How to promote R/C in winnipeg, any idea's
So Alex and I have done a little brainstorming on this and have come up with a few ideas so far. Places where we would be able to connect with people who would naturally be interested (and be able to afford) in R/C enough that they may buy one and comeo ut to race.

So far this is what we have come up with:

Racing somewhere on Portage Ave. on a Sunday evening. Maybe Polo Park in the sears paking lot. Naturally with all the car people out along thee on Sundays we should be able to gather an interested crowd. With the money some people put into their 1:1 cars some should be willing to put down the money for an R/C.

Manitoba Motorfest. I don't know if they have any paved space anywhere around there but if we could get enough space to set up even a small track (even if it's only big enough to race some micros and show off a few Nitros) everyone there is obviously into racing. R/C could very well be the closest thing they could ever get to really racing. If not we could try to get permission to set up at point west auto park on the Sunday since the dealerships will be closed anyway. We could put a sign out by the road into the downs. Everyone would have to pass it.

That hobby show that is put on at the downs. I don't know much about this, I don't know if this is something that we would have to pay a bunch of money to get into. They may have some sort of deal for non-profit clubs. As long as we make it clear we are not trying to sell anything ourselves. We can be entertainment for the people there.

A-Channels Big Breakfast. I just thought of it this morning. I had the TV on and they had a parrot club on. If they are willing to put crap like that on TV why wouldn't they put some R/C stuff on. Someone must watch that show as it's still on the air and they do advertise it.

I think that's it for what we have come up with.

Parrot Club? LMFAO!
Now that's funny. Anyhow, I think those ideas are great. I had a few other ideas, but they've escaped me. I'll post them up once they return.

Yeah the only thing about the big Breakfast is I don't know if the show is all filmed live or if it is something that could also be filmed at another time. They could come out to film some Nitros and maybe we could get a few Micros into the place where they film the news part of the show.

Does anyone watch Big Breakfast, do you know if it is all live footage??

hehe, the big breakfast had a couple of guys on from a rc boat club in the city, so i don't see why they wouldn't be interested in rc vehicles.
maybe a couple of you could borrow a parrot from a friend, cut a hole in the top of an old body and tape the parrots feet to the chassis :) hehe just a lil thought

LOL yeah then the next day PETA would be on the show demonstrating how they vandalize places that treat animals poorly. We'll put your address in the contact info.

Regent
My friends and I are beginning to abandon the cruise nights on Portage, we're moving it to Regent, we can do some evening weekend racing there, they have a whole bunch of new and large lots, and it's well lit.

Re: Regent
It's not like we can't do it on different streets on different nights. It couldn't hurt to hit regent once or twice. Besides he Calvin is right there are some mighty nice lots around there.

LOL @ JRXT
Yeah, that parrot idea gave me a good chuckle.

Anyhow, I think it's a good idea to get as much exposure as possible. So hitting different streets is a good idea.

Hey JRXT, why don't you become a member of our club? Membership is absolutely free! Goto members.shaw.ca/arenaud/ -> 'Membership' -> 'Online Membership Application' and go nuts. Just a thought. This way, you'll be on the Wrc2 email list and you'll be kept in the loop on all events for the club.

Re: Regent
Oh don't you worry, when I say Me and my friends, there will be more traffic out there. We have got quite the following for trend setting, Park Lane, all that street racing there, it didn't just start up on it's own.... we started it, now it's a cop hot spot and we don't go there no more. Import car shows.... we pioneered the first one in Winnipeg. Which also reminds me, SHOWDOWN: Resurrection is happening this summer, check out www.zucru.com for some details, I'll see if you guys can set up booth there when it gets a little closer.

Sunthin for the offroaders :)
I know most of you are strictly onroad racers, but i was also thinkin that headin to a park like assinaboine n settin up a lil coarse there for offroad vehicles(unless there is ashphalt there) would be quite an attraction for the visitors of the park that have only seen tyco vehicles. Plus it would be fun to have a grass race with some cardboard/wood jumps and other small obsticles.
Good/bad idea?

:)

I think that is a great idea. I don't know how long we would last before we got kicked out (probably would depend where in the park we set up). My friend and I raced at Kildonan park once and didn't have any problems except there really wasn't any place to run our touring cars. I would still take mine for a run up and down the road when there was no cars around.

Re: Sunthin for the offroaders :)
in kildonan park, they have a huge parking lot near the rainbow stage area, that would be perect for racing, and we would never get kicked out of there, only park police or any police could kick us out, but if there is a famliy party, we might make to much noise :) :) :) and they might complain... but other than that, the police would probably just check it out, and think its cool and leave, unless they are old bastards!!! but i think it would be fun!!! It not like we are destorying property... and so what if we are making noise during the day... not like people don't crank their stereos through there!!! but i would be in for racing in there for sure.... Other parks are policed better, and therefore we might run into more problems else where... just my 2 cents

I am pretty sure that lot has those concrete dividers for the parking spots. I could be wrong but I remember there being a reason we did not drive in there. It may have been something else but if I am wrong that would be a great place.

The off-raods may ruin the grass though, I doubt anyone would realize that before we are done racing for the day. I thik we could draw a huge cowd if we set up a course with pylons there for the Off-roads on a Sunday.

Contact your local Canadian Tire. WE have raced at ours for 3 major races in the past 3 years. Its great for exposure.

Our EASTERN CANADIAN GAS NATIONALS are held at Canadian Tire 2 years running now.

Here is a shot to show store owners:

Yeah we're here it's just that the season hasn't really started as the weather has been terrible as of late. Snow last week, rain this week, it just won't work with us. You run out of things to talk about when nothing is procedding.

Once we actually get racing agin things will pick up. Hopefully the weather clears up. generally we have great summers so it can only go up from here.

Kool, you guys need to get an indoor club together for the winter months. We hit the 105 entries mark this winter. I love carpet racing! :)
