Getting Used To It (ISO Riley)
Up on the top of the Astronomy Tower, gripping onto the slightly rusted rail that was securely attached to the ancient stone wall for dear life, Philip Colonade stood, back to the wall just a few steps from the doorway to the stairwell. He had chosen to come up here late in the afternoon after classes as the sun would soon be touching the horizon over the mountains. Philip would have felt fine crossing the Gully bridge, but this was a little higher than he was comfortable with.
Edging along the rail every few moments he had been making his way slowly over to the nearest narrow battlement opening so he could force himself to look down. He had spent his first five years taking every class, though grudging many that involved casting magic the first few years as he had not really been a fan of magic. But the one he had avoided up until this year had been flying, which unfortunately for him Professor Evans had finally noticed his multiple absences.
According to the Hogwarts curriculum all students had to pass flying 1-0-1 at least once during their time there and so he would now have to attend and pass flying class. It was for this reason that he now stood gasping in fright and making him grasp the rail tighter still as a strong gust of wind caught his cloak making it flap violently. Off in the distance over the forbidden forest were a couple of broom flyers but they were pretty far off and couldn't be seen clearly especially by Philip who had other things on his mind.
As the sun began to lower itself slowly but surely over the horizon, a pretty blonde Ravenclaw known by the name of Riley Banks climbed, not at a hurried pace at all, the steps leaded up to the Astronomy Tower. Despite her slow speed, her long blonde hair was pushed back by the slight wind movement she caused while walking. Finding it annoying, she decided to tie it back as she was walking.
When she reached the landing at the top of the Tower, she was finishing tying her hair into a comfy ponytail. She briskly, yet still not hurriedly, walked onto the landing, into the middle of the tower. She did not notice, at first, that she was not alone.
When Riley finally noticed another presence, she gasped, "Oh!" She nervously tugged her hair down from it's rather messy ponytail that she'd rushed putting it into. As she recognized who it was, Riley couldn't help the smile that formed upon her face. "Oh... hi Philip," she said sweetly. "Funny seeing you here," she said, and with good reason. She hadn't seen him in quite some time. "Are... Are you all right?" she asked, then noticing the boy's tension.

When Riley came through the door from the stairwell and walked out into the center of the landing having not first noticed that Philip was there and and instead looked out at the landscape, Philip who's attention was also diverted was now watching, Dasher his pet grey squirrel who having vacated Philip's pocket, was scurring around on the battlements a little way from the boy and was now apparently having the time of his life.
Philip gasped in horror as the little creature suddenly appeared to fall over the edge and out of sight giving a long squeak as though falling along way, but his tilted head poked back over the edge a few seconds later, "Stop doing that Dasher!" Philip had cried in relief. So when Riley noticed and announced herself Philip jumped slightly, turning very pale as his head snapped around to see her stand close by, he loosened his grip and wobbled slightly at the knees seeing her melting smile.
"Hi Riley, I'm ..." he said trying to keep himself from adopting a high pitched voice, "I don't come up here often" he said and nodded his head forcefully and gave a somewhat failed attempt at sounding brave when she asked him if he was okay, "Hah, I'm fine." But this could not be less true as a particularly strong gust of wind swept the landing catching the boy who stepped back, uncomfortably pushing himself as close to the wall as he could.

Riley eyed the boy curiously. She had her suspicions of why he was acting and reacting so nervously while up on the highest landing of the Astronomy Tower, which happened to be the tallest of all the towers at Hogwarts.
Riley, having absolutely no problem with heights, casually strolled over to where Philip was forcing himself against the wall behind him. She leaned her elbow upon an edge that acted as a windowsill of some sort, but without the window itself, obviously. It was easy to see that Riley wasn't at all bothered with the fact that they were so far from the earth below.
"Philip," she began, and it was evident in her voice that she was about to question him. "You're not afraid of heights, are you?" she asked asked slowly, almost cautious so she wouldn't sound accusing in any way.
