drunken Master 2, The Heroic Trio, Swordsman 2 and Black Mask.

Does anyone know what the US versions of Jet Li's High Risk and New Legend Of Shaolin are like and what they've done to them?

Don't tell me they've cut the car-in-the-elevator-sequence in High Risk, have they?

Re: Friends in high places?
Black Mask was released by Artisan, and New Legend of Shaolin ("Legend of the Red Dragon") and High Risk ("Meltdown") by Columbia/TriStar. Not Buena Vista. C/TS, at least, is taking the high road now, always releasing Asian films with original titles and language tracks. Sadly, they don't do nearly as many as BV does.

Re: Friends in high places?
Okay, so C/TS now release Asian films with the original titles (i.e. Time and Tide) and the original language tracks, but do they release Asian films with the original credit sequences, the dialogue intact (unlike the Miramax version of Iron Monkey which I have yet to see) and most of all-unedited (because even though a foreign film may not have any scenes deleted, there's always a chance that the film's scenes may have been edited around ala The Legend Of Zu)?

But what I still don't know is what ever happened to the US versions of High Risk and New Legend Of Shaolin?

I know they have different titles and that High Risk's artcover is a topless Jet Li, but what have they changed about the film in terms of dialogue, scenes and credit sequences?

Have they deleted (or edited in parts) the car-in-the-elevator-sequence in High Risk?
