Help from GMs
I hope that with this post I am posting from both sides of the view. I once camped an infamous when you need her, more often seen when you are an alt, NPC by the name of Quillmane. I camped her night and day for 3 weeks straight. I had guildies camp it and had a friend camp it for me. They camped it 24/7. One day, she was so nice as to bless me with her grace but I was asleep and on auto follow with a ranger that killed her and she was able to loot the cloak for MQ later as I was fast asleep. Well, to avoid any problems, i.e. MQ being nerfed (I know there would REALLY be a crap storm if this happened) we continued to camp this just in case. Now I am a Mage, 55th Chapter so I...kinda sorta need this for a thing called an Epic.

Now I will leave the usual Mage vs Verant/SoE (or whatever your real name is) alone. There are issues with this portion of the magician's epic quest that need to be addressed, i.e. Quillmane's appearance and loot table including the cloak being rarer than the famed Mayong Mistmoore (that guy still has faction? Pfft, I would pay just to get killed by him as I have yet to see him in game).

Anyway back on topic, I petitioned because I had just completed part of the quest and it was now day 4 hunting Quill (the part involving getting the Power of the Orb), and was kinda leery about something. Now I had read the tome and read several sites and thought to myself, "It says in plain writing that I should surrender this tome to the Master of Fire so by golly before I leave his presence, I will give it to him". Lo and behold I gave it to him. I was expecting that usual accompanying sound of trumpet followed by "You have gained experience!" , painted in gold. Boy was I wrong. I got no such clue and the guy kept grinning at me like that cat that swallowed the goldfish.

I got a really sinking feeling that although I had followed the quest to the letter, I had done something wrong. It would not be so bad if it were easy in terms of time (i.e. an hour max) to get the torn pages from Najena and then the pages from Kaesora, Kithcor *shudders*, and Unrest (I died there when the group below me agroed the WHOLE basement and decided to succor to North Karana. Ya know, I TOLD them I would be above to let me know if they needed help or warn me of trains...sighs*), but it is not that easy. Kithcor in itself scares most, hehe. I petitioned the guide and gave her the exact location of the turn in, read to her the last line of the tome, and any other information I thought was helpful (we all know that you cannot fit so many details in that one lil petition space. my details would have taken up 3 or 4 petitions as I try to provide it all in hopes of a faster turn around. i also recorded my /loc because hey, this is skyfire. i hear horror stories about this place and wanted to come to this exact spot and wait for this NPC again.)

After reviewing my response I was contacted by a GM because I was requesting that the tome be returned to me if possible and within the limits. (I do understand there are limits). Upon responding she did do the standard ,"Greetings Sirulus, GM La-ti-da here, how can I help you" so I had to type it out again but I did not care because I was on /auto and could type freely (unlike that one time on gnoll hill where the ranger had to kill the gnolls and keep me alive, lol. that was the day i fell asleep). She took the problem in and after talking a bit she was silent. Not more than 3 minutes (probably less) she popped up in front of me and handed me my tome. I was all /grovel and she was like, "dude it is okay" and I was like "No" /grovel. She made me renew my vigor in pursuing my epic (I was ready to quit the epic because of that and Quillmane was still gonna leave me a 'virgin'). So ends part one of my eval of GMs.

Part 2 involves that *insert bad name* Quillmane. She did NOT spawn for me again and I actually stayed up 3 days straight on my weekend off (holiday weekend). I also noticed that some mobs and quest NPCs i.e. Brother Qwin appeared to be broken. Bro Qwin was stuck in the same spot twirling and doing a Texas two-step for FOURTEEN hours! Now those that have monkies or know monkies know he is like a lvl 60 NPC required to do the epic. A lot of monks came and went outta the zone speaking to him but that was all. I would not have thought it odd had it not been such a looooooooooooong time between sightings of Quill and also that he was stuck in precisely one, (note I say 1) of the spawn spots that Quill usually pops. I /petition to get him fixed and moved so that Quill will pop and nothing happened.

Now I am not saying that he can't be up at the same time as Quill because I know it is possible for him to be, and I have done the whole kill the whole zone thing (at first ppl were /con apprehensive and a bit abusive when I did that. An /ooc "Trying to start the spawn cycle for Quillmane, I apologize if I unintentionally KS. This is week 3 for me with little sleep and getting desperate" got me an /ooc "what do you need to kill, mebbe we can help" netted me nearly an entire zone (38 ppl) helping me. I never did get Quillmane and to this day I get /tell and /ooc as well as /say and /shout asking if I got it yet. I sigh and reply, "sadly no" then go /cry in a corner.

Now my meat about GMs is this: NO GM responded at first, not even a Guide. Then when a response was granted, they insisted the zone was fine. (note that not too long, maybe a half hour later, Brother Qwinn was on the move again and doing his normal circuit. I just left the zone and gave up on my epic (this was about 4? months ago). I do not really believe that the GUIDE that responded was either not feeling particularly inclined to help out, or they were not equipped to do detailed research. Either way they forwarded my /petition up, and I got nada. So I was like all >/shrug.

Part 3 involves me being stupid on a JBoot quest. I was misinformed and overpaid the stupid gnome, Hasten Bootstrutt and he got 5000gp instead of 3250gp. I lost everything but thought, ah ha! and I /petitioned. The next day after being bummed, I logged in and when I checked inventory I had the ring of the ancients back (as you know, a pain in the arse to get although it only took me 5 hours). I am like all stoked so I /petition and thanked them and they /rt just be careful next time.

Part 4 is shorter still and involves a recent server wackage that left me dead in the Nexus. I got pulled up in the air and dropped for 200,000 points of damage. I made a very loud death. Everyone was like /ooc, /shout /say /tell "how the hell did that happen", and "dude this guy just got crushed by the nexus /cry" and "omg my ubah mage is dead". Well okay, not quite so much praise but MANY people noticed. I /petiton and got no response so I was almost tempted to take a 50% rez from a PC but then another PC logged their clr in to click me a 96%. I then /delete petiton and all was well in Norrath again. The air was fresher, the grass had greener pixels and I was 54 again.

All in all there have been times where I was lucky as hell and that one time (pending 2 with that rez situation) that I was not too happy with the service. But being in a somewhat customer service type job (okay that is not too close to what I do for I serve in the U.S. Marines), I can understand some of the delay and inability to help. I can understand the not wanting to get off your butt will come with the job. (I will but have seen some just laze around) But gee whizz, after 5 petitions from me, some from my ranger friend (former ranger friend, Jenny Jones/Jerry Springer-ish story to follow - my fiancee did not like her.), and some from people in the zone WHY OH WHY DON'T YA CHECK THE DAMN /log and also get a GM or even a SUPERVISOR to check things out just in case you can I dunno, make a spawn happen? Remember, at this point, I was jonesing just to SEE the damn pegasus. I did not ask for the loot to include the cloak. Hell, I woulda prolly been upset if they just let it pop for me. BUT DAYUM! Could I at least get to see it fall before me or see the damn thing despawn just after I had witnessed it's appearance?

Ahhhh...I am done. Basically take all GMs and people in general with a grain of salt. Sad as it is and FREAKING ANNOYING as it is, you just have to /petition higher. If they do not respond and you are really pissed, ensure your facts are true, straight and in order. Then in a carefully composed manner go up the chain. You can go all the way to SOE (like they give a rat's ass at first BUT you can get something started if enough players come in with VALID complaints). I am sure it will help in the long run. Just try to keep sane, live well (in Norrath) and die with honor, dignity, and a Cleric, Necro, Rogue, and Bard either in your arsenal or in your /who all friend list.
