‘Gala’ is an adult Galah that was brought to us from Bellmere on 2 August 2006 by one of our wonderful wildlife carers, and is currently in intensive care. A member of the public found her crawling along the ground unable to fly; we can only assume she was hit by a car.
Dr Che examined her and found severe bruising and swelling to the right side of her head. This swelling and inflammation also involved her right ear canal. The damage associated with her head and ear canal has caused Gala to lose her balance and subsequently she has trouble walking and flying on her own.
Dr Che has placed Gala on a treatment regime that will hopefully correct her condition soon. Gala is also being given IV fluids and is being tube-fed daily. Gala is currently in the intensive care unit at the Hospital but will hopefully make a speedy recovery.
