Hilary Duff / Pure Greed!
Hilary Duff, the teen that played the very successful "Lizzie McGuire" ditched that show and any future movie sequals because she (her parents) were demanding 100K per episode. ABC/Disney balked. Now she's unemployed and trying to get a gig at CBS - here's the story from Zap2it.com:
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - This is a long way from "Murder, She Wrote."
CBS has signed a deal with teen star Hilary Duff to star in a sitcom pilot targeted for the 2004-05 season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Outside of a guest appearance on ABC's "George Lopez," it would be the 16-year-old's first foray into network primetime.
No writers have come aboard the project, which will most likely take the form of a family sitcom. Duff's mother, Susan, will serve as an executive producer.
Duff's deal with CBS comes about six months after she parted ways with the Disney Channel, where she played the title role in "Lizzie McGuire" and became a huge star among the 9- to 14-year-old "tween" set. Her departure from Disney scuttled plans for an ABC series that would have followed Lizzie in high school.
Plans for a sequel to "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" also fell apart when Duff left Disney.
The WB aired a music special tied to Duff's 16th birthday in September and has plans for a holiday special featuring her as well.
A sitcom starring Duff would probably attract a good number of young viewers to CBS, which has long had the reputation that it caters to older audiences. Shows like "Survivor" have helped attract more young adults, but the median age of CBS viewers (52.2 years old for 2002-03) is still higher than that of any of the other broadcast networks.
