How To Save A Life (Open)
Felix was walking down the hallway when he saw the doors leading into the auditorium, he stared at them for a minute contemplating on weither or not he should go in before deciding to check it out. Opening the doors he slowly peaks his head inside before entering the room. He looks around, as far as he can see there isn't anybody else in the room.

He lets go of the door and it slams shut behind him, causing an echo. He jumps at the sound and quickly turns around startled. Letting out a breath he continues on with exploring the room. As he walks around he decides to head Backstage where he noitices a piano there in the corner. Getting a little excited he walks over to it and sits down, it was much nicer and larger than the one he had in his room. He looks around. Nobody was there, nobody to disturb him, nobody to make him nervous. He began to play a soft and slow Jazzical sounding tune, he always enjoyed playing music like that, it helped him relax. After a while he started to feel more comfortable with the piano. So he started to play a song he knew and began to softly sing.

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

The Song

The song also included a guitar and a drum part, but sounded just as good when only played on the piano. As he sang he seemed to zone out completey, only focusing on what he was doing.

Re: How To Save A Life (open)
At some point, Felix was no longer alone in the auditorium. In the front row of the auditorium's seats, their walnut dim even with polish and poc-scarred by the nails and paperclips of countless bored teenagers, Genevieve is sitting. Not in the middle, but toward the left end, closest to the piano (which, to tell the truth, is probably why she's in the auditorium just now: the first of a wave of talented pianists who found the instrument and were pleased, although it is slightly off-key).

She doesn't do anything to call attention to herself. She just sits, legs crossed at the ankles. Her socks are black, and go to her knees. Her shoes are also black, plain. Her skirt is mid-length, and also black. As is her shirt, a button-down affair, the very top button left undone. The buttons are white, opalescent. The sleeves are cuffed to her elbows.

Maybe she blends in. The auditorium's light, or lack there of, slants across her golden eyes, and make them hazy.

Re: How To Save A Life (open)
when Felix finished playing the song the feeling that he was alone in the room was gone. He continued to play after the song was done keeping his eyes on the piano. He didn't know how he didn't hear the person entering the room when she did. He stoppes playing still looking at the piano, the thought that maybe he was just being paranoid and nobody was really even there went through his mind. deciding to check anyway he looks up as his eyes scan the seats. He sees a figure, she is sitting close, but a light was shining in his eyes and she came out as mostly just a black blur. He gets nervous, how long had she been there for. He blinks, his cat ears twich slightly as he does. He continues trying to make out the figure in the seat, but has trouble, "Um, hello", he says to her not sure what to expect for a response.

"Hi. You play very nicely."

He has cat ears. He - has cat ears. He has cat ears, and they move like a natural cat's ears: they're alive. They aren't a prop or a costume piece. In fact, his appearance is slightly . . .

But the girl seems calm. She may have done nothing to draw attention to herself, and it may be dark in the auditorium, but it's no great feat to see: gold-as-honey eyes, gold-as-honey hair, impossibly gold, bright and lovely, despite the dark mode of dress.

And, well, she doesn't have cat ears. Or a tail. He has a tail too! To be honest, she stares at it.

"Hi. You play very nicely." Was the respones he got from her.

"Oh, well, uh...Thank you", was all he was able to say. He put up his hand to block the light as his eyes began to adjust and was able to start to make out the girl in the seat. Her skin was pale, very pale for that matter, and her outfit was a little, well dark. But he didn't noitice that, what he noiticed was her hair, he found it to be quite beautiful, and her eyes, well he couldn't even start on her eyes. He tilts his head slightly and just continued to stare at her from behind the piano.

He begins to wonder why she was here and watching him when a though occurs, maybe she had come to the auditorium to play the piano, "Oh", he said sounding as though in a little bit of a panic," d-did you, want to play", he said smiling nervously, "because I was, pretty much finished".

Felix stares; V stares. Of course, V tries to be unobtrusive about it : but she's never seen a person with cat features before. That thick, foxish tail just twitched as though Felix were concentrating about something - so it must be real. "You don't have to stop yet. I did come to use the piano, but I can wait."

The girl's expression is serious, and her honey-light gaze darkens slightly when she tilts her head; removes her gaze, to look at her hands for a moment.

He's not a -
He's not.
Good.

Felix blinks once and continues to stare at her for a moment. He looks back down at the piano. He searches for second to find his place as he begins to very gently play.

"Oh, well are you sure?" He says still looking at the piano, " Because I didn't really come to practice or anything. I was just, more or less exploring the school and happened to come across it". He clears his throat as he finishes what he was saying. He stops playing and looks back up at her with small polite smile, "Besides, I have my own piano, back up in my room, so really, I can play anytime".

Felix stares at the piano, and his fingers draw melody from the keys; Genevieve, as cool as a spring rain, sits quietly by. But when he looks up, his smile compact and courteous, sharp teeth not visible, the fifteen year old looks slightly surprised. "You do, really? How did you get it to -- ah." Her eyelashes lower, almost as though in apology; but, no, V would never apologize, and it's difficult to imagine her doing so. "You must have one of the single rooms. What kind of piano is it?"

He didn't anawer right away, "It's a Steinway, Upright". He stopped for a second unable to remember what model, " And actually i'm in one of the double rooms, but I have no room mate, so i was able to... make room for it". He said looking back down at the piano and beginning to play again, starting to feel a little more comfortable, "I've had it for awhile," he said, "it works pretty good."

He stopped playing again realizing he had yet introduced himself. He looked back at her again, "Oh right", he started," Um, my name is Felix."

Re: How To Save A Life (Open)
Genevieve leans forward and rests her elbows on her knee, fingers (slender, a pianist's) twining together in a bridge for her chin. Her gaze focuses on the cat-boy, but she doesn't impolitely stare; occasionally, her gaze flicks to the shadows, or the shadow welling up underneath the piano. But, for the most part, her attention is on what she can see of Felix's hands; a natural place to look.

Then: "Ah. I never thought about that." Cool, is Genevieve, such a serene girl. "I didn't think they would allow it. Can I - " and this request is out of her mouth before she thinks it over, too in depth. But he's not a spirit, so it's okay. It's okay. " - try out your piano sometime?"

Then - oh. He introduced himself. "People call me V," she says, by way of similar introduction.

Felix blinked as she introduced herself. She called herself V. Well actually she said people called her V, so it must not be her, actual name. But still for some reason it felt a little Unorthodox to him. Not that is mattered though.

At her request his mood changes. His eyes widen slightly, his cat ears perk up slightly as they do. He was a little shocked at the question, but definetly more delighted about the idea, "Oh, definately", he says, a pleasant smile on his face, "anytime you like".

Re: How To Save A Life (Open)
V carries herself so quietly [a stoic, in the Greek sense?] that sometimes it's difficult to tell whether or not she's pleased or happy or displeased or angry. A response to Felix's smile, graceful Genevieve inclines her head in a nod. "Thank you for trusting me." And with that gesture, light ripples along the gold of her hair, sparks in the gold of her eyes; then shadows win out again, and there are darker golds for those.

But maybe it's an odd thing to say. V has a tendency to speak slightly formally, and if anyone ever heard her using slang and didn't die from shock, one might wonder where their reflexes are, or if they were already dead.

(Or Amber, but that's another story.)

"What floor and room do you live in?" she asks, politely, standing as she speaks. The play of shadow and light in the glooming dusk of the auditorium shift slightly, nothing supernatural, just the way it goes, and she walks over to the edge of the stage, closer. Of course,

"Thank you for trusting me."

At that, Felix's eyes shift to the side and a strange look appears on his face. "Should I not"? he thought. It's not like she hadn't given him reason not to trust her.

"What floor and room do you live in?"

His eyes shift back to her. His mouth opens to speak, but the words take a moment before they come out. "Oh, Floor three, room two", he said clearly. His mouth stays open for a few second longer before shutting, as though he was going to say something else. His eyes shift away again, he was about to ask her if maybe she would like to go now, but it wasn't Felix's character to be that forward.

Re: How To Save A Life (Open)
The distant (what, is she too proud to thaw a little around the edges?) girl does notice Felix's shift in expression -- it would be difficult not to -- at her reply. Genevieve never used to have much experience with people [and the truth is, even here, she would never be characterized as the life-of-the-party], but as a quiet person she has made it a habit to be observant. Ever since she was a child: precocious, curious and watchful. She knows people.

But she simply lowers her eyelashes. She doesn't want to give Felix the impression she could read minds !

At his answer, she looks up again (flash, brilliant gold; honey, melting over a fire) : "Oh! Good. Your room is right next to Amber's room."

"Oh! Good. Your room is right next to Amber's room."

At that, Felix just looked at her with a blank stare on his face, " Amber's room?", he said trying to remember who Amber was. He had only met her once before and it was only for a breif moment. He blinked a few times and looked up slightly in thought. Felix always had trouble putting faces on names, and vice versa. After a moment, something clicked and he looked back at her, "Oh right, the Uh. The winged girl", he said.

V nods, slightly, and on somebody else it would be an absent gesture, noncommital answer. But V seems to give attention to every gesture, an attentive girl, especially when confronted with something strange, and outside the realm of her experience.

So much is.

And she is also gravely courteous, an odd thing for somebody her age. The courtesy comes out, just now, in the form of this question: "Can I play your piano tonight? What time do you usually sleep?"

Ask more questions, she tells herself, and then you won't seem to know things you shouldn't.

"Can I play your piano tonight?"

At that question, Felix's cat ears perk up again, and his eyes widen slightly, "Tonight? well, sure, of course," he said nodding slightly.

"What time do you usually sleep?"

He opens his mouth to respond right away, but finds himslf stumped on the question. After a moment a stange look comes across his face as he looks away in confusion. Felix had been having a bit of trouble sleeping lately, and even thought he wouldn't want to go to sleep if he could, he was finding it hard to think of a answer, "Um, well..." He said looking back at her with a small nervous smile on his face, "Not for awhile". After a moment he stood up from the piano bench, "So, um, would you like to go now?"
