Hopped on the black soap train!
My face is breaking out like crazy, so I thought I might start on the black soap. I ordered the sample pack from nasabb.com (took a little plying through the site to find that sample, though!). It's free, but you pay $4 S&H.

The amount of lather from that little soap was so surprising! Just a couple rubs, and you can wash your whole face. It even smells good, if I recall correctly. If anyone has tips for using this soap, let me know. I'll post again in a week or so to let everyone know if and how it worked :)

I love black soap. I use it twice a day followed by a gentle scrub, toner and then either a mask or moisturizer. at night I use Nasaabs shea butter moisturizer and in the day time I use something with spf. at first the black soap did dry my face but now it's as if I've aclimated to it and my face no longer gets that dry stretched feeling. I am so hooked on black soap. my skin is so much better now. I used to have really bad breakouts but now it's rare that I do! I'm going to give them out as Christmas presents, I love it so!

hey, put me on that early christmas list, please! The little black soap does dissolve very quickly! :lol Thanks for all the tips. When I used black soap the second night, I decided not to put any moisturizer at all. I liked the way my face felt without any gunk on it. I hope this isn't a destructive action; like maybe regardless of how I feel, my face needs moisture and not putting in could be bad.

I do use the Olay complete with SPF we talked about! It absorbs really quickly and sometimes I can only tell it's there by backtracking my day and realizing I did put on the moisturizer! :) But that sun is harsh, I couldn't imagine going out in the daytime without an SPF moisturizer on my face...

I bought some lemon juice from concentrate for my food. I couldn't really taste it in the food so I'm thinking maybe I could use that for a toner?

I sometimes forget to moisturize my face and so far no adverse effects. I also added lemon juice to my toner (rosewater/witchhazel) and I either use fresh or concentrate. I like it.

Re: Hopped on the black soap train!
When using something other than the pure black soap, it will typically have something moisturizing added into it. So you can get way with not using a moisturizer always with it. Especially if your skin leans towards normal or oily. With pure black soap, someone with skin that leans more towards dry will want to use a moisturizer with it regularly.

For really oily skin, pure black soap is excellent for cutting through the oil and cleansing the skin. Other types of skin may get dried out too fast unless something moisturizing is added to the soap or a moisturizer is used as part of the skin care regimen.

What is added to it also needs to be compatable with the skin type.

Thanks!
Thanks, ladies! The big bumps on my face that were visible from a mile away have all dissapeared. I do have a few tiny little bumps now, though. Especially on my cheeks, where I typically never have breakouts. Overall this is the best result I've ever had with any cleanser. I think I'll start to add the other stuff to my regimen

By the way, Godzooki, why do you use a gentle scrub after the black soap?

I actually got the suggestion from Hennajoy who helped me with trying to put together a regime. At first I too thought "why do I need to use a scrub after washing with soap everytime?" but I must say its been very beneficial. I have not had a breakout in a long time! my skin tone looks way better. more even and glowy. It really helps with black and whiteheads. Just make sure its really gentle. I use Avalon organic enzyme scrub and I really like it.

black soap
I just received my shipment of the black soap sample pack since ya'll talk so highly of it. I'm already using Dr Murad but b/c of my experience w/the acne kits and all..I'm already knowing it'll be a little over a year b4 I get haunted again so I'm trying to slowly but sure convert to natural skin care regimes so once Murad stops working I won't know and I can just bump it out of my regimen. So right now my regimen is as follows:
Morning:
Wash with Murad Clarifying Cleanser
Exfoliate with Dermalogica Daily Microexfoliant
Then use Murads Exfoliating gel (I don't know why they call it an exfoliate it's liquidy and you just rub it in your skin and leave it on ??)
Then I put on the Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion

Night:
Wash my face with Black soap
Apply the Refined Shea Butter
Then dab on Murad's Spot Treatment

Once a week I am steaming my face with chamomile tea to unclog pores

I also incorporated prenatal pills, pantothenic acid and evening primrose oil pills for multi-vitamins overall hair and skin healthiness
By taking these vitamins I am drinking approximately 4-6 glasses of water a day.
I also drink about 2 cups of green tea a day.

I'll update everyone as to whether or not this is working for me. The overall plan is to bump the black soap to morning and nite and use the Dermalogica daily exfoliant in the morning following the black soap and use the refining shea butter to moisturize (I have real oily skin)
And continue w/my weekly steam facials as well as taking my vitamins.

P.S. i've noticed that by drinking more water, my skin has been less oily as well. I plan to up my water intake to a gallon a day (slowly but surely)

;)

Re: black soap
Sounds like a really well thought through and thorough regimen. Due update regularly. I see from your other post that the red bumps disappeared and that you are pretty pleased with the effect of the Murad right now. Good to hear. Nothing like finding what works...:)

Black Soap
Hi Khivey,

I hope this message will serve as an encouragement to you.

I was using Proactiv for 4 years. To say the least, I did get good results from it, however, I noticed that it made my complexion appear darker, my face was dry at times, and did not feel normal. After a while my face just got immuned to it and I would get occasional breakouts. I also tried Murad for 4 months and just hated it. That stuff made me look like an alien, literally!

After all my unsuccessful attempts, I decided to let God solve the problem for me. I said to myself that I was going to use God made products (natural) no more crap on my face! I then did a google search and discovered Nasabb. I was able to get ample information about African Black Soap, Shea Butter, etc...

I have been using the black soap (wash 2X day), exfoliate with sugar or oatmeal (in combination with my black soap for greater lather), unrefined shea butter (moisturizer), and will include a facial steam (boiled water towel over my head) 3X a week. I am finally happy!

My complexion is finally glowing and my skin looks normal. I have oily skin, I used to have severe acne, cystic acne I might add. It left dark spot on both side of my cheeks. Proactiv was unable to help fade them. I had to be smart about my acne problem. Why should I use products that cost me so much money and get half the results. With the black soap regimen, I have had faster results in 3 weeks than I ever had using Proactiv for 4 years. The trick about Murad, Proactiv, ect.. is that once you stop using them your acne comes back. Take it from me sister, The black soap really works!. I am the biggest skeptic you will ever know, it works. You will breakout at first for couple of days ( its normal).

I am so happy with this discovery. It is imperative that I share this with you. I wish I had someone tell me this before investing so much money into stuff that doesn't really deliver what they promised. I am not trying to put Proactiv down, it just did not works for me. I am sure, some have had great results with it. However, I am proud to say that I went all natural with my cure. I encourage you to do the same.

Do not forget to drink plenty of water.

Re: New Member
Hi Island Sun...

And welcome...:D

I think that some people find African Black Soap drying. But for African Americans with skin that tends towards oily...especially that t-zone...African Black Soap truly works wonderfully. I mix various herbs and essential oils that are suited for my skin and other herbs and essential oils for various skin types with African Black Soap in order to taylor it to meet specific needs.

Not one to typically give out my sources...:rollin but I found a supplier of African Black Soap who sells it $5.00 a pound with a five pound minimum. That is the best price I have found yet for small quantities. Anyone interested, I'll provide the contact info. If you are into playing with the pure soap to tailor it for your skin with your own essential oils, herbs or butters, their soap is great and so is the price.

Steaming, exfoliating, a mask and the right moisturizer. Those things will do wonder for our skin. I firmly believe that so much of the problem people have with skin has to do with what the skin has been exposed to in terms of products. Welcome to the world of doing it naturally.

black soap
Hi Island Sun,

Thanks so much for your reply. The funny thing is we've both encountered the same thing. Except I just started using Murad, but Pro Activ didn't work for me, (only for 2 yrs) and The Dermatologist only helped me for 2yrs. I think I am going to start just using black soap and shea butter unrefined. It doesn't make my skin at all oily and yes I agree that all those skincare products only last for so long and cost you lots of money. I really ain't feeling Murad, although it hasn't did nothing extravagant to my face it took away the underneath bumps and the bigger than small bumps. But I have little rash like red bumps that come and go every other day w/this product>: Anyways, I have been seeking natural skincare products b/c I truly believe that would be the answer. I never had cystic or nodule like bumps. I just get the small bumps and then they leave dark marks when they vanish ugghhh! I think I am going to stop using the Murad b/c it always leaves me with a burning sensation for like 5 mins after washing and everything ?? I believe it to be too harsh. I've been learning a lot of new great ideas on this forum. THANKS TO ALL FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCES.

Now, you say the black soap breaks you out first? I've started using it only at night and it seems pretty good. I will definitely take your advice and go w/the black soap 2x and the unrefined shea butter. I was also thinking about making a toner of some kind. I heard lemon juice is good ???? I've been drinking lotz of water and tea and have notice my skin not being very oily at all which is good:) Thanks!

temporary breakouts
Yes,

I think that because my acne had never completely disappeared after using Proactiv and Murad, now, the bad stuff is trying to find a way out.

I broke out, and still am while using the black soap because the real work is being done. It's not the terrible type of breakout (not that there is a type of good breakouts!) but, somehow you just know and feel like your skin is getting better. You have to be patient and let the soap cure the problem. Granted, it's only been 3 weeks and I know that my face is getting better. My dark spots are really fading already. I will continue to share my progress with you and hopefully you as well. I feel you! when it come to the topic of bad skin. I am sure you just want to have the smooth skin you once used the have back. I to!

I forgot to mention on my previous posting that I do use a toner. I use witch Hazel 2x day. I have tried the lemon stuff you mentioned, let me tell you, I did that after exfoliating with sugar and girl! I was dancing like a chicken (it was burning like crazy!) so i just stick with the witch hazel toner.

I will fill you in periodically.

black soap
Hi Island Sun
Well I've been using the black soap twice a day now and i follow with fresh lemon juice drops on a cotton ball and wipe it over my face (it doesn't burn me) even after I exfoliate w/Dermalogica Daily Microexfoliant that I use once a day in the morning after washing w/black soap. One thing I've noticed since I've put the Murad to the side is that the little red/rash like bumps disappeared so we'll see what happens with this routine after a few weeks. I just ordered a fresh shipment of black soap. In addition I started to eat a lot of Salmon (good for your skin) and salads and drink so much water and tea. I'm loving the way I'm feeling on the inside w/my healthy eating habits and drinking lots of water. I also take evening primrose oil pills, prenatal pills and pantothenic acid pills for my over all in and out health. i feel you on the knowing your skin is getting better. I think so...but I just want to give it time and see how this works..but I love the natural way I hope natural is what works for me as long as I stick to it. I've gotten real serious about my skin lately...I want to do what is best no matter how much time it takes:) I will definitely keep you updated and I'll be looking for your updates as well:)

Update!
Hi,

This is for the ladies currently using black soap and shea butter.

I wanted to know your results (Khivey) I hope you are still using the regimen faithfully. I have been getting some serious results with the shea butter. The dark spots on my cheeks are fading pretty quickly. It takes time, but I know that it is working. I am getting less and less blemishes and my break outs are occurring less frequently.

Thanks to all of your wonderful postings, I am finally on my way to clear skin. I am not completely there, however, believe that I am close.

Khivey, when you find the time, please let me know how your routine is working for you. Are you noticing a difference in your skin since you started the black soap and shea butter?

I will await your reply.

update
Hi Island Sun!
I've been waiting to talk with you :) . I must say THANK YOU for your advice and yes the black soap is working wonders for me as well as the shea butter:D .
I've noticed my breakouts are way less frequent and although it is taking time, my blemishes are fading. I've been drinking lots of water and taking multi-vitamins and eating healthy as well. I mean it is almost a month since I've started this new regimen and I am very happy with it I hope it lasts and lasts. I must say it feels good to be doing everything naturally:rollin
My regimen is as follows:
Morning: black soap, exfoliate, put a pure honey mask on my face(every other day) (this really tightens and shrinks pores),tone w/non-alcoholic witch hazel w/aloe vera in it, and moisturize w/shea butter (on the days I do the honey I don't use the shea butter b/c the honey really moisturizes my skin.
Night: black soap, tone and shea butter

3x a week I do a facial steam w/chamomile tea and boiling water.

Thanks to everyone on this site I was able to come up with this great regimen and I continue to stick to it for as long as it does me good (hopefully forever :rolleyes ) lol.
I'm hoping after 3 months (2 more to go) my spots will be practically gone:)
How long have you been on your regimen?

Great!!!!!
Hi Khivey,

I just have a few questions to ask you before I forget.

1) Do you use pure honey that you buy at the supermaket?

2) Where do you buy your witch hazel with aloe? Do you mix it yourself?

3) What do you use to exfoliate?

4) Did you have a few whiteheads before seeying significant results?

I am sooooo happy for you! I have been using the regimen for about a month in a half now. At first, I got scared because I started breaking out, I think it was because I had use Proactiv for so long that I forgot that my face needed to reajust to the new care. I had tried so many things. I am hopeful with the black soap and shea butter, by summer time we will both be happy girls. I am so excited for you.

I talk so much about my face that people around me are getting sick and tired of it. It's not that I am crazy! I just want to have clear skin again. I never had acne in my teens and now that I am in my mid 20's, booom! acne alert, it suck!

I hope you answer by tonight cuz I want to try the honey mask.

Hey Khivey,

I have started using Noni juice (100% from Tahiti) that I bought at the Vitamin shoppe in my area. It's so expensive, I have been using it for about 2 weeks now. I can't tell what exactly it is doing for my face. I have heard great things about it. Supposedly, it is great for the skin and many other things. I have notice an increase in my energy level. I have been running 1 miles every day for the past two weeks and incorporated weight training as well. I feel great! I have heard that it takes about 90 days to determine it's benefits, I will keep you guys posted.

Yes I use pure honey girl! It is the bomb:)
I exfoliate w/Dermalogica Daily Microexfoliant it is all natural w/natural lightening agents like Bearberry,Licorice. It does have a little Salicyc Acid in it..but it's all good. No harm.
I use this toner I got from one of those natural supplement stores (like a vitaminshoppe) It is non-alcoholic witch hazel w/aloe vera and I add lemon juice to the cotton ball in addition to the toner.

I heard really good things about Noni Juice, I need to see if the store by my house has the 100% from Tahiti b/c GNC had the 25% only and it contained other preservatives. I'm thinking that is a good product to use over the years you know. So definitely stick w/it. What is it like $25??

I sort of got a few lil' nothings when I started using it..definitely not a breakout though. Just a few that came to surface.
I'm hoping by the summer time girl for reallllzzz the spots I'm ready to be totally gone.
I feel you..I used to just get them on my forehead in Middle and High School but then once I got into my Senior year it spread to my cheeks, chin etc. I was like WHOA! That is when I started using the ProActiv...and all the other things I mentioned earlier.
I'm in my mid-twenties as well so I'm feeling you. I look at my face 24/7...but I've dedicated myself to just treating myself better and spending the time. Eating right, drinking lots of water, taking mult-vitamins. That will aide as well.

Try the honey and let me know what u think.
Also, pleeeeeeeaaaasssseeee keep me updated on the Noni Juice..I want to get some so I can start on it March 1st!;)

Noni juice
Hi Khivey,

Thanks for your prompt response. I did try the honey mask right after I read your posting. I like it! It gives my face a smooth feeling. I will continue to use it and see how well my skin reacts to it. It's so sweet though, makes me want to lick it off my face.

As for the Noni juice, I pay $28 dollars for it after rebate. The full price is $36 and because I am a member I get a discount. One thing I have noticed is that my toes nails are bring pink. Not that I had fungus or anything like that, but the color of the nails are nice.
I heard that it's great for getting rid of any infections, hopefully, it will have an effect on my overall health.

Definitely make sure that you buy the 100% Noni juice with zero preservatives or fruit juice added. Some companies contain only 10 to 15% noni fruit in their products, beware of the fake ones. Only purchase Noni juice in a glass bottle, no plastic containers. The plastic interfere with the consistency and potency of the juice.
If you are having trouble finding it, try online: check www.tahitinaturel.com for more information.

talk to you soon!
