I really know very little about the game. I did think it was somewhat humorous that, early on, it was being held up by system advocates as one of the games that "proved" how superior the PS2 is, and once it came out, no one talked about it anymore.

I think it just shows that, any game that is too-hyped will typically not live up to that.

I believe there is a Kessen 2 coming in Japan, perhaps it will address issues of the first game.
