IC
Name: Harry James Potter
Nickname(s): The Boy Who Lived, Scarhead, Golden Boy, Saint Potter, Parry Otter, The Chosen One, The Chosen Boy, etc.
DOB: July 31, 1980
Blood: Halfblood
Previous School/House: Gryffindor
Occupation: Former Auror, now trains future Aurors instead
Physical Appearance:
Over the years, Harry Potter had been described as somewhat lanky and thin. He still does have a somewhat lanky appearance, but Quidditch and being an Auror have finally seemed to take their toll on Harry, and he’s filled out over the years and quite nicely as well. Harry stands at a decent six feet and has long arms and legs to support his body. Whether he’s been eating more or simply working out more, Harry has developed some decent muscle tone throughout his body, leaving the previously skinny boy to become a swan. His long limbs are lined with taut muscles that helped him through Auror training and the harsh conditions of keeping that position and his upper body is also developing nicely as well. Although one couldn’t say Harry is completely ripped, he is quite conscious about his body and keeping himself healthy. Of course, due to the fact that the Dursleys fed him the minimal amount when he was younger, he still doesn’t eat that much and barely has any fat on him, leaving him to appear quite fit. Unfortunately, due to his brooding and slightly depressed attitude lately, Harry hasn’t gone out very much and his skin seems a bit paler than usual. Before, he used to slouch a little, but he’s developed more of a slouch now and appears constantly tired, not holding his head as high as he used to.
As it had been before, Harry’s hair is still black and as stubborn as ever. He’s given up trying to flatten it and allows it to grow and sit on his head, wild and untamed as always. Over the summer, Harry seems to have neglected to cut it as much as he used to, and its grown out a little more than it was the year before. Strands of hair now hang over his ears and forehead, on occasion covering the lightning bolt shaped scar that had made him so famous. Although it is mostly the scar that made him so known, Harry rather enjoys having his scar hidden, for it makes people less prone to doing a double-take on him and then staring or running up to him to shake his hand. Covering up his scar almost makes him feel like a normal boy. Of course, his bright emerald eyes are a giveaway to who he is as well. Harry has very distinguishing jade eyes that people who knew his parents quickly identify as his mother Lily’s. And, like his father, Harry wears a pair of thick, black-rimmed glasses over his eyes. Of course, it seems Harry has grown old over the summer and has a tired almost defeated look in his eyes nowadays. His face, like his body, has matured over the years as well, and he no longer has the sort of boyish cuteness he had when he was younger. Harry now looks like a teenager with a thin, squared face and a pronounced jaw line. His lips are on the thinner side, but are a healthy, pale pink.
When it comes to clothing, Harry can’t be considered all that stylish or chic. During his younger years, when not dressed in his Hogwarts attire, he was subject to wearing Dudley’s old clothing, which were all second hand, and often a few sizes too big for him. Although Harry has the money to buy his own clothing now and no longer has to wear a uniform, he seems to have missed the metrosexual bandwagon. His jeans are often faded and worn, having to be secured to his lithe frame by a belt, usually a worn, brown leather one with a different buckle everyday. His shirts are usually faded and old, some even dating back to when he was still attending Hogwarts, though they’re always clean and still in one piece. In fact, Harry still has a lot of clothing from his Hogwarts days and just doesn’t have the heart to throw them away. He hardly ever wears his uniform, but he still has it intact, kept neatly folded in on of the rooms in his house. Rarely does the man ever wear robes when he isn’t required to. He finds them difficult to maneuver in, not to mention he just isn’t the type to put on a robe wherever he goes. Some days, he means to wear one but simply forgets to and, as a result, has many new and custom-tailored robes that have only been worn a few times sitting in his closet.
Personality:
Harry is a rather hard person to understand and seeing as he had been expected to do something that no teenage boy should have had to do, it is understandable. The man has a tendency to be a bit moody and lately, that seems to have increased. Augmented by being forced to grow up too quickly, his stubbornness seems to have only increased and he seems to be getting harder and harder to control. He has larger likelihood of refusing to do something now, and will do it easily without any hesitation when he puts his mind to. In fact, when he puts his mind to anything, he will, in one way or another, achieve it. Despite how frustrating his stubbornness can be, the plus side to it is that Harry is a singularly determined individual. He seems slightly incapable of putting something to the side and once he tells himself he is going to do something, most likely, he will do it. Although Harry has a joking side, there are some things he simply will not joke around about and if he says that he’s going to do something, he will. In this way, the Boy Who Lived is very trustworthy and a promise made by him is a promise kept, for he will do anything in his power to achieve it.
Generally, Harry is a nice enough guy, but at the same time he can be very cruel and biting as well, much in the way Slytherins are. He can’t seem to let certain insults go and if someone dares threaten his friends, there will be hell to pay. Lately, Harry has been getting a lot more brooding and less sociable, making him harder to approach than before. It is clear that he is trying to hide all the pain he is feeling and he tries to act as though he is still the same person, but those that know him well can see right through his mask. Harry is very raw even after all these years and he has many sensitive nerves that could make him explode at any moment. In fact, Harry is quite known for his explosive temper and it seems to have only worsened over the years and it is easier to anger him now, especially if someone manages to touch one of those sensitive nerves. He can get very defensive concerning some things and prefers not to talk about Sirius or the Prophecy at all and would rather just skirt the important things and talk about something else. Of course, lately he seems to be avoiding as much human contact as possible and would rather not hold a conversation with someone. Harry is very distant of the late and oftentimes it will seem as though his mind is elsewhere and he doesn’t concentrate or focus as easily as he had previously.
To Harry, friends are probably the most important thing to him. He has never had a real family and to him, his friends are his family. He cares more about the Weasleys than his own family after all, and holds them very dearly in his heart. Harry will do anything to protect those he loves and cares about and wishes above all else he could somehow keep them out of danger. But he feels he’s already failed in doing that and still completely blames himself for the death of Sirius as well as the countless people who died in the Second War. It is only recently that he finally somewhat accepted that everything wasn’t entirely his fault, though he isn’t the type to just shrug things off. As much as he cares about his friends, Harry is a very compassionate and emotional individual and at times he lets his emotions get the better of him and he takes his friends for granted. At times he can be considered a bit selfish and self-centered, thinking about himself and his destiny and how hard he has it. In fact, it could be said that Harry is jealous of his friends and, in many ways, he is. He knows he can’t ever live a normal life after what happened and although it is the same for his friends, they seem to be able to adjust much better than Harry. Harry still feels like he’s carrying the burden of the world on his shoulders and no matter how much time passes it will never go away.
Although Harry is a Gryffindor at heart, his has many traits of a Slytherin, though most of the time he refuses to admit it. The man is fairly prideful and it easy to rub him the wrong way by saying something about his friends or his family, thus damaging his pride. Harry is not an elitist in anyway and is not as egotistical as some people are, but Harry is the son of James Potter, and he seems to have inherited some of his father’s dignity. The man has also been called resourceful on many occasions and it is true enough. Although Harry may not always thing practically, most of the time his ideas are intelligent and his comebacks can be considered particularly witty. He is street smart and knows how to handle himself. If it weren’t for his strong devotion to his friends, he would be a survivor. Harry is independent and can take care of himself in any type of situation and if anything, works the best under pressure. Pressure and emotion power him and make him stronger and angering him perhaps isn’t the best way to try and defeat Harry Potter. Although anger makes him a bit irrational, added to his extreme will to live and the love of his friends and their love for him, it is clear why he is called the Boy Who Lived.
But since the war ended, Harry has changed very much, both in appearance and personality. Although deep down, he is still Harry Potter, in a way, he isn’t. He’s gotten much detached from people, even from the friends who have helped him through everything he had to suffer through. He doesn’t like serious conversations and would rather just talk about something meaningless instead of getting into things like politics or the past. If anything, Harry is doing his best to run away from those two things, but it seems every time he almost escapes them, they drag him back in. But that desire to escape has lessened lately and it’s almost as if Harry has accepted the fact he will never be normal and it is pointless to try. The fierce determination had somewhat deteriorated and Harry is just a walking shell, if anything. He puts up the charade of being okay, smiling, laughing, and chatting with people when called for, but inside, he feels completely and utterly empty. Many times, he questions his purpose in life, thinking that he’d done what he was meant to do and there was no point to him waiting around to see if there was anything else left for him to do. To him, saving the entire wizarding world (and Muggle world too, probably) and destroying the single most evil man in the universe was a good enough purpose for him. But, even with his slightly depressing mentality, there is a spark of hope in Harry’s mind that perhaps there is something more. Something better. Something to put his restless spirit at rest when he finally meets his end.
History:
Some look at Harry Potter and think, “He was doomed from the beginning.” And perhaps he was. Ever since that fateful Halloween night at Godric’s Hollow, when his parents were murdered and he was bestowed with the lightning bolt shaped scar he’s become so famous for, Harry Potter’s destiny was set. Lord Voldemort had chosen him as his equal, his enemy, and from that day forward, it was prophesied that he would either have to defeat the Dark Lord, or fall at the end of his wand. Of course, few knew about this prophecy, let alone Harry, though nearly the entire wizarding world knew about Harry and what he’d done. The day after the Dark Lord’s supposed defeat, the witches and wizards celebrated, praising the Boy Who Lived, an infant child of one year, nestled on a motorcycle flying high above the continent. Late that evening, the motorcycle touched down near four Privet Drive, Little Whinging in Surrey, the place that he would be raised in as a Muggle for the next nine years of his life. But unbeknownst to little Harry, he was being watched over by one of the most powerful wizard in all of Britain, not to mention he was the most famous person in among a culture he never knew existed until he received his letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
But even before he received the letter (or letters, rather), Harry had experienced bits of magic throughout his younger years. When he was about five, he attended pre-school with his cousin Dudley Dursley, though things didn’t go as well as he had hoped. While Harry had thought school might be fun and that he might be able to make some friends, the other kids just made fun of him for his abnormally large clothing and his taped up glasses. Even the kids who wanted to befriend him couldn’t, unable and too frightened to have to deal with Dudley and his gang to even come close to Harry. As a result, Harry’s childhood was quite lonely and he spent most of the time running away from his cousin and his friends. But it was during this time that he started noticing some odd things. For instance, one time he accidentally turned his teacher’s wig blue, and another time, while he was running for dear life away from Dudley and his friends, he found himself inexplicably sitting atop the school kitchen. Then, five years later while attending his cousin’s birthday party, Harry finds himself looking at a boa constrictor. The snake winks at him and Harry, very confused, finds he can speak to the snake and the snake understands him. But then, after Dudley pushes him away, Harry gazes up at the glass Dudley and his friend Piers were staring through and it suddenly vanished, allowing the boa to escape. On the way home, Dudley and Piers were cooking up wild stories about how the snake almost killed them and Harry, was resentful, didn’t think too much of it; at least not until Piers looked at him and said that he’d been talking to the snake. After that, Harry had to spend the entire rest of his summer locked up in his cupboard.
But it was that summer that things began to get strange and it was that summer that Harry’s life changed forever, and now that he looks back on it, it was a change for the better and for the worse. One day, when Harry was checking the mail, he found a letter addressed to him. That in itself excited the young boy, but his uncle forbade him to open it and Harry was unable to see what the contents said. Of course, young Potter was already getting a few rewards for the letter, as his aunt and uncle allowed him to move into Dudley’s second bedroom, though Harry found he would have much rather seen the contents of his letter than sleep in an actual room for the first time. But there would be more chances. For the next few days, the Dursley’s continued getting letters for Harry, none of which Uncle Vernon would allow him to open, but after a while, it was getting ridiculous. Uncle Vernon had them stay in a hotel for a night and even then, the letters would not stop arriving wherever they went, whether it be a plowed field or a parking garage. Finally, Vernon moved them all to a hut on a rock, thinking no one would ever be able to reach them, but then, Hagrid arrived. Harry had never seen anyone so large before, but the man seemed to know him very well and even brought him a cake for his birthday. The boy was able to finally read the contents of his letter and discovered that he was a wizard, which explained all the crazy things that had been happening and, almost as if to prove it, Hagrid gave Dudley a pig’s tail when he tried to each part of Harry’s cake.
The introduction into the Wizarding World was an amazing time for young Harry Potter. As he walked through an inn in London called the Leaky Cauldron, he was met by hoards of witches and wizards who wanted to shake his hand and introduce themselves to him. Harry, was overwhelmed by all of this, but he didn’t have the chance to experience it for long, for Hagrid told him they needed to get his school supplies, and that was when he first stepped foot into Diagon Alley. They went to a bank and Harry realized just how rich his parents were and discovered that he wasn’t as poor as he thought. Taking some money, Harry went back out into Diagon Alley to buy his things. Hagrid even took the liberty to buy Harry a snowy owl by the name of Hedwig and before they knew it, Harry had his things and the next day, was off to Hogwarts. After Hagrid left him at King’s Station, the boy vainly attempts to find Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, but that seemed much easier said than done, for there was no platform between Four and Three. It was there that Harry met the Weasleys, the family that would soon become like his own family. The Weasleys showed him how to get through the barrier to the platform and soon, Harry was on the train, befriending the younger Weasley known as Ron. They arrived at school together and are sorted into the same house: Gryffindor.
It was during this first year that Harry first got a taste of what he would be dealing with for the next several years of his life, and it wasn’t just the schoolwork. Although that was difficult, Harry managed to survive it, with the help of his friends, Ron and Hermione, but what he never expected was that he would come face-to-face with the man who killed his parents. Through the year, the trio discovered that there was something called the Sorcerer’s Stone and Lord Voldemort was after it. They attempted to tell the professors, but no one believed them and they soon decide that it was up to them to save the Stone. So, along with his academics, Quidditch, and sneaking around with his newfound Invisibility Cloak, Harry was left with the task of beating Voldemort to the Stone and save the Wizarding World. Along with Ron and Hermione, Harry followed who they thought was Snape into the Forbidden Corridor to retrieve the Stone. They overcame obstacles placed by the professors of Hogwarts, but Harry is soon faced with matching Voldemort on his own, without his friends. He discovered that it was not Snape but rather Professor Quirrel who was attempting to steal the Sorcerer’s Stone and, just when he thought he was done for, he defeated Voldemort and Quirrel.
The summer after that first year, Ron and the twins performed a heist, stealing Harry away from his prison in the Dursley household and, as a result, Harry was able to stay at the Weasley’s for the two weeks before school began. It was safe to say the boy was looking forward to a quiet year, but the world wasn’t about to give Harry Potter a break. Unbeknownst to the trio, Ginny Weasley, Ron’s younger sister, had found a diary amongst her things and was beginning to write in it. This diary belonged to one Tom Marvalo Riddle, whom no one knew was the dreaded Lord Voldemort. Through Ginny, Tom was able to unlock the Chamber of Secrets, releasing the monster within to prey upon the Muggleborn of the school. It was this year that Harry also discovered that his talent for speaking to snakes wasn’t as common among wizards and witches as he had previously thought, thus leading many to believe it was Harry who controlled the monster in the Chamber. But it wasn’t so and the trio continued to try and search for the answers and Harry soon came across the diary and discovered that Hagrid had been accused of opening the Chamber before, though that turned out to be a lie. It was indeed Tom who was the culprit and when Harry went down into the Chamber of Secrets, found out that Tom was actually Voldemort and he battled the basilisk for his life. Upon pulling the sword of Godric Gryffindor from the Sorting Hat, Harry was able to slay the beast and, with one of its fangs, destroyed Tom’s diary, thus saving Ginny.
It was in Harry’s third year that he discovered he still had a bit of family left in the world, though it hadn’t started out as such a warm fuzzy feeling. In fact, he didn’t even realize the man named Sirius Black really had anything to do with him. His summer started out quite eventfully, with him running away from the Dursley’s home, boarding the Knight Bus, and going off to the Leaky Cauldron after blowing up his Aunt Marge. Harry had thought he was done for, for the use of magic was not permitted by underage wizards, but, surprisingly, he was let off. The Weasleys and Hermione soon joined him at the Leaky Cauldron and Harry spent his time in and around Diagon Alley before going off to school again. But the thoughts of Sirius Black were heavy in his mind as he’d heard the man was a mass murderer and an agent of Lord Voldemort. He had escaped from Azkaban, something no one had been able to do, and was no at large. Halfway through the year, Harry discovered that Sirius had been best friends with his father and that he had betrayed his parents to their death. Later, he discovered that Remus Lupin, his new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, was friends with James Potter as well, not to mention a werewolf. But after a bit of a struggle, Harry was told that Sirius was not who Harry thought he was and it was actually Peter Pettigrew, disguised as Ron’s pet rat Scabbers, who had betrayed his parents. But before they could get Peter to the Ministry officials, Remus became subject to the full moon and Peter escaped, leaving Sirius with the blame. But, with Hermione’s timeturner, they were able to save Sirius as well as the wrongly accused hippogryff Buckbeak, and Sirius escaped into the night, leaving Harry with the warm sense that there was still someone out there who cared about him.
After discovering the fact he had a godfather, Harry was quite pleased and it was safe to say his summer was going quite well. With a so-called fugitive for a godfather, his aunt and uncle were willing to give him whatever he asked for and thus, was able to attend the Quidditch World Cup with the Weasleys and Hermione. But things weren’t so fine and dandy, for the campsite was attacked by Death Eaters and the Dark Mark appeared in the sky, telling all in whose name the deed had been done in. Upon arriving at Hogwarts, the surprises didn’t stop, unfortunately for Harry. The Triwizard Tournament was being held at Hogwarts and two other schools, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang arrived and it was announced that one champion from each school would be chosen to compete in the tournament and that no underage wizards were allowed to participate. Of course, despite not wanting to compete and despite not putting his name in the Goblet of Fire and despite the fact three champions had already been chosen, Harry’s name was spit out from the Goblet, naming Harry the fourth champion. Although Harry insisted that he hadn’t put his name in the Goblet, Ron became jealous and the two soon were estranged and Harry was forced to endure the first task on his own. Luckily, he and Ron make up after the first task and the trio work together to try and get Harry through the next two tasks alive. Harry does manage to do so, while also discovering that his feelings for a certain Cho Chang were becoming more and more evident. He attempted to ask her to the Yule Ball, only to discover that Cedric Diggory, the other Hogwarts champion, had already asked her.
The third task was by far the most challenging, and Harry ran into the maze, not sure of what to expect. He ran into a few frightening creatures, but the most frightening of all was the bewitched Viktor Krum who was attacking the other champions. Harry managed to save Cedric from being attacked and afterwards, the two were off in their separate directions. But they met up once again, this time to face a giant spider that was between them and the Triwizard Cup. Together, they managed to defeat the spider and while Cedric reached the cup first, he hesitated before telling Harry to take the cup. In the end, they ended up taking the cup together and soon discovered it was a portkey. Cedric was immediately killed and Harry was aghast to find that it had all been a set up for Voldemort to get to him and with Harry’s blood, the Dark Lord rose again. But when the two of them dueled, their wands connected, being brothers, and Harry saw the spirits of all the people Voldemort had killed with his wand, including his mother and father. They managed to give Harry enough time to escape with Cedric’s body, but Harry was a mess. He reappeared clutching the corpse of Cedric Diggory, screaming that Voldemort was back. Of course, it was only afterwards that Harry discovered no one really believed him.
Harry’s fifth year was a horrid one, what with everyone thinking him a crackpot and Umbridge as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. He was already quite pissed off with the Order of the Phoenix for leaving him to fend for himself and being expelled from Hogwarts for a short time for trying to save Dudley from Dementors and the knowledge that even some of his friends looked at him warily was not what Harry wanted to deal with. Hermione soon came up with a plan to start something of a Defense class with Harry teaching, since Umbridge obviously wasn’t doing anything for them. Reluctantly, Harry agreed and thus, Dumbledore’s Army was born. They trained and met frequently in the Room of Requirement and it was even because of those meetings that Harry was finally able to kiss Cho, but it seemed the relationship was doomed from the beginning, not to mention Harry had much more important things to worry about. He started having to take Occlumency lessons with Snape, which didn’t go as well as either of them planned, and in the end Harry simply quit altogether, leaving him with nightmares and visions. It had been these nightmares that had led Harry to think Sirius had been taken captive by Lord Voldemort and he along with a few others from Dumbledore’s Army went down to the Department of Mysteries to save him. Of course, the dreams were not real visions at all and Harry had put all of his friends in danger. The Order arrived to battle with the Death Eaters and amongst the chaos, Harry watched in horror as Bellatrix Lestrange kill Sirius.
Although the Ministry now believed Harry’s allegations that Voldemort was back, the boy spent most of the summer brooding and being miserable about the death of Sirius, not to mention the inevitable battle that was fast approaching. How could he, a boy, be expected to defeat one of the most powerful dark wizards of all time? But by the end of the summer, Harry had accepted what was to happen and accepted that he could possibly die. He told himself that everyone, eventually, would meet their end if he was to meet his end by the wand of Voldemort or the Death Eaters, he would at least take as many of them with him as he possibly could. Thus his sixth year began, much different than the rest. People started to really notice him and even the girls began to notice him much more, though Harry was hardly flattered by it. Instead he spent his time contemplating whether Draco Malfoy was a Death Eater and attending Slug Club meetings, which he was a bit reluctant to attend. The year continued and Harry began to notice an attraction between Hermione and Ron and realized his own attraction to Ginny when he walked and Ron walked in on her kissing Dean Thomas. While trying to figure out what Draco Malfoy was doing in the Room of Requirement with lookouts, Harry found his attraction to Ginny increasing and finally, ended up kissing her after a Quidditch game. But like his relationship with Cho, the relationship was doomed from the beginning, what with Harry having to do what the prophecy foretold. After Death Eaters raided the school and Harry watched Dumbledore murdered before his eyes, he finally realized that his time would soon come as well and he couldn’t keep anyone close to him. Painfully, Harry broke things off with Ginny and informed Hermione and Ron he wouldn’t be coming back next year.
Of course, once Hogwarts reopened, Harry was forced to come back and it was during that year that he began shutting out everyone from his life. He even became distant to Ron and Hermione, disallowing them to help him or comfort him. He began obsessively studying, immersing himself in charms and defense books in a mad attempt to learn everything he could. He armed himself with the most advanced and dangerous of spells, but even that didn’t seem to be enough to stop the attack on Hogwarts. Many students perished in the fight and that seemed to tear Harry up inside even more and he tried to continue to push his friends away, but in the end, discovered that he even though he would have to defeat Voldemort on his own, his friends would be there for him. Thus, the next time Voldemort attacked, Harry was ready, or so he thought. He lost his wand in the duel and ran frantically, rummaging in Dumbledore’s former office for anything he could use and finally took up the sword of Godric Gryffindor -- the sword that had helped him defeat Voldemort in the past. With it, Harry managed to strike down Voldemort for good and finally, the prophecy was fulfilled.
But that wasn’t the end for Harry Potter and despite the fact deep down, he knew it wasn’t, he convinced himself that it was. He told himself that his chapter in the story was done and he deserved to have a long rest now, but it seemed some were not as optimistic as he was. Ginny soon approached him about it and what started out as a simple conversation turned into an argument that sent Harry storming away. He graduated on bad terms with Ginny and never saw her after that fight, though in his heart, she knew she was right. There were many times he wished he could have gone back to her and asked for her forgiveness, but he couldn’t get himself to.
After graduating, Harry went to go train as an Auror as he said he would and, after he graduated from Auror training, became a full-blown Auror. He thought he would be happy with the job and he thought everything would work out, but it didn’t. Harry soon discovered that there was no way he was going to be able to live a normal life and there was no way he could just forget the past eighteen years of his life. Although the scar on his forehead was beginning to fade, the mental and emotional scars would never go away, not to mention he would always be the Boy Who Lived. People wouldn’t stop coming up to him and gawking at him and he soon became a liability for the Aurors, for everyone seemed to want to approach him. Harry tried his best to conceal himself, but it seemed everywhere he went, someone recognized him. So, after several years of trying to escape from the fame, Harry resigned from his position as an Auror. Despite being a liability, Harry had been a superb Auror and the Ministry was reluctant to let him go, but they did and Harry soon wandered off to find a quiet life somewhere else. Although Grimmauld Place was given to him after the Order of Phoenix disbanded, Harry refused to live there. He soon found himself in Godric’s Hollow, where the graves of both his parents and Sirius had been set up and purchased a small cottage in the Muggle village. He lived there in solitude, hardly going out to mingle with the locals and became somewhat of a legend among the children there. But from time to time, Harry would come out and the rumors that he was some hideously deformed creature was dispelled, only to reemerge a few months later.
Although Harry was content not to return to the Ministry, he received a letter a few months later asking him to return. Of course, he wouldn’t return as an Auror, but rather as a trainer. The Ministry knew about Harry’s Dumbledore’s Army and knew he was a successful teacher as well as a successful Auror. Reluctantly, Harry accepted the job and is now dreading the prospect of returning to the life he had tried so hard to run away from.
Roleplay Sample:
A cool breeze drifted through the cemetery. The trees rustled in the distance and the sounds of the town could be heard faintly if one listened hard enough, but aside from those, the field was quiet and tranquil. The cemetery of Godric’s Hollow was a small plot of land, perfectly suited for the small town with only a few gravestones and statues marking the resting places of the dead. In the center of the grassy field were three tombstones, all set next to each other. They weren’t particularly large or imposing, but there was an air or regality about those three markers, as though they ruled over the rest. The one in the center, the king, bold and brave. To its left, the queen, fair and true. And on the far right, the knight, brash but loyal until the bitter end. Those three tombstones seemed to sit there, watching over and protecting the rest of the spirits, keeping away those with ill wishes and vengeance.
It was those three tombstones that had brought Harry Potter out of his cottage and to the cemetery. He was dressed in his robes and he’d both shaved and cut his hair, leaving him to look much more clean cut than he had in the past few months. He’d spent those few months sitting in his cottage brooding and holed up, after all, not wanting to venture out into the world. Harry had had enough of the world and he felt as though the world had had enough of him. His will to live had faded, just like the brilliant green of his eyes and the prominent scar on his forehead. He felt like he was no longer Harry Potter and felt like he didn’t have a reason to be Harry Potter anymore. Harry Potter had done what he was supposed to do, right? What else was there left for him? But despite that mentality, it seemed the world wasn’t done with him after all and was determined to drag him back, and so was the Ministry of Magic. They had sent him an invitation to come back. That was probably what Harry hated the most about magic; it made the possibilities endless, meaning even a person who didn’t want to be found would, eventually be found. Harry hadn’t done a major job trying to hide himself after all, not thinking anyone would actually come looking for him.
One hand in his pocket, the other clutching a bouquet of flowers, Harry slowly approached the three gravestones and smiled faintly. For a moment, he didn’t say anything and listened to the wind and watched the tombstones.
“Hey, Mum, Dad, Sirius,” he finally said. “I brought you some flowers, Mum. Lilies. Roses are overrated.” Harry tried to laugh as he placed the flowers on the ground in front of the grave marker of Lily Evans Potter. He then turned to the graves of one James Potter and Sirius Black and grinned. “Was going to get you guys flowers, too, but I thought you’d think I was a pansy if I did. Men don’t need flowers, right Dad?” At this, he did manage somewhat of a strangled laugh. Even after all these years, it was hard for him to talk to and about his parents and even Sirius. Especially Sirius. Harry had actually talked to Sirius and grown to love him. The man had become like a father to Harry and to see him murdered before his eyes because of a mistake he had made had been one of the hardest things for the young man to witness. And thinking about it reminded him of all the lives that had been destroyed, whether by their own deaths or the deaths of those close to them, and all because of a prophecy that had been written about him. People always tried to assure Harry that it was the fault of Voldemort, but hadn’t Harry had a hand in the massacre as well? People had died for him.
Harry blinked back a few tears and managed a weak smile. “Sorry I haven’t been around as much lately. I’ve been busy.” A pause. “Okay, that’s a lie. I just couldn’t get myself to come over here, I guess. I wanted to, but-“ Harry hesitated and shook his head. It was so hard. It had been hard enough for Harry to deal with the death of his parents and knowledge of who had done this, but now that he actually had graves to see it was as if everything was real. Without them, he could have gone on just not thinking about it, but there was now visible and tangible proof of their demise. But Harry supposed it fate that he came back to Godric’s Hollow. It was something that would have happened eventually and it was something that he had to do.
“So, the Ministry sent me a letter,” Harry continued. “They want me back, apparently.” He grinned, imagining Sirius huffing indignantly and telling him that he should just tell the Ministry to bugger off. “I know I should just tell them to sod off, but I need this job. Hell, I want this job. I can’t just keep being a recluse and rot in my house for the rest of my life, right? Maybe this is what can save me. Besides, it’ll be like old times with Dumbledore’s Army. The Ministry wants me to be an Auror trainer. Imagine that, huh?” Harry paused, glancing down at the gravestones. A gust blew, whipping his robes wildly around and sending a few of the petals from the bouquet of lilies flying through the air. “Well, I guess that’s it for now. I promise I’ll come back more. To tell you how work is going once I start.” Harry smiled and turned to leave but as he took a few steps, he suddenly paused and slowly turned around. There were tears in his eyes and he smiled gently. “I love you guys.”
