A Google approach to email
Gmail is an experiment in a new kind of webmail, built on the idea that you should never have to delete mail and you should always be able to find the message you want. The key features are:
Search, don't sort.
Use Google search to find the exact message you want, no matter when it was sent or received.
Don't throw anything away.
1000 megabytes of free storage so you'll never need to delete another message.
Keep it all in context.
Each message is grouped with all its replies and displayed as a conversation.
No pop-up ads. No banners.
You see only relevant text ads and links to related web pages of interest.
Re: G-Mail from Google
This was just an April Fools joke As if they'd give each person who registers 1 GIG! You could reregister thousands of times and have a whole HDDs stored on your email accounts

There is a BBC news item here which says that although announced on april fool's day, G-Mail is genuine. Admittedly that was posted on the 1st of april too, but after the 12.00 deadline. Plus they haven't removed the site yet, and purchased gmail.com. Maybe it is real.
[Don't quote me on this when they say it was all a hoax ]
Re: G-Mail from Google
I heard on Dutch TV that this is actually true. The catch, however, is that the google technology will search though your emails, and try to provide you with adverts tailored to your interests, in other words pop ups that are meant to interest you. This has led to people criticising the email systems as intrusive.
