How was RC on Sunday?
Hope the first one was fun, what was the turn out like? Did you get any sanctioned racing in or was it as usual... 1, 2, 3, GO! Hey go back around that pylon you cheater!!... j/k I'll try to make it out for the next one. I still have to put a new body on the chassis, what do you think i should go with, Mercedez S-Class or Porsche GT3? Both very plain, single coloured bodies.
Sorry I couldn't make it out on Sunday for the first of the season. I was out racing the 1/1 at the autoX. Will you guys be getting together at all on any day during the week? I can't make it out to some Sunday's races cause the autoX is on Sundays too.
Re: How was RC on Sunday?
I had a really good time until the end of the day, I whacked a cement curb really hard. I was trying to tune my 2 speed and lost traction at almost full speed. I nailed the brakes but it was to late I hit the curb dead straight at probably 40 - 50 kph. It hit hard enough that it switched the on/off switch from on to off, tore the wires out of one servo, my receiver came unstuck from the upper deck. etc I'll put a full damage list at the end.
As for the racing my car seemed really well set-up. I was flying but I still had a few problems with the power my new engine puts down (hence the accident at the end) but regardless my car was handleing great. I doubt I will have to do much adjusting to it this year, just maintanance. I did spend a lot of time trying to get everything ballanced over the couse of the last winter. Unless track conditions change drastically I think I have a killer set-up.
Damage
1. Upper grahite deck (broken in two places) but I got it glued together, it should hold. The way it splintered it was actually easy to glue back together and still seems just as still. It actually feels stiffer but it may be more brittle now.
1 C shaped piece that holds the part that pivots that the wheel attaches to. I had a replacement so it's fixed. I had to grind down the hinge pin too bcause it wouldn't come out of this piece.
1 Shock shaft, I have lots of extras but I couldn't get the broken piece out of the ball cup so I had to replace that too.
1 lower front bulkhead and bent the screws that hold it. I have a few extra so this was simple.
1 servo connector. I soldered a new set of wires in and it’s as good as new. Actually it’s better because I oiled the servo motor while I had it apart now it's quieter than ever.
1 bent chassis. Not that bad, should be easy to bend back into shape. It won’t be 100% but I’m not a good enough racer to notice the tiny amount of tweak I’ll probably end up with. There is less than 1 mm difference from front to back.
1 Scratched heatsink on my brand new motor. It's cosmetic and not that bad.
Re: How was RC on Sunday?
Calvin F submerged his car in the ditch. He deceided to drive the car with hit receiver antenna bundled up into a little ball because he forgot his antenna tube. Needless to say he had about 40 feet of range then lost the car. It took a nice jump into the ditch and sunk in the shallow water. He had dirty ditch water pouring out of his new engine.
Apparently it's fine though so he'll still be racing.
Re: How was RC on Sunday?
My Super handled very poorly. It understeers waaaaaaaay to much. It actually drives much worse than it did last year. Part of my problem is that I broke the Golden Rule of RC: "Add hopups one at a time, testing your car out before putting more hopups." Yeah, I made a number of changes to my car in the offseason, and now I have to spend time getting them to work in concert. It kinda sucks, but I love it at the same time.
